Tucked away on a side street in Tryon. Just minutes from Landrum. I've been telling people about this place and the usual response is "I never knew this place existed!" I love the jalapeno burger with grilled onions. The fries are fresh cut so I might ask for extra crispy next time. But the seasoning is so good! This time I got the Miss Patty's Patty melt and it's not like anything I was expecting. It's HuGe! But so good with the dressing on it and toasted rye. Speaking of rye, the Ruben is phenomenal!! Great food, great people, and locally owned. Y'all need to stop sleeping on this place. It has the bar area in the front and then there is an additional dining room in the back. Nestled in a quaint mountain town, the restaurant is in a cozy setting surrounded by stone. The food has never disappointed! Family favs are the fried green beans for an appetizer, the southern fried chicken sandwich tossed in Buffalo sauce with house chips, the kimchee bacon smashed burger with fries, fish and chips, fried shrimp plate, and salads. Came here on a Thursday night and it wasn't too busy! It's the same decor as the previous restaurant, super cozy and welcoming. We started with the mozzarella sticks which were pretty decent! It's hard to mess up so that's a good sign. The second appetizer we got was the corn ribbitz and let me tell you, they were amazing!! It's seasoned and fried corn that you eat like a rub. Super delicious and smokey flavor I would come back here just for that. For my main I got the ribeye steak with broccoli and fries. Everything super hot a fresh. Broccoli was excellent and tasted great. Fries were also great. I usually get my steaks medium rare and my steak was a tad bit rare. I don't think I would order it again which is fine because they have many other menu options. My friend got the fried chicken sandwich and it was super tasty, they enjoyed it. The staff was great! First time in Tryon, stumbled into this place ( down a side street). Sunday afternoon, the place was about 1/3 full. Come in was greeted by hostess and seated immediately with utensils and a menu. Waitress came pretty quick, took our order came back shortly with bar drinks and returned again with waters. The wife had Reuben and chips. I ordered Fish and fries with coleslaw. I saw a burger go by with 3 giant onion rings... I called our server over and asked if I could get 1/2 and half (fries and rings) she said they did not have onions rings, they are only for the burgers ( opportunity lost). My wife's Reuben with homemade chips was excellent, good size. My Fish was great, a very delicate crust and flaky fish, the coleslaw was super but only a sample (1/2 cup), the fries.... Inedible, they literally had the texture of a shoe string I had to rip them open to chew a piece, limp, tasteless, horrible. I flagged a kitchen person down, told him I was not upset because everything was super but the fries needed work. I told him to try one, he picked it up and said " those don't look good". He offered to get me a fresh batch but I declined. Great service, great atmosphere, mostly great food. My first time having dinner here. We actually came here with some friends we made through yelp! So 4 yelpers eating here and trying it out for the first time. Have to say the service was very good. The waitress was on top of everything. She was very understanding when I got my Monte Cristo and had to send it back because it was not cooked all the way through it was still gooey batter. Most waitresses get a attitude when things go wrong but not this one. She was very nice Took back the sandwiches and had them remade. Our friends being Vegan tried the " Hamburger" plant based. They said it was very good. The restaurant was busy when we arrived. Very nice place, the layout and separate room from bar area was very nice. We were in the basement of the building I think. Clean too. When the waitress brought our food back out it was cooked perfect this time. The batter was light not heavy or greasy like some places I've had it. The fries were hand cut and very good. Definitely we would eat here again. They have a good menu to pick from too. I think I'd get the Monte Cristo again it was so good (The only thing is the raspberry jelly was like a jam very thick hard to eat with the sandwich so maybe because it was cold, maybe it heated would be a little easier to use. Our first time here was amazing. Clean and cozy spot for our lil date. Service was great and food was even better. I got the Monte Cristo with fries and it was all so good. The fries were very tasty and the Monte Cristo had the tastiest batter fried on the outside of the Virginia ham. I would totally recommend it. We also got the turkey, apple and Brie sandwich which was also good but just not as good as the Monte Cristo. The MC had a raspberry dip which was a nice addition and the turkey, apple and Brie came with a caramel dipping sauce which was good too. We got house chips with this sandwich and they were really good too. We got the kids Mac and cheese and it wasn't bad. My daughter ate it and she can be tough to please. We also ordered the deviled eggs which was not the best but since it was priced low we weren't disappointed that it was not as good as everything else we got. All in all I would recommend this spot and it's food. Service was great and the ambiance was too. We'll definitely be coming back when in town. read more

Well this was our second (and final) visit here. Our first experience was quite some time ago shortly after opening. We visited on Labor Day with family guests. When we arrived there were two tables seated outside and three tables inside. We waited at least 40 minutes to be seated. There was only one server working handling seating, orders, food delivery, payments and the bar. We waited another 30 minutes to place our order. It was a mess. Finally a man (bus boy, cook ??) started to help clear tables and deliver food. Several people had issues with their checks and there was a lot of frustration in the air. The food was delivered relatively quickly considering. Portions were large. Sadly, the French fries tasted like fish (shared oil?) so that was a disappointment. We will not try Brooks again - at least not in Tryon read more

