Some locals call it the Witches House. Spadena is just so much fun. Try parking down the street and walking up. It is a nice walk. It is in Beverly Hills and you are not far from shopping and all sorts of fun things to do there. It looks like an old Hollywood movie. I think it was a little studio and moved here. I am not sure. Kids love it with all the cool colors of the house. They also have a Koi pond that is ever so pretty. It is best to visit around Halloween because they really decorate it, but anytime of year is fine. It is just a fun thing to do on a nice day. Do not go when it is raining, there is no cover for you. The Spadena House is like something straight out of early 20th Century Hollywood Movie. It was so cool to experience this prop-looking house. It was ornate and beautiful! I definitely recommend taking your young ones to marvel at its beauty from afar. Unfortunately, you're not allowed to go past the gate. I heard that the house is opened up once a year on Halloween. It is then you can experience the Witch's House on a more personal level. I hope we can go tour inside one day! I highly recommend coming here! read more

Fun, cool, corky, Only in LA kind of a place! Right off Santa Monica Blvd in Beverly Hills. A witch house, Hansel and Gretel style with lots of personality and cool details! They do nice Halloween decorations here as well. 2 hr. parking, easy to find street parking. When I went to check it out there were 2 tour buses that stopped by as well. I lingered longer because it is a cool place to check out from the street, including a nice pnd with koi fish. It used to be part of a film studio, but it was moved here and it is a private residence with various owner over the years. It was used as a movie location as well. If you are into LA History and looking for interesting places in town to check out, Spadena House is a fun spot. Don't make noise and respect the area! Otherwise, enjoy a little trip to a fairy book house! read more

The Witch's House, also known as the Spadena House, is an enchanting house in the heart of Beverly Hills. The house was built in 1921 for a silent film movie studio, Willat Studios in Culver City.  When the studio closed, the Spadena family moved the home to its current location in Beverly Hills, where it has been since 1934. The Witch's House is a private residence owned by Beverly Hills realtor, Michael J. Libow. Tours are not offered. I love visiting this house once fall starts because it's the perfect place to get into the holiday spirit! Since it's "Walktober", this was on my list of things to see. To get more miles in, we parked at the park off of Santa Monica and Crescent and made our way to the house. You'll pass by a cactus garden, with all the Beverly Hills shops on your left. Once you get to Walden, walk to the next street intersection and you can't miss it- it's on the corner of Walden and Carmelita. You can't officially go into the house, but you can take a look at the outside, which is decorated with pumpkins and the Wicked Witch of the East and her ruby slippers. Definitely check it out if you're in the area! read more

PRO-TIP: There's free 2 hour parking at the streets near and across from the Spadena house. Don't get yourself a ticket and be respectful of the people living here! On a Sunday morning, there was nobody here and I had all the time in the world to snap as many pics that I wanted. I'm really glad to finally be able to see this house in the flesh! Always see it on spooky Instagram influencer feeds and it's as whimsical and charming as imagined. There are no trespassing signs and do not pick the berry signs! There are some pumpkins, an alligator in the pond, and some crows hanging out at the house. From the front in the late morning, the sun was a bit harsh so the pictures from the side came out much nicer. Lots of tour buses swoop by here quickly for photos. I'd definitely want to take pics in front of this house in cosplay one day (either Umineko or Little Witch Academia), so I hope to come back for sure. read more

Wanted to see this house for myself so I finally got a chance to do so. You can actually just go up to it and start taking pictures. No one came out. It definitely was worth it. The Witch's House (also known as the Spadena House, after its first residents) was designed by Hollywood art director Harry Oliver as a storybook house (an architectural style popularized in the 1920s). The house was originally built in 1921 to act as the office/dressing room for Irvin Willat's film studio in Culver City. In 1926, it was moved to its present location in Beverly Hills. After a second family moved in/out, the house fell into disrepair, its signature moat filled with soil. Luckily, it was purchased and renovated by a real estate agent. Presently, the moat is filled with lily pads and surrounded by a beautiful garden. Somebody clearly takes care of the property, adding whimsical touches like fake birds and an alligator head in the water. Also, if you're a huge Clueless fan like me, Cher wanders past the house when she's walking around to try to understand her feelings for Josh. PRACTICAL STUFF: There was plenty of easy parking nearby. Obey the signs and avoid trespassing and picking the berries. The house is definitely meant to be looked at (with the fake birds and all) but just be respectful. You may see a tour bus or two slow down for a glance at the house as well. It's probably fun to come view on/around Halloween although you may encounter more people then. read more

The Spadena House is great to see anytime of year because of its unique & unusual architecture. However during Halloween it takes on another layer of Spookiness, especially at night. They had the whole place decorated with Pumpkins, spider webs & lights. It was GREAT & added another stop for Halloween Lovers! The Spadena House is also called The Witches House. The History. Charles Willard Moore was the architect & he described this whimsical home as "quintessential Hansel and Gretel." Fans of the Movie Clueless will immediately recognize the home. This storybook shaped structure has been called a precursor to Disney's Imagineering concept. The house was designed by Hollywood art director Harry Oliver. In 1921 it was constructed & served as the offices & dressing rooms for Irvin Willat's film studio. It was originally located in Culver City & then in 1926 it was moved to its present location. It was converted from movie offices into a private home in Beverly Hills. It is a 3,500 square feet home. Over the years the home fell into disrepair & was feared on the verge of being demolished. "Oh look, another glorious morning.. makes me sick." I did stop before my visit to the Hocus Pocus house for some coffee. Finally! Finally I get to stop by and check out The Witch's House. This house has been in my bookmarks for quite some time and I decided that this year would be the year. I am a fan of spooky films and spooky season. Let's just say that I don't just watch spooky films during the month of October so with that, this house was a must for any spooky fan. The house is nicely decorated in the outside. Plenty of nice plants including some black dahlias, some berries, a little fountain pond to admire. I can only imagine how magical the inside must look. We had no trouble finding the house, finding parking or finding a time to take photos with no one else waiting in line or in the background. We did go early in the morning on the weekend but it was totally worth it. If it "reeks of children" you might be close to halloween time which I heard is a must at this house since they give out "good candy' out. The architecture in itself is nice to check out and admire. Do respect the house and the neighborhood. Dress up, bring a friend and have fun recreating the Hocus Pocus scenes or walk by it like Alicia Silverstone in Clueless. Whatever you decide to do, just know that "it's just a bunch of hocus pocus"! and that the weirdos come out during the full moon. Happy early halloween! read more
