I was going to start this review with a joke, but I'm not feline it right meow :p The cat smell is noticeable coming in, then mew get used to it. It was $12 an hour per person. An hour was paw-lenty fur me. There's three floors of cats here. The 1st floor had adult cats. They were pretty chill, you could go up and pet them or they would come up to you if you had treats (which I recommend purchasing). The 2nd floor had teen cats. They all had bad cattitude, we didn't spend much time here. The third floor had the kittens. They either had the zoomies or were catching some Z's. I definitely recommend checking this place out, it's pawesome!

They have made a number of improvements at El Jefe since it opened. Most noticeable is the cafe portion- when it opened, you could get a canned coffee on your way in, now there is a whole separate entrance to the cafe and gift shop where you can get all manner of cat enthusiast swag as well as a good cup of coffee! They host both yoga and bingo, although I've never been to either, but I like the concept. They also have local art work for sale. The cats are of course adorable, but in my experience they are fairly standoffish. I know that animals have their own personalities but I wonder if the concept works for them- since you are paying for an hour (although I've never seen them sweep people out) I wonder if it encourages folks to approach the felines so much that they are done with it. The kittens in the kitten room tend to be more outgoing, but I also saw some unattended kids in there who were being pretty rough with them. I'll assume the best of the adults and guess that they were staying out since there is a limit on how many can be in there. I love following on social media and hearing about adoptions.

This was a great find! It's never too busy and the cats are well cared for. It was an enjoyable time to chat with friends while we got to play with the cats. A friend even ended up adopting one of them! I've been back a few times with different people to share the fun.

My daughter is a big cat lover so we went to El Jefe together. We got her an Italian soda as a treat and some cat treats for the felines next door. As some other reviews noted if you have 35 cats in one building there is going to be a decently strong cat smell. I wonder if they could have the litter boxes in a sectioned off area spreads from the main area it would lessen the scent. We enjoyed walking through the three stories of the building and meeting all the cats. There were a lot of different personalities. The cat treats definitely made my daughter popular. She had a great time and if you're really into cats this would be a good place for you.

I'm currently in Arizona for work and I'm away from my cats. Of course, I have to go to a cat cafe to get some cat love. I've been to a few and I loved this one in particular. It wasn't too cramped. There are several rooms (including a kitten room). They have a storefront right next to the cafe where you can pay for coffee, cat treats, or cat merch. The set up of the cafe was cute and as clean as it can get with multiple felines running amuck. If you fall in love with any of the cute cats, you can also apply to adopt them

My what big paws you have!

I follow them on Instagram and enjoy seeing all the cats and the happy "tails" when they get adopted. Unfortunately when I stopped by, all of the cats and kittens were passed out sleeping. There was absolutely no waking them, so I didn't get the joy of interaction that I hoped for. I don't obviously fault the cat lounge for this, but it was a bit disappointing! I also wish their was a "Get to know me!" Wall that explains who each cat is and their age, likes, dislikes and overall personalities. As for the location, it's nice a central, clean, well kept, and didn't smell of litter boxes. It was a nice place to just walk around in and see the sites.

I love this place. Cute cats all for adoption and good coffee and cookies. Very welcoming and warm. They have a kitten room and a cat tv.

My 8yo son has been asking to visit the "cat-fe" for ages, so we finally got a chance to go, and I'm so glad we did! We spent a wonderful hour visiting with so many sweet kitties! We went with no reservations at 4:30 on a Monday and the place wasn't busy at all, which was lovely. There were a few people on the first floor working with laptops (and cats in their laps), which seems like a lovely idea-- I will definitely be scheduling an off-site meeting for my coworkers! The cats sorted themselves nicely into "want to be loved on" on the first floor, "prefer to chill by themselves" on the second floor, and "baby kittens" on the third floor. My son and I spent a long time playing with the kittens and a feather wand, while my husband was happy to chill on the second floor, scrolling on his phone with a cat on his lap. The facility was clean and well-maintained, and it's obvious that all of the cats are happy and well cared-for! It was a lovely way to spend an hour drinking hot chocolate and loving on all of the resident kitties while they wait to be adopted. We will definitely be back!

Went here for my boyfriend's birthday and we had such an amazing time! Staff is really nice and kitties are great! Lots of cats and definitely worth the cost and for only 2$ you're given a baggie of treats, we ended up using most of our treats on our little favorite fella but there definitely was enough for everyone! I'll sure be coming again soon!! My top 3 places in Tucson! The price is 12/person for an hour but that includes a free drink so it's ENTIRELY worth it! Ps to anyone planning on bringing their kids here, teach them manners! This is essentially a foster home and so many of these kitties just got here. Don't let your kids stomp, scream and especially don't let them jump down the stairs from the kitten room! Thanks!

My daughter and I had a really fun evening here, watching a movie and playing with all the cats. She loved the kitten room. In her words, "Best day ever!" We had drinks and some popcorn, and the staff were friendly and talkative. We'll definitely be back!

