Spot close to Columbus circle. Have a reasonable amount of outdoor seating but indoor was very loud. They do play sports on tv indoors . I got the sofa trio with corn patty topper with refried beans and salsa. Ok dish and needed some more textures. Veggie tacos was actually very filling
We love el mitote! Margs are always nice and strong, the food is always good. Service is great (there's a little wait during peak times and no reservations). Ambiance is fun and great outside seating!
Pretty solid fish tacos here, perfectly battered and paired nicely with the sauce. The chips and salsa was okay--not my favorite type of chips as they were on the harder side, but still good. The service was also decent, we had to crane our necks to get our waters refilled but they were relatively busy.
A classic - bit pricer for your hometown Mexican food that's leveled up a bit. Perfect spot for a beer and a bite!
The al pastor tacos are excellent here. Tasty and very filling. Same for the guac. Fantastic. I'd take 2 stars off for: charging for chips and salsa (seriously, what self-respecting Mexican restaurant does that?!) and for the very high prices for what you get. But... Manhattan, amiright? But since I'm bad at math, still 4 stars! Overall a great meal with decent, if wanting, service. And a great location.

Three stars is a stretch, I was debating giving it two. Not sure how the reviews are so good on google, with 4.3 stars and over 1,400 reviews at the moment. The reviews on here are much more accurate. I was unimpressed with the food here, plain and simple. In terms of Mexican food, it felt inauthentic, bland, and lacking any appeal. The chorizo burrito wasn't great, the sauce that comes with the burritos is good so I relied on that. The chicken tinga burrito is just not truly chicken tinga at all. The restaurant itself was uncomfortable, I didn't like the seating at all. And the staff wasn't the best in any way. I would go somewhere else for Mexican food and avoid an average at best experience.
Stopped by for lunch with a friend after a workout class. We needed some quick fuel. I ordered the chicken tinga tacos, and my friend got the flautas. Service was super speedy our food came out in less than 5 minutes. The food was very decent, no complaints. My tacos did have a lot of cilantro, but I just removed some and liked them better that way. The salsa was delicious, it had a bit of spice to it. We sat outside since the weather was nice, so I can't really say much about the inside. Overall, a very decent experience and solid food. I will say it's slightly pricey for what you get, but not too bad. Solid overall.

This cozy restaurant on Columbus Ave did have a friendly crew who provided service with a smile. We ordered a few drinks and meals to share. I enjoyed the tacos a pastor. 3 small tacos per order. The business started picking up after 7pm. The place has bar and indoor/outdoor seating.
Super friendly staff, good solid street food. Sparse (1!!) tequila offering, better (2!) mezcals. We sat in the outdoor/street area, and it was cozy.
Randomly came here with my friend on a Sunday night after seeing a movie. It is a small setting and they do have outdoor seating but although it was crowded we got seated immediately inside. The waiter did bring waters right away and asked us if we were ready to order. For food: We started with guac and chips. Then for the main, I had the shrimp chipotle tacos with a virgin passion fruit margarita & my friend had the chicken tinga tacos and a coconut margarita. Overall I would say the food was decent and drinks were good. Was it the best I ever had No but I wouldn't mind coming back especially since the service was amazing and music was good(they played hip hop). They are very attentive and always checking to make sure everything was ok or if you needed anything. And just to add we came maybe 30-40 mins before they were closing and still service was great! Also the bathroom is nice and clean which is a plus.
My friend chose this place for brunch. It was around 12:30 PM on a Sunday and only a couple of tables were occupied. I'd read the reviews on here and wasn't too confident in her restaurant choice and the lack of patrons definitely made me even more weary. I ordered the trompito platter and jamaica drink. The platter was accompanied by salad, rice, black beans, guacamole, tortillas. The meat was flavorful, everything else was ok. Black beans were a bit bland. My jamaica drink was the color of red wine which was meant it was too concentrated. It came with agave syrup on the side which was great, so I could control my sweetness level. I def added some water to dilute it a bit. My friend ordered the breakfast burrito which was massive. She was happy with it. The service was pretty inattentive here. If you needed something, you'd really have to flag them down. Overall, OK spot for Mexican in the area. read more

The food was lacking for us. We had a guacamole , the ceviche and split a chicken tinga burrito. The guacamole needed salt, as did the chips (which didn't seem fresh). The ceviche was not to my liking at all. Don't waste your money. The burrito was just ok. I won't be coming back. read more

