Food was very good as well. They do provide bread and charge for it but we came back a second time and they asked whether we wanted it or not and were happy to take it away. Drinks were great!! I would give this place zero stars if I could. My friends and I sat down and were speaking in English to each other. One of the servers came over and started berating us out of nowhere. He said Americans are entitled and called us naive. He then proceded to tell us to f**k off multiple times. He made a point to walk back and forth and say f**k off multiple times. I realize that some reviewers have slammed this place as an overpriced tourist trap, but I was actually quite happy with my whole experience. I made my way to the bar and was quickly served by a friendly bartender. This is a Tapas bar, so you are expected to explore the menu, and yes, if you're not careful things can quickly get out of hand. However, the prices are clearly marked, so all you really need to do is count as you go: 2 euro each for chicken samosa, veal cake, and lamb fritter = 6 euros + another chicken samosa because those little babies are delicious and 3 beers at 5 euros each = 23 euros+ the piece de resistance, a 9 euro plate of octopus in garlic Olive Oil!! = a grand total of....32 euros. Ok, this is math that I can do for once to the square root of Yum Yum. So was it expensive? I guess so, but the food was completely worth it. I haven't had octopus like that since I had studied in Spain many years ago. It was perfect with a somewhat nutty flavor, and the rest of my tapas were equally yummy. My only issue was that they had smoking within the bar area (loss of a star) which for even in Europe is like clinging to something as archaic as a pager or VHS tape.. No one at Tapas 52 tonight --those at the service window, or sitting outside or waiting to get in -- must read the reviews. The place feels like it is THE place to be in Lisbon on this Saturday night despite the poor reviews. It was busy all day, in fact, as the crowded intamacy and energy from what feels like regulars drew my attention earlier as a passer-by. Now as a customer I found a seat at the small bar and asked for a red wine from the very young and competent barkeep. He quickly poured a taste. I liked it and he filled my glass. We never discussed price. It was 5 Euros. No rip-off, no shock pricing. It seems one pays immediately in Portugal so there should be no surprises. The price seem fair to my American standard. For tapas, I had the #47, potato with ham and egg. The portion was large. A fried egg atop a pile of thick chips and sliced dried ham. It was 9 Euros. It was plainly prepared, tasty but not gourmet. There are times when I travel that I feel I am in the best place on earth for me. This was one of those times. read more

We stumbled upon tapas bar 52 when searching for something to eat near by our hotel in Lisbon. I initially had some doubts due to fear of it being another tourist trap.. but was incredibly glad to have dined there. It was a busy Saturday night, but we were seated quickly. We ordered several tapas, with the black pork cheek being a definite favorite- cannot recommend enough! Croquettes we're good as well, and small enough to provide a good taste without making you feel like you ordered too much. Don't mind the poor rating, this place was Michelin recommended and serves up great tapas. read more

