El Meson has been a long-standing favourite of mine for the reason they never disappoint on flavor or great service. They have their own parking lot so it's never been an issue. 2 primary things 1. I got food poisoning. Currently on the potter every 6 minutes 2. Bill comes and the automatically add a tip. I was going thru my routine and about add 20% before I noticed the already added tip. My waiter didn't say anything and was about to let me roll with adding about 35% in total. And they are very expensive and this is coming from a person that frequents upper scale dining (I'm not a prick- I promise) Last , the burrito fajita I ordered came out Luke warm. I guess I can blame myself for this. I honestly wouldn't of left this review had I not gotten food poison. The food was okay, but the price of the food could have been better if it wasn't on one of the special priced days. Also the server was terrible and he never came over to ask how our food was or if we needed refills or anything. And then when we left he proceeded to look out the window at us to see what car we were driving. So he gave us a shitty look because we didn't tip due to his terrible service and due to the small queso being $7.25 and the size was the small you get for the free salsa. I am a huge fan of Mexican style food...I mean who can go wrong with any food that includes cheese and not just shredded or cal iced cheese, but creamy cheese! And to boot, most Mexican restaurants provide chips and salsa at no extra charge (el meson was not one of the exceptions! Yay!). The experience was a decent one. Atmosphere As you walk in your senses are greeted immediately with the wonderful smell of fresh veggies and meats being cooked on a grill...to top it off, the interior is decorated in bright colors and graphics. Staff The greeter was very pleasant and sat us immediately. The server was not very interactive and had a very serious demeanor about him and provided minimal service (took our order and brought out our order, along with the check)...if we needed anything else, we had to track another staff member down (who was very accommodating) Food I was very pleased with the amount and taste of my food...I ordered the arroz con carne. The meat was tender and the amount of quest sauce served was spot on. Price This meal took place during lunchtime.There were several options for a lunch menu that was very reasonable...especially since the portion sizes were still a generous portion size. We stumbled upon this restaurant on accident and glad we did! The service was amazing and the food was fantastic! Usually we don't like the queso that comes with the chips that you can order separately, but this one was really good we actually ordered another one since we ordered a small. The steak meat in the taco was seasoned amazingly... like perfect. Usually you don't get a lot of flavoring at many Mexican restaurants, but this one had the best seasoning to their food. The only thing I really didn't care for was the rice it was a bit dry, but I mix it with my refried beans anyway. Our waitress was Antonia, she never let our drinks go below half and she kept up with the chips and salsa she was spot on with coming to get our order she checked on us but didn't do it when we had a mouth full of food which is amazing she was very polite very nice again spot on. read more

Just want everyone know this el meson is not the same, the whole crew staff and management went to el beso in bargersville . we came in and had to ask for our table to be cleaned and the seats, they were nasty. I eventually had to hunt down my server to order our food. The food is not the same. Our server was nice but super slow. We will be going to el beso. read more

This is your average Mexican locale - it's similar to all the other Mexican family restaurants in greenwood/south Indy. It's part of a local chain found around Central Indiana and this location is the newest addition. They just opened in early December or so. You'll get free chips and salsa - I'm picky when it comes to my salsa and my fav salsa is at El Arado in Fountain Square. This salsa made me think of Tostitos at first, but tasted better in subsequent bites. I got the Arroz con Pollo (was disappointed that the menu has a wide variety but not a huge depth of options - I wanted mole. Alas). There was a lot of queso and the chicken and rice was good. Overall, if you are in the mood for a Mexican American restaurant, head here and try it out. read more

