I almost drove past this little place. It's right next to a gas station, with its own parking lot. Entrance is on the West side. The interior is cheery and colorful, much like a Mexican patio. Lighting is on the dim side. It's a comfy place. I noticed right away that the posted hours are now 7am to 4pm. That eliminates dinner hours, which I find odd. I came in at 2:45pm on a Saturday and there were three other tables of customers. I sat at a table for two since I came in Sola. No one was in the bar area. Music was playing faintly in the background. I ordered iced tea and a green chicken enchilada platter, which arrived hot and fast on a heavy porcelain plate. Absolutely the best Mexican food in Douglas so authentic and large portions on Thursday I ate there for lunch with the Chimichanga with red sauce and shredded beef and refried beans n rice so filling I could only eat a salad at my hotel. Today Friday I went early for breakfast and had the Eggs and green chiles and refried beans and buttered toast and Americano Coffee so filling I passed up on lunch. The service both days was excellent fast time under 10 minutes both days to have the food on the table. Busy both days but still not full great parking lot and also more parking on both streets as it sits on a corner lot very easy to find!!! Not noisy at all colorful inside and out highly recommend giving it a try. Here for two more days so I'm sure I'll be back again!!! read more

This is great Mexican food, I've been here about 6 times or so over the years, but don't look at that number and assume the worst, this is like 300 miles from my house. But when I do visit, this is where I like to eat. Now, hub always gets a burrito. He's tried different ones, but he's really been happy with them, they are huge and filling. I'm always trying something new. Just an old habit of mine. I like to see what meals and combos I can try. But a funny (to me) story, is the day I saw the salt, pepper, and spices. I sprinkled some of the spices in my hand to try, and my face was on fire!! Our friend said, you and I love spices, this can't be that hot. So he took some and ate it too. Best place to eat in Douglas for sure! Skip breakfast and bring an appetite big enough to indulge in the Bobbie Burrito! Best burrito anywhere with all of my favorite things and I don't have to ask them to hold anything! The Bobbie is stuffed with chicken, perfectly sized chunks of tender steak, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, guacamole AND green Chilies! It is so tender and flavorful it melts in your mouth. I indulge whenever I'm in Douglas for work. Unfortunately I've never strayed from ordering the Bobbie so I can't speak to the other items. However, I am witness to some delicious looking soups which change daily. The chips, RF beans and salsa all top in flavor. Don't miss this restaurant. These ladies do it right! I'll give credit here to the polite and prompt wait staff and cashier. And also the cleanliness and decor of the restaurant. If I were rating on the food alone I would have left 2 stars for the tacos I had. There was very little shredded beef in them, they were barely crunchy in some spots (see picture), not seasoned well, rice & beans were bland. They do have some redeeming items on the menu though. The Bobby burrito is one to try. Most of their food tends to be spicy, but I like my Mexican food that way. Give them a try... but not if you're in the mood for tacos dorados- go to The Grand Cafe or La Fiesta for your crunchy taco fix! Their seating is a bit uncomfortable also. :-/ read more

You can taste the freshness of the vegetables in the Ranchero salsa in every bite! They make both red and white menudo in which they serve in a big bowl and served with buttered bread. Every time I go down to Douglas, I try and stop at El Chef. Their menudo is top notch! I always go for the white kind because...well...it's delicious! It comes with toasted buttered pan birote and a dish of all the fixings. Service is ok for a small town, nothing to write home about, but the staff is always friendly. My son doesn't like menudo and he'll order a burrito with fries. Being a typical mom, I have to sample my kids food. It was really good. I don't think I've ever eaten food here that didn't taste good. If you ever find yourself in Douglas, make sure that you spot in a have a bowl of menudo! read more

When I brought it up to management the owner's daughter told me that it was fresh guacamole from this morning and that's just how it is and that the red chili was not burnt. This spot has great food, but has some customer service issues. I've attempted to eat here a total of four times and have only been able to actually get an order placed two of those times. The first time I ordered to go from here I was told the food would be ready in 25 minutes, so I waited that amount of time and then went to the restaurant to pick up my order. They had my iced coffee drinks ready and said your food will be out in a moment... 15 minutes later my food was still not ready, and then the customer service staff at the front asked me to take my semi-melted iced drinks out to the car as they were in the way of other customers paying their bill (I had left the drinks where they set them) I said depending on how much longer the food takes I might need new drinks as the ice had been melting and watering down the flavor. The food took another 10 minutes. Tasted great, but customers need to be informed of a realistic wait time and iced drinks should not be given to the customer 25 minutes before the food was ready. 2nd visit was mostly positive, and they forgot the tortillas for my wife's order but otherwise good. The past two attempts at ordering online were met with a stonewall as they have not answered their phone despite numerous call attempts, I myself am an at risk individual and try not to go into the restaurants to order... Overall if you're able to dine in I think this would be a great spot as the food is very tasty, but if you're ordering via telephone be aware they are very difficult to get on the line. read more

El Chef is my favorite because the food is good and it makes me feel like something my mother would cook with love. This place is family owned and operated and I like that every single time I go to El Chef I am greeted in a friendly manner. The whole dinning experience is enjoyable and I feel appreciated. My favorite dish is the carne asada chimichanga "enchilada style" with a chile relleno. The restaurant is decorated in typical Mexican style and it is very clean. Probably the best Mexican food I've had this year and I live in Tucson! Where do I start. The salsa was amazing, the Bobby burrito was phenomenal and our waitress suggested the combo plate so got our rice and beans that way. Delicious all. Still awesome, still authentic and prices are under $10 for your meal. So this is a place I frequent when I'm working out at the cochise college flight line. They have 5 star food, the entire menu is great and simple. The salsa that comes with the chips is tasty, probably 4 out of 10 on the hot scale. You can request hotter which is about 7 out of 10 for heat. I typically get the asada tacos, it is the perfect amount of rice, beans and taco to fill me up. Other greatness would be the burritos. Come with a big appetite because they will send you home with a dog bag if you don't. This is a staple in the Douglas community, the Sheriff, Local PD and Border Patrol frequent this place, as well as all us workers looking for a awesome meal! They are always sweet and friendly, which makes for a 5 star experience. read more

The best chilli rellenos I have ever had in a restaurant! My hubby said he loved the Carne asada burrito in red sauce as well. The people are very friendly and take good care of you. The prices are about $10 a plate but the portions are generous. The restaurant is colorful and very clean. The restroom was well stocked and clean. They even have a little area they sell pottery, if your interested. We will eat here every time we come to Douglas! read more
