We came here during Restaurant Week because we wanted to try something different. If you haven't been before, just know that the music is very loud and the atmosphere is fun and almost club-like. The food was alright, but nothing really blew me away. I ordered the steak quesadilla, which tasted good but had a pretty small portion, and also had an empanada that was really good. The biggest issue was that they forgot our dessert, so we sat there for over 30 minutes waiting before eventually flagging down our waitress, getting the check, and taking the tres leches to go. I wasn't a huge fan of the dessert either. At $30 for the Restaurant Week menu, I left feeling like I could have gotten more food and better value at some of the other Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood.
I came here to eat with my friends, but unfortunately my experience with our server was disappointing. I arrived later than everyone else and asked if I could have a separate check since I hadn't ordered or spent nearly as much as the rest of the table. I was told that she couldn't do it because "the system doesn't allow it." As someone who is familiar with Toast, I know that checks can absolutely be split, including splitting them by seat/item. So I'm not sure why I was told otherwise. It honestly made me feel like the decision was more about keeping the gratuity higher rather than actually helping the customer. I was still planning on tipping her--I simply didn't want to pay a tip based on an amount I didn't personally spend. What made the experience even more frustrating was being told that there was no manager working on a Saturday night when I asked to speak with one. For a restaurant that's busy on a Saturday night, I found that very disappointing. I don't normally leave negative reviews, but I believe customers should be given accurate information and reasonable options when it comes to their checks. I hope management looks into this because this could have been handled very easily and professionally.
We went for brunch. If we went for drinks, I'd give it 4+ stars. The place is more of a bar than a restaurant and smelled like a beer hall. The tacos come with nothing; we had to request Pico de gallo. We tried 4 different types of tacos, tilapia, shrimp, pork and vegetables. I liked that the fish wasn't fried. The vegetables lacked seasoning. The birria tacos were the best of the bunch. The service was friendly.
my experience may be different/way better because I stopped in when there were just a few people inside, and I grabbed only a burrito w/ drink to go. The woman at the counter was hella friendly and made me feel welcomed! Ordered: 1 Al Jardin Burrito (vegetarian: avocado, corn, bell pepper, refried pinto beans, crema, tomatillo sauce) ... It came perfectly wrapped with a side of chips/ two salsas + the burrito was grilled -- both unexpected but super appreciated. Tons of NA drinks to choose from. They have some other great menus: a $20 lunch prix fixe M-F 12-4PM, Brunch S-Sun 12-4PM, large/suuuper cheap cocktail one if you like a deal (can't speak to strength, thouuuugh).
Great happy hour spot. When I went there was loud music and everyone was happy. There was a DJ but people sat at their seats like a restaurant, they weren't trying to be a lounge or nightclub. The spicy margarita was good and worth the slight additional price over the classic.
I really enjoyed dining at El Coco , I had brunch here and it was absolutely delicious and there's a $20 Bottomless drink menu for 2 hours that includes (Mimosas, Bellini, Bloody Mary, Brunch Is Available Saturday and Sunday from 12-4pm For The Entrees I had To Get The Chicken and Waffles , it was so delicious perfectly fried crispy chicken ,and the best waffles with seasonal fruit I also had the Steak & Eggs It was prepared and seasoned perfectly. I even tried the Everyday Happy Hour and the $5 Dollar Margarita it was perfect. There's also so many great options on the Everyday Menu like a $7 Birria Taco that is one of the best I've had, and delicious empanadas with many flavors to choose from. The Service and Vibes Are Great. This is definitely one of my new favorite restaurants in NYC.
Good spot, food isn't life changing but its good. This is definitely a party spot, loud music and fun lighting so be prepared to yell to talk. Come here to have a fun meal rather then a regular one! Service was pretty good. A bit overpriced for what ur getting, but your also paying for the fun atmosphere!