My husband and I have had dinner here on a few different occasions and we were pleased each time. Honestly we always order the same meal and we're never disappointed. The chicken, steak, and shrimp fajitas are great. I was get the lettuce, sour cream, and rice I don't eat guacamole. The meat is always seasoned and cooked well. I'm not a fan of the fact they only bring like 3 tortillas at a time but I guess that avoids waste. The drinks a so good and they're always running some type of special. Pricing, I would say is reasonable. Dinner for 2, with a drink each, less than $50. The dinning area and restrooms are clean. Always has the best queso!!!! Whenever we have party's I stop by her bro grab a large order of chips, salsa, and home made queso. It's so creamy and you can obviously tell it's fresh and made with real goat cheese. I always get get the Arroz con pollo. Uses the same amazing queso, so you know it's always going to be delicious! Service is super faster! I think the most I have ever waited is maybe 10 minutes for our food! This place is so good it got to a point we were going probably once a week. Very good authentic Mexican food. They did just recently make menus and maybe ownership changes. Which means some favorite were taken off an prices went up about a dollar. I love this place. I come here about once a week for the Speedy Gonzalez at lunch. The staff is always super nice; sometimes they're singing along with the radio, which is playing music in Spanish, rather than Musak pop stuff that takes you away from that authentic experience. This place is one click below average in food quality and taste. I am being very gratuitous in giving them 1 star. The food was very bland, and also of low quality. The guacamole, white queso dip, and even the salsa was sub par. The guacamole was thin and didn't appear to be 100% avocado (probably stretched with who knows what). The white queso dip was just plain melted cheese from the processed cheese food block. It was served lukewarm and was starting to congeal when it came to the table. The salsa was noticeably thin, and just uninspired in overall taste. The tortilla chips were also too thick, heavy/greasy and not very fresh tasting. The chile relleno was absolutely terrible. It had a funky tasting 'wang' to it. The tostada/ chalupa was soggy and a huge mess. The rice was very plain and nothing special. I will finally add that the only thing that was remotely redeemable about the food was the refried beans. They seemed to have a fresh and an authentic taste to them. The fajitas looked good at another table, but I don't know if I really want to bother going back to this restaurant for them, when I can get them anywhere else. When the manager came by our table to ask us about our meal, I was very honest with him. I was also very pleasant about giving him my opinion about the food. He was cool about it, and comped a good portion of our bill. I will now give it all an official big fat MEH. It's again disappointing and a big bummer. My personal quest continues in the search in finding an 'authentic' Mexican food establishment. Most of the ones I have been to in the Indy metro area are really just another schlep it out quickly - overpriced, and a dime a dozen situation. Just got done trying this place out with the family and we all liked it. It really seems like all the other Mexican restaurants out there, nothing different, don't get me wrong that did taste great...just nothing new! The staff was very friendly our waitress was quick and always checking to see if we were alright, that's a plus! I had a little bit of a problem that they were seating us a table that needed cleaning, not really the table itself but the seats had soda splashed on them and the floor was extremely sticky! I looked past that once getting our meals. They don't skimp on how much food you get on your plate, I couldn't finish mine. The meal I wanted was not on the menu but they still made it for me and made it right! Located in the old Pizza Hut on the extreme Southside of town this place doesn't disappoint. We were a large group (15) and they were very accommodating. They seated 12 of us at first and then the other three at a booth next to the BIG table. I know this can be very difficult for the servers but they persevered and were exceptional with the way they handled us during their busiest time on a Saturday evening. They were extremely helpful and fast. The food is your typical suburban fake Mexican food but is good and tolerable. Let waitress know my husband's chicken was not cooked for his entree. It was pink and all she said was "OH". Didn't acknowledge or offer to make it right. She was too worried about closing. "Jumbo" margarita had way less than satisfactory tequila in it.... my wife kept saying it tasted like a watered down lime drink. Chips where served cold and salsa was way over salted. I would give them zero stars if I could. We went to El Meson in Shelbyville, Indiana today 9/7/2020 to meet a friend for a late lunch. We requested a table since I have difficulty getting in and out of a booth. We were offered a booth but they declined our request for a table even though they had plenty of empty tables on both sides of the restaurant. We even offered to wait on a table if it had to do with a covid issue even though there were no customers on one (left) side of the restaurant. There were a few customers sitting at tables already on the other (right) side of the restaurant and there were even tables for a group of 4 people. But they still refused us a table saying we had to take a booth or nothing. Since they wouldn't let us have a table, we left and took our business elsewhere. We have been to this El Meson many times in the past but this is the first time we have been treated so rudely by the staff. It was as if they didn't want our business at all. Based on this experience we will never visit this restaurant again. They made us feel so unvalued and unwanted as a customer. I guess they don't need money or good customers. read more

I have allergies and I called prior to coming out to this restaurant. The reason I called is because another Mexican Restaurant (You can see in my google reviews) was totally unaccepting of my allergies and literally told me to leave and they wouldn't serve me. But when I went to El Meson, I was greeted with open arms and they treated me great. They were so concerned about the allergy that the waiter saw another waiter bringing my chips (I have a corn derivative allergy) that he rushed over to let me know they were corn. They were for my partner not me :P. So I told him wouldn't touch them. The food was delicious and the place was so clean and the atmosphere really good too. This is now my Mexican Restaurant of choice and I will go there when my Mexican food craving pops up. Which is pretty often. There are several locations around Indy that I haven't visited but I recommend if you have an allergy these people are very empathic and will accommodate you. read more

The waitress was very rude. She even cursed me calling me a Bitc# I called her it back. I was shocked and mad how your employee treats your customers. So very unprofessional. She didn't understand grilled chicken for a taco salad. Asking if I wanted veggies. I showed her a taco salad on the menu. She maybe was making fun of me a fat person eating a salad. This is by far the best Mexican meal I have had in a while. It's funny how everyone asks what is that. I get the molcajete and OMG it is awesome, steak chicken shrimp pork and cactus! You think cactus? It is amazing, try it. If you have 4 or 5 people it will fill you up and still take home a box. The margaritas are good too. I ordered a quesadilla with onions and bell peppers (a fajita quesadilla) and I got a tiny cheese quesadilla with a huge plate full of peppers onions and mushrooms. Then when my bill came my peppers onions and side of sour cream cost more than the dang quesadilla! Lol Needless to say will not be going back. Also, their salsa was extreme mild.
