Five stars for the gift shop. One more for the karaoke but they only allow for five. I don't camp, I'm a lot more of a princess when it comes to lodging, but this place is so darned inviting that I'd give it a try. No matter who you are you need to visit the gift shop. Very well curated, they know their clientele but someone they know you too, even if you aren't one of them. Do it. read more

Staying at El Cosmico was a fun adventure--a hybrid between cool hostel and trailer park. We actually went on a round trip through Texas and stayed at four of Liz's concept hotels. Since we were mostly staying at hotels, we certainly weren't prepared for the outdoors aspect that this boutique camp ground. We landed at El Cosmico on Thanksgiving Day. We planned for a sleepy evening in Marfa and brought our own semi-traditional holiday meal. I expected more supplies in the kitchen--but it is actually quite bare. Thankfully I McGuyvered my way through heating up tamales on the hot plate and opening a bottle of wine. There is currently a burn ban so don't count on grilling up any venison. I wish we had the following supplies during our stay: +Corkscrew +Pots & Pan +Wooden Spoon +Plates +Wine Glasses +Candles +Flashlight +Thick Towels I do think they ought to put a rug in the yurts and safari tents. It would really bring the place together. read more

I am not writing about the tent or tepee, but the trailers. Please do not use this review to judge the camping environment. We had really high expectations about El Cosmico, because we have stayed at the Hotel San Jose (Austin), which is owned by the same people. We stayed at the Vagabond trailer, ($150/night). Being minimalist campers and the background of El Cosmico, we knew not to expect too much. But as a traveler, we knew what to expect for $150 and it is not this little. You get an empty canister of coffee, two towels, no shampoo or soap. You can purchase shampoo and soap at the main desk. Really? A hotel so cheap that they can't offer a bar of soap in an old trailer with no AC? At least, the receptionist pointed out that the coffee container was empty (very nice of her), but she did not fill it up for us. Next morning, when I went to get some coffee from the reception, the morning receptionist looked annoyed and said there was coffee already prepared, and reluctantly agreed to give me some coffee grounds. I know what El Cosmico is doing in Marfa for the arts community and all that stuff, but this kind of a ripoff mentality is not acceptable. I recommend staying at El Paisano instead. It is a good hotel with a good restaurant and some history. read more

By far the best camp group I have stayed at anywhere!! I have done the teepee, the yurt, and brought my own tent before. I think the teepee is the way to go! There is a great outdoor kitchen so you can make your own food and save some money, but more importantly make friends. The hammock grove is the way to spend a lazy day!! read more

I felt all Bat for Lashes staying at El Cosmico, you guys. They have curated the place in such a unique way that it makes it almost desirable to want to toss the deodorant aside and rub patchouli all over... Georgia O'Keefe meets trailer park sort of deal. Hipster overkill? Somehow it wasn't. Kudos. I've stayed in their tepees and their Imperial Mansion. Loved both. The whole experience is sort of like glamping with a retro flare. If you are a damn diva scared of spiders and expecting bed-side service, stay away from El Cosmico. Actually, stay away from Marfa. Just don't. The staff was friendly and helpful. There's free coffee and wifi in the lobby. If you're a loner you'll love this place. If you are social you will ALSO love this place. You can pretty much tailor your experience at El Cosmico, making it as spiritual or adventurous as you'd like. NOTE: I can't imagine staying here during the summer, so be warned. Also, bring can/wine openers AND flashlights. CAUTION: Not many places to eat at Marfa. FACT: I saw the lights. read more

I've been following El Cosmico on Instagram for a long time and have always wanted to stay. I was finally able to visit this past week. We spent three nights in one of the teepees. El Cosmico did not disappoint! I loved it so much! Everything was fantastic! I loved staying in the teepee. El Cosmico as a whole was fantastic. The staff were all nice. They have they best gift boutique in all of Marfa. If I return to Marfa, I'll definitely be staying at El Cosmico again! read more

