Still THE BEST ... still AMAZINGLY GOOD... incredible service with great ownership (He's been here 20 years!). Whenever I go to Longwood Gardens or hapoen to be near Kennet Square ... I come here to eat! Everything is soooo good and the service is so welcoming!! The owner wasn't singing today but he was handing out candy and smiles!!! read more

BEST in Kennet. Great service, the owner is personable and appreciative for your business. Unbelievable flavor & unbeatable prices.

If you are looking for a restaurant with authentic Mexican food look no further!!! I've gotten the carne asada tacos and the quesadilla with Birria and it fantastic every single time! The service is fast and friendly! read more

The food was not even at the level of chillies, quality or flavor-wise. One of the reasons we went was for the price and good reviews of service but my bill for only 2 dishes and 2 waters was nearly $50! (They even charge for water) The vibes and ambiance were way off and the server was rude and unpersonable. This place is wayyyy over inflated with positive reviews. read more

Great local taqueria! I had the Tacos Al Pastor (seasoned pork) and Horchata. The tacos were well seasoned, with a hint of heat. I chose not to add more heat with the red and green sauces that were offered. The Horchata was as good as any I've ever had. Service was efficient in this quaint family restaurant. I missed it the first time I drove by. read more

Who knew Mexican food on the East Coast could taste so good!? With murals on the outside and a small, no-frills dining room inside, La Pena Mexicana delivers on excellent food and service. Stopping in around 1 pm on a Saturday in July, my wife, seven-year-old daughter and I got a table right away. Within minutes, our order was being taken and our food coming out shortly after. Each of us really enjoyed our food. My daughter loved the cheese quesadilla, my wife the enchiladas, and I the Tex Mex burrito with carnitas dripping with red sauce. It comes with rice, beans, avocado, and lettuce. The flavors explode in your mouth! read more

This is hands down the best Mexican restaurant in the area. Truly authentic Mexican food. The quesadilla is unmatched. The verde salsa is incredible. The crispiest homemade chips!! Can't recommend enough! read more

Food was delicious, but none of the staff spoke a word of English making it hard to get a table and order.

I had lunch here recently and the owner was incredibly welcoming. I had a chicken chimichanga which was really great and I would love to come back and try other items. The parking lot seemed a little hard to navigate, but there are plenty of spots and also spaces across the street. read more

La Peña Mexicana - HORCHATAAAAAA - Mexican Near Me - Kennett Square, Pennsylvania

Friendly staff. Great food and excellent horchata. We were in the area for the day and this was our second attempt to step in. The chips are made to order so they were hot and delicious. The guac was top notch and was enough to add to my tacos when they arrived. The Al Pastor was outstanding as was the chorizo. The lengua was tender but could have used a bit more salt. I'd go back just for the horchata with had great cinnamon and nutmeg flavors and was sweetened just right, a pinch of salt would have put it over the top for me but that's just my preference. If you're near you will not be disappointed. Muchísimas gracias por el servicio y compartir tu talento culinario. read more

You HAVE to try this phenomenal, hidden, affordable, hole in the wall in Kennet Square. This small, family run, taqueria has some of the best food I have eaten in my entire life. Every single bite you can tell is lovingly crafted, seasoned, and served with care. You can see in the back and tell that they know what they are doing and they are people that you can trust with your food. We took my very Caucasian in laws here and they gave their tacos two thumbs up. But if you're looking to step outside of your comfort zone, their beef tongue is so beautifully cooked. It's so tender. You can't go wrong here. Do yourself a favor, and eat here, and expand your flavor palette and try something new! read more

We had a wonderful experience here! I ordered the enchiladas platter and it was absolutely delicious, everything tasted so fresh. You can really tell they use high-quality ingredients. Big servings of authentic Mexican food. One of my go-to places. Nothing fancy, just deliciousness.

Excellent. Authentic mexican food at very good prices. What a super find! A hidden gem!

It's places like this that make me wish I could curse on this app. Instead I'll let my iPhone autocorrect what I want to say. These tacos are ducking amazing!!! Every place I've ever visited that I thought was the best Mexican ever eventually gets outdone by someone else. That's what makes me hesitant to call this the best I've ever had. But seriously. I can't imagine any place making tacos better than these. I tried carnitas, Al Pastor, and asada. Everything was incredible. But honestly next time I'd be tempted to just get three carnitas. They melt in your mouth like butter! And in a bigger testament, my wife and I started fighting over who got to eat more of the rice and beans. Perfect fluffiness in the rice and creaminess in the refried beans made us want to eat it forever. This place will seriously make me look for excuses to come out to Kennett Square just to eat here. read more

So many good reviews, decided to give it a try. Asked for Carne Asada tacos. Not at all what I expected. The meat was pre-cooked and dried out. Tacos run thru a steamer. Dressing? a tiny bit of (mostly dead) cilantro and similar chopped onions. Tiny side containers of red and green sauce. Mess Hall tacos. Will not return. read more

Love this little place and the other clientele seemed like regulars. The menu is extensive. The service very friendly and fast. The food ( tamales and enchiladas) fabulous! Wish we lived nearby. Next time we're in Kennett THIS is where we'll eat! read more

