This was my first time to Tennessee and my first time trying Mexican food there. I liked the atmosphere and the overall vibe of the restaurant. Our server was friendly and attentive. Overall, I did enjoy the flavors across the board. The thin and crispy chips along side of the tasty salsa were great. I tried the chile relleno and enchilada combo and ordered a side taco. The relleno and enchilada were tasty. I did ask for a cheese enchilada, which came out with beef in it, and I did ask for a shredded beef taco which came out with ground beef instead. Not perfect, and I didn't say anything. Shortly into our meal our waitress came over and handed me a shredded beef taco. I really appreciated the fact that she caught that mistake and corrected it perfectly. I also ordered a shot of tequila with an ice cube, and it came out in a full glass of ice, lol. Not perfect, but I still took it down. Overall, I enjoyed my trip here and would stop in again. Side note, if they would make their own hard shells like they do here in the southwest, the shredded beef taco would have been top notch! I'm just not used to the pre-made shells. read more

The food was an extreme disappointment. This is far from authentic Mexican food, and honestly some of the worst quality I've had in a long time. The ingredients tasted incredibly cheap, the food was dry, bland, and completely lacking flavor. For the prices they charge, the quality is unacceptable. The only good thing here was the margaritas -- they were excellent. Most of the staff was nice and helpful, but there was one female employee who came across as rude, never smiled, and did not make us feel welcome at all. I won't mention names, but the difference in attitude was very noticeable compared to the rest of the staff. Overall, the food quality was terrible and absolutely not worth the money. read more

My favorite in Oakland. Everything that I have had from the menu is good. My favorite I stick to a lot is the steak & shrimp fajitas. All you need to go with it (pico, sour cream, etc.) And you can order with or without beans and rice. But it's all good. Excellent service. They have the order ready when we arrive. One last thing is the tacos. I have just had the crunchy but it's very good. Lots of lettuce & white cheese. Not sure what the white cheese is called but the dip is very good as well. We haven't been to the other Mexican restaurant just down the street from El Nepal so I can't compare. But once we started going for Mexican it's our "go to" place. read more

Recently visited for a late lunch so it wasn't crowded or anything and they are following social distancing guidelines. Our server was nice and attentive. The complimentary chips and salsa were delicious. Salsa has a little kick but it's just more on the flavorful side. I ordered their new steak tacos and the flavor of the steak was amazing! Loved it enjoyed them so much. I had a friend order their fries and queso you can skip on that. Generic steak fries and you couldn't even see the queso could barely taste. Another reason for 4 stars their horchata is not very good. Doesn't have enough flavor and they just add way too much cinnamon to try to overcompensate for it. read more

My family loves this place!!! This is our number one spot to visit when we come into town to visit our family. My husband and I always split the full order of mixed fajitas. They always have a huge portion of steak, shrimp, and chicken along with the grilled onions and green bell peppers served on a steaming skillet. We are also given a plate of refried beans, Spanish rice, pico de gallo, lettuce, cheese, and sour cream. The cheese dip is my favorite! Their cheese dip and homemade salsa can easily make my meal alone. The restaurant is always busy with customers, but I am always amazed at how quickly they serve our food. We can have a group of ten and get served our food within minutes...quick service is huge with hungry kids. =) On top of quick service, the restaurant is always clean along with their bathrooms. read more

