Visited this park on a Thursday lunch time with my two dogs in tow. Parking is not free and you have to download the app to pay-per-hour. I found plenty of free street parking across the street and all around the neighborhood instead. After nearly getting hit by a car a few times and getting approached by an intoxicated looking homeless or two, we finally made it to the park. And then that's when we discovered that the place is NOT DOG FRIENDLY. Omg! At first, I thought I saw the signs wrong and had to actually go up close to it. I also witnessed a bunch of other dog owners walking around the park with their dogs but many had them not leashed. That's when it dawned on me why the park has a no dog allowed policy. It's honestly very infuriating when people are so blatantly disrespectful about park policies and other people's safety. Not to mention the dog shit everywhere that really shouldn't have been there. Ugh. And that was enough of LA County shenanigans for me that day. read more

Cute park, great views, and a wonderful place to spend an afternoon with friends! The small parking lot offered very few options but the street parking nearby was viable. The park was very busy but not too crowded--it seems that many families or special occasions choose this park to celebrate together. There is a playground and views of the ocean, and the area was kept up well without trash or large dead spots in the grass. read more

This park is beautiful. It has a little separation for the little kids and bigger kids. The play area seems to be a hit with our kids. The equipment is a bit dated, but it does the job. There's a public restroom near by, a lot of benches for parents to sit and wait for the kids, and plenty of grass space for kids to run around. The view of the ocean adds such a nice ambiance. We were able to see the golden hour and the sun sets when we were there and it was such a nice view! I don't think my picture attached does it any justice. This park is also walking distance to the Redondo pier. Stroller friendly too! read more

I cannot believe I had never been to Veterans Park. My girlfriend and I stopped by here a few weeks ago, since we saw it on our way back from West L.A. Nice park with some Historic buildings and all. Nice grass areas for the children on playgrounds, and just all grassy and green on their other sides of the park. Nice family barbecues, and few things to do. Its a small kind of park, but still nice. read more

I'm reviewing the park as a scuba diver. There's plenty of parking and they've finally removed most of the rusted old meters (only reason I've kept change in my truck for the past decade) and for the main lot, they now use the ParkMobile App which you can pay for up to 4-hours of parking; the app allows you to add time in the event you're not close-by when your time is expiring. There are still meters along the other road coming in from the main Kings Harbor entrance. The park itself is kept pretty clean, and understandably lock the restrooms at night, but as a diver who gets to the park before 6am, it'd be nice if they'd open the restrooms earlier than 7am; once they're unlocked, they're not really open because they're being cleaned. The Dive Site. They teach a LOT of basic dive classes at this site because it's generally an easy entry (watch that first step) and the site is pretty wide open sand that gradually descends really deep if you're experienced enough. You can see a variety of smaller sea life, but the real beauty is in the night dives, most especially the squid runs, as they can be spectacular if you can see it before the greedy fishermen come and kill them all in a single night!! PS: they will also illegally drop seal bombs and in the pitch dark at 80' it scares the out of you. I wish they'd make this stretch a protected area and create some artificial reefs that would support life as well make this a much better dive destination because otherwise it's mostly a boring dive site during the day. Then after the dive, the boardwalk and pier offer a plethora of food options! read more

This is a lovely park above the beach which has tons of room for parties, yoga classes, and walks with your dog (there is a sign saying no dogs allowed but it seems everyone was walking their dog there. Just make sure to use a leash and clean up after your dogs). The parking lot is small and fills up quickly so come early if you plan to park there, but the parking is cheap! read more

This is where i had my first open water dive! It was such a great experience for me. We went as deep as 47 feet in our wetsuits. There seems to be a lot of parking even in the weekend, but i think it was just because it was raining and we got lucky. Dont forget to pay for your spot using the floor markers as reference. You can also download the "PayByPhone" and use the reference location code to pay for the app remotely. The steps are also not very tall, so it is much easier to climb up or down even when you have all your gear on you. About halfway up the stairs, there are showers that you can use to either rinse yourself or your gear off; also restrooms separated for male and female. read more

The good: I came here for the first time yesterday and was impressed by this pretty park. I loved all of the tall palm trees. This is a beautiful park with views of the gorgeous beach. The grass here is well maintained, there's plenty of parking and there's a fun playground for the kids. There's also a public restroom. They have a lot of cement picnic benches as well and grassy areas for picnics. The bad: There's only metered parking and it doesn't take credit card. So, come prepared with your coins! The interesting: The public library is located here and it's architecturally beautiful and historical. This is the location of the former Hotel Redondo. The hotel looked beautiful so it's a shame that it had to be demolished back in the early 1900s. read more

