This was the worst bottomless brunch ever. We walk in the door and are instantly hit with a foul smell. It was like a combination of cow manure and feet. We should have left then. The drinks....disgusting. The margarita tasted like rubbing alcohol, water and lime. The mimosa tasted like flat sparkling wine and watery orange juice. I came here with 4 friends for brunch on a Sunday. We'd made reservations earlier that week for 1 PM, but arrived super early and were able to be seated shortly after 12:30, after a few minutes' wait up front. The restaurant was pretty busy the whole time we were there, which was not surprising given it was a Sunday and peak lunch/brunch time. Our server was friendly and explained the menu and bottomless brunch to us. Everyone at the table has to do bottomless brunch if you go for that. Since half of us weren't drinking, 1 of us was vegan, and the bottomless brunch didn't include guacamole or any of the other shared appetizers, we ultimately decided to go à la carte. This wound up being the more economical option in the end. We were served complimentary chips and salsa, which were super addictive. The chips even came out warm. It was very tempting to just fill up on the chips alone. We ordered guacamole for the table, for which you can personalize the heat level. The server brought it out and mashed it up in front of us, which was fun. It was a pretty good amount of guac for 5 people, and I'd highly recommend ordering it. Three of us got margaritas, which could be served with or without salt, and either on the rocks or frozen. I got the pork carnitas tacos for my mains. These came as a trio and were served with refried beans and rice on the side. I don't generally like refried beans and that was the case here as well, but the rice was very tasty and had a bit of chopped vegetables mixed in. The carnitas were really delicious, flavorful, and tender. They did tend to drip juice out the side of the taco, so don't expect to look dignified when eating them. Two of my friends got quesadilla starters as mains, and they seemed to be sufficient especially since we'd packed away so many chips at the start of the meal. For dessert, I ordered the churros. The server said the dessert came with 4 or 5 churros, but mine actually came with 6. They weren't overly sweet, and they were served with a trio of dipping sauces. I definitely favored the chocolate, although I tried each of the other 2 (caramel and passion fruit) at least once. I technically shared this dessert with 1 other person, although she only had 1 churro and I had the other 5 haha. The churros were very airy and crisp; definitely order them if you're not too full by the end of the meal! As a side note, some restaurants are better at accommodating dietary restrictions than others, and I honestly wouldn't recommend taking your vegan friend to El Centro. Other than the chips, salsa, guac, and alcohol, it looked like the only vegan-friendly thing on the menu was the tomato & cucumber salad. My vegan friend ordered this and the nopal tacos, minus the cheese. It didn't seem super economical, since her meal wound up being more expensive than some of the meat-containing meals even. I don't really fault the restaurant since it's hard to make some of the dishes vegan-friendly (e.g. I can't imagine a quesadilla without cheese, just based on structural integrity alone without even thinking about flavor, although the server did dubiously suggest this as an option). But just something to keep in mind if you do have vegan friends. My tacos, churros, and 1/5 share of the guacamole came out to be about $30 after tax and 20% tip. (The total bill pre-tip but post-tax was about $125, and included 2 orders of carnitas tacos, 1 order of steak quesadillas, 1 order of chicken quesadillas, 1 order of nopal tacos, a salad, 1 order of churros, guacamole for the table, and 3 margaritas.) I felt this was pretty normal for DC. I really enjoyed having brunch here and would definitely come back. There are 2 unisex restrooms on the ground floor (I never saw the 2nd floor); you might have to wait around for them if the place is busy. read more

Worst brunch experience of all time. We went to El Centro in Georgetown today for Father's day and could not have been more disappointed. We had no choice but to order the bottomless brunch option, which is more of a multi-course meal. They basically bring you everything on the menu and were very disorganized when/if you asked for more of something. In my opinion it was a huge waste of food because you couldn't pick what you wanted, so they brought us food that no one wanted or ate. To top it all off, we were overcharged! Charged for alcohol that no one ordered. I used to like this place but the food was terrible and the service was underwhelming. Please save your money. El Centro is a great lunch/ dinner spot! Their margaritas are some of the most delicious I've ever had. Next time I really want to get a pitcher because one just wasn't enough. They also have a lot of creative margaritas that I will try next time I'm in. I just go the classic on the rocks so I can only imagine how great the inventive ones are. The food here is decent but the service was absolutely horrible. I enjoy el centros happy hour specials, especially 2$ taco Tuesday. That's a good deal for the quality of food and price! But their full priced menu is not worth the money. Service: I came on 1/8/19 and had the worst service ever. At first, it was okay. We ordered and got our food