If you see my last review, it was also of a Mexican restaurant. I liked the dish so much, I ordered the exact same dish here. But why 3 stars here vs 4 stars there? 1) this place only offered rice OR beans but included a salad. I would have rather had both rice and beans than the salad 2) the main reason is the dish was too heavy on salt. Maybe the chef had a heavy hand today but my guac in the salad was way too salty in addition to my burrito being salty. The rice was fine. My husband and I enjoyed our meal at this restaurant. To start with, the chips we're great! They were warm, thin and crisp. The salsa was good. The guacamole was flavorful, however I prefer a chunky guacamole and theirs is blended. My test first meal at any Mexican restaurant is chicken enchiladas with verde sauce and beans and rice. They were very good here. I had two chicken and one spinach, and as good as the chicken ones were, I think I actually preferred the spinach! I also judge a Mexican restaurant by the refried beans, and these were very good! Next time I'll have a margarita; I just wasn't in the mood today. The service was excellent. Friday night, place was filled about 95% capacity, and they were still able to bring our meal out within about 10 minutes of ordering. Service was worth every bit of 5 stars. Food was great, but not perfect. The only bacon in the Pollo Jalisco was all fat. Guacamole was just puréed avocado. Looked like green baby food. Not that it tasted bad, but we usually expect more stuff mixed in, but maybe this is the correct way to make it and maybe what I'm accustomed to is wrong. That Mexican rap, Chicano rap, or whatever that crap coming out of the speakers just about ruined it for us. This is a small town. Farmers and rednecks. Every one of your customers loves Garth Brooks Lynyrd Skynyrd. We can tolerate whatever it is you call that traditional Mexican restaurant music, but this Mexican Rap is too far left field. Very annoying. The remodel of this place was incredible and really impressed me, but it's starting to fall apart already. They menus need to be replaced and seats recovered. read more

I love el nopal!!!! This is me and my sons regular place to come eat. Every waiter we have had has been very sweet and attentive. There have been a few times where they were a little on the slow side but coming from a fellow server I understand busy sometimes. We always get the P5 and some queso which is just amazing. This restaurant is a hidden gem. NOT ALL El Nopal's have food this good. I do enjoy good Mexican and Tex-Mex as well as places that are more like someone's Abuela's kitchen.(think Tacontento in Olive Branch). I'm not the one who likes the type of mexican food swimming in white cheese sauce and sour cream and more cheese. I like traditional dishes and they do Chilaquiles amazingly well......they offer two variations ...chicken with salsa verde and steak with salsa roja......but my favorite..... if you ask nicely... is chilaquiles con carnitas en salsa verde......is hands down my favorite and authentic....... the cheese dip...bean dip and mix queso fundido are very good. I also recommend getting a Michelada.....either with Modelo Especial or Negra Modelo....each waiter makes a solid variant on the classical theme. We eat here frequently.....enrolled in the customer program.....nice discounts....Bottom line is this location has flavorful food with layers of flavor and is always busy......so understand that quality take time.....but do try it.....i don't think you will be disappointed. read more

I was in the mood for a simple Taco Salad ($5.25) with chicken ~ a good value & just the right amount for Lunch. Oval-shaped shell was fresh & crispy. Chicken was shredded & juicy, as it should be. This place was ehhhh, okay. I ordered the massive fajita burrito and it was indeed, massive. It came smothered in some cheese sauce so you couldn't really pick it up and eat it like you're supposed to. You get a lot of food for your ten bucks but not a lot of was steak in the so called steak burrito. Also, it could have been warmer; my wife asked that they take hers back to the kitchen and microwave it. No one wants a cold burrito. So bottom line. I have been many times to eat here and it has always been good. However I call Saturday 1/17/17 at 6:45pm placed a to go order for a Shrimp Chimichanga. I was told it would be 10 to 15 minutes. I said ok because I live 2 blocks away. I turned on my timer on my phone for 5 minutes. And I left and arrived there in 3 minutes. It was sprinkling rain. I went in waited behind one person and paid with my debit card. I was back home in 4 minutes. The bag didn't feel warm from fresh cooked food. I opened the bag as soon as I walked in and the food was cold and there was NONE of the white cheese sauce on the chimichanga that is always on it before when I got it! There was a few drops on the plastic container but not on the food. I was very disappointed. I had paid $8.74 for my chimichanga and what makes it taste so good is missing and it's ice cold!!! You can imagine how upset I was and didn't want to get back out in the rain in the dark for this mess up! I tried warming it in the microwave but without the cheese say it wasn't tender and juicy!