Ended up here because it was the last place to be open in the neighborhood to serve food around midnight. Let's get one thing clear. This place is not amazing for food or cocktails, although quite solid. It's also a pretty noisy place, that is as well significantly more expensive than other, objectively better places you find elsewhere. Now, what is interesting about this place is the people that come here. It's not as much of a restaurant as it is a dive bar, full of Americans. It's one of those meeting spots where people who don't know each other will start chatting across the table. It's also an amazing spot to do people watching - that's how after coming there to have a quick bite I stayed there on my own for two hours while sipping sangria (actually pretty decent, even if outrageously expensive) and doing people watching. Would I return there? As a tourist, I doubt it. If I was living in Lisbon for work, I most likely would. Am I happy that I actually went there? DO NOT COME HERE. They prey on tourists. They will bring you "complimentary" food and later charge you for it. When questioned, they will tell you "well, if you didn't like it then you shouldn't have accepted it from us". Also, if you order a simple rum and coke they will charge you $15 for it. This is one of those instances where you are grateful for yelp. With yelp you have a little power to stop others from making the same mistake you did. We found ourselves in this neighborhood hungry one night, and couldn't decide on the restaurant. So we stopped at the fantastic pizzeria up the street and had a little food. 6 euros for 6 pieces of fantastic pizza. Then not so hungry we went into this tapas bar for a drink and snack. We ordered a beer and a Pepsi, and had to wait at the bar 20 min for a table outside. We got the octopus and pork buttons at the recommendation of the server. He said they were fantastic with this look of orgasmic enthusiasm in his eyes. The octopus was 9 euros and the pork was a special, but how much could it really be right? Portugal is in a debt crisis and Greece is pulling down the euro. The octopus tasted like it came out of a nasty can that you would get from some guy named jimbo in the Florida Everglades after he had left it in the sun for to long. We left it and the server saw this and asked us not to make a bad review on yelp, there's a red flag. He said he took it off our bill. Then the pork came and it was good. Very tasty, but I would later learn it was 16 euros. So you say this is kinda reasonable, debt crisis aside, right? Well the pork was like two little nubs. If you make a circle with your index finger and thumb, provided you aren't shaq, this was the size of eight euros apiece. The kicker was then the bill came. 32 euros. We had a Pepsi, beer, bread, they removed the octopus, and left on the pork. Think of all the better things you could do with 32 euros. I actually bought a new blazer at Zara man for 24 euros. As a comparison. Ultimately time is on our side yelpers. Places like this will go out of business when mobile data plans are standardized internationally. Until then places like this will continue to rip you off because you will probably not look at this review until it is too late. We all make our mistakes in like and sometimes you get taken advantage of, hopefully this might help a few travelers to avoid my mistake. Now if you have finished reading this review open google and search for Faz Figura. This is an incredibly inexpensive michellin grade restaurant. I've gone to this tapas bar a couple of times. It is kind of expensive, but the food is worth it. You will easily pay €60 for 2 people. So as long as you know that, you're fine. The entrée that they leave at your table at the start is €9 itself. Glass of wine is €4.50 but given their location, I don't even blame them. I recommend that you do not order too much, as the price can get out of hand very easily, and honestly you will have too much food. 2 starters and 1 main course is enough for 2 people. These little sweet glazed chopped up potatoes, the slow cooked pork, the asparagus stuffed mushrooms (the meat stuffed ones were a bit salty) and the wine they recommended was perfect. Those potato's though... craving them. Didn't like this annoying patron who kept smoking inside. It might be legal but it stinks and I have asthma, so you were literally suffocating me. WARNING-READ ENTIRE REVIEW We came here as a recommendation from a tuk tuk because we wanted tapas. They were welcoming and sat us quickly. They gave us bread and chorizo with garlic mayonnaise as a starter. We ordered a green wine, fried goat cheese with tomato jam, codfish acorda, and mussels. The mussels were decent, but the goat cheese (honestly might not have even been goat cheese) tasted like it came out of a microwave before it was done being heated. The codfish was at least hot, but it relied on being cooked with a generous amount of melted cheese to make it palatable. Once we tasted these, we decided we wouldn't order more and move on to a different restaurant. When we got the check we saw that they had charged us for the "complimentary" starters. We told our server that we didn't want to pay for it since we didn't order it, and he brought us a new check immediately. The check was printed 5 minutes before we asked to have the items removed, so this is obviously a trick that they pull. We will obviously not be returning, and will be sure to tell our friends to avoid as well. read more

STAY AWAY!!!!! You've been warned, this is a stereotypical parasitic tourist trap that preys on the english-speaking (and therefore presumably foreign-ers). Oh, and that aside, the experience is pretty terrible too. So, my boyfriend and I were seated immediately when we stepped into this busy restaurant that we happened to stumble across. Ravenous from the million uneven/stone hills that line every single street of Lisbon, we were a bit disappointed when we waited in our seats for roughly 15-20 minutes before anyone came by to bring menus. We brushed it off though because right after bringing the menus, the waiter came over with a basket of bread, a dipping sauce of aioli (as they called it, though it was really just mayonaise and ketchup), and a plate of chorizo. Being that I lived in Spain for a bit, I knew better than to assume it was free, but we were so hungry that we ate the bread dipped into the sauce. We ordered tap water (and of course the waiter brought over two cups of water already poured and then the bottle he poured it from-this cost us 4 euros), and the "Octopus Galega Style" Yet another 20 minutes later, the waiter comes over with a plate of deep fried calamari. We told him that this wasn't what we ordered and told him what it was we really wanted, and he said that they had already made the calamari and we should just eat it and he would also put in the correct order. Another 15 minutes later, the smallest portion known to man of thinly sliced octopus drenched in oil came to the table. The food was tolerable BUT when the check came, they charged 2 euros for the bread we never ordered, and 2 more euros for the sauce they had the nerve to call aioli! (which we also didn't order). Then, they charged 4 euros for the water and also 9 euros for the calamari which we also didn't order but the waiter said we should keep, never mentioning he would charge for it since it was his mistake. All in all, 24 euros to sit in a loud restaurant that was playing terrible WWE/WWF style wrestling on it's televisions, slow service, and tourist traps abound. ALSO, patrons smoke right in the restaurant and ash on the floor/tables. We left still starving, a little more broke, and both REEKING of cigarettes. Service was slow and confused - obviously not able to manage the number of guests. Even though smoking is allowed, the air condition is not able to manage either smoke or heat. The place is crowded and loud, even on a Monday night. Conversation is barely possible due to the volume of the music (OK, so my age is catching up with me ) The food is good, more spicy than at Tapas Bar 47.
