This was a really pleasant surprise inside Mercado Antón Martin! I visited the market just to visit a neighborhood market, knowing my veggie diet would probably preclude my eating there. Lo and behold, COMIDA VEGANO in enormous letters at a lovely little corner booth.
I had the menu del dia (good price for Madrid at 10€) with gazpacho andaluz, pisto with rice, and a vegan brownie which was to DIE FOR but not literally because vegan. Everything was really well and freshly prepared; you know it's a good meal when you can taste the quality of the olive oil.
The woman serving me, who seemed to be the sole proprietor of the place, was so warm and kind. My Spanish is limited and she was incredibly patient and helped me understand the menu. My fellow veganos: don't count out eating at the market. read more
