My fiance & I fell in love with the location, but management could use some work. We went a whole year ahead of time to book this venue for our August 2012 wedding. The young man behind the counter pulled out a book and said they were wide open for August 2012. I was stoked and immediately whipped out the check book to give our deposit. He wrote up a receipt and gave us some informational packets, and we were on our way to start planning our big day.
In February 2012, my fiance decided to check out the location again and he also wanted to speak to management to clarify where we were allowed to have alcoholic beverages. To his surprise, when he arrived, they didn't have a record of our names and told him that date was booked wayyy before we had booked it. WHAT??!! That is insane, and completely unprofessional! They fed him some story about how the person that took our check (and cashed it, mind you), somehow lost all our contact info and they have been waiting and hoping we'd contact them. That's 100% BS because they cashed our check, which had our NAMES and ADDRESS on it! If they really wanted to contact us, they could have figured it out...anyways, bottom line is they double booked our date and we were left scrambling for a new venue.
At least they gave us our security deposit back (which took 4 weeks to get back in the mail).
If you plan on using this venue for your reception or ceremony, I would double, triple, and quadruple check that you (and only you) are scheduled to be there on the date you choose. But quite honestly, I would suggest NOT using this place. I'm glad I found out early enough and actually found a wayy way better venue right across the marina.
Please, do yourself a favor and check out The Plaza at Cabrillo Marina. Speak to Henry, and I promise you, you'll fall in love with the venue and the TRUE freedom to do what you want. Oh yeah, and the comfort of knowing that the venue will be true to their word. This place I found allows all outside vendors, including our own alcohol. Cabrillo bathhouse required us to use a caterer for alcohol, which was going to be very expensive. And parking at the bathhouse is very expensive, whereas The Plaza has FREE parking for all your guests! Plus, the Doubletree is across the parking lot for out of town guests. Almost forgot to mention, it's cheaper to rent out this place, too!
I was very, very angry over management double booking, but after finding a steal of a deal at The Plaza, I'm actually grateful it worked out that way. I hope the person who screwed up realizes that wedding days are very important to people and mistakes like these just cannot happen. It can be very devastating for some people, just glad I wasn't one of them! read more
