Great little place for menu del dia at 12 euros. Clean and quiet. Each dish is made fresh and the little dessert jars are fantastic!

The place is in great location so close to plaza mayor and their menu has SO many option!! Vegan, vegetarian and also gluten free. We started with the eggplants fritters - so delicious! Then we had the soy steak with Curry, which I liked a bit less, and the veggie paella which I LOVED! Overall great experience, good service and great location!

So many beautiful Vegetarian options! I wish we had a restaurant like this in San Diego! It is a charming little place, tucked away from the crowds but still very close to the city center. Family owned and very friendly! I started with the butternut squash soup. It was hearty, delicious and VEGAN! My only complaint is I was so full after this that I didn't get to try anything else. But everyone's plates around me were full of colorful veggies! Something I've been lacking during my time in Spain. I was so impressed with the presentation of every dish on every table! I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in Madrid. Especially if you're looking for a healthy option.

    Literally a work of art

I searched high and low to make the right selection for my first bite to eat in Spain, and boy did I choose correctly! I heard that Spain had a high concentration of vegans, so I was hopeful that I'd have plenty to eat. My suspicions were confirmed when I found Yerbabuena! Yerbabuena is conveniently located right next to MARKET, and is pretty easy to find. We were promptly seated in the clean and modern seating area. I was delighted to see that all of the other diners were locals! That's always a fantastic sign. The menu is in Spanish, so it's a bit hard to decipher if you're not local. Although, you're guaranteed to find something you'd like by searching for key words! The server (owner?) was absolutely adorable and super sweet! She didn't speak English, but we were able to communicate effectively due to her patience. Our server brought out bread and a small appetizer prior to bringing out our food. The bread was marvelous! It was whole grain and obviously home made. The small appetizer was a small piece of veggie meat, surrounded by veggies and topped with vegan cheese. We each got our own personal one. This was INSANE! My meal came with a side salad, which came out first. I never knew a side salad could be THAT outstanding! It was pure art, and contained everything from watermelon to sesame seeds. The ingredients tied together perfectly and created a deliciously refreshing starter. I ordered the vegan paella. This was my first (of many) paella in Spain, and it definitely left a good taste in my mouth! Let me just start off by emphasizing the artistry that goes into all of their food. It was all assembles beautifully with so much care! We all know that we eat with our eyes first, which lead this meal to be double satisfying. The paella was BURSTING with flavor, had a hearty amount of sauce, and extremely fresh vegetables. This place was an AMAZING entrance to Spain, and I will definitely keep it in mind when I come back.

Our favorite vegan place in Madrid. Beautiful green food, with daily menus which delight our taste buds. We had the vegetable soup of the day, salads and their home made desserts. My avocado endive salad was laced with their home made herb dressing - to die for. I could eat here daily. Reservations are compulsory.

Simply marvelous!!! A must go while in Madrid, please check the hour's prior to your visit (something I didn't do). Enjoy!!!

Free appetizer, I do not know what it was but it was good!

We had a great dinner, started off with the bread rolls, very tasty. I ordered the Thursday night dinner special: Appetizer: it's free!! And they choose it, it was delicious, two tiny bowls with herb rice topped with a deep fried zucchini and then a pumpkin sauce, a Cherry tomato and a slice if cucumber, served with a small shot of melon water!!! Oh my! I wanted more, much more! First course I chose the potato salad which was super delicious, very refreshing and best if all vegan! Second course I ordered the stuffed peppers, this dish was my least favorite, there is just way too much going on, they need to tone it down a little. We could identify any one particular flavor. So we didn't eat more than 3 forkfuls. Dessert: the layered chocolate & vanilla pudding. So delicious, the bottom layer is vanilla pudding, followed by a cookie, then a caramel like pudding and finally the dark chocolate pudding. This is served in a small glass, enough to share and best if all it isn't too sweet. (See the pictures) TIP: the portions are HUGE! We ordered one of the daily menus and only one dish, and we shared everything. Two people can eat off of one daily menu. Dinner is €15 a steal for how good the food is. And it includes a drink and a tea for the dessert!

Here for lunch today. I think this place is really 3.5 stars for the food and 4 for service. It is all vegetarian and the items that are vegan are clearly marked, which is great. I ordered the: Cream of Potatoes and leek soup, which is vegan and quite good. Asian style seitan and tofu pasta, which tasted pretty salty Carrot cake, which was just okay. Hubby had the: Veggie Paella, which he commented wasn't so good. All in all, we thought the service was great, but the food was just meh. We like that it is vegetarian and vegan friendly.

Amazing and original vegan food. The dessert was amazing. This is must in Madrid if you are vegan or veg.

