Cake counter!

Stopped by this quaint panadería (Mexican bakery) after a 10k run by the missions. Glad we stopped. So many options to choose from and the pastries all looked so fresh and delish. The ladies working were so nice and accommodating. They also sell tamales! So much to choose from. Enjoy!

Great tres leches cake. Abundance of ethnic treats. Great pastry's and cakes. Parking is good. Staff is pleasant. If you want to splurge go for the cuatro leches

The bread is baked fresh, soft and delicious. The service is good the ladies are nice and friendly. When you walk in you might get a little overwhelmed but just grab a tray and tongs and you pick your own bread, there's no rush and I'm sure the ladies will help you. Every time I come to town that's the place I go to, the bread goes great with coffee . The place is nice, clean and filled with baked goods.

Visiting San Antonio I wanted to find a local panadería in the area that wasn't downtown. A firm supporter of Hispanic businesses that are family owned. El Folklor Bakery is a small yellow building south of city. Great employees, easy to get in and find all the delicious pan dulce. They had a good variety plus some that you don't see in CA. Fresh and sweet. It went perfectly with our hot coffee or hot chocolate that evening in our hotel. I will return when I visit San Antonio again in the future.

So if your visiting SA or you live near by this is possibly just a tiny bit further from downtown but not a bad distance to go for some authentic delicious pan dulce that won't leave a hole in your wallet. You could probably even use a bird or Uber scooter from the downtown and enjoy some talented graffiti art along the way on Hackberry and even take note of one of San Antonio's best steak places called the Lil' Red Barn to keep in mind for another meal later. I swear this panadería has added more pan dulce and options since I first started going here. Now there are other panaderías all with a little bit different taste and there is a difference. This one. Well this one whatever Manteca they use is not super lardy and it has a light fresh dance on the tongue. And it's enough to sink those teeth or gums into. Lol. As it's still possible to eat this with limited abilities for some. Whether you can enjoy it with a big glass of milk or a delicious cup of coffee. The pan dulce from here won't leave you disappointed. And on the weekends you can add tamales! Now the tamales, I won't say are the best but it's a fair representation of a decent tamale in SA. They do taste good but I think a little less masa would make it a little better unless you like it that way then it would probably be the best for ya. I hope you can enjoy and give this panadería a shot. It's my favorite about a 5-10 mile circumference of the area. I do have others I like to but this is a great place to go when you're in the area and close enough to downtown but able to avoid some crazy lines. Buen provecho!

My favorite memories of grabbing tacos on my way into school and being greeted by the kind staff members are always a highlight when making a stop at The Original Donut Shop. The staff is always understanding and attentive when it comes to providing service and food quality. I highly recommend this location to all of my friends that visit SATX!

They stuff these bad boys so they're bursting at the seams. On a whim, I wanted to take a break from my current breakfast taco and see what The Original Donut Shop had to offer. I ordered my usual: A potato, bacon, egg, and cheese taco. The bacon was finely chopped, which isn't the way I like to enjoy bacon in my tacos, and it was very egg-heavy. But it was still tasty. The order didn't come with salsa, so that was a bit of a bummer, too. I also ordered a half dozen of donuts, because they were extremely affordable. They picked the flavors for me and as I made my way through them throughout the week, I was amazed how soft they remained. Normally donuts will get a little stale after a day but these stayed pretty soft. The one I liked the most had a maple glaze. In addition to the above, I also got a carne guisada taco to save for dinner later. It was excellent, though I did need to floss my teeth after, haha. But that was probably the most flavorful carne guisada I've had in a while.

Aggressive drivers, anxious shoppers, and every retail worker putting in a Nikola Jokic triple-double. I understand it is a different beast of food service when it is December 24th. Christmas breakfast is what starts off your day before ripping through presents, and this year my parents thought Duck Donuts' Christmas-themed donuts would be a fun change of pace from the cinnamon pull aparts that we normally do. On Christmas Eve, we placed a mobile order on the Duck Donuts website, which requires a mandatory tip to order online, and we selected the ASAP option that said it would take about 30 to 40 minutes. My dad, who was in charge of picking them up, said they were kind of behind and typically that was fine. However, as the donuts were coming out of the fryer, they were immediately decorating them with the icing and the crazy and unique Duck Donuts toppings. When the order was ready, my dad noticed that the dozen donut box was quite hot. Donuts are not usually served warm like that. When he got home to show them to us, all the designs of their gingerbread and other Christmas flavors had melted. All the creams had completely melted. It looked gross. We put them in the fridge to try and preserve them from melting any more, but only so much could be done to salvage them from their depressing state. It was a little tragic. I feel like this is a very rare occurrence from Duck Donuts, as we have had donuts from this location before and enjoyed them. It felt like the fault of Christmas special orders and the rush that led to a breakfast disaster from what was meant to be a special start of the morning. All things considered, the donuts were fine. They tasted okay, but they gooped up in your hands and just felt wasteful. For the price, you would hope they would not melt before you got home. Duck and cover donuts. RIYL: Specialty donuts, just not on December 24th.

Recommend: Yes…read more After visiting Karolinas, I was in the mood for some coffee and a quiet spot to read, and I happened upon San Antonio Gold--so glad I did! At first, from the outside, I thought I was walking into a barbershop because of the door, but stepping inside was a fun surprise. The space is really unique--almost like a mini indoor shopping mall. The coffee shop is right at the front, but as you walk further back, there's a barbershop and a few other small shops to explore. Despite all that, it still has a chill, relaxed vibe. Plenty of seating and big windows make it perfect for hanging out with a book. I ordered the Holiday Inn Cambodia coffee, and it was fantastic. the service was great. Barista gave me a few recommendations. I'll definitely be back--this is a great spot to unwind, read, or just get out of the house for a little while. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

Now onto Gold, I was a bit bummed when he wasn't at the trailer but happy he opened up his own shop and started visiting regularly. From its humble beginnings of a few bar stools, limited menu, and a small space to the wide open space that is Gold today, the constants have been killer coffee, awesome service, and great convo if it's not a mad rush. From standard drip to espresso to imaginative inventions, the coffee is top notch. If you're hankering for something different, talk to them a they will take care of you. Staff has always been awesome and they definitely know what they're doing. I once asked about chemex ratios and was given an on the spot class. If you don't like good coffee, good service or a solid place to chill, then this may not be your place. Also, they let me bring my doggo, Pancho, in, what's not to love?!
