They were very good with the red sauce and Spanish rice. The beef had a very good seasoning and the chicken had a taste like it had been marinated for a few hours. I had the beef fajitas. The beef was tender, succulent and seasoned well. The only thing that I didn't like was that the fajitas had a sweet taste to it. I believe the sweet taste was from sweet bell peppers or sweet onions, nevertheless, it was too sweet for my taste buds. There was a time when Meso Maya was the go-to for upscale Mexican in Dallas. The culinary scene in Dallas has changed so much that it is not longer the case. But the downtown Meso Maya remains an icon and continues to deliver consistently good food and service. The restaurant still has the warm ambience and remains in good condition even after all these years. It was too hot to sit on the patio so we ate indoors. The interior is smaller than I remember. The restaurant still starts you out with complimentary chips which are strips, and a smoky, spicy salsa. it was great. I started with the a mescal margarita and it was excellent. The kid had Topo Chico and the wife had Prosecco. Everyone enjoyed their drink. For entrees, the wife had her favorite, the vegetable budin, which is like a lasagna. The flavors were deep and rich. She loved it. I tried the carne tacos and they were excellent! The meat was tender and smoky. The beef had been marinated for a wonderful flavor. Good quality with no fat. I usually avoid ordering beef at restaurants because I often get more fat than meat which I detest, but not at Meso Maya. Our server Luis was very good. I remember when they were located further down Lemmon Avenue in a much smaller space. They've since moved uptown, and the new digs are beautiful and very inviting. After we were seated, our server, Ruben, greeted us with a warm smile. We were especially excited since we arrived just in time to catch their lunch specials--and there are plenty of great ones to choose from. We started with a couple of frozen margaritas and a cup of queso while browsing the menu. The margaritas were spot-on--not wimpy at all, with just the right kick. And the queso? Absolutely outstanding--some of the best we've had in a long time. The salsa was excellent as well. My wife chose the lunch-sized chicken quesadillas, while I went with the #7 lunch special, which included a cheese taco, a chicken enchilada, and a beef enchilada topped with chili con carne. Our meals arrived after a short wait, and everything exceeded expectations. My wife was thrilled with the portion size--it was just right--and she was all smiles after her first bite. The chicken fajita meat was tender, flavorful, and perfectly marinated. My lunch special hit the spot and delivered exactly what I was craving. We had a fantastic experience at Mia's Tex-Mex. I did find where all the salt went. It went inside their "Famous Bean Soup". I ordered a large, and it was a salt bomb. I couldn't eat it. I also ordered their Chicken Mole which included rice and refried beans. The chicken is boiled and healthy. However, the meat was very dry. The mole sauce didn't taste very good either. The refried beans tasted moldy. Never had refried beans that tasted moldy before. Maybe this place used to be good. Seems to be touristy now. Service was poor. The menu itself is rather difficult to read. Small print and some of the pages are horizontal others are vertically making you rotate the menu. I ordered the lunch special that was a cheese enchilada and a chalupa...well what I received was a cheese enchilada and a tostada. I thought no big deal I will just let them know i ordered a Chiluba not a tostada. I tell the waiter and he informs me that's a chalupa. That's how they make their chalupas...um since when is it okay to just call a chalupa a tostada?! Those are two different things! It's super obnoxious I would have ordered something else. The enchilada was good the chips and salsa are also pretty good. They need to work on the menu and call items by the correct name. read more

I'd never heard of it before, but hey, sometimes those random stops turn into hidden gems. Unfortunately, this wasn't one of those times. Walking in, the place was... fine. Not dirty enough to raise alarms, but definitely not what I'd call clean either. It looked like it could use a good sweep. The interior is pretty barebones nothing memorable, and the bathrooms require a code from the counter, which is always a bit of a hassle. Now to the food. I ordered a super burrito ($5.35), a super taco ($4.49), and a Casa Delight ($1.39), bringing the total to $12.16 after tax. Starting with the Casa Delight: basically a fried tortilla dusted in cinnamon sugar. In theory, that's a win. In reality, mine was served at room temperature, which took away any chance it had to shine. If it were fresh and warm, I could see it being a solid treat, but as served, it lands at about a 2.5/5. The super taco was the biggest letdown. For nearly $5, I expected at least some flavor, but it was completely bland. It had decent size going for it, but that's about where the positives end. Otherwise, it missed the mark across the board. 1/5. As for the burrito... same story. Not hot, not flavorful, and honestly just a disappointing take on what should be a pretty straightforward staple. Another miss. That said, I'll give credit where it's due: the service was fast, and the employees were genuinely kind and courteous. That was easily the highlight of the experience. Bottom line: if you're in a rush and just need something quick, this place will get the job done. But if you're looking for anything resembling good Mexican food, or even just something with flavor, might want to keep driving.
