A beautiful spot with a parking lot. Parking is free and it wasn't too busy. Gazebo is pretty nice but some pictures come out dark because of the shadow. Overall a nice quick spot to get some pictures in. I think lots of engagement shoots occur here.

Located off Malaga Cove in Palos Verdes near by the Malaga Cove School. Back in my High School days we used to stop by here before our many adventures and seeking around PV. This little gazebo type overlooks the ocean and the sights of Torrance/Redondo Beaches and beyond. It was a great sight on a clear night to see as well. There is a parking lot now I believe back in the day there was partial parking and a dirt road if I remember correctly it was so long ago since I last came here. Overall I loved exploring PV and stopping here just to hear the ocean and take in the sights. A great little spot.

It is located at Paseo del Mar and Via Arroyo next to the Palos Verdes Beach and Athletic Club. The gazebo is a scenic lookout that overlooks the beach and has incredible ocean views of the coastline that stretch from Palos Verdes to Santa Monica, and it is a great spot to watch sunset, also to the right of the gazebo is a walking path that you can take down to the beach.

There is no real address for this point. All I know is that it is in Malaga Cove in Palos Verdes Estates, CA. It is located at Paseo del Mar and Via Arroyo. It is across the parking lot from Malaga Cove School. This gazebo is free and it looks like public access is available 24/7. This gazebo was named after former councilman and first mayor of Palos Verdes Estates, Hans Frederick Bernard Roessler, known as Fred. He served for 25 years as mayor of PVE. Palos Verdes Beach and Athletic Club was formerly called Roessler Memorial Pool. The gazebo is situated at the edge of a hill where you can view the beach below. It has amazing ocean views of the coastline that stretch from Palos Verdes to Santa Monica. If you want to walk down to the beach, there is a paved path to the right of this gazebo. The Palos Verdes Beach and Athletic Club can be viewed from the top. I was a bit surprised to see a pool right next to the beach, but it made for a nice picture, too! As you can imagine, with such a spectacular overlook, this place makes for a great photo shoot. Brides & grooms come here for photos. There is a sign stating that "No private events are allowed", so keep that in mind. This would be a great place to watch the sunset! When I came, it was mid morning and only a few people came to take a look at the view. I think this is a place mostly locals know about and I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon it! (It wasn't on Yelp, so I put it on the Yelp map!) I missed a turn and kept driving and ended up finding this gem. I love happy mistakes!

Roessler Point merits many stars for being a true-north-facing place with an ocean view in California. Because of the shape of California's coastline, most of its beaches and cliffs face west, southwest, or south. Many of the north-facing points are famous for their beauty (Pacific Grove, the 17-Mile Drive, San Francisco's China Beach), and most of them are in Northern California. In fact, other than Roessler Point and La Jolla Cove, I can't think of a single other north-facing place in Southern California with a view of the open ocean. Erosion and human encroachment make this place seem precarious. You would expect a surfeit of ostentatious buildings in and around the point, so the lack of new development seems to signal the fact that it could fall into the Santa Monica Bay at any moment. The more time you spend here, though, the more comforting that impending doom seems. The point itself is like a no man's land between the raw, unforgiving power of nature and the rapacious optimism of the richies who live in Palos Verdes Estates. For once, greed hasn't won the day--or at least it hasn't won yet. I love the shabby playing fields with their spectacular views, and the fact that the chain-link fence is falling apart. I think I would love the gazebo too, but a couple insisted on spending too much time there while (because?) they knew that social distancing would prevent anyone from interrupting their private conversation, so I didn't get to experience it firsthand. I don't understand why it doesn't have a real roof, but maybe vines once used it as a trellis? You never feel like you're not blocking the rich people's view. I don't mind blocking anyone's view when I'm just existing in a beautiful place, but the lack of attention this place receives is both wonderful and worrying. It feels like it could get plowed under at any moment, not by The Big One or some terrifying rock slide but by a real-estate developer with deep pockets and an even deeper disregard for ordinary people and their rightful claim to the enjoyment of public land. Because the point belongs to everyone, it doesn't belong to anyone. That's comforting, but it also feels temporary.

This place is beautiful!!! I went out to the area to take a peaceful walk while dealing with some stressful things, and being up there was amazing and calming! There are some nice places to walk around at near the gazebo, including the church, school, and neighborhood. There are amazing views of the ocean and it's usually very sunny and bright. The actual gazebo is pretty small, but if you're just wanting to relax a bit, I recommend it!