I stayed in a tent for two nights. Original reservation for three nights with the intention to make it four nights. I haven't stayed in such tents before (apart from camping I suppose) so didn't know what to expect -- how glamorous was this camping going to be? I was really excited to be staying here -- been wanting for five years! -- and dont think I'll be coming back. Pros: - The tent was awesome!!! Really well furnished. I came during the winter -- lows of 29 at night... and the heated blanket did wonders. I brought my own blanket too - Free coffee and tea in the morning! Yummy - Very peaceful and quiet; that's all of Marfa though. Beautiful stars at night Cons: My only complain is that the front desk service was somewhat rude and dismissive. This was enough was for me to airbnb a place in Marathon, TX for two nights instead of completing my stay. When I checked in, I had to ask: so how I get to the tent? what's out here? what if I have a question at night? what's happening in town/how do I find out? Usually, at hotels, they tell you all of this upfront and you're rolling your eyes because you know most of it. This is an unusual, glamping situation. I haven't stayed at places like this before so I need the information. The second night was extremely windy -- like the entire tent was shaking, including the metal structure. At first I didn't think of it much since I have camped frequently. When I noticed part of the tent that was tucked was slowly coming undone, I went to ask if this was something to worry about. I wanted to avoid the situation of staying awake through the night, in the cold. They front desk person was on the phone with someone with a similar concern. "If the electricity goes off, it's not our fault", she said to them. When I mentioned the untucked part of the tent, "well, I can't do anything about it. Call us if something happens." A bit of emotionally intelligent, empathetic response like "yeah, the winds are crazy and I'm sure the tent is shaking. Don't worry too much and if something happens, we will figure it out!" would've been nice. I checked out a day early not because the winds were too much but I didn't want to be at the service of someone whose response is "not my fault" ... "I can't do much". And not to my surprise, at check-out, there was no "how was your stay?" "Safe travels" "Hope you enjoyed El Cosmico". A simple, "you're checked out" ... "can I have my receipt?" "Ok, I'll email it". And I walked out of the door. read more

We absolutely loved glamping here! Our safari tent was cozy, the bathroom/shower setup was so nice, and Tori, the gal who checked us in around 10pm was super sweet. The coffee in the morning was delicious! And we loved that we got to bring our dog with us. We'd love to come back. read more

So I am not much of a camper, and last week I was in Marfa and wanted to try something new. (2014 is going to be a "year of all things new" for me!) Rolled up to El Cosmico around 3 PM on a Saturday after a long drive in to Marfa from Austin. Walked in to the main office (which was super cute and eclectic) to check availability and was told by the lady running the place that they only had tents available. Darn, I was so looking forward to trying out one of those awesome Teepees or Pinky the Trailer! Oh well, our fault for not being more prepared. So we decided to go with the tent which we were told had a queen sized bed and heated mattress pad. It was going to be 29 degrees that night, so I was kind of freaking out thinking I would freeze my booty off. The girl from El Cosmico walked us to the tent to check it out before we made our decision, and I decided just to do it! Like I said, never been camping, so needed to ease into this whole thing by "glamping" instead with a fancy bed inside a tent! We went about our evening popping around town to check things out, and headed back to El Cosmico around 10 PM. It was already starting to get super cold and I was getting a bit nervous. But honestly, it wasn't bad at all! The heated mattress pad definitely did its job, and I even found myself getting super hot. The campsite was very clean and actually pretty quiet given the fact they had 100% occupancy. Slept pretty soundly. Only CON was their bathroom situation. When I had to wake up and go in the middle of the night... I sprinted across the campsite to the only bathroom, praying I wasn't going to get frostbite along the way. Was pleasantly surprised to see they had a small little heater to try and keep this outdoor bathroom warm. Was definitely still cold though, and I couldn't wash my hands because the water felt like ice. The next morning I entertained the idea of taking a shower but couldn't bear it because taking an outdoor shower in 32 degrees sounded absolutely miserable. Would be nice if they built a more insulated bathroom that campers could use during the winter months. All in all - pretty good first "camping" experience though. I definitely recommend El Cosmico for anyone staying in Marfa and wanting to try something new! read more

