This place is a lot more than an RV park! I've tent camped here for two years in a row, and it is an incredibly secluded and quiet place to camp. The tent sites are accessible by car, but you'll feel as if you have left society if you get to hear the coyotes howl at night. There is WiFi at the store, plus laundry and showers. The staff has always been very nice. Plus there is even a history museum of a local female rancher. Great place to stay on your way to Big Bend NP or even a few days to take in the desert.

Me and my girlfriend made a last minute decision to go to big bend and found this place recommended on the website. It was a life saver and not a bad drive outside the park. The people there were so nice. We had just bought an air mattress that self inflates and we forgot D batteries. We had nothing but a few blankets and knew it would be a rough sleep. The owner of the ranch came back with batteries he took out of flash lights in his truck and gave them to us for no cost at all. Really genuine people and was a great place to set up camp. The store had most necessities (besides D batteries lol) and beer! Would highly recommend, many sites have electric and water as well.

The earth doesn't stop for no one" but yet another family arrived 5 minutes after us and another 20 minutes after the start time and they were a different ethnicity and got greeted with a handshake and a warm welcome. Very telling of what his values were. My family got picked on as well. No one was fixing the telescope the way he said to but yet when my family went he made my fiancé go back to fix it themselves yet helped everyone else and had nothing to say. I wouldn't recommend giving this guy your time or money but that was our unfortunate experience and NEVER going back.

Our host William spent an hour on one target, the Orion Nebula if i remember correctly. He kept interjecting with semantics regarding vocabulary which added nothing to the star party. He showed us ONE constellation, Orion (shocker). Then after an hour had passed a party of six showed up late and proceeded to waste the rest of the attendee's time bringing them back up to speed by showing them all the same Orion Nebula. It being 11:30pm (star party started at 10:00pm) I decided to leave and enjoy the beautiful night sky alone. I did not think one could manage to remove the awe inspiring nature and curiosity from astronomy but William managed to do so. Like I said, please book at the Mcdonald Observatory, it costs more but you get a complete and more fulfilling experience as a newcomer to astronomy. They provide a tour of most if not all of constellations visible in the night sky, multiple targets from better telescopes and teach you the steps required to view through the telescopes. All the hosts from Mcdonald Observatory work for UT Austin so they are also very knowledgeable. And its only 25 dollars as opposed to 10 dollars at this place.

The sites here are ok, on the smaller side and close together. Mostly level but prepare to check. It is kept very clean and tidy. There is a great walking path around the park as well as a dog area, lots of games and a kid zone. There is also tons of artwork around the park that are great to look at. There is 1 bathroom & shower for men and 1 for women. You can hear the traffic on i10 but that's ok as it dies down in the evening. In fact the only thing I heard at night was the giant American flag waving in the wind above us. The staff is great and of those that looked like full timers or seasonal customers they were all nice and kept their areas clean. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it. Priced better than others in the area also.

Crystalline water, a natural oasis. Wilderness as a touch of elegance. The water is cool, refreshing, and large enough you can swim without bumping into a flotilla of inflatable flamingos every ten seconds. It is serene. Now, the true pièce de résistance: tiny fish. Yes darling, little cousins of piranhas nibbling delicately at your skin. At first, it's mildly horrifying. Being lightly snacked upon by aquatic creatures isn't typically on the itinerary. It's nature's exfoliation service. Truly. These miniature aestheticians gather around and provide the most delightful, ticklish skin treatment imaginable. Think of it as a rustic version of spa fish pedicures, except this one is completely natural, wildly entertaining, and performed by creatures that actually live in the ecosystem instead of a questionable salon tank. The entire place has this fascinating ecological charm that sneaks up on you. You're floating in a massive spring-fed pool, mountains in the distance, dragonflies skimming the water, and tiny fish politely tend to your skincare needs. The magic of Balmorhea (I'll let you figure out how to pronounce it correctly) is that it's a living ecosystem, and being able to swim in the middle of it is special. It's frontier chic. Don't expect marble spas and cucumber water. Following an afternoon, my skin felt absurdly smooth, stress level plummeted, and it was imperative to recommend the remote desert destination without qualification. Five stars for the fish running the spa.

There are cabins on the ground, picnic tables, barbecue pits. I saw a basketball court. They had a few nature areas to enjoy. I was certainly pleased with just getting my feet wet, but the water is clear and if you were interested in seeing more below the water, I recommend goggles or snorkeling gear. I hear companies teach scuba here too. There's not much else near the park, so bring all the amenities you need or want there. Good times with nature. We will return.

Outstanding RV Stay in West Texas - Maverick Ranch RV Park, Lajitas…read more Texans are known for their hospitality, and the staff at The Maverick Ranch RV Park in Lajitas, TX absolutely lived up to that reputation. Friendly, polite, and helpful, they made check-in and check-out quick and informative--handing out maps with local highlights and always being available if needed. The park itself is well-equipped: * Full hookups * Spacious, pull-through RV sites * Clean bathrooms with showers * Laundry facilities * Heated pool * Paved roads and level pads for easy setup The bathrooms were consistently clean and always available--huge plus. The lodge is a real highlight. Think "Texas-sized" with multiple leather couches, a poker table, dining space, and a full kitchen. It connects to a large laundry room with plenty of machines and seating--making laundry day feel like less of a chore. Connectivity was surprisingly solid given the remote location near the Mexico border. While our hotspot struggled to get even two bars, the park's Wi-Fi came through just fine. A few tips for travelers: * There's no ice machine or propane refill on-site, but the nearby market carries both. * STOCK UP in Alpine before heading down--gas, propane, drinks, and food are all pricier here. * Most RV sites include picnic tables and fire pits. Bring your own firewood unless you want to pay $10.99 per bundle. * There's no shade, so make sure your AC and awning are ready to go to war with the sun. Exploring the area: * Lajitas is about 20 miles from Big Bend National Park--the main reason most people come. * Don't miss Terlingua Ghost Town (~15 miles away) for a fun local vibe. The Boathouse offers cheap beer, live music, and friendly locals. Nearby, High Sierra Bar & Grill has great food and seriously good chili. * For stunning scenery, drive the 50-mile stretch to Presidio--incredible views and the cheapest gas in the region. Nighttime Pro Tips: It gets pitch black out here. The park has well-marked, smooth roads with reflectors, but bring a soft flashlight and use low beams when arriving after dark. They have a no-outdoor-light policy after 9 PM--great for stargazing, so respect it and enjoy the night sky. Final Thoughts: The Maverick Ranch RV Park delivers excellent value, especially given its remote location. Yes, prices are a bit higher due to that, but the amenities, atmosphere, and proximity to Big Bend make it more than worth it. After a long day hiking or exploring, a refreshing dip in the pool is the cherry on top.
