I was so excited when I saw my taco salad (to go)! It was packaged well, it was filled to the top and it was in a cute little fried bowl. Got back to the office, got all set up to dig into my taco salad and then went from excited to disappointed. The taco shell was filled with chips, probably used them as a filler, that were now totally soggy. There was all kinds of "stuff" in it like beans, nacho cheese, tomatoes but not very much. There was barely any lettuce and I didn't see or taste any meat. The flavor was good but the was it was presented was terrible. This could totally be "user error" as I did not look at the menu, I just asked if they had taco salads and they said "Yes.....(ten minutes later)...That will be $9.90." read more

Great little spot, very unassuming but authentic! Recommend the Enchiladas and the agua de horchata! The guacamole also tasted very fresh! It would probably help if you know a litte bit of Spanish but it's not necessary. Will not miss if I am ever back in the area! read more

In the Wilmington area, restaurants seem to fall in one of two categories: expensive and fantastic, or cheap, good, and a great value. La Poblanita, your basic taqueria, falls in the latter category. The menu is long, but most of the people I have taken confine themselves to the cheap stuff near the end: $2 tacos, $6 burritos, tortas, tamales (only available on weekends), etc. The food is always fresh and quality. They have chivo (goat meat) and lengua (beef tongue), both of which are good. Tacos de chivo and tacos al pastor are particular favorites of mine, with a cold Negra Modelo. The setting is about what you'd expect: plastic table cloths, clean, but not extensively fixed up. The place stocks a pile of Mexican beers and Mexican sodas, including Mexican coke in glass bottles, at reasonable prices. They also make cocktails. The television is always running Spanish language TV and you may be the only gringo in the place. Although they take credit cards, I recommend taking some cash, as the credit card receipts don't have that little line for writing in a tip. read more

I love this place. As others mentioned I almost don't want to review La Poblanita for fear it will change. I've been there dozens of times. The go to order is tacos traditional with diced onions and cilantro. My favorites are carnitas and carne. They have incredible salsa and a creamy guac dipping sauce for the chips (which also come out hot). Bottom line is this place is money. Give it a try, just don't tell too many people. read more

Most of the food here is pretty decent. Nothing on the menu is terrible. Their horchata water is very nice !!! Deliciously sweet ! But not too sweet either . I highly recommend the Camarones a la Diabla... If you are looking for something spicy !! But as many shrimp dishes they count how many shrimps they give you. They mainly only give you like 11 of them. And the plate is around 12$ + a dollar a shrimp lol .......... read more

Being new to the area, we have been trying to find a place that makes good mexican food and especially pasole. Well, I can cross this off the list. We tried the food on friday evening. My wife's enchiladas (rice & beans) was one big muddled mess. The red salsa, which was supposed to be milder than the green sauce, was much to spicy for her. I had tacos - Steak, chicken, & chorizo. The steak was not seared, the corizo was gritty, the chicken was ok...all were extremely greasy. Today we went to give it a second chance and to try their pasole. The place was packed. I placed my order and went to pay. Somehow between Friday and today, they don't take my credit card. AMAZING! Both times the music was so loud that it was difficult to communicate even raising my voice. The food is not good enough to give it a third chance. Today you lost a customer. read more

I have selfishly hesitated reviewing this gem of a restaurant, only because it has limited seating and is already popular with many folks. A family-run operation that always shows their love in the cooking , service is always pleasant. Full license if you need margiritas and such. Tacos, tortas, and full entrees, with a lot of Vera Cruz influence. On Sundays, homemade tamales, caldo marsicos(off menu special) and a host of other delights. You might run into a bit a language barrier with some of the waitstaff if you have no spanish, but the owners will always come to your rescue if needed. Salsa verde is killer, and the menu has price points and variety for almost all types of taste and budget. This restaurant was written up in Gourmet, forget that, the dining room is usually packed with a variety of folks, and I have never heard a complaint from anyone I have ever brought here, it is one my favorite restaurants in Delaware . read more

I agree with the other reviews that this place appears to be authentic, but I was disappointed in the chicken and beef tacos. The soft taco shells (they use 2 per taco) were droopy (could tell they cooked them in oil and they were saturated) and flavorless. The meat was not much better and for $2.50 a taco you would definitely expect to get more. This is worth the trip, you will be hooked. Running a small restaurant is tough, so we have to keep the best ones in business. They have everything you want on the menu, at good to very good prices, though tamales, menudo, and a fantastic posole (shredded pork soup that you may find hard to finish there is so much), are limited to weekends- they do run out. I highly recommend the torta (sandwich), it is out of this world. I usually take half home. My mouth is watering just thinking of it. They provide red salsa and a guacamole salsa for your chips. Best Mexican food I've had in the Wilmington - Newark area. They serve two salsas, one red with big flavor and one green that is more subtle. The enchiladas were delicious and the herb green poblano sauce the right cover for chicken and cheese. The cheese was Mexican and added to the authenticity. Very, very authentic place. Everything is home-made. On the weekends, they usually have specials, such as tamales (only good when fresh), pozole (hominy chicken stew), caldo mariscos, and other items. Excellent selection of taco fillings, including goat and tongue. Highly recommended. read more
