This is old fashioned boricua home cooking. It's the same stuff most of us grew up eating in Miami or New York so big points for staying traditional. The pernil was delicious and was served with big pieces of the incredible chicharrones. Mofongo was a bit dry as mofongo tends to be which is why it is usually served with a broth or in this case, a big ass pile of pernil. So the pork skin n the pork made the mofongo moist and incredibly flavorful. Arroz con gandules were just perfect. It is so common back home that you dont think of it as special, but when you've been in TX for yrs and never see it on menus you realize how special it really is and this truck did not let me down. I would have preferred the tostones to be more flat, lil thick for me at this spot. Of course I still murdered em cuz they're close enough and the mojo was bomb. The best part for me though was the pastelillo (beef). I haven't had one PR style in a while and they NAILED IT. The seasoning in the beef, the thin crispy flaky fried crust, and the pique they serve with it was outstanding I put a lil dab of that pique on every item on my plate as well. The woman who gave it to me was adorable, she goes "It's very good pero it's hot so be nice." Only thing that was kind of a pain in the ass was CASH ONLY. No venmo or cash app? To be fair I have plenty of Puerto Ricans in my own family that avoid transaction fees and/or taxes when possible lol. I get it. read more

Pretty damn good Puerto Rican food. I was born and raised in PR and just moved to Austin from South Florida, so I was looking for a good Puerto Rican food spot and this met that need. The mofongo was good (Could've used some caldo on the side, but it was pretty moist so it didnt NEED it) and the chicharrones de pollo were great. Alcapurria was also great. Really liked the carne frita, but prefered the chicken. Didn't love the pastelillo, but it wasn't bad by any means. The pernil was so dang juicy, the mofongo was perfect and not too oily, and the chicharrones de pollo were crispy and delicious. And to add to that, the owners were super pleasant to talk to. She mentioned that their food truck was rated top 5 in the Austin Chronicle at some point, and I find that easy to believe. I am of a Puerto Rican descent and I know what good Puerto Rican food taste like and don't get me wrong it was good but I had the chuleta plate and I wasn't a fan at all of my Porkchop being fried at all and it had way to much garlic sauce that was just way too much garlic and way too much seasoning like over excessive seasoning. Went here with the family today for lunch. Had the pernil, the carne frita and the Cuban sandwich. Everything was great, if a little salty. We all took turns at the sandwich, and my wife and I agreed it was the best we'd ever had; my 7 year old stepson loved it.
