I've been there for lunch and had a poor experience. Staff was chatting until I interrupted & asked if I could order. Food came out, no silverware, I had to ask again for my soda (glass bottle with cap still on) they simply handed it to me & it was room temp. Had to ask for them to open it & they gave me their bottle opener! Fine, yes i can do it myself but i open it and it fizzes all over me. They don't help me clean up either. I had to reach across the bar and grab a bunch of napkins from behind the two servers who are just chatting about a date one of them had the night before. I ask for ice for the leftover soda & it's begrudgingly given to me. Extremely poor service. It's like pulling teeth and I was the only there for most of my meal. read more

Okay so the drinks are beyond amazing, the price is so awesome and they actually are strong for $5. The food is good too, my favorite is the empanadas for sure. The only thing that I hate is the service. Extremely rude manager, she always has a nasty attitude and seems really angry at life. My family from out of town chose this restaurant based on a previous favorable experience. Tonight however was unbearable. There were parties of overly inebriated crowding the front of the space making so much noise. To compensate, I think the management turned up the music which made it difficult to have a conversation even with the person sitting next to you. Even the waiter had trouble taking the orders. If we weren't such a large group with limited time, I would have suggested that we go somewhere else. The food was okay and reasonably priced. I cannot recommend this place anymore. I've been here a few times and while the food wasn't great, the price made up for it. This place has gotten much more expensive. The burrito used to cost $10 with everything and now it costs much more. They charge you an extra dollar for each item like sour cream, pico de gallo, potatoes, and corn. Only the cheese, beans and rice is included in the price now. Not worth it. The price has gone up for everything it seems except for the $5 drinks. The $5 drinks are very small and very little alcohol. I recently ordered the fajitas. The were not good. There was no seasoning on the meat and they only give you 2 small tortillas with a pretty large plate. You have to pay $1 for every 2 additional tortillas. Won't t go back here as there are way more places charging the same price for better quality food. Won't recommend. read more

This review is based off the service which was received. Food was okay, a quick bite to eat and drinks to pregame. We came in on a Friday, it was pretty packed but not as busy as it's been on other days. We were served by Brandon and were given no utensils or napkins. We asked for salt 4 times and it took 20 minutes. When we placed the original order we asked for pico de gallo, it never came with the order and had to wait another 20 minutes for that. While the place is cool, they need to work on the service. As I am typing this, the table called the waiter Brandon Q over and he ran over, yet we couldn't Receive the same service. Everything was great getting there good vibes. There was about five birthdays going on pretty nice music was nice. There was no frozen alcoholic drinks. So I settle for a margarita and I got about three of them. Honestly didn't feel anything much at all after drinking them. and they took about 30 minutes + to bring me one of the drinks. me and my friend share a quesadilla. Both got a separate empanadas and we got an appetizer which was guacamole and chips and honestly everything was great for the first 15 minutes 20 minutes after we left. Honestly wanted to like this place. Came in on a Friday and was seated immediately then was asked to move after 5 mins, no big deal. Once moved took 15 minutes to get a waiters attention, we ordered and then waited for 45 minutes. And the waitress came over because she wanted to "add our order to the system" basically just lied to get the other again because they forgot/lost our original order. Saw she didn't even go to put the order in afterwards and got distracted. We left after drinking 1 very bad margarita (after the first sip we realized why they were only $8). We ordered the chips and salsa, carne asada quesadilla, pollo asado salad, barbacoa tacos, al pastor tacos, a chicken empanada, and a few margaritas and frozen sangrias. The bill came to $100 with tax and tip. Portion sizes were fine except for the drinks and the chips and salsa. We received maaaybe 10 whole chips while the rest were crumbs, and we didn't even get enough salsa to dip each of those 10 chips. The drinks were VERY mediocre and came in the smallest of glasses. If you're looking for a cheap marg, don't waste your time here and go to Mickey's instead. The entrees were... fine. If good food is what you're looking for, there are better Mexican restaurants along 9th Ave. The service here was rough. No one was at the front to welcome and seat new patrons. We were waiting for so long that we bonded with other people waiting to be greeted. This was around 6:30pm, and the restaurant wasn't even half occupied. When we were finally seated, we were given one menu for the entire table because the host didn't know where the rest were. Our server came quickly to our table to take our beverage orders: water, two frozen sangrias, and one frozen marg. We never got our water but the frozen drinks came to the table pretty quickly, and we ordered food at that time. I asked for my rice on the side (instead of inside the quesadilla, which is the default) and was told the kitchen was "too busy" to put it on the side. Half the tables were still empty. (?!?) This was the last interaction we had with our server aside from flagging her down for the bill. The empanada that we ordered with the rest of our food never came to table. When we mentioned that, the server ran to the kitchen and brought it to the table instead of asking if we'd prefer to have it removed from the bill. My friend rushed to eat the (dry) empanada as they were clearing the rest of the table, and we left. I had a passion fruit frozen margarita and my friend had a jalapeño margarita. Neither had alcohol or tasted of alcohol. I got the shrimp taco which was actually good but $5 per taco is a bit expensive with El Centro and Tacuba just down the block with much better tacos for a better price. Only giving 2 stars because the food wasn't bad. But don't come here it's a trendy vibe trap and is not worth your time. So I wanted to start by saying that I wanted to love this place. I've always read great reviews about this hot spot. Not only is it close to home, but who can beat $5 margaritas and $5 empanadas, right? Nothing beats cheap eats! In total it was a party of three. Cute little ambiance with the walls decorated with Don Julio Tequila bottles. We were seated right away at a table tucked by the wall. We were greeted immediately with cups full of ice and menus. I was impressed to see that all items were reasonably priced, like reasonably priced! So I ordered a frozen strawberry margarita and two shrimp and crabmeat empanadas. It took some time to receive the orders for the table but when it arrived, I dived right in to the margarita. I also would like to mention that the size of the Margarita were small (not your average serving at a bar) and very sweet with barely any liquor so in that regard, I was displeased. Moving along to the empanadas, I LOVE EMPANADA so what can go wrong? Not the biggest empanadas but not the smallest either. Noticed immediately that the seasoning wasn't on point when it comes to the seafood, not to mention the crabmeat fishy taste fresh. Already annoyed we decided to order one more round of drinks, coronas, another margarita, a Bellini, and a shot of Don julio which took about 20 minutes to get to the table. The Bellinis came out warm along with the Coronas. The margarita was good and the shot was even better. The bill came out to $130 for us three, but considering how much I love my drinks and food, I will never return. read more