promptly. But then the other two people in my group joined. It took forever to get the waiter to come by and take our order. Once he took our order, he brought out the wrong amount of food. My friend had CLEARLY ordered 3 beef tacos, one fish taco and I ordered 1 beef taco. But we were given 3 beef tacos and 4 fish tacos! That's not even the right number of tacos. Mistakes happen, so that wasn't a big deal until I politely told the waiter he had made a mistake. He started to get aggressive and clearly wasn't going to admit his mistake. So we felt forced to keep the incorrect food. It was a horrible experience, getting yelled at by our waiter who had been providing us with horrible service. To make things worse, I had to go up and ask for our bill because he never came by on his own. It took 10 minutes to receive the bill. I promptly gave him the bill back but he got sidetracked and misplaced the check. I had to go up AGAIN and ask him where my card was. When I called over to him, he was slowly putting his receipts in a cup and ignored me when I first requested him to ring up our bill. He looked all over the place for my credit card, which he had misplaced, and took ages to find it. When he finally found it, he was about to swipe the card but then a customer called over to him. He immediately turned around and got them what they needed. I don't understand why he couldn't tell them to hold on a second while he finished his task. That's what I used to do as a waitress. Getting sidetracked by everything is so inefficient!! After he addressed a customer who cut in front of me, he finally got me my check. That was a 20 minute process!! Also while I was at the bar, I noticed he cheated some customers. They paid him 40$ for a 33$ bill and he only gave them 3$ back. When they asked him where the rest of their change was, he pretended to be ignorant. Luckily, they were very understanding and said it could count as his tip. Always 5 stars for El Centro! I was crushed to learn that the 14th Street location had closed permanently, but we'll always have the Georgetown one. The food is always solid -- hot, fresh, and flavorful. The same goes for the drinks, which are average in cost for the D.C. area. Obviously, we're still in the pandemic, and I was pleased to see El Centro taking so many precautions to keep limited indoor dining safe. Tables seemed to actually be more than 6' apart, which was great, menu is a QR code, and hand sanitizer and social distance floor markers are readily available. We ate here last night Nov 7th, as a celebration of concluding college tours at Howard University. We arrive and are seated promptly. Our server Renee, takes our food and drinks order, which came 15 minutes later. We were given chips and salsa. An hour later we flag Renee down and before I can open my mouth to speak, he asks me if I want the check... !!! Uhm Renee honey, we haven't eaten!!! So we go back and forth, and finally Renee apologizes and admits he forgot to put our order in at all! Finally, a manager steps in, takes the order again, and we wait 20 more minutes. By the time the food is brought to the table, the enchiladas were slapped together quickly and lacked flavor and presentation, the cheese quesadillas were ok, and the shrimp tacos were a 6 out of 10. I'm curious if our food was brought out normally, like everyone else, if it would've tasted different. We all were starving by then and ate it. Management did bring out churros free of charge for the "inconvenience." This place has a neighborhood feel and the potential to be great. Several problems need to be addressed: 1- ensure servers put food orders in promptly. 2-servers need to check on tables at least in 15 minute increments. 3-If servers are switched at a table, introduce yourself and check on the table immediately. 4-if a diner's food order is not entered, management should have AT LEAST comped a portion of the meal, versus bringing out churros.. The hostess told us there were no available tables and the several empty tables around us were all reserved. My friend and I decided to try El Centro on a busy Saturday afternoon after being told the waits at other restaurants in the area would be 45 minutes or longer. They were definitely busy but were able to squeeze us in because it was just the two of us, so definitely a good spot to go without a reservation when you're a smaller group. My preferred El Centro (the one on H street) was booked so I made a reservation in Georgetown for 2pm brunch on Saturday. I wish I could give them a 3.5, but this 3 will have to do. My party of 5 arrived a few minutes before our 2pm reservation and were lead upstairs to our seats immediately -- got to love on time seating! The place was pretty crowded, definitely alot of local brunchers and bar goers enjoying the day. The bar TV's were showing the premeire league game, which made for some great brunch TV. About five minutes after being seated a waitress hurriedly brought 5 empty water glasses over and assured us she'd be right back with water to fill them (LOL). A few minutes later she zipped by again and dropped off chips and assured us she'd be back to deliver salsa(Oh No..). A few minutes after that she came back with water but no salsa(Facepalm). She poured water and took our drink orders. A few minutes later, she returned with 2 of the 5 drinks we ordered and some salsa(....Huh). To keep this brief, it was almost 25-30 minutes since we had been seated before all 5 of us received water, chips + salsa, and