Café de olla without milk is my new fav drink here! My hubby's is the agua de nopal con piña. Great combination with a Mexican homestyle breakfast. Also, they have two TVs with the soccer games on! Who said "let's get breakfast and watch some World Cup soccer?!" read more

This place is small and sort of hole in the wall. It is not beautiful and it does not need to be. It is very clean inside and that is all we care about. Look or you will miss it. This is real Mexican food. I have been to Mexico and this is the real deal. The cooks are great, the service is very nice and they speak Spanish and English. They are happy to see you and will give you some great ideas for the their best items--it is the cafe de la olla. But everything is good. It is a must stop. We got out order to go and ate at a nearby park. We had a great time. Now, they close around 6 I think so don't be late. They have the best enchiladas stuffed with chicken or you can get beef. We love their omelets and I am very picky about that. I have had their steak omelet as well as their chicken omelet. I was in heaven. This place is great and it could use more customers. So go there. read more

Yes, yes, and yes! Think Meg Ryan and her infamous scene at the diner. Pounding the table, head back, hand in hair, dragging it down her face... This is every white girl who's ever stepped into this adorable lil' shop for an afternoon-plate of tacos. Sliced avocados, perfection. Hot sauce with an absolute kick but not so much that you start hiccuping. (Sweet waiter sees my face sweating profusely and calmly asks: "You need something to drink, Miss?" I politely say no, so he hands me a thick stack of napkins -- lolz.) The al pastor...savory AND sweet?! Is that even a thing? It is here, kids. Couple this with parking next door and you've got yourself a truly perfect lunch-day out. One thousand stars!!! read more

A lot of places claim to have authentic Mexican food, but not all of them serve authentic Mexican food. I am first generation American. I grew up on authentic Mexican Food. El Huarachito is a kitchen that reminds me of my grandmothers cooking. From the nopalitos, higado Encebollado, mariscos and salsas! Oh, and let's not forget the beverages, from their cafe de olla, licuados, jugos and aguas! Oh the memories! ¡Oh, los recuerdos! read more

Small "hole-in-the-wall" family-owned place in Lincoln Heights serving up delicious Mexican food. Everything is good and portions are generous. "Authentic" ambiance and the service is just fine, too. They have daily specials and the mole seems to be very popular. Parking might be a challenge and it's "cash only", so be forewarned. Recommended. read more

I love this place. Picture it...four coworkers on strike at a local school district office. We marched in the rain. It was pouring. We were cold and wet and decided it was time to go have lunch. We all agreed on Mexican food. As usual, Yelp to the rescue. My friend had been here and said it was legit. Up front: CASH ONLY. Bring your greens. Second: if you can't do spicy, let them know! Even their tortilla chips had a kick to them. My friend loves spicy, hot food and she was almost in tears. She said it was good. The server asked us if we were all new to the place, we let her know our friend wasn't. She said she was going to bring us a thank you gift to share. She brought over a plate of cheese enchiladas. We all dug in. They were SO good. I mean savory, tasty, not too spicy, just right. If you've been raised on Mexican food and you like authenticity, their food is it. I had the taquitos de papa, it was a HUGE plate. I ended up taking some home. My friends all loved their dishes. There were zero complaints about the food. Service was great, you feel at home. The restaurant is the typical hidden gem, hole in the wall restaurant. Sandwiched in between other businesses. The interior is beautifully colorful, music is playing. I'm rarely in this area but I do plan to travel to El Huarachito again because it's just that authentic and good. read more

So, this has become a regular of ours. I discovered they have very decent cafe de olla (which is something that I haven't really found since moving from the west side, where Monte Alban lives), and solid huevos rancheros. Delicious. For appetizers, they give you some regular (medium, but still spicy) salsa, and then they will give you a green salsa. Beware. This is not the mild, flavorful salsa verde that you get in most places. This is habanero salsa from the devil. It is painful. (remember, I can't take spicy) Their corn tortillas are made fresh in house and some of my favorite tortillas ever. Super thick. Perfect with everything. Cash only (there's an ATM right outside), and they have a single stall bathroom that is tiny and clean. Parking is street, but pretty easy since it's mostly residential. ***** (From March 2019) Cousin was in town and eating all the good foods that LA offers and wanted spicy. Ordered some shrimp enchiladas with red sauce. Medium, out of respect for my delicate tastebuds.... "medium" my left butt cheek! I took one bite and my mouth burned...while all the while Cousin was piling on more hot sauce. Cousin got the garlic shrimp and kept asking for something spicier (I'm honestly not sure if they just didn't have anything spicier, or they were scared she couldn't take it...but you bet she could!). I got the chilaquiles with mole and eggs. Everything was amazing. Cousin was just short of licking her plate. I had AYCE churrascaria at H&H Brazilian Steakhouse (go check out my review) the night before, my stomach were still wondering what it did to deserve such harsh treatment. Cousin's stomach is an anomaly. Pretty sure she has a hollow leg where all the food goes... Anyway. Back to the food. Chilaquiles with mole and egg was amazing. And spicy. I'm a wimp, k? Ended up bringing home the shrimp enchiladas and mole chilaquiles. Next day, ended up scrambling the chilaquiles with two more eggs, and it was perfect. Once my stomach stops hating me so much, I'll be back. read more

My boyfriend and I walked in for some authentic food. It is a bomb! My Pozole hits w all the spices and flavor, before I even out like and all the veggies in it. My boyfriend's burrito is always unforgettable! The waitress Bo's/waitress was so sweet, she brought all the sauces and fresh chips in. And mid way of our food, Michael came in to asked how we liked the food (opinions from this Asian couple to try their food the first time :) we loved it! But Michael WOWed us by bringing his coffee in the house, it's black coffee with palm sugar and cinnamon! I love it, considered both of us are not a coffee drinkers and still love it, it speaks a lot about their coffee! This is such an authentic little humble restaurant that will not catch the attention of travelers, but I would wish to eat their authentic dishes if I were to travel! And if you're the types of travelers, who want to try the cultural food instead of those just want to take photos of the cities and chill by the beach! Lol now that something is wrong with beaches, but the purpose of traveling is the food for me! ;) read more

This was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had! Estelle greeted us at the door and got a couple tables outside ready for the 4 of us. The spices were perfectly balanced and the chips were excellent. This place is probably well known to the locals, but its worth a visit if you live DTLA or San Gabriel area, South Pas etc.. its a small place runned very well, clean, quick service, and DELICIOUS food at an affordable price. The sauces, tortillas, meat, eggs are ALL right on. They braise their meat so it's tender, they cook their beans to make them creamy but not heavy, their hand made tortillas have the correct thickness and crunch. The salsa is appropriately spicy and smoky. What can I say?? Its perfect comfort food, and you feel like you're at a grandmother's house in some Mexican pueblo. Wow!! Please go, its worth it. I went for the first time over a month ago and couldn't wait to bring my husband back. I was like, "This food taste like grandma made it at home!" This place is really great. Period. We were looking for a good place for late breakfast/lunch and stumbled upon El Huarachito. After a short wait we were seated outside, which was exactly what we'd hoped. I was thinking about Huevos Rancheros because that my usual Mexican breakfast choice. However, I decided to get the Chiles Rellenos which were excellent. They were nicely battered and the cheese was a bit sharp and melty. Just so very good. My kid got a wet carne asada burrito and my wife ordered the same but dry with the beans and rice on the side. No problem. The salsa was very tasty too with a nice kick. I've read they have spicier options so I look forward to trying that next time. Be aware that El Huarachito is cash only so plan accordingly. All in all, just great. Friendly service, generous portions and authentic Mexican food. Delicioso! read more