El Cosmico - Campgrounds Near Me - Marfa, Texas

One of the best camping experiences EVER. My brother and I traveled to Marfa for a fun, relaxing, getaway weekend. We stayed at two other hotels in Marfa and this was, by far, our favorite! It's such a magical place. We stayed in The Kozy Coach trailer, which I definitely recommend. I'm not gonna lie, it was hot as hell during our stay in Marfa, but the trailers have A/C so it's not a problem. El Cosmico is eclectic, trendy, and really cute. The front office has a shop where you can buy cute little gems to bring home. They ask that you don't bring any outside alcohol in, as they sell it all in the office, but it's kinda expensive. While we were there, they had live music, which was awesome! We went out to dinner and then came back for a sweet surprise. The campgrounds are clean, the staff is helpful, and I'd really say that it's a magical place to experience. GO! read more

I had just finished backpacking for a few days in New Mexico, and stopped here for a night on my way back to Austin. I wasn't super stoked to be paying $40 for a tent, but all in all I do believe it was worth it. Being able to use their cooking facilities, hammocks, and free coffee in the morning really brought it together - because I didn't have to worry about packing all of my own stuff up. It's a lot easier to get a good head start in the morning when you don't have to break down your tent, etc! The location is not bad, either. Close to town without being in the middle of it. We saw a pretty outstanding meteor shower just by laying on the picnic tables in front of the cooking area. read more

*Rating the gift shop. Didn't stay here.* Cool stuff in the gift shop but every single thing is considerably overpriced. To the point where we were laughing at some prices. That said, I was willing to drop $50 on a poster BUT they wouldn't give me a tube to take it home in. At that price point I just wanted to protect it. The girl recommended ordering online to get the tube and poster delivered to my home in Ca... but who wants to order from home when I was right there in person, ready to spend $50 on a poster? You can't throw in a tube? I don't get it. Anyway, never ordered the poster because once you're back home from a honeymoon, $50 for a poster just isn't in your vacation budget anymore. I was over it. Place is kinda stuffy with a hint of pretentiousness. read more

This place is great! A friend and I both rented canvas tents for about $100/each. A reasonable price for a night of glamping - the tent has a bed, fan, lights, and outlet. Though those tents do get super hot once the sun starts coming up. The atmosphere was great - I loved walking the grounds, swinging in hammocks, and taking photos. They had a cute store with lots of items from local artists. Unfortunately most were out of my price range but it was a good place to grab a bottle of wine in the evening and tea in the morning. (Complimentary tea and coffee were available in the morning). I also enjoyed the outdoor, open air shower. The spaces were closed off and large enough to maneuver around and put bags, etc down while showering. Fortunately it was perfect weather for this too. read more

My wife and I have stayed at one of Bunkhouse's other hotels (St. Cecilia) in Austin. In fact we had our wedding reception there. They really know how to make a nice hotel. We had been talking about going out to Marfa for quite a while now. I had lived out there for 6 months back in '06. I hadn't been back since. Not much has changed. A few new restaurants and of course: El Cosmico. We stayed in the "Mansion" trailer, which is the only trailer listed as having a queen size bed. There were only 3 other tenets during our stay so it was real quiet around the grounds. This worked out in our favor since we had brought our 2 crazy dogs with us to terrorize anyone who happened to approach our trailer. While the puppies were real annoyed at all the sticker burrs that existed on the grounds, my wife and I found the place to be laid out real nice. Our trailer was the only trailer equipped with a heater/ac, but we didn't need to use it. During the day we kept all the windows open and at night we bundled up using the extra blankets that were supplied in our trailer. While it got down to the low 30's at nights we managed to stay pretty warm under all the blankets. There isn't much to do in Marfa, so we ended up hanging around the campground and just relaxing. Take a book, cause wi-fi doesn't reach out to the trailers. Honestly, if you are coming out here to stay connected you are out here for the wrong reasons. The staff was incredibly helpful. One night out there I managed to lock our key in the trailer around 10 at night, which was after office hours. After a quick phone call I was able to get back in with very little hassle. I would recommend El Cosmico to anyone who wants to venture out of their comfort zone a bit. It's well worth the money to be off the beaten path a little. read more

