Maybe the tamale filling could have included more chicken as it seemed mostly masa dough. Tacos were generously filled. They do give 2 types of hot sauce but maybe the filling could have been juicier. Loved the grilled onion that looked like a very fat scallion. This place is small and from the look on the outside, it may appear that it doesn't have potential, but once you get inside you'll be glad you came. It's cozy inside with ornate tables which seem to be hand carved and painted in a vibrant traditional style-definitely awakens your senses and mood. So the food...pretty damn good! I had perfectly seasoned steak fajitas served on a sizzling plate of peppers and onions. It came with rice, salad, shredded cheese, and of course soft tortillas on a separate plate. It also comes with sour cream and guacamole but I passed on those and decided to use the green salsa they provided at the table, which had a perfect flavor balance of savory and spicy. The portion sizes are unbelievable! My fajita plate was huge, I had plenty of leftovers to take home. My husband had a Torta Niurca sandwich which was massive. He loved it and was also unable to finish it! The service was fast and friendly. This is the second I've had lunch here. The first time I came I had chicken enchiladas which was just okay. Don't let the dull exterior fool you. You want to go in. The first thing you will notice is the incredibly fun, bright colorful atmosphere! Carved and painted table and chairs everywhere. It immediately put me in a good mood. Food is pretty standard Mexican fare, but done really well and with really GENEROUS portions. EXCELLENT selection of great tasting tacos! Good prices, friendly efficient staff. This would be a great place for a family gathering or any party. I don't think they serve any alcohol...but maybe that will change at some point. read more

This hole of the wall restaurant is adjacent to a grocery store. My friends and I almost missed the turn when we put the restaurant in our GPS. When we walked in I knew it was going to be good and authentic! The servers were very nice and explained any questions we had (never had cactus before!). I decided to go with a disk that was the normal Mexican fare. I forgot what it was called now but it's consisted of meats (bacon, chriozo, ham, chicken) and peppers with a glob of cheese on top. Omgg we got so much food! My dish was absolutely delish and came with warm tortillas. I also ordered a side of rice since it didn't come with it. Be warned if you order water they will give you a bottle of water and charge you for it (I guess you could ask for tap water too?). This was a great find. A true hole in the wall. The outside is very deceiving. Uhaul trucks taking up a lot of the parking lot but once inside it packs a yummy punch. I've been coming to this place for years for their Taco Tuesdays. $1 tacos, super tasty and affordable. My go-to flavors are the carnitas, bistek, and al pastor. Also their horchata is fantastic, and it comes in a huge container to go. Out of the three salsas they offer, the green one is my favorite. They've done some remodeling on the inside in the last few months, so it's much nicer to eat inside the restaurant now. Ordered takeout today for some mushroom quesadilla, huarechas quesadilla (w steak), and fish tacos that actually turned out to be steak tacos when we brought them home. Don't know what happened there since the lady who took the order recited back the order to confirm everything. Anywhos, the food is authentic and the portions rocked. The quesadillas were not what we were "used to," like w flat quesadillas sandwiching melted cheese and other things. The mushroom one was enveloped by a long, long quesadilla that tasted dense but in a real corn-authentic ways. Lots of juicy mushrooms. And the huarechas blew our minds off. Kind of like a bomb went off and it was like a wonderful concoction of ingredients. We were both satisfied by these that we saved the tacos for dinner. The guac is great as well, and they give you more than the tiny amount that Chipotle serves you. Would order again next time we're in town. read more

Amazing Mexican food in Newark, DE. I am from Philly so I'm gonna be a bit picky when it comes to Mexican food. I was a bit skeptical when my friends told me this was one of the best places to eat in town. Rest assure, it was pretty darn delicious. The restaurant was modestly laid out, comfort without pretense is the most accurate description for the joint. The service was friendly but it would help if you knew some Spanish as the workers spoke very little English. We ended up getting tacos: al pastor, campechano and con papa. The tacos were good although I believe most of the meat was a bit over done. The tacos could have been smaller. The big size meant their tortilla were larger and thicker and I like my tacos with less flour and more meat. The flavors were great, especially with the beef fat and the sweetness from the al pastor. For the main entrees, I had a whole fried fish and Mexican steaks. Again, the flavors were outrageously delicious but the steak was paper thin and can taste like cardboard if not devoured immediately. The fish tasted very fresh super crunchy, easily the best dish of the night. I got a tamale as well to try but unfortunately it wasn't too amazing. I wanted more meat fillings and the corn masa was a bit harder than what I expected. Great flavors, really bug portions, cheap prices and friendly service. However, the quality of meat needed improvement. A solid spot, just a tad shy from a 5 star, definitely recommended when you're in the area. read more

The chips and salsa at the beginning of the meal surpassed all expectations with their special twist on what's traditionally given in Mexican restaurants--they were topped with refried beans and grated cheese. The tortilla chips come with beans drizzled on top and three different types of sauces. You know it's the spot if the sauces are fire.