our first round of bottomless drinks. An annoying way to start the brunch to say the least. As the place emptied out a bit, service greatly improved -- our waitress became friendly and attentive to our needs. She kept the mimosas, bloody marys, and margaritas coming. A rocky start, but strong recovery. The food, simply delicious. I recommend the steak or chicken tacos, the quesadillas, the el centro dog, and the churros. I had more of those dogs than I care to admit. The drinks are solid -- the mimosas definitely reign supreme. The margaritas taste fine but they aren't strong at all. All in all, for $40 all you can eat and drink, we got our money's worth and left El Centro fat and happy. I still prefer H street over this location due to the more consistent service and better parking options but I'd go back to Georgetown El Centro in a pinch. read more

Came here on the fly because I was in the mood for margaritas and Guapos on the waterfront had run out (go figure). Decided to head to the upstairs bar for food and drinks. Upon finding a seat I noticed the area in front of me was dirty from the previous patron. A bartender asked if I wanted water and set the water down right n the dirty counter. I just took it upon myself to wipe my area down with a few napkins. I ordered a half pitcher of the El Centro margarita and lamb tacos. This visit left much to be desired. My friend and I arrived here for the bottomless brunch at 1:55 for our 2:00pm reservation through Open Table. I selected indoor on my reservation preference and they originally placed us in their converted outdoor seating which was freezing. We had to ask to be reseated in the real indoor seating Service 2/5 After being seated, our waiter immediate took our drink order and then informed us that instead of us picking what we wanted in the bottomless brunch, that we would be served everything on the menu first and then we could order our individual preference. This seemed odd but fun. It took OVER 20 minutes to just receive the fruit cocktail which was maybe 10 small fruits and a bit of sorbet. Then it took an additional 10 minutes before our egg entrees came out. Then they continued to roll out our orders in batches of 3 menu items, maybe 15-20 minutes apart while refilling our mimosa orders, despite the fact that I requested to switch to the margarita twice but received the mimosa instead. I'd give the service 2/5 because (1) they initially seated us in their very cold converted outdoor seating instead of indoors like requested. (2) It took over 20 minutes to get our first small plate, despite us not putting in specific orders. (3) I asked for a margarita twice and was given a mimosa instead. (4) The roll out of the food was slow and the kitchen closes at 3:45pm, so basically it took over 90 minutes for me to discover I only liked 3 items (the same three items I already assumed I'd like) then by the time I wanted to reorder them the kitchen was closed. The only upside is that the waiter was great at refilling the mimosa glasses so they never stayed empty for long. 3/5 Bottomless drinks: Only received the mimosas despite asking for the margarita. Mimosas tasted more like orange juice than champagne but that's normal with bottomless options. Speedy service to refill drinks. Food 2.5/5 4/5: Fruit cocktail was about as good as fresh pineapple and sorbet together will taste. It was good but not special. 2/5: All Egg dishes (Huevos rancheros, fried egg, breakfast enchiladas): They all arrived at the same time and were slightly cold, and lacked salt. I didn't enjoy any of them enough to reorder them. 2/5 Chilaquiles Rojas: Lacked salt and didn't taste special or good enough to reorder 3/5 Tacos: The Chicken Tinga tacos were under seasoned and underwhelming, also slightly cold. The carnitas taco was alright, but I've definitely had better. The steak taco was delicious with the additional lime spritzed on it. The only one I would reorder was the steak taco. 4/5 Sweets: Plantain was delicious, a little oily though but the cream Fresca really complimented it. The churros were delicious. It's really unfortunate that it took 90 minutes for me to realize I only liked the steak tacos, churros, and fruit cocktail because I was only able to get one additional churro before the kitchen closed because of their method of slowly rolling out each menu item instead of just having us place our original orders at first. I'd actually give this place a 2.5 because of the endless mimosa service. But because of the lack of flavor in the food and overall just okay service, I wouldn't recommend this spot unless you and you're friends just wanted a last minute brunch option and didn't want to cook at home. I had made brunch reservations for a party of 8 on Cinco de Mayo. This wasn't my first brunch at El Centro, but the first time was a couple of years ago. We opted for the bottomless brunch since price wise it was a better deal. Unfortunately the options are just meh. Honestly the quesadillas and a couple of tacos were the only food items I enjoyed, everything else was sloppy and haphazardly made. Even the benedict, the egg was clearly boiled and not poached, on top of that the egg was so overdone that the yolk was grey. The salsa and guac took forever to come out, literally towards the end of the meal. Drinks wise, great options...however every drink is extremely watered down. The michelada, pure tomato juice and the mimosa is straight up orange juice. Quality definitely seems to have gone down since