This is quite possibly the coolest campground / glampground to ever have existed in the history of forever. Teepees? Safari tents? Adorably retro trailers? Hammocks all over? Beautiful desert landscaping? Heck yes. You MUST stay here for at least one night of your life. We stayed in the vagabond and loved every minute of it. Huge space for a trailer! We spent 2 nights here and never had to turn on the A/C once thanks to the mild Marfa weather and plenty of open windows. We never turned the A/C on during AUGUST in TEXAS- please try to wrap your mind around this. We had our own toilet and indoor shower as well as an outdoor shower. USE THE OUTDOOR SHOWER- not that there's anything wrong with the indoor one, but dangggg the outdoor one makes you feel LIBERATED and one with the great outdoors. But for real reals- we stayed in the vagabond so that we could go glamping- not actual camping. Glamping is the only way to go and El Cosmico is the coolest place to glamp in the whole wide world. read more

I've been tryin to think of a better comparison than the one I saw a few months ago but I haven't been able to put it as eloquently or consummate: "Georgia O'Keefe meets trailer park." Love. The exact way I felt. Sort of dreamy, pastel-y, but with a little more cut-off jean shorts and body odor. The exact experience I was looking for when I went out to Marfa. If you're into: camping, cooking out, showering in showers that are private (sort of) but still outdoors, stargazing while sippin on pbr or lonestar, hiking and exploring some of Texas' best long drives in the middle of no where (IMHO). Look at the website if you wanna know specs, duh. My boyfriend, on the other hand, was less pleased with the amount of wanna be hippies (very different from hipsters). The speaker system in our safari tent won him over though. That was nice when we were getting back from hiking in Ft. Davis and wanted to chill out before hittin up Planet Marfa (again). Spend one day wondering around Marfa and doing all those cute/hipster/whatever-youre-on-vacation poses with all of the appropriate backdrops. Oh and go leap like youre daggum Beyonce in front of the Prada store (actually a longer drive than you think with nothing in between) (I still thought the laughs alone at the bf leaping in the air were worth it). Day two leave around sunrise (gorg drive) and head for Ft. Davis State Park (30 min). Hit up all the trails, have a little lunch then keep going into nowhere another 30ish minutes to Balmorhea Swimming Pool (45 min to 1 hr from Marfa). You will probably be heading back into Marfa around sunset (equally as gorg). read more

My wife and I headed to Marfa recently to watch a movie and meet up with some friends. We have a small vintage trailer that we like to camp in and this trip seemed like a perfect opportunity to use it. Upon arrival in Marfa we checked El Cosmico's availability and were pleasantly surprised that they could accommodate. Do note that our trailer is only 13 feet long and requires a standard electrical outlet. 40 foot land yachts requiring water hookups and waste are better off at the Apache Pines park up the road. I'll admit we were a tad hesitant that El Cosmico may be hipster overkill. Coming from Austin I'm well aware of the ironic d-factor that can quickly overcome unique properties like this. Fortunately though, everyone that we met were laid back and friendly. The women at the front desk were very helpful and gave us the run down of the property, area and facilities. The facilities at El Cosmico are awesome. From the outdoor kitchen equipped with hotplates and fridge, to the outdoor solar showers that were especially refreshing in 105 degree heat, everything had the right balance of rustic style and function. The nights, along with being some of the most star filled I've ever seen, were cool and quiet. We absolutely loved El Cosmico and look forward to staying here again. read more