The new 2019 updated and renovated Playground is a 100%+ improvement starting from getting rid of the sand (after all, there is plenty of sand on the beach that's a 3 minute walk to the shore) and opting for the soft cushion flooring (thank goodness for not using wood chips, rubber tire shreds or anything else other parks use on the children's playgrounds) The play structures are really nice. Parking is easy if you're willing to walk, you can get FREE parking as short as a few blocks away. read more

Happened to park here for 30 minutes on this past Sunday for the festival of the kite, then we hung out at the park so the kid could play in the playground. Fun rock climbing areas and lots of kids too. Good place to walk down to the beach from the parking lot, especially if you cannot find free parking by the sidewalk. read more

Nice during farmers market. Use to be a nice place but homeless have taken it over and it can be a bit doggy at times. There is trash and people yelling at no one. Men urinating outside. I wouldn't go alone or in the evening anymore. read more

Bring your quarters! Paying for parking at the beach is a novel concept for me. In Hawaii, most beach parking is free. Just remember to bring coins with you if you want to park here at Veteran's Park and have a picnic, go to Redondo Beach, and see the Pier. There were many families gathered here. The parking lot was also busy with scuba diving students in wet suits. They were leaving so parking was available. On Saturday, 7-21-18, Heal the Bay was conducting their monthly Beach Clean Up and volunteers were instructed to park here. Great choice! There are convenient restrooms at the park and a children's area that seemed clean and safe! I wouldn't mind returning to see The Redondo Beach Pier again and enjoying the views of the beach! read more

A great place near the beach for the kids to play. I take my kids here regularly. Even toddlers can have fun. My 15-month-old enjoys climbing through the obstacle courses and outdoor play area. The only thing there isn't enough shade. So, on hot days it can be very hot. Use sunscreen, bring water, and use shades and a sun hat. read more

Very nice park just near the beach. They have a nice kids playground and recently added some new playground equipment. They have a few picnic benches but it would be nicer if they had more. Main issue near here is parking since they have a pay lot next to the park but it's often very full even on weekdays, there's some street parking but it's hard to find a space that's close by. This little park packs a big punch with its playground, clean restrooms,ample picnic tables, large grassy areas and stairway access to the beach. The view is stellar as you watch the waves crash along the shore, also the people watching is top notch as they glide, stride and roll along the boardwalk. Nice open space in Redondo close to the Harbor area. Depends on what time you're here but it can be empty...or slammed with people. I've seen a few cookout and birthdays here on my runs or walks. Recently i took my dog on an early morning as she didn't like the dog parks as much. She sort of sniffed around. Once in a while some of the local transient folks hang out here so be aware. Nothing wrong with that as i've never seen any criminal activity. But you never know. I'm not sure if dogs are frowned upon as i've noticed some folks having dogs on the lawn or walkway areas. It's a nice place. Walking distance from home to waterfront etc. There's also concerts on some holiday times and it's been a crowded but good spot to see fireworks. Parking can be spotty. But there's a city lot on both the Marina side and just past the park up Catalina Ave. Enjoy. read more

I admire trees because they seem resigned to the way they have to live. And they adapt better than do people. They have to; just being a tree means you have been there, wherever there is and however inhospitable, for some time. Often years. The trees at Veteran's Park in Redondo Beach are a living testament to these notions. Vigilant to growth and endurance, but shaped by the wind and elements just as much as the Palos Verdes cliffs. These trees are reason enough to visit Veteran's Park. I had the good fortune of being there today, walking around in no hurry at all, and thinking how each one skillfully balances tenacity with a yielding surrender to the harsh wind coming off the Pacific Ocean. Disfigured?! Heavens no. Theirs is a natural beauty worthy of a John Muir photograph. read more

