This was the sort of adventure that needed a sidekick, so of course, I brought my PIC, my mom. I bought tickets in advance from the website ($12/adult & $6 for seniors over 62) and we made an 11:30pm reservation for 7/30/2026. We arrived at the park a bit early, got one of the last upper parking lot parking spaces, and strolled around the grounds for a bit. Then about 15 minutes before our appointed time, we asked if we could enter prior to our time slot. We were granted early admission, put on our shoe covers, and entered through the 250# concrete doors into the unique & grand home of Oil Heiress and Patron of the Arts, Aline Barnsdell and her daughter, Betty. I am so glad that this house was saved and restored, and I look forward to coming back in a year or two to see what it looks like when the construction is (hopefully) finished. Hollyhock House, completed in 1921, is LA's only UNESCO World Heritage Site and what a beauty it is... from the gorgeous living room with a phenomenal view to the well-appointed dining room and the modern kitchen, every aspect of this house was so thoughtfully rendered. The terrace is stunning and the inner courtyard is so peaceful. My favorite room of all was the incredibly serene and cozy library where I could picture myself happily curled up in a comfy chair with a great book and my faithful pup by my side. I loved the combination of design styles in this house including Mayan, Aztec, Asian, Egyptian and "California Romanza" as described by FLW himself. We utilized the information booklet provided to enhance our self-guided tour, and we had a marvelous time. This home is not magnificent by some standards, but imho, it was everything someone could need, and so much more. The clever repetition of design elements such as the stylized Hollyhock and myriad built-ins helped streamline the house and ensure the continuous flow and cohesiveness of the home from room to room. The view from the top of Olive Hill is STUNNING, and I can only imagine how clear and pristine that view must have been 100+ years ago. The docents and volunteers here were all so nice and well-informed. We spoke to a lovely volunteer named Denise who shared some stories about the house, and clearly seemed to enjoy what she was doing. We loved the house so much that we had to take our time to really experience it. We stayed inside the house for about 45 minutes which was sufficient. I was sad to have to leave, but alas as we know, all good things must come to an end, but other good things are sure to follow! Mahalo! Additional notes: The house is at the top of the hill in Barnsdell Park. The signage for the park is subtle. There is a small visitors center next to the house, and the grounds at the top of the hill are available for anyone to visit, but you need a ticket to go inside the HH. The good news is that if you don't have ready access to the email with your ticket, the volunteer at the door can find your reservation on the iPad, so no worries there. There is no bathroom inside HH, but there is a port-a-potty in the park not too far away.

This was my first visit to the Hollyhock House. I have visited many of Frank Lloyd Wright's house museums and seen many of his structures over the years. But this place was a new one for me to see in person. Hollyhock House is located in Barnsdall Art Park and was completed in 1921. Hollyhock is a type of flower that inspired the motifs in this house's design. Aline Barnsdall hired Frank Lloyd Wright to design this house for her. Today it is owned by the Los Angeles Government. Hollyhock House is located on top of a hill and has a nice view of the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Observatory. I enjoyed my tour through the Hollyhock House. It was affordable and took me about an hour to go through. They require you to wear protective shoe coverings while inside and ask that you don't use flash photography. The kitchen and living room were my favorite rooms. There is also a cool study with lots of books that I also enjoyed. There are a few rooms in this house that are off limits. The back outside patio area has a nice view of Los Angeles. The tour is self-guided, but there is staff on hand that will answer questions if you have some. Barnsdall Art Park is a nice park to relax and have a picnic. It has great views of the surrounding Los Angeles area if you want to hang around this area.

Their VIP parking was down a one-way dirt road at the entrance, but we opted for general parking across the street at the Heritage Square metro station. Part of the event was touring the Victorian houses, which was pretty interesting to see. Each house had guides to give insight into how people lived in the olden times. We also got to check out the giftshop for Heritage Square Museum which had souvenirs and mementos if you wanted to support them. Street Food Cinema hosted a special outdoor screening of Sinners. There were two screening areas so don't worry if you can't find a spot at the first one - juts walk aways further and you'll find more seats for the other screen (the movie plays simultaneously on both). Fyi - you don't need to bring your own chairs as they provide lawn chairs for screenings. There's several specialty things to see so it's worth coming early so you can take it all in. There was a Spookeasy with a musician playing songs from the movie, an Oddities Bazaar that offered tarot readings and aura photography, vendors selling goodies/clothes/etc, and of course plenty of food! We had delicious pizza from Angeleno's Wood Fired Pizza, had some cookies from Brady's Bakery, and topped it off with hella strong drinks! It was a 21+ event and they sure had heavy pours! Of course if you don't drink they also offered water, soda, and mocktails. If you get the opportunity to attend an event at Heritage Square Museum, don't miss out on it! The grounds are well-maintained, the employees are all informative and friendly, and we had an absolute blast! Two more things to know before you go - (1) it gets seriously cold at night, so bring a blanket and bundle up. Pro tip: it also comes in handy to secure your seat while you walk around. (2) Outside is mostly dirt and it gets windy, so dress accordingly and be sure to blow your nose thoroughly afterwards because you're going to be breathing it in!

