    I was there on a Friday night. Waited at the bar until my friend arrived and everyone from the host stand to the bartender were welcoming and kind. We were seated quickly once I let the hostess know the party was ready - and we got a great table. The drinks, the service and the food were all memorable. If you are craving that old school (think 1970s) Mexican restaurant- this will fit the bill. All the classics (I had a taco / enchilada combo) asked for no rice and got double beans (perfect.)

    I went here for lunch with a friend on a Tuesday afternoon around 12. It was not busy at all and we were seating immediately - we chose outdoor seating. There is complimentary chips and salsa after being seated. I ordered the lunch special and my friend got t fish tacos. Her order came with 3 tacos, rice, beans and guacamole. I got the chile relleno and tamale and the special came with the Cesar salad. Price wise, the lunch "special" was still about $20 when the dinner price of the entree with rice and beans is only ~$22 so it doesn't seem like you are getting a deal at all since you don't get the rice and beans. The chile relleno was also a lot smaller than ones I've had at other restaurants - only seems to have half a pepper inside. The tamale and salad were good and filling. Street parking in the neighborhood or on the Main Street, we found parking easily on a weekday afternoon. There is also an option to valet your car.

    We came here for a holiday lunch with our team. It was so wonderful we got the guacamole as apps and then everyone got an entree. Staff was so wonderful, would 100% come back!! They had these really long banquet tables it was so nice! Will definitely be back.

    I always enjoy my time here! It is such a festive, fun atmosphere. The staff and guests are seemingly happy. It would be amazing to work where everyone is so dedicated to being happy. The food: I ordered the fish tacos and they were spot on. Perfectly spiced, so that my wife doesn't try to take them, but mild enough for me to enjoy. The drinks are perfectly made and I could easily be content bringing friends here often. I strongly recommend that you go here for great times, very good food , and a warm atmosphere!

    My fiancé and my favorite restaurant in Santa Monica. The best most cozy place ever for date nights or brunch or birthday dinners or family gatherings. This is absolutely our go to. The service is always great and fast with great food food and very comfortable environment. I have so many memories here. I would be so sad if they ever left Santa Monica.

    Why is this place rated so high? The guacamole? Absolutely. The salsa? If mild is your thing, sure. The fajitas? Depends. If you seek a higher ratio of bell peppers compared to your protein, you are in heaven. The burrito? Yep it's massive, and the crunch of black beans is the star, for your dentist. I had the burrito. Can't recall the name. It's massive. I ate maybe 1/4. It comes with a lot of rice, crunchy black beans - I assume they were not meant to be al dente. Guacamole, that was in a tiny cup, your protein, sour cream and cheese - which I removed. I went shrimp for my protein replacing the chicken. They were cool with the switch. Huge plus. I guess there is a run on tiny shrimp, because at best there were nine. In the entire burrito. I know this because I used a fork and opened up this bad boy. I can't understand why the guacamole wasn't in the burrito and why it wasn't refried beans? They include a salad, though. They show the year it became part of the menu. I think it was 1967. Regardless, they are late to the game. I recommend going back in a time machine say 1824. My friend had said fajitas with chicken. She ate all the chicken, part of the refried beans and some of the veggies, but my god there was a ton of those green, yellow and red peppers left over. My guess? A new version of M&Ms - veggie version.

As a film nut, of course I ordered the Cinema Paradiso, this is a very imaginative cocktail recipe, like a an Old Fashioned but with a movie theater twist, kindly served with a pinch of candy kettle-corn at our table by the mixologist herself; what a playful and tasty delight! For starters, we are ordered the Mini-French-Onion Grilled Cheese and Hamachi Crudo. Both absolutely delicious. The Hamachi Crudo Leche de Tigre sauce is beyond perfect. The balance of flavors between charriness of the bread and melted cheeses, and tangy onion soup dip...just wow. Then the steak! Accompanied by a delicious Châteauneuf-du-Pape, we shared between two, a perfectly cooked (medium rare of course, don't be basic) N.Y. Strip (au poivre sauce on the side) with au gratin, and it came with nice little on the vine roasted tomatoes and a little leafy salad...like I told Chef when he came to our table post meal: "INCROYABLE!". Every-Single-Bite!! But, aside every dish being perfect and the service being above and beyond, what literally brought me to tears was the dessert. I haven't had "floating islands" since my mom used to make it many, many moons ago (unfortunately ma is now at early dementia), and when I tasted my first spoonful here, I couldn't hold back the tears, memories flooded and complimented by the preceding meal which was perfect...too many feels. Merci Beaucoup! For a VERY special culinary experience to all at La Monique. Please don't change a thing. I rarely ever make the effort to write a review, but this is very much worth every second. We'll be coming back for sure. Feel like I just discovered fire.