They probably prefer it that way because the quiet vibe appeared to be part of the ambiance they're seeking here. We just found it by chance on Google Maps as an alternative to the beef-heavy eateries in the neighborhood. We just felt a need to eat healthier. The menu was small and appetizing, and we treated ourselves to two 3,5€ glasses of Zafra Blanco, a crisp Spanish white wine that freshened our palates. We started our meal with a complimentary helping of a "creamy" beetroot dip accompanied by lightly crisped pita chips (Photo 7). Next came the 12€ Spinach and "Parmesan" Croquettes, six lightly fried, falafel-like spheres drizzled with cashew nut mayo (Photo 8). They provided the ideal bites. Jamie went for their signature 15€ Moroccan Bowl with corn couscous, beetroot falafel, sweet potato, spinach, cherries, pickled cucumber, tomato, and fresh dates drizzled with mint yogurt sauce (Photo 6). It was quite a cornucopia of flavors that meshed quite well together with the falafels the particular standout. I decided to go for the 8€ Brochette of "Chicken" with chunks of zucchini and onion and satay sauce over a bed of sweet potato noodles (Photo 9). I'm not sure what the "chicken" was, but the flavor and texture was surprisingly spot-on. At the same time, I'm glad I limited myself to one skewer because I wanted to save room for dessert and the 4€ bottle of sparkling Green Apple Cider (Photo 4). Jamie and I settled on the delightful 6,5€ Tiramisu Cake dusted with Cocoa and swirled with Toffee (Photo 10). We finished our meal with 2€ cups of Cortado with the right amount of warm, steamed milk (Photo 5). The proprietor spoke a rollicking Spanish accompanied with gestures, so I understood him well enough and followed him to the back. Bypassing the lovely front dining area, I was greeted by a spacious room featuring low seating, bright paintings and ornamentation, and comfortable lighting. I took off my shoes, set them on a shelf, and found a seat to survey the room. There were many decorations, but they didn't clutter. The seats, though low, were quite comfortable. I sat as if I were a lowbent kid inspecting a snail. Yatiri features an a la carte and menu of they day for €11. I went with the latter, ordering Guiso de Lentelas (lentil soup with carrots), Arepa con Berenjena al Graten (arepa topped with eggplant and cheese), and Gelatina de Remolacha (beet jello). The lentils were great, resting at the bottom of their deep bowl. It came with seeded bread, dense, slightly moist. It reminded me of home and my mom's attempted at homemade spelt bread. Then the open faced arepa came. The crunchy corn gave way to a more chewy topping. Dusted with herbs, I enjoyed the eggplant. It was topped with cheese. From the taste, I think it may be faux cheese. The gelatin was the strange one. I didn't know what I ordered and finally looked up remolacha once home. I tried to place the subtle sweetness with that final flavor essence. It makes sense now. Beet! Overall, I had a great time. I want to go back and take some pictures. It seems I found my first blog worthy place in Madrid.

I know this one was exactly 5 months ago, because we touched down in Madrid on New Years Day, and this was the first place we ate (sounds like they've been here for aeons, so I doubt they've changed significantly since January.) My plan when we landed had been to just go down the list I'd made before we left of the best quick food places near our hotel, and eat at the first one that *was* open on New Years. I was worried there wouldn't be any and we'd be eating snacks from a convenience store, but nope! This place was indeed open. Open, and an absolute *madhouse*. I'm not sure if it was just because it was New Years, they were open, and much of the street wasn't, or if they're always this crazy - but it was a decent wait to order, to the point that it wasn't *entirely* clear whether we were even waiting correctly to order, since the line had kind of turned into a blob. Ordering and picking up our food was slightly nerve-wracking with how crowded it was, and there didn't really appear to be anywhere inside to sit, so we figured we'd sit outside at the tables... that we got immediately yelled at for sitting at, because it turns out all the tables right outside their entrance, actually belongs to their next door neighbor. So if I were ever back in Madrid, I *would* totally consider getting food here again, but I'd just probably plan on bringing it back to the hotel, vs what we ended up doing, finding the closest nearby flat non-private surface and eating it standing up in an alley. It definitely felt like a cool historic building inside, though, would've loved to dine in, if it hadn't been wall-to-wall packed, which it sounds like they might just always be. Food was great, though. We shared (this was plenty of food): An order of the cider-braised sausages - wonderful. Bonus, we learned from personal experience, you definitely want to get an order of these sausages, as not only are the sausages themselves delicious, the resulting au jus was also great for dipping the other items into.) An order of the ham and cheese croquettes - pretty tasty, though they did fall apart. Even tastier dipped in sausage juice, though then they *really* fell apart. Worth it though. Didn't look like you got a lot per order, but looks are deceiving - they were *rich*. An order of their famous mushrooms - I was a bit surprised, given the name literally means "the mushroom bar", that they only had a single mushroom dish, though given the sheer volume of that one item they clearly sell nightly, I can see why. Anyway, as a mushroom fan... they were certainly tasty mushrooms, perfectly cooked, but in my opinion, just a bit oversalted. Also had a glass of sangria for 2.50 euro - it is extremely good sangria, though the glass for 2.50 was pretty small. They also sell it for a better price by the larger container, but sadly, while I absolutely loved the European spirit of trusting people to be responsible after leaving with a to-go alcoholic beverage... they don't sell the *larger* sized sangria if you aren't dining in. Was too bad, as I absolutely would have loved twice as much of that sangria, but it clearly wasn't worth standing in a long ordering line a second time for it.

If you're looking for delicious mushrooms look no further! Beautiful old restaurant. Great service!read more
