This is a great place to get some hot savory soup, delicious nachos and agua frescas like Jamaica. If you are a vegetarian and don't mind if your soup touched beef, you can get an all veggie soup that is very yummy. The nachos I have to take special note. They taste different from other nachos I have tried. They are lighter and maybe a tad sweeter? But they are delicious with a good crunch. The gentleman who helped me on the phone and in person was very nice and he is fluent in both English and Spanish. I checked the yelp page and saw they had some pretty good reviews, and this place does live up to the 5 star reviews that people leave. I got a beef burrito, which was kind of massive, but I saved it for lunch the next day. Great value for the amount of food you get in each serving. I speak Spanish, but if you don't, you might want to use a translate app to see the menu. Also got horchata and cantaloupe aguas frescas which were super good. Sometimes restaurants use the horchata powder mix to make their drinks, but this one tasted like it was made fresh. One thing though; the seating isn't ideal for pandemic times. Fantastic mexican hole in the wall joint. I ordered the Carnitas Burrito to go, and they gave me a bag of tortilla chips with salsa too. The man, who I reckon is the owner, is very nice. I asked him if I could park in the lot right front of his restaurant for a few minutes because I am visiting a friend who lives nearby, and he let me. And also warned me not to be gone too long to avoid getting towed. The burrito was warm and good, and the tortilla skin was freshly made, and I loved it. My hispanic friend also approved of it, saying that usually people mess up the skin part, but El Comal nailed it on the head. The burrito was big, and I ate it in two sittings, two hours apart. Well, that was a good meal. I knocked out one star just because last star is always reserved for my cravings. I've lived down the block from this place for years and just tried it for the first time last night. Turns out, I wasn't missing out on anything. Based on the reviews, I was excited, but my experience was extremely disappointing. We picked up 2 burrito especials with carne asada right before they closed around 8pm. It cost about $22 and was cash only. If food is gonna cost that much, I think there should be an option to pay with card. The burritos were a decent size, topped with cheese, and swimming in a citrusy salsa verde. I didn't see any spicy salsa option and I wasn't a fan of this salsa which had no spice to it at all. They also gave us 1 bag of chips and 2 more salsa verdes on the side. The melted cheese on top was probably my favorite part of the burrito. The worst part, and the reason my rating is so low, is the carne asada was burnt! The burrito was filled with rice, beans, and crispy burnt pieces of asada. There was a sliver of sour cream and avocado, so I guess that and the salsa (which they give our for free anyway) and melted cheese on top was the "special" part. It was certainly a filling meal but I am extremely disappointed in the quality of the food I received for the price I paid. I would have been better off going to El Zarape on Fountain and getting a superior super burrito for a couple bucks less with the option to pay with card. Would not recommend this place. read more

If you are ordering for here that face warmly asks you to take a seat and brings out menus. Otherwise, you order at the counter. The same person at the register is the person serving tables and in need of a raise. Service is friendly and they are accommodating to reasonable requests --for example, they have made off menu items like burrito with pollo en mole for a small extra charge for me before. The food is good, portions are average, and prices are reasonable. I'd really like to try their weekend only menu items (menudo, birria, pozole). My boy friend and I really enjoyed the salsa. This is a cool mom and pop eatery to get some cuisine from south of the border. Although it's supposedly a Mexican restaurant serving tacos and burritos, I think the owner is El Salvadoran. I've been here twice and both times have had the burrito. It's a nice sized one and they pack it with chicken, beans, rice, tomatoes, onions, lettuce and I think a few carrot bits too, which is out of the ordinary, I know but it's still good. You also get a basket of chips and their home made salsa. It's not a tomato-based one which I prefer but it still does the job. The dining room is average sized and they have a television set also which has been set to soccer matches the both times I've been there. The gentleman who takes my order who is most likely the owner, is pretty cool and asks me what I want in the burrito every time I order it. I just tell him "me gusta todo" or "I want everything in it"! They have a lot of other plates that look good so I'll most likely be back again soon. Ok little hole in the wall. 9 small tables inside, no a/c, food was ok, ordered the asada plate. The corn tortillas are home made and you get 3 to a plate. The rice was average and the beans were tasty because they tasted like bacon grease which is a traditional way of making them. The asada was actually quite delicious and I have the melon water drink which had too much pulp. My asada meal and one drink was $18.xx which is way too much for what you get and where you are eating.