Got take out from here a few weeks ago and it was awesome! I was a little concerned about the language barrier when I called my order in , but there was no problem at all ! I got a fried shrimp platter and a pork taco to go. The shrimp platter was so heavy I couldn't believe it. The shrimp were deep fried and delicious- a little bit spicy. Came with rice and a salad. The taco was also quite good - authentic. Will definitely be going here more often! read more

The food is delicious and authentic Mexican! My family and I loved our food. The staff was friendly except for the young man at the cash register taking orders and serving the food. He was disrespectful and rolled his eyes at us several times when requesting sauces and water. He did not even greet us or make eye contact when ordering. The young man very clearly was not happy. My advice for the business is to have someone else at the register, if they would like customers to keep coming back- as their food is wonderful and the other staff members are great! read more

Delicious food & a variety of choices! The owner was so gracious in serving us quickly, however the young man at the front counter had earbuds on & was unpleasant while taking our orders. He acted like he would have been happier if we did not enter the restaurant, rolling his eyes after each order from our family of 5. read more

Very solid place. The restaurant almost can be called a hole in the wall, except it is located in a stand-alone building :) Note that the restaurant doesn't offer any alcohol, so you can probably bring your own, however, we didn't ask this question, so you might want to call ahead and check if you can bring your bottle. Extensive menu of Mexican dishes, also with good explanations for the different items. I had Tilapia fish tacos, which were very generous and tasty. The dish was served with the Mexican rice which I could have a full bowl just by itself - it was delicious. The family enjoyed chicken and beef burritos, and beef enchilada - all dishes were excellent. I also need to mention that the restaurant offers a number of fresh made fruit waters - I had the one with pineapple, and it was superb - don't miss it on the menu. Service was prompt and friendly. Definitely recommended. read more

I ordered 1 lunch entree at La Pena on March 19th, however, I found out when I received my credit card statement that they charged me for 2 lunches - not just 1. When I called the manager (several times) & texted him a photo of my credit card statement, he continued to deny charging me twice. Think twice before dining at a restaurant where the manager steals from you (even when you send them proof)! read more

Fast, cheap, friendly, and delicious as heck. Have not had a bad experience here in the several years I've been coming. Tortas, burritos, tacos, and regular old sides of beans and rice have all been delicious and fresh tasting. Staff were happy to accommodate vegetarians in the party. The place is clean if spartan, but that's fine with me--I'm just here for the food and jarritos soda! Only one tip: they tend to have a heavy hand with sour cream, so ask for them to go easy or leave it out if it's not your thing. read more

Tacos here are amazing. Right up there with some of the best I've had. The proteins were all exceptional, my ranking of what I tried would be carnitas - asada - pastor - chorizo (chorizo is typically my favorite!!). All very good. Only improvement here could be using fresh made tortillas. Tacos come with everything, and the salsas are delicious and have a kick! Other dishes I was not so impressed with (and hence the 4 star rating): tamal (dry, not enough corn flavor), flautas (overcooked inside, lots of tortilla), and chips and salsa (a bit burnt, but they are fried fresh and the salsa and pico are good) read more

Awesome little place that you must try if you love tacos. The red sauce had my mouth on fire - will be going green next time. Had the Alpastor and Carnitas - delish, kiddo had chicken quesadillas that looked humongous and he wasn't sure how to tackle it. I didn't try the quesadilla but he downed it before I started my 3rd taco. Ie-kid rested, kid approved. Boyfriend gets the burrito dry (nothing on top so he can man handle it). Support local! Tip well! read more

My wife and I stopped at La Pena Mexicana for lunch today. The restaurant was small, but the staff is extremely friendly and the service quick and excellent. Best Mexican food I have ever had. I grew up in Kennett Square and moved to Philadelphia when I was 18. For over 10 years, I've been searching for an authentic Mexican restaurant in Philadelphia that comes close to La Pena. Spoiler alert: I haven't. There is not a single place in Philadelphia that comes close to La Pena's quality in taste. I've had great Mexican food, don't get me wrong but nothing that comes close to La Pena. Every time I visit Kennett Square, I always stop by La Pena and grab their al pastor. I also stock up extra burritos to take home. What to get: Their burrito al pastor is one of the most delicious items I have ever had. Their pastor in general is fantastic. I have no idea what they do to make it so delicious but it's unbelievably delicious. If the burrito is too heavy for you, then definitely get the tacos al pastor. Their rice is also one of the greatest rice dishes I have ever tasted. The texture and flavor are beautifully done and cooked. I could literally eat the rice by itself, that's how fantastic it is. If you're in Kennett Square, do yourself a favor and grabbed La Pena. And then go to Michocana for dessert. read more

Doesn't look like much but what they lack in looks is made up through taste! Hands down some of the best Mexican food I've eaten. You can taste how fresh everything is made. Anything prepared will leave you craving more. Some of the best tacos I've ever eaten. I usually go with the chorizo tacos . Meat is marinated and delicious. Topped with cilantro, onions and limes on the side. For my burrito i usually get carnitas. Phenomenal! So filling, always hits the spot. Packed with rice, meat beans. You won't be disappointed. A lot of the traditional dishes are very tasty. The owners are very kind people always asking how you're doing and if there's anything they can do to make your experience better. We come here often usually a family of five on a regular basis. You'll see a lot of foot traffic coming through to pick up take out but the eat in experience is just as good. Try you won't regret it. read more