the last time I was at El Centro and honestly I left more bloated than buzzed. Being in your twenties every birthday needs to be celebrated out in the city. You want your birthday to be full of life, people, good food, and excitement. El Centro delivered in a big way. We went here for my best friend's 23rd birthday and were instantly greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere of people in their early 30 and mid to late twenties. The place was packed from the first floor to the second. Our waiter was extremely friendly and cute to boot! We each ordered their famous tacos. I ordered lamb and my friend and the birthday girl each ordered chicken. They were served with refried beans, salsa verde and yellow rice. The beans were very authentic, just as how I had them when I went to Guatemala and the salsa was exquisite. The rice was pretty standard. However, the tacos were phenomenal. The lamb was perfectly cooked and succulent. We also ordered spicy mango magaritas on the rocks. These were pretty darn good too, they even had spicy sugar on the rim which was an amazing touch! The place made my best friend's birthday extremely special with surprising us with some special birthday shots and their signature churros with a candle. The waiter even facilitated singing happy birthday. It was honestly one of my best friend's best birthdays to date! As we were finishing dinner they were getting ready to set up the dance floor and as we were leaving there were already people lining up to get in for the late night festivities. Finally tried El Centro during this year's Restaurant Week. I'm a Mexican food fanatic, so I was long overdue for trying their food. I picked up takeout dinner for $35 and got chips with guacamole, chicken fajitas, and tres leches. The guacamole was your typical guac, tasted fresh and it's a decent portion. Can't go wrong. The tres leches was perfect, super moist and sweet. Unfortunately, the fajitas didn't live up to the appetizer or the dessert. The chicken was overcooked and very dry, and the sauce on it didn't have any flavor or heat. It also only comes with two tortillas that won't accommodate all of the fillings, no matter how much you stuff them. It was a decent meal otherwise--if you go, I recommend opting for a different entree. read more

We ordered various margaritas, unfortunately my watermelon/cucumber cocktail lacked flavor. Others seemed pleased with their drinks. However, the star of the night was the food. The traditional guacamole, crispy shrimp tacos, and grilled shrimp fajitas had layers of flavor to tantalize your taste buds. Their guacamole had the perfect texture and tasted better than Rosa Mexicano's! After dinner we requested small plates for our cupcakes. The server gingerly informed us that it would be a $2 charge/pp to eat the cupcakes. My friends sought clarification from the manager and he explained the charge is to cover dishwasher costs. However, we could consume our cupcakes for free if we don't require plates & utensils. We continued celebrating and the crew sung happy birthday to me. Went on a Thursday, parking wasn't an issue since we went kayaking first by the potomac and rode our bike there. Wasn't too busy, plenty of seating but we opted for bar seating. Our mission was to try the lunch specials but ended up splitting the steak and shrimp fajita with a friend. This meal was the perfect size for the both of us. It came with carne asada, shrimp, guac, rice, sour cream, pico de gallo, beans, and flour tortillas. Individually I felt like the shrimp and steak needed a little something, maybe more garlic? Shrimp more spicy? I'm not sure, but when combining all the ingredients together in a little baby fajita burrito it was PERFECT. The flour tortilla itself had a subtle flavor, didn't overpower the filling but just a little hint to bring everything together. I love beans and they were cooked just right, not too watery, didn't taste old or burnt. The guac was really good too. My only recommendation is order more flour tortillas - 4 wasn't enough for us. Came here for a casual brunch on a Saturday afternoon. Got seated promptly (had a reservation), but the waitress was pretty slow to come around. Overall, a lot of young people up on the patio enjoying the bottomless brunch and it was a lively atmosphere. Shared a pitcher of the El Centro margarita, it was alright, but the mojito was really delicious. Ordered the chicken flautas and they were perfectly crispy and flavorful. Come for the drinks, not the food. For $35 bottomless food and drinks is an amazing deal but the food was just not good. We were seated almost immediately as we walked in on a crowded Saturday since we had a reservation. They have quite a few drink options for the $35 price but our favorite was the mimosa. The tacos were sooooo salty and unedible. Actually, now that I think about it, everything was pretty salty. The churros were the only good thing about the food. The service was pretty fast but beware that when you order you're getting snack size amount of food so if you're hungry you're going to want to order a lot at the same time. Overall, the location is great since it's in the heart of Georgetown, but the experience was so-so. read more

Amazing staff, great food for brunch. They had limited drinks due to Covid but overall would come back again! After leaving a bad review due to drink issue, they called me and explained what happened and apologized. They obviously go above and beyond for their customers.