Came here for brunch on a sunday. Walked in the restaurant and it seemed like a cool vibe for a sunday brunch. I was excited to try it out as ai heard good things from friends about this place. There were about 8 of us and the restaurant was not crowded at all. There may have been a private event upstairs though. Some of us did the bottomless mimosas which was a good price for what it was. I believe it was 20.00 but I could be wrong. The glasses were small and came with a line. I never saw glasses for mimosas come with a lime. That was the first odd thing. I did not have the best experience here starting from when we were placing our food and drink orders. I had placed my order, at first I wanted the omelette but without something but they were not able to accommodate that since all the fillings were mixed together. Fine I get that, I then ordered the eggs Benedict with the sauce on the side and that was fine. I than proceeded to tell her I have alot of food allergies so she can write it down, mind you the music was blasting! It did not need to be that loud for that size of a resturant for brunch. It was not crowded at all and its not a club. I think maybe also a little bit of it was language barrier? I than went over to her after and wanted to double check that she wrote down everything to tell the kitchen staff. Well all of my friends got their dishes and I was the last one which I am used to as I know the kitchen staff wants to be sure nothing with my food is wrong/cross contamination or what not. Which I appreciate, but this wait was pretty long. Pretty much all of my friends were done with theres when I did finally get my dish. Mind you, I only got Eggs Benedict. They should have either done mine first or I don't know. And the waitress didn't seem like she cared that my food was taking soo long. Some places may have said like sorry you had to wait so long for your meal or something is on us. But nope, nothing. Maybe their non brunch food is a bit better but the eggs Benedict were just ok not much to it and kind of tasteless. There are better Mexican restaurants in NYC that is for sure.
Service was less than par. Had to keep calling the bartender over to get food / drinks. Drinks were terrible. VERY small portions and the margaritas were not great. Good happy hour if you don't care for portion size, but in my opinion not worth it. I tried the nachos with cheddar cheese and the nachos with beef and pepper jack. Both awful. Beef were better but the cheese on both were terrible and highly not recommended. I heard the empanadas were good, but I did not try them. The portion size of the nachos were also not impressive. All in all, would not recommend. There is better Mexican
Came here at 230pm on a Wednesday. Only one other person in here. Not sure where the waiter was but someone brought us water and disappeared lol. I think the pr team was here because about 5 women were taking pics of food but never acknowledged us either Ended up asking the bartender if we could order and she became our server from there out. Ordered from the "lunch prix fixe" for $15 per person. Actually a bomb chicken wrap that i was not expecting after the service. Chicken soup was hot with just chicken and veggies, no noodles but barely missed them and the churro dessert was . The food was great but i think we could've left without paying and they may have never noticed
Came here for Cinco De Mayo, was crowded to be expected. Was seated in area where we have 1 hour to dine, except when you sit down it takes a few minutes to find someone to take your order. Only for me to scream my order to my waitress because the music is extremely loud. It wasn't at a level for a restaurant? There's no dance floor. it's disorganized. The staff seemed overwhelmed and unimpressed. The food was mediocre. Wasn't bad but for the price no. The lemon drop was delicious though. I did like that the fish in the fish taco wasn't battered. The guacamole I paid $3 for was 1/4 of avocado mashed, no salt, no flavor, no onions, no lime. The salsa provided wasn't good or spicy and nothing had flavor. Equites were 5/10
My girlfriend & I along with our friends came here before our R&B concert. The vibes were right, I love the disco, the lighting and ambiance. It was a bit of a wait but very understanding with how lit up this place was. The service was good at the start, but I did not like how the server gave my girlfriend a side eye and attitude. Also delivering a horrible experience when getting drinks. Drink was extremely watered down and just un acceptable. However the tacos were okay, well seasoned but could use some sauce. This place I'll give a 7 out of 10. Would be more if we had better service and drinks. Also had to wait for over an hour when our reservation was at 7. Mind you other tables were free but we still had to wait. You guys can use some room for improvement. Hopefully the next time All four of us visit again, you can ever so kind my accommodate us
I hate to kiss on Local places,BUT the people whobrun BecxoDi Bacca next door FAILED here. The brunch was Sub Par, all 3 entrees were luke warm , rhe allnyou can drink had 4 items, 1 was NA. Then with that we were all obligated to drink our 1 choice for the time we were there. The Sangria was Horrible No fruit in it, no Ice....Do not waste your time for this Brunch spot!