Just the relaxing retreat I was looking for. We arrived late on Friday night to find a peaceful camping area and many friendly people. We pitched a tent, but I've heard the trailers are pretty cool too. It's located close to everything - less than a 10 minute walk downtown - and is the most peaceful place I can imagine with hammocks, outdoor showers and a cool outdoor kitchen that's open to everyone. Next time I'm in Marfa, I'll be headed back to El Cosmico. PS word of caution...if you arrive when it's dark, be sure to have a flashlight with you to find your camping site. read more

I'm not a camper. Glamper yes, camper no. This makes El Cosmico perfect for me. It is also perfect for campers too. You see, they have accommodations ranging from pitch your own tent sites to tents to yurts to trailers. We opted for a trailer with an indoor toilet but an outdoor shower. Showering outside is the best, dontcha think? I do! The hubby loved the El Cosmico shampoo bar and apple cider vinegar conditioner. We stayed in the Princess which is on the back side of the property and felt fairly secluded. It is absolute perfection. From the hot pink counters to the amazing robes and linens. The trailer is equipped with AC and fans so we stayed nice and cool all day and night. There was a large deck with table and chairs for hanging out. One of my favorite features of the property was the hammock area. Solent a luxuriously lazy afternoon swinging and reading a book while throwing back a few Shiners. If you are looking for a truly unique lodging experience I can't recommend El Cosmico enough. If you want the true experience of the area come and stay for a weekend. We were there Sunday-Tuesday and missed out on some of the true El Cosmico fun. read more

So for a getaway weekend with my gentleman friend, this place tops the list because I felt like I walked into the movie Moonlight Kingdom (geographical incongruity between Rhode Island and West Texas aside). After a few nights in an Airstream in Terlingua, we followed up with a night at El Cosmico in the Branstrator trailer on our way back to Austin. There were several trailers to choose from upon our arrival, but I chose the Branstrator for the outdoor clawfoot tub, despite chilly nighttime temperatures. Why five stars? Here's what made it awesome: 1.) Feeling like I was in Moonlight Kingdom 2.) The enticing smell of Palo Santo incense in the lobby upon arrival 3.) The seventies Sunset magazine (or is it Playboy?) decor in the trailers and the lobby 4.) Wifi only in the lobby (YES PLEASE!) 5.) Our trailer being equipped with a rad bluetooth-enabled stereo that we easily synced with our ipad and phones 6.) New Mexico's Gruet sparkling wine sold in the lobby (my favorite!) 7.) Watching the clouds roll by in the bathtub while my man played guitar on the deck 8.) Amazingly comfy bed and down comforter 9.) Bathrobes!!! Absolutely stay here. :) read more

I stayed at El Cosmico back in February during a cross-country road trip. My friend and I were originally going to stay in a Yurt, but after reading some reviews here I chickened out and we opted for the Teepee. I guess the yurts rattle a lot during windy nights, and it definitely was breezy. Anyway, my friend and I had spent the day blowing through New Mexico and entered Texas about 40 miles west of where we were supposed to be. After back tracking, we arrived at El Cosmico around 10 PM. They have wagons you could take to The staff had been accommodating and left our paperwork in the Teepee- which, by the way, was massive. The thing was like 15 feet tall! It had room for 2 twin beds and a full/queen, with room to spare for cartwheels/breakdancing. There was an American flag hanging behind the larger bed and plenty of blankets. The tent was set up for electricity and each bed had some surge protectors near it. I think there were also multiple alarm clocks? The only downside to the actual teepee was the door flap wasn't secured on the side so we woke up to a wide open tent. Oops. The full bed had a really fluffy down comforter, but I slept in a twin with a sort of scratchy quilt. There were sheets and a blanket underneath, though, so I didn't feel it. While there was an electric blanket, it was COLD out that night. Nothing too insane, but 38 doesn't feel too good when one side of your body is nice and toasty. I felt like a hot dog at a 711, rolling around all night so I could stay warm. If I have any suggestions for El Cosmico, it would be to screw the Americana design and hook every bed up with a comforter, at least during the winter months. There was some wind which rattled the tent a bit, but it was actually kind of comforting. If you're a light sleeper (I'm not, but it takes me a while to get to sleep), you're right next to a border patrol station, so you'll hear some dogs barking and get scared because you think they're wild dogs (psh, no, that didn't happen to me). You'll also get to hear a random train rolling through at about 3AM and be woken up at 8:30 by another train. Once I was asleep, though, I was comfortable (save for train 1). The outdoor shower was more refreshing than I thought and the toilet area is blocked off enough so I didn't worry about any creeper peepers. There's hot water, too! The lounge area looked really fun but we had to hit the road right after, wish I could have stayed there a tad longer. This was the one thing I wasn't looking forward to on the trip, and it's something I remember the fondest. read more