The establishment is very Instagram worthy very nice. However the MANAGER Sucked her attitude was extremely RUDE AND UNNESSERASY !!! I visited this restaurant a week or two before had no issues had a lovely time with my daughter. This week I wanted to treat my family of 7 to a nice dinner here at El Coco restaurant, I explained to the hostess were a party mid size of 7. She then got the waiter to put 2 tiny tables together (the tables for 2) and tried to squeeze 7 chairs in as well. I asked the waiter if that was for my party and he replied yes , I then asked to speak to the manager and I was greeted with an attitude and she gave me the impression she was annoyed that I was even asking if there was an additional tiny table we can use because this was a tiny space for 7 people. The restaurant was not so busy in fact there were plenty of unused tables that could have been added to our area. She said let me check went to the back to hide and never came back out instead 15 mins later sent a waiter to bring an additional table out. Overall the food was good , The services could have been much better welcoming and accommodating, WE ARE PAYING COUSTOMERS ! read more

As a Mexican who enjoys eating authentic Mexican food this place wasn't it. While walking in I noticed that the place was well decorated for a café and not a taqueria. We first ordered chips and salsa ($4) . The chips were good, can't say the same for the salsa. The salsa tasted like straight up ketchup and as a person who goes to taquerias all over Mexico and California this salsa was not even close to being salsa. The carne asada tacos were not good nor bad but something that ticked me off was the lack of green salsa. For a 5 dollar margarita you're getting what you paid for a small glass. Sadly, I have to give El Coco One Star. Up until this past Friday, December 2, 2022, I would have given it Five Stars. Prices went up which I understand because of inflation. I have no problem paying the $1 increase on tacos. What I am really disappointed by is the fact that a pitcher of Margarita went from $25 to $45, almost double the price. I can see a $5 increase or even $10, but not a $20 increase. So very disappointed, they have lost me as a very loyal customer, and several of my friends feel the same way. read more

Absolute worst service I've ever experienced in my life. $5 marg are a 4oz shot glasses of mostly ice. The prices look great but it's definitely not worth the nothing you get. The music is so LOUD. I could maybe understand the club like vibe on a weekend but on a Monday night at 7:00pm they are blasting the music. This place won't survive.