He needed eye removal surgery along with some dental work so a month later I took him for that. Before I get ahead of myself, he also has some sneezing fits which they gave me medication for before his surgery which it seemed to work. They did blood work three separate times while he was under their care. Fast forward to taking him in for a pre adoption appointment in November 2025, they gave him the all clear, saying he was in good health and he may just need more dental work in the future which no big deal because they set me up with Fetch pet insurance. The agent setting up his insurance account informed me all of his teeth would be covered and if he needed special food in the future that would be covered too. It also sounded like a good deal because they are the only insurance that covers pre existing conditions that shelter animals typically would have throughout their lives in the shelter or on the streets. Cool. One month later, December 2025, he had sneezing fits again so we took him to friends of Pacc clinic because Pacc recommended them to us to use after adopting him. They diagnosed him with herpesvirus, didn't even take blood work or run tests to confirm it, gave me medicine for him. It had been a week and he was getting worse so I took him to another vet for a second opinion. This was earlier this month January 2026. Good thing I did because I found out he has calisivirus, mycoplasma virus, kidney dysfunction, and is severely anemic and needs to go to the ER asap to get a transfusion. I've already spent near 1 grand on medication and vet visits, now I'm going to spend who knows how much on a transfusion he needs to live. How could they not have caught all of this at Pacc with the amount of tests they ran on him, I'm very annoyed and angry, I feel like they withheld this information from me or they were cutting corners there. I want justice for my cat for their lack of care for him and for myself financially and the emotional toll this has taken on me. Also, the agent at Pacc that set up my insurance for him put his age at start of insurance as 4 instead of 12. So the "great deal" on insurance I thought I was paying was all a lie. After submitting all my recent vet expenses for my cat, I discovered this major error and had to report it and I was charged a pretty penny of back pay along with a hefty increase in my monthly payment. Extremely disappointed. I also called the insurance to ask about the prescription food coverage he needs for his kidneys and they said the agent at Pacc misinformed me and his food will not be covered. So I just had to pay almost 60$ for only 24 cans of food that will only last me a month. They need to not be giving out false information and have some more competence when it comes to filling out insurance forms. How do you put 4 instead of 12. I could understand maybe putting 2 instead of 12 due to just simply missing a single number, but 4?! The only reason I'm giving the extra Star is because the over all staff of volunteers there are incredible. The people who aren't getting paid by Pacc, who show up to volunteer, those are the people that make that place even worth going to. Never going to Pacc again. It's so sad that so many animals are there that need homes and so many people go there and think they are getting the best care but they aren't getting the full disclosure on their animals health. It's not just me too, I've heard other stories from people fostering and adopting through them as well, one of them being a kitten with ringworm, they weren't told he had ringworm and they ended up needing to get rid of their couch and all their kids stuffed animals and spent a lot of time cleaning their whole house only for it to come back three other times. They need to be honest with people so they can decide whether they can take in the animal financially and if their home is equipped to handle them. Please if you decide to go to Pacc, please please please make them do a recent medical evaluation with blood tests and any other tests you think they need especially if it's an older animal.

As someone who has volunteered there for over 15 years, I can attest that there are 3 separate large areas for different populations of cats (adoptable/sanctuary cats, Feline Leukemia cats, Special Needs/less than social cats) and each area typically houses between 20 and 30 felines. There are multiple rooms with screened in porches for the cats to enjoy, benches for visitors to sit on, and the only time I've seen the cats "swarm" is at the end of the day when cleaning is finished and they're expecting their treats. The post in question also claims that there is an online schedule of hours indicating that the shelter is only open to the public one day a week for 2 hours. I haven't been able to find that; instead hours are listed on Facebook as shown in the image I'm including. PAWSitively CATS is run by just a few staff members (some part time) and a few dozen dedicated volunteers. The cats are well cared for and happy.

If there was one word to describe this shelter, it would be: Depressing…read more My visit to Pawsitively Cats genuinely was an experience I never want to feel again. I am someone who ADORES cats, the type of person that will take in a stray and rearrange my whole life to care for them until their last breath. My love is so great that it pains me to see these adoptable cats living in such an uninviting space. This shelter is open to the public one day a week for TWO HOURS. I thought it was an error when I saw that schedule online, but it's true. Upon entering, the building is flooded with adoptees, and for a cat lover you'd think that'd be a dream, but instead of excitement I felt a wave of anxiety. This shelter has dim lighting that doesn't allow you to see the cats clearly, and there's no space to really connect with any of them. There didn't seem like any sort of organization to pinpoint which cat was which, and since a lot of cats do look alike, you could only hope the one you bonded with is the same one you're adopting. As I tip-toed around the cats to look at the ones in cages (for medical or behavioral purposes), I could just sense the discomfort in their eyes. Safety measures seemed nonexistent in this place; anyone could easily step on a cat's paw or trip with how many swarm around you. The worst part was when I had a tour of a backroom where countless cats were fighting for a spot to feel the fresh air from a screen window. It was like looking at a can of sardines; I can't imagine any cat could present their best selves under these circumstances. Not only is there an extremely limited window to visit this shelter, but when you do, it makes you feel unhappy being there. You'll feel just as cramped and exposed as these poor babies. This situation could be the incentive for more people to adopt here, but I don't think that's fair on either side. The cats don't have any room to get to know their future owner, nor will they behave calmly when they're fighting for the spotlight. As for visitors, they'll feel more inclined to rescue the cats out of pity more than genuine connection. I wouldn't recommend anyone coming here, but then again, I almost wish you do come to decrease the population inside the shelter. I advise those who run Pawsitively Cats to work on expanding their business; a huge reconstruction of the place so there's more room for cats to live comfortably side-by-side. I am aware that there may be financial concerns involving this, so in that case, I'd suggest relocating these cats somewhere that can better cater to their needs. I'd rather that than have those innocent fur babies trapped in a dark and bleak shelter any longer. I understand that this shelter was built out of love for animals, I truly do, but for the sake of their wellbeing, Pawsitively Cats must improve. If not, people will not be inclined to help out, and the cats will be in no state to become someone's lifelong friend.
