They recently redid the park area of this and it is awesome! The structures are new and have tunnels and ramps and lots of slides, and they have a great set of swings too. Plenty of parking and lots of room to play!

It's off the beaten track and well out of sight. I discovered this park along one of my many shortcuts through residential 'hoods, to avoid traffic. The first thing I saw upon exiting my car was a freight train, moving along the tracks that border the park, and it was even blowing its whistle. A big deal, 'cause I hardly never see freight trains in LA! Had I been closer I would have waved at the engineer. They always wave back. You can take the girl out of the Midwest, but you can never take the Midwest out of the girl......haha! So about this park: it's surrounded by apartment buildings, and I suspect the people who live there really appreciate the green space of 12 acres. The park space is a bit shabby....we'll call it "rustic", in the sense the paint is peeling off some of the picnic benches, and the volleyball net is nonexistent, and there is no fancy landscaping like in other parks I've seen. But......I found this rustic setting very charming & appealing. Along with that freight train, it reminded me of parks I frequented as a kid, in my old Chicago neighborhood. The park closest to my grandparent's house, when I was a little kid, bordered a train track, and I learned to like the haunting sound of the whistle. I think red cabooses are pretty cool, too. Haha! As I wandered El Nido Park, I was bathed in the scent from its eucalyptus trees. They were everywhere in and around the space. That scent, to me, is intoxicating, in large doses. El Nido has peaceful, hilly green spaces adorned with very old shade trees. There is nothing quite like an old tree.....they are like great-grandparents. They have seen so much, and they are so comforting. Just their presence is spiritual. I love to wander in parks with old trees, and forests are even better. Although El Nido might be a bit unkempt overall, it offers many recreation facilities: A large picnic area with grills just off the big parking lot. See the photos, because reservations might be required here. Many smaller picnic areas with cooking facilities were scattered throughout the park. There was a nicely-maintained softball field (no hardball per posted sign), and a soccer field. There's one basketball court. There's a horseshoe pit! Too cool. There's a very large kids playground in the center of the park space. There are a couple of buildings with bathrooms. There are extensive lovely green spaces where you can throw down a blanket, as some people were doing today, just relaxing. My spirits are lifted and I am re-energized & grounded......all from a walk in the park. I took 20 photos.

The RC car track there is really great. For all ages. The few people I have ran into since going there have been friendly.

Played softball one Sunday...field had potholes in it. Park is tucked inside a neighborhood, small and quiet.

We packed the wagon with snacks and water, put on the sunblock and off we went as the 5 year old told me exactly where to go. This park is huge. Has plenty of grass and hills to roll down, a softball field to run on. Plenty of ladybugs to catch, bees to watch out for and dandelions galore. There is also plenty of swings, random play things, serious climbing equipment and long slides that I thought were outlawed. The monkey bars are suitable for kids even though they look gianormous and that slide? It's like a mini splash Mountain drop. They blocked off the adjoining mini structure to the date devil one so the little ones dont get access to something to big for them. However your little ones may just want to climb up to the top anyway. Just let them do it. You know you climbed higher than them when you were young. Bathrooms were clean. The park is well kept. I saw city employees doing their thing when we were there.

[Review #831] 2024-032…read more I forgot that we visited Paradise Park years ago... I think it was a walking field trip from H's daycare/preschool: Leap & Bound Academy? My husband wanted to come back & visit a different park, & this one has some different & interesting play structures, including Saturn, train, & submarine. It does have your standard playground equipment; monkey bars, slide, swings, etc. that separates the big kids from the little ones for safety. The park has a large grassy field for frisbee, soccer, or just running around playing tag. And plenty of trees for shade! The park seems dog-friendly as we spotted several dog walkers during our playtime. There's a shaded picnic area for you to hold a small party, or hang out with friends; with picnic tables & BBQ grills spread out through the park. With the lack of food traffic, the BBQ grills & picnic tables could used some maintenance (rusted grills) &/or clean-up (cobwebs on grills, bird poop on tables). There's a tennis court somewhere; I haven't been but another reviewer posted a pic of the courts. And restrooms are available... again, don't know where but a couple reviewers mentioned they're near the tennis courts; however, there's no stall doors & they're dirty. Oh no! There's no parking lot that I'm aware of, but there's enough street parking around the park's perimeter. Not our ideal park due to its distance from home, but a fun layover when we wanted something different.

I have driven past this park location on several occasions and always wondered about it. I always see local people walking about no matter when I pass by. To my surprise, parking was easy and free. It was also dog friendly which I appreciated. What I had no idea about was how well designed this park was until I stepped foot in it. It has two playground areas, bathrooms, grassy fields for people to play some sports, and a well paved and well marked trail with mile marker to exercise on. It has a moderate up and down hill as well as shaded trees to keep cool and comfortable. WOWza, I thought! And it's so clean inside!! Essentially, you can walk about 2 miles if you do 4 laps. Or a whole mile if you walk 2 laps. I think I can actually do 6 laps only because it was such a nice urban escape and people were polite. The dogs were also having a good time too and at no point I had to worry about some rogue dog owner with their unleashed dogs or something. 10/10 would return again in the future. What a gem of a neighborhood park this was!

If you have a tiny one, I still would be cautious about the play structure in the smaller playground area. I went down the slide with my toddler, and I almost fell mostly because it was so fast. Playground sets are probably geared for older kiddos, rather than toddlers. The swings are super squeaky, and definitely could use some WD-40. All of the play structures could definitely use some tender love. I love how diverse people who are here and everyone seems pretty friendly.