I usually don't write about parks, but this one is special to me. Whenever I want to get away from LA, I like coming here. Parking: Metered parking, and there's underground parking at the pier as well. During the holidays, underground parking is free, sweet! Recently, I came here to do some solo, grieving time, when I had learned about my Dad passing away. I was able to shed tears without tons of people seeing, and it's peaceful here. No noisy, obnoxious people here. Just being able to sit there quietly, peacefully, reflecting about the times I had with him (both good, bad and ugly), it made my healing process easier to deal with. Knowing that he's no longer in pain, and just looking out to the ocean and feeling its cool breeze, it gave me a calmer peace of mind. For that, I'll always adore this place. Besides my grieving reflecting time, what I also like about this place: Tons of benches to sit on, and I like how different each tree is, especially, their disfigured positions. Gives the park a quirky feel to it. Best of all, I like how it's always cool and breezy here. It's also great for just taking in the view (both the ocean and people watching), hanging out either with friends, family or by yourself. There's even a couple of Pokemon Go gyms and poke stops too! (Yes, I still play it, lol!). There's even a playground area for kiddies further back, and the restrooms are surprisingly clean inside. Overall, this Veterans Park is a great place to check out. It may not be much, but when you need that quiet moment to reflect, it's absolutely wonderful! The only thing you really need to watch out for is the birdie doodie, lol! read more

The pier... the view of the horizon... the scenery... I'm at a loss for words. My wife and I came here for a childhood friend's wedding. It was small but eloquent. There were signs of others' activity and they were all very pleasant minded. We moved from the park to the historic library and inside was stunning. People ought to always get married here! Just kidding! The fact that the historic library had a breathtaking view of the ocean, boats and pier was not just a simple touch of flair. The way the sun shone through the windows was something my eyes will never forget. When my wife and I sat down, we noticed the stations of the continental breakfast and on the opposite side, a coffee table. Both sides had its equal share of goodness. The pastries were fresh. The coffee was fresh. I had a second round of that coffee and I usually do not indulge. The bar service was quite on spot. My wife ordered a Mimosa and I ordered a Bloody Mary. In fact, I quickly ordered three because it had a great balance of flavors. My only fret was that it was not a full bar (no beer or other hard liquor except for Vodka). But then again, it was early Sunday morning so I probably shouldn't be complaining. When it was time for food, it was buffet style. I enjoyed the salad and bacon. However, the sausage was sub par. The salmon was okay as well. The crepes were great. It was hard to understand the third ingredient. I thought he said shrimp but it was really crab. To my dismay, when I got up to get my second, I had to decline because of my allergies. It wasn't spectacular food but it was good. I was glad to have been able to grab another plate. Other than that, very fancy venue. It delivered quite a spectacle to my wife and I. I will definitely be wanting to come back should someone else choose this venue as one of their own. read more

I remember coming here when I was little to this Park with family we had picnics here i remember one year was on Memorial Day I think and it was super packed we had a little space to play and eat. Now forwarding to the present the Park still looks like it did back then with the exception of the benches close to the end near the beach. They all have plaques on them in remembrance of a person. One of my coworkers has a bench here. It is in a great spot to enjoy the ocean view. This is a nice place to walk and sit and enjoy the ocean breeze and views. Parking is all meters and they do check as I saw the parking enforcement driving by. I'll be back again when I need to sit and relax and clear the mind perfect place to do that. read more

Cheri & I pretty much captured the place in photos. This smallish oceanfront park is the former site of the late 1800's masterpiece, the 225-room Hotel Redondo. Too bad that's gone. It was connected to DT LA by railroad. So now we have a view park that is practically spitting distance from Redondo Pier, not too shabby. On summer weekends, especially holidays, there is hardly a place to throw down a blanket here....it's packed with picnicking families. No dogs allowed in the park, btw. There is expensive metered parking in lots surrounding the area, or park in the Pier lot for a reasonable daily rate......or park for free in the residential neighborhood the other side of Catalina and walk a couple blocks. read more

Located South of Redondo Beach Pier Veterans Park is used throughout the year for small community events. It has a community center in the former main library where people have weddings and banquets. There is also a senior center on one end and a playground on the other. It has great views of the ocean and a large lawn too. They also have a band stand for small concerts. read more

Beautiful spot.We took our dog here one afternoon to play and it was a little respite within Redondo. The grass was beautiful, great view of the ocean and the best part was the easy metered parking! It's crazy to me when I see a park this empty when it's so nice. We came and stayed until sunset and it did get a little busier. There is a small playground for kids, large grassy area for pups and nice benches for the view. We had a great time here, really enjoyed in and I hope to come back here anytime I need a little time out. read more

This is a cool spot to chill and people watch. It's right next to the beach. You'll see a lot of scuba divers in this area for their PADI Certification classes. Beware of parking enforcement because they check FREQUENTLY. They'll even wait around until they see the meters expire. There's also a tow truck that's ALWAYS nearby.