It started off rough but it was all well by the end of service. Popped in with my sister for happy hour today this place has been on our list and we finally made it. It's ah small place but the decor is cute and the service is fast and friendly. Budget friendly and the menu is decent, the drinks were a miss for me but for the price I understand. I enjoyed my burrito bowl the elote and chips and salsa was good as well, the music was good overall vibe for the gang if y'all just want to vibe. The manager was super sweet for resolving our issue so thank you for that!!! read more

El Coco is a great spot for a decent cheap meal. so many restaurants in nyc are extremely pricey, and i'm sure i'm not alone in saying that sometimes i want to go out without dropping $100 on dinner and drinks. this is a great place to avoid the high price tag. everything is cheap, but the food is decent! i enjoyed all the tacos we got (fish & chicken mostly), but i liked the chicken empanada even more. chips and salsa are fine (a bit basic but that's fine) and the drinks are good (don't expect big ones though, they're low cost for a reason!) definitely would suggest hitting up this spot for an easy taco tuesday option, but watch out, it fills up fast! read more

The Pink Aesthetic at El Coco is Super Cute. They have $5 Margaritas, $3 Empanadas, $4 Tacos. We made reservations for a party of 3 for Taco Tuesday. I ordered the Chicken burrito ($9) which was BOMB.com. Super delicious. My best friend got the steak burrito which she couldn't stop raving about and our other friend got the chicken tacos which she busted down within 2 minutes. That goes to say that the food here is definitely great. The margs though, did us DIRTY! They tasted like straight up juice but creeped the heck up on us. We started off with the passionfruit margaritas, then to get a frozen coco margarita and ended up getting a pitcher of plain margarita ($30)! AMAZING drinks. Needless to say the prices here are un-beatable especially for the city. The place was super loud though, not music wise but people talking loud. We asked one of the waiters to raise up the music and they did which was wonderful. We also requested some songs and they played them. GREAT TIME, great service, beautiful ambiance, & delicious food & drinks at El Coco. read more
Great prices ($5 for a marg?!) and great food but service is slow. We had to wait a while before our food came out and then had to remind the waiter a few times to grab our check when we were done. Otherwise, would recommend for a solid Taco Tuesday! read more

Great food, amazing service and music. We ordered the pollo asado bowl, spinach empanada, chicken tinga empanada, fish taco, al jardin taco, and esquites. All were so good. Pitcher margaritas are a better deal than the $5 ones read more
My girlfriend and I were in the mood for tacos and fame by here to carry out. The atmosphere is pretty chill on the inside, I'd like to come and dine in next time. The short Rib taco was tough and lacked seasoning. The Baja shrimp had nice spice, but the star was the shrimp and crab meat empanada. The food took less than 15 minutes to come out. Very prompt. read more
Bought Two Friends From Out Of Town Here For All Day Happy Hour Deal (Shown In The Picture Below) And The Staff Didn't Even Know About The Promotion. My Waiter Did Not Speak English And The "Managers Assistant" Was Acting Like She Couldnt Assist Her Or Knew What The Promotion Is, I Had To Keep Showing Them The Picture Then They Text The Manager And Came And Told Us Only Plain Margarita, The Plain Empanada And Veggie Taco Were Only On The Happy Hour. WHICH IS FALSE ADVERTISEMENT And A SCAM To Get People In The Door Because There's Nothing Nowhere Saying Restrictions Apply To Deal Above or Any Indications That Show That. Which Leaves People Thinking All Tacos Are $4, All Margaritas Are $5 And All Empanadas Are $3. read more

My friend had this place booked marked & we were in the area so we figured why not come check it out. They have a decent happy hour, $5 for frozen drinks not bad they are small but decent depending how many u drink! Food for the most part is served tapas style, easy to try a few items. Margaritas & Frozen Sangrias for drinks were decent. To start we got the Empanadas , tried the Chicken & Pork wheat ones they were very good & so was the Ham & Cheese & Shrimp empanada. Also tried the Corn chicken not bad. The Esquites, corn was very tasty. On the Tacos I had the Carne & Pollo asado , grilled meat , seasoned well I liked the Carne more but both were good. Decent tacos for Al pastor, Fish , Shrimp & Mar y Tierra. Fun looking place, very loud music maybe a bit too loud for a sit down meal? But at least they played good music. The service was a bit all over since they take your order & like disappear, took time to find our waitress, get the check. HH & food prices were decent overall, we enjoyed our time here. read more
Cute new Latin restaurant and bar that plays loud music and serves strong, tasty drinks at good prices. In fact, the whole menu is very affordably priced; I will not be surprised to see them inflated a few months from now. Don't delay! read more
We came here on a weekday. It has kind of a party vibe -- if you're coming for drinks with a group it's probably great. Margaritas are 5 dollars and while it's a small glass, it was pretty strong. For like a relaxed dinner, I would go elsewhere. The chips and salsa were good but the rest of the food was average, not bad but also nothing special. read more

Great restaurant to go to! Their food is very cheap and delicious and they have amazing margaritas. The service is good, but they play their music way too loud-- it hurts your ears and it's hard to hear other people. Still recommend going though! read more

