Out in the direct sun with no shade

Overall I wasn't too impressed by the landscape and layout of this park, at times it looks like it could double as the TV set for AMC's "The Walking Dead" as a post-apocalyptic abandoned area that zombies could roam. It's not one of the South Bay's best baby/toddler/kid's park playground, but maybe convenient for local residents in the neighborhood, but probably not a destination park worth traveling to go to.

This park use to have this very unique piece of metal playset which had several slides winding down at different angels and stairs at different positions. The best part of it was the long slide in the front which u don't see these days. The problem was it got super hot during certain times of the year, and it was kind of dangerous for the younger kids, bc it's so tall so if a kid fell off from the mid section of it, it could be bad. So I got nervous whenever my kids went on it. Few years ago, they took the whole thing down and replaced it with a brand new non-metal set, it's definitely safer and nicer looking but not as much fun for some kids. Being in this park reminded me of WHO in Manila where all sorts of native languages can be heard at one point. This park feels like a much scaled down UN here sometimes! :) I'm always interested in other cultures, so that's a plus for me!!!! So far, a Panjabi woman shared her wisdom with me and her trick for making better chicken tikka masala, a guy from Mongolia told me an interesting tidbit of some famous person we both know, and the handmade dumplings shops from this Taiwanese lady. It seems easier for me to strike up a conversion with a stranger here than at other parks, one feels relaxed here with the diverse ethnic atmosphere and ppl seem to have very sanguine dispositions in this park. It's next to a little cozy and convenient library, so when I don't want to be overwhelmed by the big library, I come in here to read for a while, then take a walk after. There is always a parking spot for me. Boy, the phones are just ringing off the hooks today, it's that time of year again.

Seems safe enough now only during the day, but at night, the homeless sleep there, so be very careful. The police and park division are aware of it, but won't do anything about it. This is not the park I grew up going to anymore.

Nice park....fun and enjoyable place for kids...claim and peaceful park for adult to walk on jogging track... Next to public Library... Full of desi public...

Just recently came here for a night in the park movie, my family and I saw Cars for the 100th time. My youngest was wanted to play at the playground but he could not because of the fact that we were there to watch a movie, so I brought him back the next morning. The quipment is so much nicer than other parks located in Torrance, and the walking path is also a nice feature. Great for Kids.

UPDATE 1: Review #10 2026-024…read more Since my decade old review, Charles H. Wilson Park is due for an update. Major Changes: 2005: Annenberg Tree House 2009: Fitness Zone 2012: Turf Training Facility 2018: Children's Playground & Splash Pad 2024: Community Sports Complex's Roller Rink 2025: Tennis Courts LED Lighting Current Project: It was announced in 01/2025 that 8 new dedicated, lighted, & ADA-accessible pickleball courts will be built near (north) the existing courts. Early 2026 completion expected. Amenities: * Amphitheater * Basketball Courts * Batting Cages * Electric Car Charging Stations (PlugShare) * Farmer's Market (Tuesdays & Saturdays) * Fitness Course 0.91-mi. * Fitness Zone * Futsal * Horseshoe Courts * Indoor Sports Center * Live Steamer Trains (1st Sunday, 3rd Saturday) * Paddle Tennis/Pickleball Courts * Picnic & BBQ Areas (bouncer accessible with permit) * Playground * Restrooms * Roller Hockey Rink * Sand Volleyball Court * Softball Diamonds * Splash Pad * Sports Center * Tennis Courts * Tree House Donated by The Annenberg Foundation, the 2.5K sq. ft. Tree House was designed by Treehouse Guys, LLC & is the 1st universally-accessible tree house in a CA public space. The "fresh air gym" includes kinetic exercise machines, intuitive adjustable resistance machines, & calisthenics station for body weight exercises. I love this outdoor gym but the OCD in me has issues with not spraying down (sanitizing) equipment after use which is common for indoor gyms & it gets really dusty/dirty particularly after raining. Batting cage operator Tyler Sports, Inc. helped turn the defunct skatepark into a 10K sq. ft. artificial training facility for futsal & baseball/softball fielding; there's 2 netted pitching tunnels & 2 turf sports fields. This helped minimize non-rule abiding soccer players from practicing on the tennis & pickleball courts, & damaging the nets. Futsal is a fast-paced, scaled down version of outdoor soccer. The children's playground was part of a citywide initiative to modernize aging play structures & swing to meet current safety standards. I love the intricate "Spherical Spider Web" rope-based climbing structure! There's a smaller rock climbing wall for the younger set or kids who prefer to be closer to the ground. The only iffy equipment is the Stand-Up Seesaw; I've seen some kids accidentally falling or intentionally crawling underneath the seesaw while in motion. Yikes! That same year a splash pad was added to replace the defunct pond (which I miss dearly... I loved our local ducks!), turning the community's eyesore into a spot to cool off during spring & summer, using recirculating water system to conserve water (yeah, that means don't drink the water!). L.A. Galaxy & TUDN partnered to refurbish the rink's floor surface with Sports Court Defense tiles that are designed to be a safer, shock-absorbing surface, & better support sports: roller hockey, roller derby, pickleball (6 courts), futsal (3 courts), etc. LED lighting was added to the tennis courts for reduced operating costs, improved visibility (that would be me for my old fart eyes), & energy efficiency. I officially tried pickleball for the 1st time this year at YEE Badge Day at PowerPlay Pickleball (refer to Review #953), & I'm hooked! So I am especially excited for these new lighted courts... woot, woot!! The farmer's market has grown so much that they expanded to the small lot west of the softball field nearest to Crenshaw Blvd.; most of the food vendors are located there in addition to the ones near Dee Hardison Sports Center. I met Mel while taking a pic of the horseshoe courts; he's registered with the City to maintain the courts & was doing some upkeep when he spotted me. Mel's so thoughtful & generous with his time... I learned Ted Allen horseshoes are the best (unique finger grips for consistent throws, expertly designed for balance), about the Flip or Turn style (he prefers turn) throws, differences between kid & adult horseshoes, court clay, etc. Ted broke many records to his 10 world championships as well as holding them, including 72 consecutive ringers -- wowza! He even demoed a couple of pitches for pics & hit 2 ringers... what a surprising moment for writing this update! Charles H. Wilson Park is a 44-acre family-friendly, recreational hub that truly has a l'il something for everyone!

