We usually place 2-3 takeout orders each week. My favorite dish is the vegetarian burritos with cactus, which are likely the best in the Bay Area. Occasionally, we dine in, and the service, food, and ambiance are all exceptional. The food is always filling without feeling heavy. There are probably only a few fine Mexican restaurants like this in the Bay Area.

My daughter and I went to El Jarro for lunch today. We are not from the area, but we enjoyed it immensely.. I had chicken enchiladas Verdes, which was delicious and my daughter had chicken flautas which she loved. The food was fresh with quality ingredients and yummy. Also, the chips, salsa and guacamole were exceptional very fresh and the chips were thin, crispy Give this place a try you will be glad you did Bon appétit

Definitely the best outdoor covered patio with heaters for a chilly night…read more We accidentally landed up on a Tuesday night. Two for one margaritas are great value. The $5 tacos- instead of 3 for $22 - not so great! The tortilla chips felt oilier than I remembered and the red salsa seemed to need a little salt. We shared an order of chicken fajitas. They still need to figure out how to serve tortillas so that the second set doesn't get cold! The staff were friendly, kind and the kitchen crew looked relaxed and happy. Definitely one of our favorite Mexican date night places!

The server was friendly and verbally acknowledged this information, but that was the extent of it, just a hurried "Happy Birthday" and nothing more. What truly left me puzzled, and a little disappointed, was observing the table right next to ours; they, too, were celebrating a birthday, yet they received a cake, candles, and even the full birthday song performance. We were celebrating the exact same occasion, yet the treatment we received was starkly different. Furthermore, the children at the tables on both sides of us were extremely noisy, making it difficult to relax and enjoy our meal. The service speed was also quite slow; a single dish of BBQ corn took nearly twenty minutes to arrive. To be fair, the specific staff member who served me personally was indeed warm and attentive. However, given that they knew in advance it was a birthday celebration, I had expected to receive at least the most basic form of birthday acknowledgment, just like the other guests. When I saw a genuine celebration unfolding just two feet away from me, that solitary, verbal "Happy Birthday" unaccompanied by any further action, felt particularly hollow and lackluster. The BBQ corn was not only excessively delayed but also arrived burnt. Given the exorbitant prices, particularly the $40 fish entrée,plus the cost of drinks, our total bill for two people came to $151.87 (excluding an additional $53 tip); at this price point, such a level of quality is completely unacceptable.

As a Peruvian who cooks this food at home, I can say confidently: this restaurant doesn't deliver authentic Peruvian cuisine, and the prices don't justify the quality. We ordered the ceviche, which lacked the brightness and flavor it should have. The seco was worse...you can taste when someone hasn't actually made this dish before or even tried it themselves. The adobo tasted more like mole than traditional Peruvian seasoning. Across every dish, the flavors felt off, overseasoned or just plain confused, the sarsa de cebolla had cilantro! It's supposed to be mint! ‍. I've tried several Peruvian restaurants around the Bay, and this isn't competing. The reviews are mostly five stars, but I suspect that's from people 1000% unfamiliar with what real Peruvian food tastes like. If you've had it done right, you'll notice immediately here. The one bright spot: service was genuinely excellent. The staff was warm, attentive, and made the experience pleasant. That's the only reason this didn't feel like a complete waste. Save your money and your time.
