Golden hour from Vet. Park, Redondo Beach
Tania T.

This park is beautiful. It has a little separation for the little kids and bigger kids. The play area seems to be a hit with our kids. The equipment is a bit dated, but it does the job. There's a public restroom near by, a lot of benches for parents to sit and wait for the kids, and plenty of grass space for kids to run around. The view of the ocean adds such a nice ambiance. We were able to see the golden hour and the sun sets when we were there and it was such a nice view! I don't think my picture attached does it any justice. This park is also walking distance to the Redondo pier. Stroller friendly too!

Awesome little park to come hang out with your family, walk, or even just chill and read a book. Always pretty calm and has a great view of the beach and pier. Parking lot can get quite full sometime, but when you find a spot, parking is a very fair price.

I'm reviewing the park as a scuba diver. There's plenty of parking and they've finally removed most of the rusted old meters (only reason I've kept change in my truck for the past decade) and for the main lot, they now use the ParkMobile App which you can pay for up to 4-hours of parking; the app allows you to add time in the event you're not close-by when your time is expiring. There are still meters along the other road coming in from the main Kings Harbor entrance. The park itself is kept pretty clean, and understandably lock the restrooms at night, but as a diver who gets to the park before 6am, it'd be nice if they'd open the restrooms earlier than 7am; once they're unlocked, they're not really open because they're being cleaned. The Dive Site. They teach a LOT of basic dive classes at this site because it's generally an easy entry (watch that first step) and the site is pretty wide open sand that gradually descends really deep if you're experienced enough. You can see a variety of smaller sea life, but the real beauty is in the night dives, most especially the squid runs, as they can be spectacular if you can see it before the greedy fishermen come and kill them all in a single night!! PS: they will also illegally drop seal bombs and in the pitch dark at 80' it scares the out of you. I wish they'd make this stretch a protected area and create some artificial reefs that would support life as well make this a much better dive destination because otherwise it's mostly a boring dive site during the day. Then after the dive, the boardwalk and pier offer a plethora of food options!

This is where i had my first open water dive! It was such a great experience for me. We went as deep as 47 feet in our wetsuits. There seems to be a lot of parking even in the weekend, but i think it was just because it was raining and we got lucky. Dont forget to pay for your spot using the floor markers as reference. You can also download the "PayByPhone" and use the reference location code to pay for the app remotely. The steps are also not very tall, so it is much easier to climb up or down even when you have all your gear on you. About halfway up the stairs, there are showers that you can use to either rinse yourself or your gear off; also restrooms separated for male and female.

December 2019 the new renovated Veteran's Park children's playground play area
Rick S.

The new 2019 updated and renovated Playground is a 100%+ improvement starting from getting rid of the sand (after all, there is plenty of sand on the beach that's a 3 minute walk to the shore) and opting for the soft cushion flooring (thank goodness for not using wood chips, rubber tire shreds or anything else other parks use on the children's playgrounds) The play structures are really nice. Parking is easy if you're willing to walk, you can get FREE parking as short as a few blocks away.

Bring your quarters! Paying for parking at the beach is a novel concept for me. In Hawaii, most beach parking is free. Just remember to bring coins with you if you want to park here at Veteran's Park and have a picnic, go to Redondo Beach, and see the Pier. There were many families gathered here. The parking lot was also busy with scuba diving students in wet suits. They were leaving so parking was available. On Saturday, 7-21-18, Heal the Bay was conducting their monthly Beach Clean Up and volunteers were instructed to park here. Great choice! There are convenient restrooms at the park and a children's area that seemed clean and safe! I wouldn't mind returning to see The Redondo Beach Pier again and enjoying the views of the beach!

Just a short walk down to the beach

This little park packs a big punch with its playground, clean restrooms, ample picnic tables, large grassy areas and stairway access to the beach. The view is stellar as you watch the waves crash along the shore, also the people watching is top notch as they glide, stride and roll along the boardwalk. There is a great view of the pier and its within walking distance too! Parking is metered with a 4hr max. BRING QUARTERS! If you run out you can walk to the arcade on the pier to get more. A 4 star "We are fans of Veterans Park" review!

Wow! A beautiful and intriguing fountain in the middle of a small parking lot…read more The mermaids are in a peculiar stance and doing special things with their hands. Don't remember too much of those poses/statues in high school history classes.

Dec. 2011 review update:…read more I'm obsessed with this fountain. I might need an intervention. I'm in Malaga Cove Plaza every couple days: post office, market, coffee shop, cafes, gift shop, newspapers....recently I was there to get my hair done. I got to Malaga 40 min early so I could check out fountain photo ops. I was almost late for my appt.. Two hours later, hair cut & colored, I'm back at the fountain waiting for sunset. I was freezing. I was hungry. Should've gone potty before I left the salon but was in a hurry to get back to the fountain....(TMI, apologies). Sometimes in the plaza I avoid looking at the fountain. Resist. Don't take that first pic, you'll be hooked. A couple times they shut off the fountain's water & I felt a sense of panic. Withdrawal symptoms. I never check-in here. People will get wise. She's at the fountain again. Complete transparency: I haven't posted all the pics I've taken, not even close. It's embarrassing. This has been going on for 8 years. I'm exhausted. That Beach Boys song, "Help Me Rhonda", plays in my head but I altered the words: Help me Neptune Help, help me Neptune Help me get him out of my head. I've seen a lot of beautiful fountains in my day (e.g., Chicago's landmark Buckingham Fountain) but none so captivating as this one. It's got me. And there are no barriers here to keep people at a distance. It's so easy to use the sky as a photo backdrop, as water squirts & drips from every cherub, mermaid & dolphin orifice. Flowering trees surround the fountain in late winter/early spring. And Neptune, the star of the show, appears to reach for clouds & contrails. Sometimes it looks as if they emanate from his giant hand. He's powerful. I'm smitten. Another Yelper managed to capture Neptune holding the moon, well done. And then there's that pic where the stature is purple, captioned "photo class". Creative. And btw....about that fig leaf: Originally Neptune was not wearing one, which apparently caused a bit of an uproar as did the topless mermaids which remain. I'm guessing that today, almost a hundred years later, there'd be an even bigger uproar over a completely naked Neptune in the middle of a parking lot. So we've got half-nekkid Nept with the girls spraying water from their bosoms & a crazy lady taking pictures & everybody's just doin' their thing. A glimmer of hope: I'm not tempted to take photos when it's raining. Yet. But whoa, what interesting shots those could be. Uh oh

Painted by Mike Trujillo; the mural highlights Kobe's basketball journey via all his jerseys. The mural starts off on the left with a painting showasing when he played high-school basketball at Lower Merion High School and wore #33. The mural then shows how he first wore #8 for the Lakers for when was first drafted and on to when he won three championships in 2000, 2001, and 2002. The mural next highlights him wearing the #10 jersey for the USA men's basketball team at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. Lastly it shows Kobe sporting #24 starting in the 2006-07 season; all the way till he retired in 2016. I also loved how the mural had purple and gold hues for the background. This is an amazing mural to see and it can be easily missed as it is on the backside of the Burger City restaurant in Torrance. I definitely say though it is one not to pass up seeing as it's a great tribute to Kobe via showcasing all of Kobe's jerseys from the start to the finish of his career. This mural is something Lakers and basketball fans will truly appreciate. I know I certainly did!