Took a detour off the Interstate east to visit Marfa, and lemme say, it is well worth it! A wonderful fusion of dusty West Texas town and young Texas funk perfectly embodied by the El Cosmico. The campground offers tent sites (and a utulity cart to move your stuff from the parking lot to your tent), tipis, safari tents (big canvas tents with solid floors, a queen bed, chairs), and airstream-type trailers. Communal bathrooms, communal kitchen area, hammocks, a small stage and picnic area, wood-fired hot tub...And it's very dog-friendly! Very good coffee in the morning, too, along with free wifi and plenty of hospitality. The gift shop is totally worth a browse, and they sell camping sundries as well as beer and wine. I was initially just going to throw down my tent but decided last-minute to rent a safari tent. I'm glad I did--that bad boy comes with a heap of blankets, clean towelsfor the shower, a down comforter, and a HEATED mattress pad! Best I've slept in a long time. I am in lovewith this place, and can totally see staying longer next time in order to explore the area, or even just relax. read more

El Cosmico is a dream! Thank you, Yelp, for this choice find. The kitschy, Austin vibe was delightful, not as tacky as it is in Austin, oftentimes. There are several 50's trailers for nightly rental, dim path lights to help find your way around, and a hip-looking front house with free WiFi (they sell ice and other practical stuff, too). I couldn't believe this place got such a high rating here on Yelp, but the 4-5 stars are worth it. I was able to make a tent camping reservation over the phone with a very friendly woman. What really put this place over the top for me was the rubber-wheeled handcarts available for no extra charge to bring your gear from car to camping site--big score. The hot water in the showers next morning helped, too. You can easily keep to yourself here, if that's your thing. As a mingler, however, I chatted with a few of the other campers around the site, all of which were friendly, thankfully, because I wouldn't have had dinner if someone hadn't lent me a can opener. El Cosmico is recommended, especially for those who are new to camping, aren't Bear Grylls, or just want a delightful night under the stars. read more

This place is the bees' knees! After staying one night at the overpriced and stark Thunderbird Hotel, we stayed at El Cosmico in the safari tent (same as the yurt, just a different shape.) Atmosphere is calm, breezy, and easy. We had fun just walking around and laying down in the hammocks, photographing the funky trailers, and people-watching. You can either keep to yourself or easily socialize here. The communal kitchen was super-cool at night, all warmly lit up. We went in late July and night time was quiet; we were the only ones exploring. Bathrooms are so clean and the solar-heated shower was EXCELLENT--I went early in the morning and the water pressure and temperature were perfect. People respect your privacy here (although if someone were standing right at the wooden door that you close to take a shower, they'd be able to see all your lady parts--thankfully we didn't encounter any pervs. I don't think it's a problem unless you're not the campy type and you balk at open-air showers/bathrooms. ) Night sky was gorgeous; even though there are lights from the houses in the adjoining field, it is not bothersome in the least. OKAY -- my favorite part was the yurt/safari tent! SO spacious, clean, and comfortable as hell. Slept so good here and was able to hear all the night sounds. Like camping, but in luxury. Was surprised to find electrical outlet hooked up to the yurt (cool! we got to charge our batteries.) and the coolest light--just perfect -- it looked like an aluminum container / can of some sort and had these little intricate designs carved out of it for some trippy mood-lighting. LOVED this place and will come back again. Would also like to try out the tent sites (1/3 the cost of the super-comfy, totally-worthy yurt.) One thousand times more satisfying than Thunderbird! read more