This park is spacious. Has picnic tables, aquatic facilities, basketball court, pickel ball and a good outdoor stage presentation facility for events. Place fits over a 1000 people at this outdoor event venue. Bring your pop up tent and your fold up chairs to feel comfortable. With that said, my #1 gripe about this park, only two unisex toilets available! Who would put a 2 person bathroom with a cipher code that can accidentally lock. These two bathrooms is stationed like a miniature hut stationed by the entertainment area. Who ever engineered these bathrooms should be reprimanded. It was a dumb idea for cipher codes to be implemented. One bathroom was accidently locked with no one in there! Terrible idea. Over a 1000 people and only as two restrooms nearby! If you had to use the use restrooms.. you have to walk in the other side of the park where the picnic area is located. It is quite a walk! Walked or wait 30 minutes. Overall, its comfortable park minus the restroom situation.

There's a community garden here with free mulch. There's a basketball court as well. I noticed lots of folks doing tai chi here. I also noticed groups of nannies meeting up here with their kids. There's no sand, dirt or wood chips at the playground area. The bad: One of the four swings could've used WD40. It was very squeaky. There was a man on the bench by the playground alone with a book who looked to be video recording the playground. I wasn't sure if it was innocent and he was potentially just video chatting with someone and showing them where he was but I was suspicious that a man would come alone and choose a bench by the loud children's play area to read rather than sit at one of the many other benches further away for a quiet space to read. The interesting: There's plenty of street parking. The playground is flat.

There are also walking paths that are great for riding bikes and scooters. The play area is pretty small for such a large park but it has the basic essentials and the kids had fun. [Review #831] 2024-032…read more I forgot that we visited Paradise Park years ago... I think it was a walking field trip from H's daycare/preschool: Leap & Bound Academy? My husband wanted to come back & visit a different park, & this one has some different & interesting play structures, including Saturn, train, & submarine. It does have your standard playground equipment; monkey bars, slide, swings, etc. that separates the big kids from the little ones for safety. The park has a large grassy field for frisbee, soccer, or just running around playing tag. And plenty of trees for shade! The park seems dog-friendly as we spotted several dog walkers during our playtime. There's a shaded picnic area for you to hold a small party, or hang out with friends; with picnic tables & BBQ grills spread out through the park. With the lack of food traffic, the BBQ grills & picnic tables could used some maintenance (rusted grills) &/or clean-up (cobwebs on grills, bird poop on tables). There's a tennis court somewhere; I haven't been but another reviewer posted a pic of the courts. And restrooms are available... again, don't know where but a couple reviewers mentioned they're near the tennis courts; however, there's no stall doors & they're dirty. Oh no! There's no parking lot that I'm aware of, but there's enough street parking around the park's perimeter. Not our ideal park due to its distance from home, but a fun layover when we wanted something different.
