The wait staff is so sweet and my girls just love the food and cartoons they have on the tv!

The coffee was terrible, the food was bad. My eggs cooked Mexican style were way overcooked, they were covered with a tasteless sauce, and the rice was half cooked. My friend's plate of fish tacos had him hunting for the tiny bits of fish, and he was not happy with the beans and rice either. The service was barely acceptable. read more

Cute place, I love the ball jars that the drinks come in. Plenty of TVs if you wanted to come watch the game. Music helped set the mood for Mexican feast. The waitress took time to answer question about my allergy and I was very thankful for that. Salsa had a nice kick to it with a great flavor. Indoor or outdoor seating here. I don't like to eat outside so we chose inside but the outdoor seating is along a quaint downtown street worth lots of shops and visitors. Chips and salsa came right away as expected. The salsa is thick and chunky worth really good flavor. Iced tea came in a quart size mason jar(Mexican food with a southern twist). I have to drink unsweet and it was fresh. We both ordered the lunch special#1 Chile relleno with a taco and beans. The taco was fresh, shell is crisp but doesn't fall apart when you bite it. Ok in my book. The Chile batter was a bit thick. The pepper had good spice abs the cheese did not flow out which kept the cheese and pepper together to get the flavors popping in your mouth. We found Serindipity in Landrum SC. Better known as El Chile Rojo. One of the best Mexican locals this close to the NC border. This local estab is on the flavor town map. We had the fajita quesadillas, chicken, Steak and Shimp. These came with a guacamole salad. The size to food ratio was on point, the service was excellent. The water cups where country super sized. The chips and salsa where very savory and in house tasty. We will be back to Haunt this place again! read more

This delightful restaurant is seated in a cute strip in Landrum. I came with my grandparents after we found their favorite place was closed on Mondays. This was a delightful surprise! To start, the chips were fresh and delicious and the homemade salsa had just the right amount of kick. They serve it in little carafes that are so cute and practical. I ordered the iced tea which was served in a large Mason jar. Not only was it pleasing to the eye, but it was tasty as well. All 3 of us ordered different menu items and we were all very pleased. I chose the chicken flautas that were hot and crispy. My grandpa had the #10 and was praising it the whole time he ate. I tried a bite and it was definately seasoned to perfection. My grandma had the beef tip taco salad and devoured it. The service was 10/10 and everyone was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was nice although they are currently in the process of a remodel. My only complaint is that the kitchen was very very dirty. I just try not to think about that as I enjoyed my delicious food. I will definately be back next time I am visiting Landrum We read more

If you know me you know I like Mexican food ha ha! This place was pretty cute, I had a rollup garage door so it had a nice outdoor feel even though we sat inside. The waitress was new and a teeny bit clueless but super sweet and friendly and as we were the only people there we definitely got good service. Couple of beers, chips and salsa and traditional Mexican plates which by the way we're hot as super fuck, can I say that on yelp? Why is it when they say hot plate I absolutely must touch it? The food here was great, really liked the queso and salsa. Also, the chips were warm as if toasted which bumped it up a notch compared to other Mexican restaurants. Our meals were really good too, I got carne asada quesadillas with steak, they were big hot and flavorful. The restaurant was quite dated but that's to be expected in an older downtown area but it added to the uniqueness of the place. I'm a little divided on this place, because although I enjoyed my meal, the people at the table who are Hispanic and know much more about Mexican food than I do didn't enjoy it as much. The salsa is very good. I'm not a big fan of salsa, but I couldn't stop eating it! They had to refill our chip bowls a couple of times. I got the Taco Salad and I thought it was good. I didn't enjoy the fried bowl as much as I usually do and I ended up leaving a good amount of it on my plate. A friend ordered Guacamole and was shocked by how little she got. She wouldn't share because it was so small. I can't remember exactly what my other friends got, but one sent her dish back. The waiters were extremely nice about it and brought her another one. She still didn't like the second one. I hate it when I have a bad meal, because it puts me in a bad mood, and I saw this happen to her. However, the dish she ordered was pretty exotic (read not a standard Americanized Mexican dish) and I believe as long as you stick to the basics this place is pretty good. Our first clue should've been that hardly anyone was in the restaurant at 6:00 on a Saturday night. Ceiling tiles in the room we were seated were falling down & stained. The cheese dip was too thick & lukewarm at best. The main entree was supposed to be a quesadilla but was nothing more than a soft shell taco! We thought they had brought us the wrong order. First, I post reviews that are just facts both good and bad. My wife and I had lunch here on Monday. We were seated quickly then 15 minutes later I had to ask to be waited on. 3.5 Stars So we stayed at "The red horse Inn" from a living social deal. Landrum, SC is a small town. We ate a late lunch and wanted to eat a late dinner, about 9 ish. We were trying to find a place to eat and finally stumbled on this Mexican Restaurant. I loved the atmosphere but since it was late in a small town, there was only 2 people at the bar. We decided to sit on the patio and I was really enjoying the gorgeous weather. Well 5 minutes into sitting, my husband tells me to not move. There was a huge spider coming down from the patio ceiling right over my shoulder. Call me a wimp but I hate BUGS :) I looked up and there are spiders all over the ceiling, I immediately made us move inside, which is SPIDER Free. It was outside seating, so it was more my fault for sitting out there. We ordered: - Carne Asada: I liked my carne asada. It was good, not the best I've had but I would eat here again. What I did like was these pickled jalapeno peppers in my salad. They tasted Great w/ the steak. - Chicken Quesadilla, Chicken Enchilada: These again were both good, typical mexican food. - Sopapillas: It was interesting, It's basically a deep fried tortilla with honey, cinnamon and sugar. I've been going there for years and the food has been good. However this past week they lost my debit card. The service was horrible and the answer to my card was "just cancel it". Not okay with me. I was excited to try this place. The logo was cool, the place looks nice. The salsa was delicious, which is why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. I ordered the veggie fajitas and my sister ordered the spinach quesadillas. The fajitas had frozen veggies and they just used salsa for flavoring. There was no oil (or extremely little) used, so the fajitas weren't satisfying. Just imagine taking frozen veggies and adding salsa to them. That's what my meal tasted like. My sister's quesadilla had canned spinach with no additional spices. I mean the mushy dark green stuff straight from a 75 cent can of spinach. And the spinach still contained a lot of water, so it made the quesadilla very soggy. So folks, they do not use fresh ingredients. Just frozen or canned stuff. If you are a meat eater, maybe you will have better luck with some of the other meals they offer. I, however, won't waste any more money hoping it gets better. read more

