This spot is so good and have been coming here for years but unfortunately their prices have gone up drastically... I used to pay 1.50 for a taco and now they're charging 2.75 for ONE taco. This change in price was recent and their reason for it is increasing prices on "everything". I mean I understand increasing prices by a quarter or fifty cents but they went up a whole $1.25... I think that's just too much and I will not be coming back because I know plenty of other good taco trucks who charge $1.00-$1.50 per taco.

Can't believe I've never done a review for this truck. Shame on me! With all the taco stands in this area, you'd think this orange truck sitting behind a shopping strip wouldn't be making it. You are oh so wrong! These guys have been here for a VERY long time. What makes them 5 star IMO is that over the years outside of painting the truck orange nothing's changed. Their food & service hasn't changed. Prices are still the best around. Orders are always fresh & hot. I'm no pro & idk what goes into the making of a gordita shell but man they've got some of the best. They aren't tough or stale tasting as I've had at other trucks. The tortas a very good too. Never had an issue w/ portions or orders being wrong. Their salsa is yummy too! If you can get past what some would say is a shady/ghetto area, then you'll be able to make it to some really tasty bites that come with great prices & a smile. Yelp on my friends!

On the cusp of another milestone review, I'd like to update a past review and leave the counter unchanged. Basically, on subsequent visits to this taco truck, I've been able to obtain those barbacoa, carnitas, and al pastor tacos I was craving in my previous review, and I'm left with no alternative than to bump El Grand Taco up a star, because they are grand indeed. If you watch the likes of Andrew Zimmern or Anthony Bourdain, you'll know that the cheek is one of the most delicious bits off virtually any animal, from cows to fish. The barbacoa (cow's cheek) is rich and savory here, and the tender, slow-cooked al pastor pork exhibits enticing flavors, with subtle hints of spices that you might not expect, like allspice and cinnamon, almost like a cochinita pibil. Such subtle use of spices is also one of my favorite things about Greek lamb or sausage, and leaves my mouth watering until my next visit. Even the common fajita beef is amazing on corn tortillas - and all are dressed with onion, cilantro, a huge chunk of avocado, crumbles of queso fresco, and a dash of enlivening salsa verde (see picture). El Grand Taco moved their truck from the back to the side of the covered seating area, so maybe something changed, or they're just moving with the sun and the season. Either way, as I suspected last time, I think I've found what they do best - now I'm hooked. And at $1.50 a pop, it's a fantastically cheap lunch.

The fajita taste's really good, lots of flavor. The torta is pretty big and pairs nicely with the green sauce.

Cheap, fast, and high quality. They are also open late. They use real grilled steak, avocado and sauteed onions in the beef tacos.

In the current national food truck frenzy, you'll often hear that Houston is privy to a burgeoning…read morenew fleet of trucks. And, to be sure, the quality and quantity of trucks that have popped up in the last year is astounding - that is, insofar as the challah roll and truffle oil types go. But really, those are only a small percentage of Houston's mobile food fleet: when it comes to taco trucks, Houston wrote the book. To that end, I decided, "Enough with following the aioli trucks on Twitter, I'm gonna pull over at that shady pollo asado truck I see parked on 249." And so I did, at La Norteñita. The small, yellow truck has a couple of cartoonish chickens painted on the sides, so, in passing, I thought I might be in for something along the lines of Pollo Campero or Pollo Loco. The worn trailer housed a stern faced proprietor, who seemed about as confused as the few patrons seated at nearby picnic tables were that a bolillo like me was stepping up. Spanish is exclusively spoken here, and not wanting to put the cook through the hassle of listing off his menu (which I didn't see posted), I just shot from the hip and got three chicken tacos on corn tortillas, with onion and cilantro - a pretty standard taco truck order. The chicken was excellent, chopped up from a whole, rotisserie style chicken. This meant that one of my tacos did have a couple of cartilaginous bites from the rough hewn bird, but it was tender and juicy with savory but not overwhelming spices. The fresh chopped onion and cilantro are the perfect compliment, and a sizable tub of spicy green tomatillo sauce was thrown in the bag, which I liberally applied to these delicious tacos. $4.50 for 3 amply stuffed chicken tacos, que bueno. This is definitely a working class truck of the sort that puts H's in the wrong place, for example, on "abierto" but not on "hamburguesa." But these trucks are really Houston's heritage, catering to local painters and carpenters and the occasional gringo like me, serving up delicious, homemade tacos and tortas. I like a delicately fried avocado taco with cilantro slaw as much as the next guy, but in the maelstrom of new gourmet mobile eateries, don't forget about the hard working veterans, and don't be afraid to take a chance.