It's actually pretty interesting to walk through and see a piece of Los Angeles history preserved like that. I'd say it's especially worth visiting if the event or entry is free, since it's a nice way to experience something different without committing a full day to it. The staff were extremely friendly and very enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge, which honestly made the experience better. You can tell they care about the history and enjoy talking about it. Some of the homes did have a noticeable old house smell, which isn't shocking given their age, but it's something you'll probably notice as you walk through. Overall, it was a cool and unexpected experience and a nice reminder that LA has pockets of history hiding in plain sight.

It is a beautiful example of the genre and is meticulously maintained by its docents. It also represents the very DNA of Pasadena residential architecture and it's influential style echoes throughout the city. A visit here is fun and you will learn about the history of Pasadena too. Great communication leading up to the tour. I was sent a bar code and instructions in multiple emails as the date came closer to the tour.. Ok, today was the day, IT'S ALL HAPPENING ! I landed in Burbank and headed straight to the house. Ok, got there early cause I was super excited. I waited in the car till 3pm which was my time in which then I knocked on the front door and was greeted.... No it wasn't Carol or Alice but a nice lady with a few more instructions. Yelpers I just teleported into time and my childhood fantasy has arrived.... My eyes gazed over the entry way and living room for which I was just flabbergasted by what I saw, yes I'm actually standing in Mike & Carols living room. I'd always envisioned myself in my dreams but never in my wildest thoughts that I'd actually be standing inside the Brady Bunch House.... Upon walking in you'll be staring at the staircase you'll see the vase Peter broke when throwing the basketball inside the house " Mom Always Said Don't Play in The House "! Since it's a self guided tour I drifted into the kitchen first and man the 70's kitchen with avocado & orange appliances blinded me and made me smile.. I picture Alice in the kitchen in her blue maid outfit. I walked through into the den and saw the tv and TIGER the dog & his bowl. Yes, I know it's not the real tiger but hey he had a good life... Greg's football playbook was on the table for viewing or stealing plays... Sliding glass doors opened and I was in the backyard & garage area.. Mikes red car was in the garage next to a fleet of bicycles.. Even the Brady Dunk tank was for viewing but no dunking... Back into the house I now ventured upstairs to the Brady girls room and sitting on the bed is Cindy's beloved doll Kitty Karry All... AJan's black wig even was in the bedroom, can you believe it I couldn't. Various awards in the room and now I'm in connecting bathroom the kids shared... Bathroom was great and even had shampoo and toothpaste from 70's... Brady boys bedroom was next and the famous blue bunkbeds were right there.. Peter & Bobby's bunkbeds were awesome. No I didn't take a nap in case your wondering... Backdown the stairway to Mike's working home office and then to Alice's bedroom. Nice touch with a framed photo of Sam The Butcher on Alice's nightstand... Now I crossed the house into the hippie version of Greg's / Johnny Bravo's bedroom. Amongst Greg's stuff was a fake mascot of COOLIDGE HIGH SCHOOL goat LOL.... However the coolest item was the famous cursed taboo tiki idol necklace. This leading to bad luck like Greg's surfing wipeout and a tarantula scare. Now moving on it was Mike & Carols room to close out my trip through time... THANK YOU for allowing me on the tour and actually hang in the Brady Bunch house. A dream come true and I'll cherish for life.. IT'S WORTH THE MONEY FOKS!

I won a trip to meet some of the stars from the show. I didn't know which ones would be there beforehand. Barry Williams and Christopher Knight gave a truly heartwarming tour of the home. They had the bicycles thr kids rode in the backyard. They had the Brady Bunch dunk tank thing. The home had the same carpet that was used in the show. Every detail is so thought out. A lady owns this home and has done an amazing job preserving the treasured memories of this home. They are about to start doing private tours for the public. I highly recommend the tour.

The best part by far is the tour guide, Tony Rivera, who guides you through each part of the museum as if he was welcoming you into his own home. The loveliest of humans along with being a wealth of knowledge. Couldn't think of a better way to spend part of my weekend, cooling down during this maddening summer heatwave while chatting with Tony, who will make you feel like part of the family. Another perk; the entire experience is free (though donations are encouraged by both them museum--let's keep LA history alive!). Gordon R Howard Museum, you won my heart for life.

During that time you could order a house from a catalog for $725. It had to assembled upon arrival, but I'm sure the owner could hire a few people to help. The docent gave a very informative tour of the house and explained the renovations and upgrades (indoor plumbing & electricity). The outdoor patio in the back can be rented for events! I would consider having a small party back there. It's lovely!

I knew that a few house fronts used in popular films were located in the area, including the famed Michael Myers home from the "Halloween" horror franchise. The home was rescued from demolition and moved to its current location, where it now serves as an office building behind the South Pasadena light rail station. Upon arrival, the sky was almost dark so everything was perfectly spooky. My initial plan was to walk around the outside of the home & post the video on TikTok. But as I made my way toward the corner where the home is situated, I noticed a small film crew with a couple tripods. I figured they were recording something for social media too, as it's not unusual to see that type of thing in L.A.. But I received an extra-special surprise immediately after seeing the famed Michael Myers mask atop another tripod. A young man dressed in Myers' signature coveralls appeared & told me he was shooting footage for his TikTok page with the group I saw earlier. And get this...he offered to put his mask on for me & suggested that I film him walking down the front porch! My timing couldn't have been better & it gave my little video the fear factor I wanted. Fall is just around the corner, so now's the time to see the house for yourself. And who knows? Maybe you'll get lucky & run into Michael Myers because apparently horror movie legends understand the importance of social media, too.