My personal discovery of "glamping". It's wonderful! While my fiance is accustomed to the finer things I find myself most happy with a tent, sleeping bag and stars. We had a very wonderful, relaxing stay in Marfa last week, largely due to the awesomeness of El Cosmico. We stayed one night in the teepee, two nights in the "Imperial Mansion" and one more in the "Vagabond". Some of my favorite things about El Cosmico include the shady hammock cluster, the free Big Bend Coffee in the trailers, the shared outdoor kitchen and of course the aesthetics of the trailers and other structures. A pool would have been refreshing in the hot afternoons but the outdoor showers were nice. Would love to stay here again someday! read more

My family and I walked into El Cosmico to buy some souvenirs during our recent trip to Marfa. We were the only ones in the shop at the time. The staff was rude and unfriendly, unlike the rest of the people in Marfa. The people at The Get Go, Ashley Rowe and Do Your Thing were so kind. The stuff sold in the El Cosmico is not cheap, but the customer service sure is. read more

Well, glad we did it for the experience but we would likely stay elsewhere if we visited Marfa again. We stayed in one of the yurts and for nearly $700 for 4 nights, it simply was a bad deal. As other reviews state, the site is right off a rather busy road and a rather trashy trailer park. Be sure you are comfortable with minimal privacy when it comes to showering or using the bathroom. Avoid purchasing anything on site because the markup is even higher here than it is in Marfa. The yurt flooded regularly because it wasn't built properly and the lock was something of a tedious joke. Fun for kids that think they're going for some sort of awakening while maintaining a sardonic and narcissistic attitude I suppose. Best part are the lighted paths, an incredibly comfortable mattress and the stars overhead, so maybe just take it upon yourself to go camping for a fraction of the cost. read more

Stayed in a yurt (in October, if you're thinking about weather) and couldn't have been happier. Yes, it was freezing at night but yes, there were stacks of awesome heavy wool blankets - and a heated bed. Towels provided and pretty (!) bathroom facilities steps away. The indian tin lantern (yes, there's electricity) used to light my yurt made it look gorgeous from the outside at night - like a pale golden christmas ornament perched in the desert. The staffer who checked me in was very nice, gave me a full tour, and helped me find a good place for a late night bite (Padre's -- good veg bar food, full bar and an unexpected - but good - singer-songwriter performance. I guess P's is the local music venue, and I totally enjoyed sitting under the dim chandeliers and chatting up traveling oil company dudes.). Great lobby/office/hangout building with good wifi when I needed to get some work done, and the hammock grove was total icing on the cake. And let's not forget that it's by FAR the cheapest option in Marfa. $60/night for the yurts, compared to $150 minimum at El Paisano, close to that at Thunderbird, and $90ish at Stay Marfa (which did look super cute if sleeping close to the earth ain't your bag). The trailers at El Cosmico are up there with the pricey options, but you could put a whole family in one of those things. read more

I think this place is magic even if my buddies tease me for "glamping." I know it's a bed, hardwood floor-ish floors and electricity, but you're still in a tent outside, without a lock and if you need to pee, you gotta do it outside or a walk quite a bit to use the not very private facilities. All this said, it's still one of my favorite places on earth. A must stay, but book weeks in advance because during peak season, there are no rooms in this outdoor in. read more