My boyfriend and I recently moved to the area and we wanted a nice homey Mexican joint as our favorite restaurant back home is like that, el chile rojo delivered! An excellent import beer list, simple but clean and authentic surroundings. There's even a pool table available. The staff is friendly and the food is good. Fabulous! We were a bit hesitant to try another Mexican restaurant, but we figured we'd give it a try. The salsa is simple but oh so addicting. We asked for seconds. He got a Cuervo margarita which was well worth the money. I had the chicken fajitas and he had the carne asada. Neither of us were disappointed. The only con was his steak wasn't marinated. I was strangely disappointed about this place. Many times I've driven by and it always seemed busy so I had to pop in and munch some lunch. Went through the the front door which is broken and slams loudly behind you and was greeted by a rather funky smell. I chose to eat outside. Lol I wasn't sure if I should even order but the tables were clean and was given a clean menu so I thought well we're here now. I had Burritos Deluxe which were tasty enough but covered in cut lettuce with a dollop of sour cream and some runny salsa. By runny I mean my plate was swimming in juice so my Burritos were soggy. Disappointing that the chef/cook doesn't seem to really care. My wife had vegetarian enchiladas and they were lackluster. Don't think me over fussy please, but I've eaten at plenty of Mexicans and the food here seriously lacks soul. Whoever prepared my food was either tired, fed up or hungover. Having said that, if they're proud of the food they turn out then they are single handedly destroying what should be the best Mexican in the area. I mean really. The nearest competition are turning out excellent meals and great atmospheres. This place, I'm wondering if they are wondering why they're struggling. If I could give this place a 0 or even a negative star rating, I would. As someone who hails from a state where QUALITY AUTHENTIC MEXICAN RESTAURANTS are a dime a dozen, I can say that this place has the WORST "Mexican food" I've ever had. We placed an order to go. Upon getting it back home, we found that despite the fact that I stated multiple times that I wanted chicken quesadillas, I got chicken enchiladas. The girl who took the order was new, and confused the entrée numbers. There is no menu on the website. Apparently it's on their Facebook page which when you Google the option to go to the Facebook page doesn't even come up. My friend who ordered the enchilada supreme plate opened the container to find what looked like a soaked taco salad. There were enchiladas underneath the slop on top, but they were soggy and one had no meat, beans or chicken in it. The plate was also supposed to come with beans, but those were omitted from the order. The guacamole was bland as was the rest of the "food". When we called the restaurant we were told that we got the correct order according to the combo numbers. My combo number for the quesadillas was recorded incorrectly. This meal cost almost $25 and was a complete disappointment. Nothing about it was right, and we probably would've been better off eating dog food. read more

With all the negative reviews I was unsure about trying this place. I'm glad I gave it a try, it's a lot better than any other Mexican restaurant in the Landrum/Tryon/Columbus area. I tried them all. This restaurant had the best salsa out of them all too. If they would pick the Cilantro stems out next time. I got a combo number 27 burrito/Enchalada with rice n beans. I was pleasantly suprised that the beef actually had spices in it unlike many other restaurants I've tried. The rice n beans were good too. The only thing I didn't like was the Enchalada sauce was a strange taste. If they would just use standard red sauce it would have been good. My wife had nachos which she said were pretty good. Very disappointing. We picked up some chicken tacos (2 soft and 2 crispy) for lunch and when we got home discovered that the chicken tacos were beef. The crispy chicken tacos were beef chimichangas and not crispy tacos. There was really no flavor in anything. The refried beans were tasteless. The only thing that tasted good was the salsa and the chips were fresh, makes me wonder if they actually make their own salsa.
