Cabeza torta.... Amazingly good
Cj H.

We we're just going to grab 1 or two tacos to try before heading out to Taco Grande for dinner and loved the tacos so much we sat down and had to try more of their menu. We had 10 tacos, (4 birria tacos, 2 lamb, 2 pork 1 steak and 1 chorizo), 2 horchatas, 1 cabeza torta, and 1 churro. All and all we loved everything, and will probably make this our go to taco joint. We thought it was better than rivera taco too. Great price, great food, great staff.

This restaurant is tucked behind the Capriotti's. Food is authentic, a bit spicy and delicious! Staff is friendly. Ambience and music is great! A terrific addition to the Newark Shopping Center.

Was in the area visiting family and we were looking for a quick, easy bite when we came across Casa…read moreMezcal--our first time here. We stopped in on a Tuesday evening and were seated right away. It wasn't busy when we arrived, and while it did start to fill up, there was never a wait. The restaurant itself was clean and casual, and they do serve alcohol (it looked like they have happy hour specials as well, though we didn't try any). They brought out complimentary chips and salsa to start, with a note on the menu that a second basket comes with a charge. One thing to be aware of: the chips are not made in a dedicated fryer, so they aren't gluten-free. Service was a bit of a mixed experience. There was definitely a language barrier, which made communication difficult at times--our questions often had to go through multiple staff members before we got an answer. Food came out pretty quickly, which we appreciated since we were in a rush. That said, there were some hits and misses. I ordered tacos al pastor but was given steak tacos instead. I tried to explain the mix-up, but it wasn't resolved, and due to time, I just ate them. Unfortunately, the steak was overcooked and tough, and the tacos themselves were very basic--just meat on a corn tortilla, with extras like sour cream costing more. On the plus side, my nephew really enjoyed his kids' cheese quesadilla and fries (the fries looked crispy and well-made). Someone in our group liked the chorizo quesadilla, and another had the birria tacos and thought they were just okay--nothing standout, especially compared to other places. Pricing felt a bit high for the portion size and overall quality. There is a small parking lot, but we didn't have trouble finding a spot, which is always a plus. Overall, Casa Mezcal was convenient and quick, but between the order mix-up, inconsistent food quality, and communication challenges, it didn't fully hit the mark for us. I'd consider giving it another try if I were in the area, but with adjusted expectations.

I love it when a plan comes together, and that's exactly how it panned out for Plaza Mexico. On…read moreCinco de Mayo I intended to visit but much to my amazement they were SLAMMED and I mean their entire parking lot was full, and also the parking lot for The Brass Tap as well, it was intense. So I opted not to go because I wanted to experience their atmosphere, customer service and food on a normal day of operation. Fast forward to the evening after Cinco de Mayo. I came in and I was kindly greeted, and since I was flying solo I went to the bartender was quick to greet me, got my chips and salsa to me (which is on the house), and took my drink order. The music was very festive on the inside, the wraparound bar is a nice touch, and the atmosphere overall definitely sets a vibe. I ordered some queso dip cause, why not and it paired nicely with the salsa. I then proceeded to order the Quesabirria Taco dish that was phenomenal and I HIGHLY recommend. The birria consommé that comes with it, it so good so dip those tacos like your tastebuds depend on it. To say the least I am glad I went there the day after Cinco de Mayo and while I'm sure it was a vibe itself, I don't think I would have quite gotten the service and experience I did when they are operating on a normal day. All good things in moderation I guess‍.

I went there, got a pint, and placed my to go order. The food took about 30 minutes to reach me- and the last 20 minutes I was there the bartender asked me at least 3 times if I wanted another beer- I can't prove it, but it appeared to me the bartender held the food hoping I would order more beer- he was actually kinda obnoxious about it. My hotel was 800 feet away from plaza- when I got there it was cold. If your going to do to go, order it through door dash- and don't got to the bar and depend the bartender to look out for your best interest.

Oh boy. You guys should be thanking me for these whole 5 stars. The food is lovely. I'll give you…read morethat. I got an empanada and it brought me back to my Cuban roots. HOWEVER. The service truly needs to be retrained. I apologize but when I ask for a sour cream it means I want it now, not in 10 minutes. By the time the staff returns, my whole quesadilla will be gone, yet you will still charge me $1 for it. Crazy I won't lie. The staff genuiwnly will not check on their tables for 2-3 business days, so visitors please take that into account. The chefs back there deserve a big kiss but I do not love the attitude and lack of service from the waiters/waitresses. Again, when I ask for a water after finally finding you, it means I want it now. Not in 10 minutes. I'm sorry to be harsh. I hate bringing out my dark side. But I spend hours in this God forsaken place because the staff does not check on their tables. Mind you, please get an AC system- you are doing a disservice to your customers. Other than that, I adore your tacos especially the Baja ones because wow those have a nice little tang to them. Brings me back to Cuba. I really do appreciate the chefs in the back, specially that one cutie with dimples on not one but BOTH sides. lol you're adorable. Please take this as constructive criticism, per the 5 stars (you're welcome( but I am looking for improvements IF I return)). Sending love all the way from my home. Enjoy your Mexican food.