No! First off the place looks great like an IG photo spot but missing something. I'm sure it's cuter and more fun when it's packed at night with music. Seriously the worse Elote I've ever had. Boiling hot, No taste, barely any mayo but also very spicy. Tiniest Tacos you've ever seen, to go along with the tiniest margarita, even the bigger one was little. The upside, the empanadas were good. read more
I came here with my cousin after work. We started off with margaritas which were $5, the thing is the cups are small. So we decided to order the pitcher of Margarita which was strong. The only thing is that the there is something missing in the taste. For food I tried the tacos they were good but nothing spectacular (also small in size). The staff were friendly. The music was good. It's just dark inside. read more

El coco has quickly risen to be one of THE hottest spots. That much is true for this location as the air conditioner is barellllyyy felt anywhere but near the bar area. The back of the restaurant feels like a sweat pit. I really despise this location because of this factor. I did not order any food this time because I had just come from eating. This drink has me wonder if El Coco became too hot too fast. It was a frozen pina colada with a dash of liquor. The host was all over the place which made it difficult to order a shot. Then by the time she did come around, I was ready to go. It was hot, the drink wasn't boozy, and a very large party came in next to us that took up about 3-4 tables. I'd revisit the one closer to me on the UWS, at least the air circulates. read more

Such a vibe! Came here for my moms birthday with her coworkers. The happy hour deals were good. They were able to accommodate a large party. The chicken tinga empanadas were really spicy, but the arroz con pollo was really good. Id love to come back for brunch! read more

Great vibes, music, and food. Our server Will was so friendly. My favorite is anything steak! Burrito bowl was delicious, but on a smaller side. If with a group, margarita pitchers are a must! Their empanadas are fantastic. Great prices. Don't miss this gem. read more
El Coco is the new go-to spot for photo-worthy food, good music, and a lively atmosphere. We tried the El Jardin omelette and tacos: Barbacoa, Al pastor, and fish. Tacos are the clear standout of the assortment with fish being our preference. Our waiter -who was friendly and walked us through the entire menu with a smile- told us Fish tacos had sold out last Saturday! No, it's not a traditional Mexican taco place, and it is comparable to Brooklyn spots- a trendy dining experience curated for Instagram. During peak nights, there's a DJ mixing everything from Bad Bunny to Dua Lipa. Come for the atmosphere and vibes. read more

Came by for a quick bite & a drink, found out they have a cute little garden in the back. I ordered the camarones (shrimp) taco and the carne asada (steak) taco. Each priced at $6. Both tasted good and the portion was very generous. The $5 classic margarita was TINY but strong and tasted just ok. Music was too loud and annoying to my ear. Overall a nice experience, might visit again to try other things read more

I was really upset with the whole experience. The waitress was not friendly at all and she seemed annoyed from the very beginning, and throughout the whole dinner. I would say she was pretty unprofessional. We started off by ordering drinks. Yes, they're $5 but the cups are extremely small. I also couldn't understand why they can't add the flavor into the cup for frozen margaritas, but you can add them to margaritas on the rocks (it's literally just a syrup). We ordered chips & guac, 6 empanadas, and elote to start, as well as tacos and burritos for dinner. When she brought out the chips and guac, I asked for us to get small plates and she looked at me and said "you need plates for chips and guac?" ..... uhmmmm, yes, it would be nice for us to have plates in general and yes, we would like them for the empanadas that we ordered to share. Then the empanadas ended up coming with our dinner. The steak empanada was my favorite. Chicken Tinga empanadas were rather dry, but better with the sauces that come with the table. I've also never had elite as spicy as this restaurant serves it. I don't mind spicy, so I was ok with it, but I was looking forward to a nice good elote. My friends loved the carne asada burrito, and I enjoyed the al pastor taco. Barbacoa was also good, but better with the sauces that came on the table. At 10pm on the dot, the waitress came over right away with the check, before asking if everything was ok and if we were ready. I finally understood that the place was closing, but it would have been nice if we were given a heads up with a last call. Oh and last but not least, a drink ended up spilling on the table, but the other waiter was more concerned about us ordering a new drink and when he asked if we needed anything else, I said, yes it would be nice if you can help us clean the table as we had no napkins! It was a very awkward pause and I was just confused. Food wasn't bad but boy oh boy do these severs need to learn some standard etiquete. read more

As long as they are not drinking or sitting at the bar, I don't see a problem with that.