I've stayed at El Cosmico twice now. The first time in a tee pee (back when they only had the one), and the second time we brought our own tent (for the Trans-Pecos Festival). The teepee arrangement has changed since, I believe. At the time there was a king sized bed with bed heater, outlets, and some rustic furniture. The heater was unexpected, but extremely appreciated once we realized how cold it can get at night in the desert. Both times have been great, no issues. Love the atmosphere and the employees are helpful. read more

So first I'd like to say, I enjoyed the campground it had a great style and was very close to town to explore a bit. However got charged for something from the mini bar which I never used. But after calling and questioning the charge they did refund me the money. Great place just make sure you monitor your account so you don't get charged for something you didn't take. read more

Clean, comfortable, and hip. Obviously not as comfortable as a 5 star hotel room, but I dont regret staying here. Its not often your room is one of the most notable expiriences on your trip. It was definitly an adventure. I do wish I had brought a sleeping mask because the light comes in pretty bright early in the morning. No need to bring towels, pillows or blankets if your staying in the RV. The ones provided are great. Wear boots or old shoes, dont bring your brand new sneakers, they'll get trashed in the dirt and desert landscape of marfa. Note there is a train the passes around 6am. That was a fun surprise and we went right back to sleep. Also, no fridge in the rv, so not much use for the kitchen, but you dont need it. The restaurants in Marfa are fantastic. We checked out Marfa Burrito (across the street) and cochineal, both had wondeful food. Dont miss out on the opportunity to shower outdoors. I completly agree with the other reviews that the shower is its own experience. The water temperature was perfect and we had no problems. I didnt feel a need to wear flip flops, it seems perfectly clean and the RV gets its own private shower, which is a cool perk. We went for one of the shows they have. We saw the Allah-Las and it was amazing! Its like attending a private concert with a group of about 75 fans. We also got to hang out with the band after the concert. Its totally worth the drive instead of seeing your favorite band at the local big city venue. The gift shop was pricey but had things you dont find anywhere else and is worth splurging on. Two thumbs up! read more

El Cosmico is an experience! The drive here was one long series of pictorial landscapes of plains and mesas which ultimately led through small towns and into this little oasis. Its earthly quiet. I really noticed just how quiet it was because id hear the cars drive down the road. Or the cows moo complaining about going back inside. At night the sky is breathtaking. Looking up at the stars out there is one of my most treasured memories. I will be back to visit, heres a couple tips; flashlights are super important, beware the giant ants! and check the weather. Even though you are "glamping" you are still susceptible to the elements either coming into your tent or banging the side of it. They have an outdoor kitchen equipped with fire pits, hot plate stove top and fridge, located in the communal area across from the main reception area. They sell booze on premise however its be a good idea to stock up prior. read more

If you are going to Marfa, this is the place to stay (and this is coming from someone that literally lives in a Hilton). It's an awesome experience that fits in with the vibe of the town. I was lucky enough to score a teepee for my visit and even though it stormed the first night I didn't get went inside at all, the teepees are huge inside and the campsite itself is completely relaxing and a great vibe. That being said keep in mind you are in a teepee/yurt/trailer and it is shared outdoor bathroom facilities but the staff and set up are amazing. read more

TeePee livin' -- glorious and well-thought out design. The interior was modern Americana, and the detail of the furniture was beautiful. The community bathroom was clean, and the outdoor showers made me feel a part of the desert. The staff was friendly and helpful. When I make it back to Marfa, I'll have to check out the trailers. read more

The one night I stayed at El Cosmico is the number one highlight of my last cross-country trip this summer. I read about this place several times in the last couple years, and was reminded about it when visiting friends in Austin. I got the Cozy Coach, and loved it. I've always wanted an Airstream, and now it's a MUST for me. I'd love to stay here a week just to disconnect. It's worth the travel to get there. read more
