The playground has a pirate ship theme. There are two parts of the playground (bigger kids and smaller kids). My daughter likes to collect pine cones here. The bad: The parking lot is above the playground so you have to go down a few flights of stairs or the ramp to get down to the park area. I think half of this trek doesn't have a ramp. The playground has sand which can be messier for little ones. The picnic tables are mostly small so it isn't great for huge gatherings (plus there are a lot of restrictions on what you're allowed to bring). The playground doesn't have shade. The interesting: They host a variety of kids classes here that include Japanese programs and kids' sports classes.

Ah, life was so simple then. And it's been decades since I've been back, and my, how it's all come full circle: came through to celebrate one of my cousin's kids' birthdays. It is almost exactly as I remember it, but with upgrades. There are more picnic areas now, the playground is up to date, most everything is maintained so clean! It was kinda cool guiding the kids to kite flying and watching them play games during the party. For a few moments there, I was back to my pre-teen self again. I was told they have festivals here once in a while, so I really should keep up with their scheduled events! I loved it then, I still love it now. Glad it's still around and still maintained so well.

The play area I'd say os good for ages 6 and under but, maybe some 8-10 years old kids can find joy too. They have a nice picnic area in the spacious grass and not too many tree obstacles to fly a kite too, or even navigate an RC drone or toy without electrical or utility wires either. This North Redondo Beach park has no sign with the park name that I could find…read more I always drive past it on my way to T J Maxx on Hawthorne.....see my review of the store for my secret short cut! haha Anyways.....I was out today in this crazy heat reviewing parks. It felt like about 90 at the beach, it's hot. But the park looked inviting with its beautiful shade trees. It's about an acre and a half, small, and has nothing but trees and grass, benches, a kids' playground, and restrooms. I like the old streetlamps, must be pretty at night. The kiddie play area has the oddest surface I've seen. It's squishy, like a thick sponge. I was unprepared when I stepped on it to take a photo and almost lost my balance. Seems like it would be a nice soft spot for a kid to fall. My pic of the sign tells more about it. This park is narrow, and runs for a block, through a residential 'hood. It's a nice cut-through for people heading to the plaza around Starbucks on 190th. And there were people enjoying the park today, even in the heat. A red-faced little boy was trying to reach the drinking fountain while his dad laid under a tree in the shade...... The posted sign got my attention, the sign that lists all the "don'ts" for the park: No dogs (true in every Redondo Beach park except the dog park). No bicycles. No ball playing. No skateboarding. No roller skates or roller blades. That's a lot of restrictions! If you come here, plan on just walking through and admiring the trees..... 10 photos are posted.

But unlike Valley Park or Veterans Park, for example, it's not a place to make a day of it. There's trees, grass, little benches, you can have a picnic there -maybe a reststop while you are out on a walk or a bike ride. But there's no barbecue pits and no open fires allowed. There's a little area with kid's things like a slide. And when I was there on a sunday afternoon there was a building that appeared to have restrooms but they were all locked up. It's got lots a shade, so like I said earlier, this isn't a bad place to have a picnic, just no barbecues or fires.

There are new picnic tables, both uncovered and under a few gazebos (large and small). May be a good place for birthday parties. Kids can play in a sand-less playground (hallelujah!) and in the grassy areas. You can also check out balls to play with from staff members on-site. A workout area is available for adults. I found plenty of free street parking across the street and all around the neighborhood instead. After nearly getting hit by a car a few times and getting approached by an intoxicated looking homeless or two, we finally made it to the park. And then that's when we discovered that the place is NOT DOG FRIENDLY. Omg! At first, I thought I saw the signs wrong and had to actually go up close to it. I also witnessed a bunch of other dog owners walking around the park with their dogs but many had them not leashed. That's when it dawned on me why the park has a no dog allowed policy. It's honestly very infuriating when people are so blatantly disrespectful about park policies and other people's safety. Not to mention the dog shit everywhere that really shouldn't have been there. Ugh. And that was enough of LA County shenanigans for me that day.

The community center, formerly the main library of Redondo beach, is currently unavailable and under construction. I always like the elevated ocean view, and found it's quite peaceful to walk around here.