    I am absolutely shocked. After we left, they added $100 in tips to my bill without my authorization…read more-- I only discovered it later on my bank statement. This is completely unacceptable and feels like fraud. To make things worse, the food was completely average -- nothing special at all and definitely not worth the prices they charge. I've never experienced anything like this, even at the most basic places. This is beyond unprofessional and extremely disappointing. I would strongly advise others to double-check their receipts and statements after visiting this restaurant.

This place gets busy the minute they open their doors so make reservations prior. 1. Korean Aguachile: fresh tilefish sashimi with finely sliced cucumber and white floral decor simmered in ice cold kimchee broth they pour at the table. Soooo good. Must order. 2. Soy Marinade Blue Prawn: My favorite dish of the night. Huge raw blue prawns (head attached) marinaded with soy sauce. Served with barley rice topped with Ssam jang (type of bean paste sauce), and seaweed paper. You wrap all ingredients in the seaweed paper to make a hand roll. Soooooo delicious. Can't walk out without trying this. 3. Beef short ribs: good but nothing unique in its flavoring . Beef steak(medium rare and super tender) that's lightly marinaded/glazed (so not overly sweet) with kbbq/short rib sauce. This is one of their fan favorites so I suggest you try it.. 4. Chilled Acorn Noodles: chewy cOLD noodles made with acorn (just like the acorn jelly side dish we eat). The noodles are seasoned with Korean Cho-go-chu-jang (Gochujang paste), crispy cucumber slices, loads of dried seaweed flakes, and perilla oil. And you just mix them all together. Sooo good and paired well with the short ribs. Incredible. 5. Bluefin tuna and trout Bibimbop: like a poke bowl but so much better. Rice at the bottom with loads of lettuce strips, bluefin tuna sashimi, radish slices, and cavier. Seasoned with Korean Cho-go-chu jang (Gochujang paste with a twist of vinegar). Very good as well. For drinks we tried the shikhye slush (shikhye is a Korean sweet rice drink dessert). They used a slushy shikhye base with warm cinnamon and ginger spices and pisco for a kick. Also tried the Sujinggwa manhattan which is sujunggwa (traditional Korean cinnamon ginger dessert tea served cold) and a single malt. This was fabulous. Overall fantastic experience. Fantastic food, cool ambiance's. And great service. Highly highly recommend this place!

Oysters - good though small, enjoyed the kelp mignonette Korean Aguachile - Delicate tilefish completely overwhelmed by cold kimchi broth with actual icy slush in it and small amounts of fish Steak Tartare - The hot stone bowl seemed to defeat the purpose of a tartare, as it cooked the steak once mixed. The perilla leaves were also cut in large strips relative to the beef. Chilled Acorn Noodle - The perilla oil was nonexistent in flavor though the dish didn't need it and was good without. Overall, portions were small for the price and dishes weren't well-executed so despite being excited for more Korean options in West LA, I'd much rather make the drive to Koreatown for better portions, prices, and flavors.

Unfortunately, the delivery driver accidentally dropped the flowers off at the other Hermanito location on Sawtelle! I assumed the surprise was ruined. Then the hostess came up to me and said, "Don't worry... our manager is driving over there now to pick them up and bring them back." I couldn't believe it. Sure enough, just as I was finishing my first Japanese Old Fashioned, Gilbert (the manager) walked in with the bouquet and completely surprised my wife. Absolute save. Huge thanks to Gilbert and the entire staff for going above and beyond to make the night so special. (I wish I remembered the names of our wonderful server and the incredible hostess who helped coordinate everything!) Thank you both too. I stuck with just one Urfa mezcalita while enjoying the views for the remainder of the night. This lasted until dessert where plenty were ordered.