A cute little gazebo with a great look out point. The gazebo offers no protection if it is raining tho. Aside from standing here and appreciating the view, I guess you could have photos taken or ask someone to marry you. ?? Lol

I can't add much to Alana's great review (thank you for the history, I never knew). Yes, locals come to this place to take in the views....and also to use the path down to RAT (Redondo at Torrance) beach. It's a peaceful little cove, just lovely. People don't realize that a sliver of Torrance extends all the way to the ocean. So yes, Torrance has a beach. Plenty of free parking here because nobody goes to lower Malaga except residents. shhhh.....

This view is incredible! I just had my wedding ceremony here this past weekend. It was storming all day BUT the sky opened up just in time for the nuptials. The gazebo is public so you cannot have private events here, but we weren't too concerned since it was going to take less than an hour and the weather wasn't fantastic. We managed to get through the ceremony smoothly, however taking photos after was a bit harder. The residents started to come out since the rain let up (which was fine) but I was completely shocked at how rude the locals were. If I walked passed someone in a wedding dress with bouquet I would crack a smile at the very least...I got crude glares and scoffs. One couple even walked right up on us in the middle of a photo and stood directly behind us even though there was ample space to see the view and not interrupt the picture. The wife even went as far to talk very nastily to us. She's lucky I didn't want to ruin my wedding dress lol. Anyway, it's a gorgeous spot just keep in mind that you are not alone.

Amazing views here and giant parking lot for free. Great pics up for grabs at the gazebo. Walk down the ramp to get to the ocean. Epic...

Dec. 2011 review update:…read more I'm obsessed with this fountain. I might need an intervention. I'm in Malaga Cove Plaza every couple days: post office, market, coffee shop, cafes, gift shop, newspapers....recently I was there to get my hair done. I got to Malaga 40 min early so I could check out fountain photo ops. I was almost late for my appt.. Two hours later, hair cut & colored, I'm back at the fountain waiting for sunset. I was freezing. I was hungry. Should've gone potty before I left the salon but was in a hurry to get back to the fountain....(TMI, apologies). Sometimes in the plaza I avoid looking at the fountain. Resist. Don't take that first pic, you'll be hooked. A couple times they shut off the fountain's water & I felt a sense of panic. Withdrawal symptoms. I never check-in here. People will get wise. She's at the fountain again. Complete transparency: I haven't posted all the pics I've taken, not even close. It's embarrassing. This has been going on for 8 years. I'm exhausted. That Beach Boys song, "Help Me Rhonda", plays in my head but I altered the words: Help me Neptune Help, help me Neptune Help me get him out of my head. I've seen a lot of beautiful fountains in my day (e.g., Chicago's landmark Buckingham Fountain) but none so captivating as this one. It's got me. And there are no barriers here to keep people at a distance. It's so easy to use the sky as a photo backdrop, as water squirts & drips from every cherub, mermaid & dolphin orifice. Flowering trees surround the fountain in late winter/early spring. And Neptune, the star of the show, appears to reach for clouds & contrails. Sometimes it looks as if they emanate from his giant hand. He's powerful. I'm smitten. Another Yelper managed to capture Neptune holding the moon, well done. And then there's that pic where the stature is purple, captioned "photo class". Creative. And btw....about that fig leaf: Originally Neptune was not wearing one, which apparently caused a bit of an uproar as did the topless mermaids which remain. I'm guessing that today, almost a hundred years later, there'd be an even bigger uproar over a completely naked Neptune in the middle of a parking lot. So we've got half-nekkid Nept with the girls spraying water from their bosoms & a crazy lady taking pictures & everybody's just doin' their thing. A glimmer of hope: I'm not tempted to take photos when it's raining. Yet. But whoa, what interesting shots those could be. Uh oh

The weather was chilly and many of the butterflies were resting, so it was hard to see them. It doesn't matter, we were very happy to be in this special enclosed space. The staff here answered our questions and we told them they were fortunate to volunteer there. Parking: plenty of free parking on site. Do arrive early. The temperature was nice in the morning to walk around and parking was easy. As we were leaving, it was getting more crowded. We saw a place that sold food, but we passed on this and drove to a restaurant to have lunch.