I like the ambiance here - it's a fun and festive atmosphere. Good steak tacos, shrimp tacos, chicken tinga tacos. I also like the churros with chocolate sauce, margaritas, and sangria. Decent prices and good service with plenty of outdoor seating. read more
Based on my experience I disagree with this 3.4 stars on Yelp. This place is bomb!! No wait, servers were nice and checked in on us frequently. -Pescado/battered Baja style fish tacos were my favorite. Fish was so crispy on the outside and buttery and flakey on the inside and I loved the red cabbage it came with. -Bistec/grilled steak tacos were also delicious. Meat cooked well. -La Mitotera salad had a great variety of healthy greens and tasted great in combination -Tres Leches was amazing. I doubt it will make in impact, as they're always crowded but El Mitote gets 2 stars from me for customer service alone. My biggest dining pet peeve is to be greeted, waited on and attended to AFTER tables that arrived after us and that is what happened tonight. We arrived on a crowded Monday night shortly before 7 pm. We were greeted and seated right away and offered a choice between indoors and outdoors. Unfortunately it took 15 minutes before someone acknowledged our table, and only AFTER they so warmly greeted the table next to us, that had jusy arrived. The whole evening, we came second to this table next to us, with our food coming out 15 minutes after theirs- again we arrived before them. Just left a sour taste in my mouth seeing the difference in how warmly the waitress treated them vs kinda cold towards us. Anyway, I ordered the chicken flautas which were delicious - though the salsa on top a bit spicy My bf ordered the chicken tinga platter and loved it except for the soupy beans! We also had chips and salsa to start. I was a bit surprised the chips came cold but were tasty. Salsa was too spicy for me but bf liked it read more
There comes a time when you think to yourself, been there, done that. Yet, sometimes you have a dining experience, and you say, WOW. El Mitote gave me the wow factor. El Mitote hits on all levels. The restaurant itself has a very festive vibe. If I'm ever in the area, either at the Lincoln Square AMC or the Lincoln Center, El Mitote will now be a mandatory stop. The food, service, music, and festive atmosphere combine to make for an unforgettable experience. My friends and I decided to have lunch and I was happy with the choice due to the aesthetics, fast service, and food in El Mitote! Fish Tacos: So delicious, I could not stop eating the tacos. I told them to remove the chipotle mayo and replaced it with the spicy avocado sauce. I ate all three I would order this every time! Steak Burritos: 3 of my friends ordered this and they loved it. Food comes out fast, service is sub-par, food is good albeit a bit pricey. Came here on a hot summer day for some Margaritas and a snack. This place is fast-ish. We were seated relatively quickly and had placed our food ordered, the food came out really fast! Before our drinks... and it was incomplete. We asked for some salsa verde with our meal and it arrived halfway through. The plates are all plastic, reminiscent of a school lunch tray. When I asked where can I go to wash my hands, he pointed the door and rolled his eyes like I should already know where it is. The food was good, we got Tinga chicken, Wild Mushroom Tinga Platter and Refried beans. Overall I highly recommend the Mushroom Platter it was very tasty. However for the price point the value is not there - I would expect much better service and plates. read more

Oof. Man. This is not good Mexican food. This is not good food period. Located not too far from Central Park. Decent outdoor seating. Inside has music blaring so unless you're okay with not being able to hear your eating partner or the waiter, then I recommend outside. Talk to the host, have a seat - the usual deal. Service is incredibly slow. They don't seem to bothered to take your order at all. But not being pushy can be good, so that's not a huge issue either. The chips and salsa are paid. $6. If you want additional salsas, add on another $4 per flavor. The chips are ... nearly stale. It's clear they've been fried a long time ago - and they're not even rewarmed when they bring them out. The salsa that the chips come with is pretty bland - nothing to write home about. I ordered the avocado salsa with 3 whole chili peppers next to it on the menu - and it was ... a bland creamy green sauce. Barely any spice - definitely not the level of spice one would expect from a proper Mexican establishment. Again - pretty mediocre. Now we're $10 in for a small basket of stale, cold chips and flavorless sauce. Cue the main dish - an al pastor burrito. If you haven't had real al pastor - it's basically pork shoulder slow roasted on a huge metal rotating stick. It's sliced very thin and oh so tender and flavorful. I mean ... that's what al pastor is /supposed to be/. Not sure what this was ... the meat pieces were hard and too chewy. And again, the whole burrito is sort of a lukewarm temperature. After all is said and done with tip we're reaching $35-40 for ... below average food. read more

My friend and I came here for a late dinner after seeing a movie at the nearby AMC Lincoln Square theater. It is a super cute place with a pretty varied menu, however they did not have horchata, my favorite Mexican drink. I was having a hard time deciding what I wanted, but what else is new? I finally went with one of the platters: Grilled steak with caramelized onion, served with Mexican-style rice (I got an extra order of this because I didn't want the black beans), arugula salad, guacamole, and tortillas. The meal came on an adorable orange tray. There was a generous portion of grilled steak in small pieces. The steak was incredibly juicy, succulent, well seasoned, and bursting with flavor. The rice was a nice orange color with peas and carrots in it. It was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The salad was light, crunchy with a slightly acidic touch. I even tried the guacamole and was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it. There were chopped tomato, onion, cilantro, and jalapeño in it, which made it a bit spicy. It was a decent amount of food and I took home half of it. The service was solid and our waiter was very helpful with the menu, patient, and nice. I would be open to returning and would love to try the battered fish tacos, chipotle shrimp quesadilla, carnitas tostada, and chicken flautas. read more
Very Good Mexican food on the UWS. Super cute place, 208 Columbus - 69th and Columbus. They have nice outdoor seating with heaters. The inside is bright and colorful and reminds me of a Mexican fair. Once you step inside, you know you're in for a good time and good food. We put our name in at the hostess stand and were told it would 15-20 minutes for a table, so we went inside to the bar because the margaritas looked great. Found two seats at the bar and there was only one bartender, this Friday night, and he was super busy. So busy, that he never had a moment to acknowledged us. We sat there just about 15 minutes, before the hostess came to take us to our table. Once seated the the service was excellent. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. Tinga Tacos come three to an order. Chipotle seasoned shredded chicken topped with fresh homemade pico de gallo in a soft corn tortilla. These were so good! Enchipotlados - was the real winner of the evening. A large dinner platter with chipotle garlic shrimp. Cooked to perfection, the tender shrimp cooked in a tomato and chipotle seasoned sauce. The dish comes with mexican rice, black beans, arugula, pico and guacamole and fresh made tortillas. Good, authentic, flavorful Mexican food. It's usually crowded so get there early, but it's worth the wait. read more

The restaurant has a fun and lively decor with murals. I had the tacos al pastor, and they were excellent with lots of achiote, onion and pineapple. They were served with side of green salsa! The agua de tamarindo was excellent, the chips were fresh and the salsa was not too spicy and very flavorful. We also ordered the steak tacos (FYI, the steak was cooked with onions and was not clearly specified n the menu), so if you are not into onions, you should order something else. read more
