We stopped by here to try Seed to Surf's tinned Enoki Mushroom "Snow Crab" style. I really liked…read morethe strong umami flavor and I enjoyed the texture too. It was really interesting and fun to try. The plate we got it with looked pretty good, but the bread was stale and the homemade pickles were not very well pickled- Tasted like they were put in vinegar that same day. We mentioned to the staff that our bread was stale to see if we could get a fresher one but they said it's because it supposed to be like a crouton/ toast. We have had many croutons and toasts in our lives ofcourse that didn't feel and taste like stale bread but we just took it as a funny part of our Marfa stop experience. Not a place I'd come back to consider the quality for the price but definitely a memorable end to our short stop in Marfa. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! An Evie favorite!

This place is a real treat! We sat at the bar and ordered some of their delicious plates…read more We got the eggplant and potato croquettes, which were fried to perfection. We also got the tasty smoked salmon tinned fish plate, which came with pickled carrots and radishes, castelvantrano olives, and crackers. It paired nicely with their funky orange wine. The owner/server was friendly, and nice to chat about their Texas wine. I ended up buying two bottles, my favorite being their rose. This is a place the locals go to hang out, and you get a real vibe for Marfa's small and close-knit community. It was fun to be there and be part of the action.

Stayed at Hotel Saint George in Marfa and overall had a decent experience, but with a few quirks…read moreworth noting. First, the positives. The linens and bedding were so good--super comfortable and cozy (Hi, Marfa brand I think?). Honestly, I wanted to take them home with me... if anyone knows where to buy them online, let me know. The Aesop bath products were also a big plus, though they accidentally had the hand soap in the shower and the body wash at the sink--and since they're locked in, there's no swapping them. Minor detail, but a little funny. Rooms themselves are large, open, and feel spacious, which I appreciated. Now for the downsides. The biggest issue was noise. You can hear pretty much everything--people walking above, talking next door, doors constantly slamming. Not ideal if you're hoping for a quiet, restful stay. The lighting in the room was also a bit lacking--definitely could've used an extra lamp or two to warm things up. The overall design is nice but starting to feel a little dated... kind of like a W Hotel refresh from around 2015 that hasn't been touched since. And the bathroom sink... I don't know what's going on there, but without any kind of filter on the spout, the water splashes everywhere. I somehow ended up with a wet shirt and pants just from washing my hands. A couple other things to note: the restaurant and bar seem to close early (around 9:30), and when we were heading out at 10, nothing was open--so not sure if they offer breakfast or coffee in the morning. If not, that feels like a missed opportunity. All that said, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and for a small town like Marfa with limited options, it's still a solid choice. Would I stay again? Probably. Would I call it luxury? Meh.

All I expect is " hi what would you like?" All I did was sit down. It was as if I had some disease or something. No smile. No warmth. I'll perk up here in a bit. Like it was a real hassle to order a beer ? But the hotel is good. I'm staying up at Paisano this time. But wanted to swim here.

Jett is a character in the movie Giant, which was filmed in the Marfa area, and the stars stayed at…read morethe Hotel Paisano where the restaurant is located. If you have never heard of the movie, that is a lot of their problem. The hotel and restaurant are resting on their laurels from a movie from the 1950s. If you took a date to see Giant when it first came out, you probably need food you can gum. We were here two years ago and had a good experience so we came back and were sorely disappointed. Service was appallingly slow because there was one waitress (who was great) for the entire restaurant and patio. There was one bartender. Very short-staffed. We had drinks and chips and salsa on the patio before moving inside for dinner. Entrees on the menu were chicken and veggie burgers (no beef?) and chicken was out. The other entrees were the pistachio-crusted steak (basically fancy chicken fried steak) and a ribeye. They were out of the pistachio-crusted steak. So, it was a veggie burger or a ribeye. No chicken dishes, no fish, no pasta. A frozen veggie burger or a $45 ribeye. We started with a a charcuterie board which was tasty but not very generous. The ribeyes were served on mashed potatoes and very good, but there was no vegetable, no bread - just steak and potatoes. I don't mind the price of the steak but part of that price is service and if there is one server for an entire restaurant and the patio, the service is not going to be that good, and it wasn't. Drinks were not refilled, dessert wasn't offered (they might have been out!), so it was eat and run. So, staffing issues, inventory management issues and a restaurant that had a number of customers to serve so they should do better. Much better.