My wife and I split a black and blue burger and a bowl of corn chowder. The burger was delicious. Chips on the side crispy. Chowder was great as well. Service was fantastic but it was a Sunday evening so hardly any people were there. The tavern was rustic and cool . Parking might be as issue but it seems it's bad everywhere in Tryon. Prices are reasonable compared to elsewhere. I don't see how they could have done better . We will certainly be back. read more

Worst meal experience ever! Waited forever for food--over an hour after order was given. Waitress only came to check on us once. Had to go inside to the register to get check--she was nowhere to be seen at our table outside. Several others got there after us, and got waited on immediately and served promptly. We've been here several times before and were always happy, so much so that we made a point of going back today for lunch when we were close by - but they have raised the prices or left them the same but removed the side item that sandwiches and burgers come with. This means a grilled chicken wrap was literally $17.95 BEFORE any side such as fries or chips is added, and there's not a wrap I've ever had that was worth that, including this one. We didn't realize the change until we were seated and had ordered something to drink, and by then we felt stuck - totally our quirk - but sadly this experience and the now crazy expensive menu will keep us from going back. read more

I truly believe Brooks Tavern here in Tryon has the BEST fish and chips in the area. I just had lunch there today. The service was excellent and the chef did an awesome job. I got the large portion and it was no joke. The batter used was DELISH! I ended up taking half home but totally could have scarfed the whole platter down right then and there but controlled myself. It was amazing. I usually order their fish n chips but this time got their Brooks sirloin sandwich with chips. The absolute best sandwiche I have had in a long time. The sirloin was perfectly cooked with melted cheese and sauce at just the right combination. The flavor explodes in your mouth. I wasn't that hungry but it was so good that I wanted more. Look, I dont mind paying for good food, but nothing justifies 5 wings for over $12, burgers and fries and sandwiches for over $16 with NO fries. An average cobb salad with NO protein $16. (add $7 for chicken). But we gave it a try anyway and xpecting NY quality at NY prices. And it completely failed!! The fish in the fish and chips was soggy and chewey. It tasted worse than breaded frozen fish from the supermarket. Burgers sucked. Salad nothing special, not fresh. They then upcharge for all kinds of stuff (share a plate, order a small order from kids menu, all drumsticks or flat wings, pay with CC). This is a nickle and dime operation. They don't allow small emotional support dogs. The food used to be great and my sister and I brought our small dogs. My sister has a stroller and they are covered. They don't make a sound and when people saw them. They wanted to say hello and ask if they could pet them. It's great for this drama that we have been through recently! We had fried mushrooms and fried green beans for appetizers. Both were fresh and delicious. Great choices. Three of us ordered fish and chips. A great choice. The smash burger was delicious according to my husband and my granddaughter did her best to eat her Brooks Burger. Mom had fried shrimp and raved over them. Our servers name was "Cornbread" and we enjoyed her so much. She was attentive and personable and a great fit for us. The room we were in was so comfortable. Great ambiance! Great experience at Brooks Tavern in Tryon. I was immediately impressed by the cool, relaxed, and dimly lit bar area so we chose to enjoy our lunch there. We were immediately acknowledged and ordered a local beer from their modest but diverse selection of drafts. We ordered burgers in two different varieties and were very pleased with the quality. Little details like a toasted bun add a lot. The service from everyone we encountered was quick and friendly. My wife and I visited the new Brooks Tavern in Tryon NC twice, first time was during their soft opening and second on their grand opening day. Great location, bar ambiance, and as busy as you would expect opening week. We had the Jalapeño Poppers which were great - perfectly prepared and served. The Hi-Wire Lager beer was very smooth and will order again. We also tried their $12.95 "Signature" cocktails: The Blue Ridge Parkway, Giggle Water, and The Brooks. They were unique but fell well short our our expectations. I would of preferred a splash of fruit juice vs the "splash" of liquor (if any) they served in their "Signature" cocktail that we received. Im sure a tad refining in weeks to come will result in the new "Cheers" Tavern in Tryon. read more

My wife and I went on a Monday...were seated fairly quick, receiv menus that were well used, torn. We ordered a fish sandwich and house salad with fried chicken strips. Fish sandwich was served with no tartar sauce, seafood sauce, just bare fish. Fish was well overcooked and not good. Served with fries that were oily.. House salad with chicken fingers was good. Chicken was spicy And lettuce was shredded but probably works in other types of salads. Took 15 minutes to get the check alth the place was almost empty. Not many restaurants in Tryon and we were disappointed this is another that if they don't improve, will be gone. I sure hope they improve. Owner should go to Hare & Hound and try their fried fish. read more
