Wow what a pleasant surprise! Was expecting just a college campus version of Chipotle, but I was wrong! A. It's clean! B. The food tastes super healthy, in a good way! Not a hint of grease like normal fast food restaurants. Ordered the braised short rib (one of the predetermined options) and thoroughly enjoyed it! The sauce was delicious, not too heavy! There was enough meat - didn't feel gipped for once. Would definitely recommend this place!

I was in Newark, Delaware, at the University helping my son get back to campus life after three semesters at home due to Covid. We were both happy to have him resume his college life. We got hungry and he chose this place, El Diablo Burrito for early dinner. "The Devil" is a small local chain of Mexican-lite grub. He loves this "Chipotle" assembly line approach to Mexican food, and while I am a fan of South of the Border cuisine, I like a more diverse menu and the chance for a margarita or cervesas as a washdown. So, I let him pick where to eat, and I would go along with making him content. The line was short. He ordered a short rib burrito stuffed with brown rice, a couple of salsas, cheese, lettuce and a smear of guacamole. I went with a grilled fish bowl with house recommendations of brown rice, lettuce, pinto beans, pineapple and corn salsa, jalapeno slices, and top squirt of queso blanco. Son's burrito was fat with what seemed like a half pound of beef and all the fixings. He didn't offer to share it, and ate the whole thing as a watched in awe. His sly smile at the last bite was a hint about how much he enjoyed it. My bowl was tasty and very filling. Had to stop before I was half way done. The white fish was light with mild flavor, while the rest of the ingredients were a blend of hot, spicy and citrus sweet. Everything played well in my mouth. Amazing what a little pineapple can do for otherwise standard elements. At least I see what the young man likes about these places, even though they will never be my first choice in Mexican fare. We were in an academic community after all, and I was happy to learn something new.

My husband comes here all the time and raves about El Diablo. I finally go there chance to try it the other day. I got the short rib burrito which I've never seen as a meat choice for a burrito before and was excited to try! I got a bunch of toppings in my burritos including onions, peppers, tomato salsa and pineapple salsa. My burrito was so big they could barely wrap it up! Short rib was pretty good and tender. The whole burrito is absolutely delicious. We also go chips and sides of queso. The queso was good but I def. Like white queso better at other places. The queso was so thick instead of creamy. Chips were salty and good :) overall great meal for the price !

I wanted to love this place as the workers were very friendly, the energy of the place is fun and the location is prime. However, the food lacked flavor in my opinion. i do not think that there was enough seasoning and flavor in the food unfortunately. It was sustenance (a lot of food which is great) but the food just wasn't flavorful enough for me nor better than chipotle or qdoba for the similar price.

The unique flavors this place offers is different than any other burrito in Delaware. It's like a proper chef's interpretation of a burrito. Sorry my picture was half eaten. Peep the size of though. When ordering. Don't be afraid to ask about the toppings. Plenty of sauces, variety of peppers, etc that you could easily overlook.

"Are you sure it'll fit?" "I'll *make it* fit" Update: These guys are consummate professionals and their burritos will brighten your day. I'm always impressed by any place that makes a burrito the size of a newborn baby. El Diablo is a more exciting option than neighboring Chipotle and offers a larger variety of ingredients including fish, pineapple salsa, and an assortment of dressings. The tortillas can hold a superhuman amount of stuff and the portions are sufficient for two meals, or one gargantuan meal if you're overly ambitious like me. I think I'm going to go lie down... yum

Why would anyone go to Chipotle down the street when they can go to El Diablo. Great food, great sauces, great service.

It's cozy inside with ornate tables which seem to be hand carved and painted in a vibrant traditional style-definitely awakens your senses and mood. So the food...pretty damn good! I had perfectly seasoned steak fajitas served on a sizzling plate of peppers and onions. It came with rice, salad, shredded cheese, and of course soft tortillas on a separate plate. It also comes with sour cream and guacamole but I passed on those and decided to use the green salsa they provided at the table, which had a perfect flavor balance of savory and spicy. The portion sizes are unbelievable! My fajita plate was huge, I had plenty of leftovers to take home. My husband had a Torta Niurca sandwich which was massive. He loved it and was also unable to finish it! The service was fast and friendly. This is the second I've had lunch here. The first time I came I had chicken enchiladas which was just okay. Maybe that was an off day or maybe there are just certain menu items they have that they can knock out of the park. With the steak fajitas, they certainly did!

We stopped in on a Tuesday evening and were seated right away. It wasn't busy when we arrived, and while it did start to fill up, there was never a wait. The restaurant itself was clean and casual, and they do serve alcohol (it looked like they have happy hour specials as well, though we didn't try any). They brought out complimentary chips and salsa to start, with a note on the menu that a second basket comes with a charge. One thing to be aware of: the chips are not made in a dedicated fryer, so they aren't gluten-free. Service was a bit of a mixed experience. There was definitely a language barrier, which made communication difficult at times--our questions often had to go through multiple staff members before we got an answer. Food came out pretty quickly, which we appreciated since we were in a rush. That said, there were some hits and misses. I ordered tacos al pastor but was given steak tacos instead. I tried to explain the mix-up, but it wasn't resolved, and due to time, I just ate them. Unfortunately, the steak was overcooked and tough, and the tacos themselves were very basic--just meat on a corn tortilla, with extras like sour cream costing more. On the plus side, my nephew really enjoyed his kids' cheese quesadilla and fries (the fries looked crispy and well-made). Someone in our group liked the chorizo quesadilla, and another had the birria tacos and thought they were just okay--nothing standout, especially compared to other places. Pricing felt a bit high for the portion size and overall quality. There is a small parking lot, but we didn't have trouble finding a spot, which is always a plus. Overall, Casa Mezcal was convenient and quick, but between the order mix-up, inconsistent food quality, and communication challenges, it didn't fully hit the mark for us. I'd consider giving it another try if I were in the area, but with adjusted expectations.

Don't order takeout from here. Forgot my drink and my cutlery can't even eat my dinner.read more

I came in and I was kindly greeted, and since I was flying solo I went to the bartender was quick to greet me, got my chips and salsa to me (which is on the house), and took my drink order. The music was very festive on the inside, the wraparound bar is a nice touch, and the atmosphere overall definitely sets a vibe. I ordered some queso dip cause, why not and it paired nicely with the salsa. I then proceeded to order the Quesabirria Taco dish that was phenomenal and I HIGHLY recommend. The birria consommé that comes with it, it so good so dip those tacos like your tastebuds depend on it.