Paired with the historic Hotel Paisano, Jett's doesn't quite rise to the occasion. Striving for the…read morerefined rustic setting of the hotel, the restaurant's ambience feels more dated than decorative. The staff is friendly, but twice during our dinner the host interrupted our group's conversation with incidental small talk. The host also took photos of our table for the "night manager to see how busy we are". The host did this without asking for permission. Our server was more engaged than intrusive, friendly and helpful. The kitchen and bar were on the slow side, and unfortunately the food/drinks were not exceptional enough to offset the delays. Though remote, Marfa has an eclectic food scene, and there's better options that Jett's.

The hotel staff is wonderful BUT the owner needs to do better…read more This is a very unique and serene place. But you have to understand what you are getting into when you stay here. They do have a small menu for breakfast. But lunch and dinner is a meal the chef chooses and that is all there is. You will be sitting at a group table with other guests. We never had the lunch so I can't speak on that. The dinners we did. Now the dinner were good BUT after the cost, service fee and tip that automatically get charged, each dinner for each person is $95, both nights the severed a stater soup, main plate and a dessert. $95 seemed high to me. I strongly recommend bring your own snack and a small ice chest. There are no refrigerators in the room. I think the owners suite does have a refrigerator but that is over 2k a night and is the owners suite when he wants to be there. So he makes sure he has comforts. There are NO TVs in any room. There is a media room that has a TV and then again the owners suite has a TV. Again the owner has these small comforts. There was not enough hot water for a whole shower. We booked an ATV tour which on the website they say they have side by side and single rider ATV for this tour. I personally didn't want to drive an ATV I wanted my husband to drive and their site said they had a side by side. Well they do have a side by side but they said no to taking it out for the ATV tour. We also booked the mountain tour, which is in there open air Humvee. BUT their hunters vehicles down so the hunting group got the mountain tour Humvee and we were stuck in the side by side for our mountain tour. We had the driver, us and another couple, so 5 people. The side by side had no business and was uncomfortable having 5 people in this side by side for the tour. But then going down the mountains in the side by side the brakes went out and we had to wait for a ride back. Now the Marfa sky's are amazing and Cibolo has a big telescope but apparently has not work for many many months. I feel the owner needs to pony up some funds, make sure the vehicles are in working order. Have a side by side that can be used for ATV tours like there website states. Fix the telescope. Make sure what ever the hot water problem was is fixed. But some small refrigerators in the rooms at the least. But overall the property was amazing and we will stay at again but the owner needs to do better.

Cibolo Creek Ranch is neither a hotel nor a resort. This is…read morea B&B where all the bad news is hidden until you arrive. We made reservations for one night - to check it out for a subsequent week stay with 4 adults. We went to Paws Up and Orvis Lodges in the past - thus our expectations. Cibolo send a text asking our arrival time - which was 5:30 to 6:30 as we were driving from Tucson. We called around 5 and said arrival would be around 7:00. The response was "OK then, we will cancel your dinner." First hidden clue - no food after 6:30 PM. So - with NO DINNER, we stopped at the St. George in Marfa - and had a dinner and texted and said we would be there around 9:00. The return text said the front desk closes at 6:00 PM. Second clue this is a B&B. When we arrived, finally, there are no lights anywhere. We could barely find the turn off - then up a dirt road for several miles in total blackness. Then the outline of a building - again no lights, not signage, nothing. We walked to what appeared to be a front door and found someone who said "welcome." They took our luggage to our room. In the room, a notice that everything has a 15% service fee - just because. More hidden info. Third clue. In the morning, we skipped the shower and left as fast as we could. But the pain was not over. We had to lug our heavy wheeled bags through a long parking lot - gravel - like pulling your luggage on a beach. Nobody to help. As we were loading the car, an employee, in almost total darkness, drove past the rear of our car so fast she almost hit us. Fourth clue. This place is NOT a resort. It is NOT a hotel. This is a B&B and a crappy one at that. If you want resort outdoor experiences, check out Paws Up or Orvis Lodges in Montana. And they have no hidden messages.
