Stopped in for lunch after seeing such good reviews and glad I did. Ever since I heard of espagueti verde and have been wanting to try it and the only restaurant that I found had it on their menu had just rotated it off the menu but here comes El Catrin to the rescue with their Pasta Verde. So of course, I order the Paster Verde and add shrimp. While waiting for my dish I decide to order a Chispa on the rocks (think of a skinny margarita) since I didn't have to go back to work. The drink is well made and strong. When my pasta comes out it is plated well and garnished with half cut cherry tomatoes. The green sauce is a creamy poblano sauce that definitely provides a different flavor profile than traditional tomato-based sauces but it's a nice change and it pairs really well with the grilled shrimp. The cherry tomatoes are a nice touch. Overall, I really enjoyed the staff, food and drinks at El Catrin and I look forward to coming back and trying their breakfast menu. read more

At first, I was ready to walk out the door. There were open tables and servers rushing by, and as soon as you walk in, you are met with a sign saying "please wait to be seated" in your face, but with no hostess stand and literally nowhere to wait. We stood there a couple minutes before anyone spoke to us. However, we were given a table eventually. After this, the service improved. I had the pollo cilantro, and it was DELICIOUS. My husband enjoyed the enchilada trio but said the mole was the best part. My sons enjoyed the Al pastor tacos. Food was good, service okay. The one thing is- they charge $4.50 for a CAN of coke. My husband and I dined in for lunch. This is our second time visiting in the last 6 months. The restaurant was not crowded, it was quiet and clean. We were greeted right away by Gerardo and given a table near the bar. We enjoyed their chips and salsa with a Chispa. Their chips are light and not salty which I like they gave us two different salsa. One was a creamy green salsa. It was very good and had a little bit of a bite to it and the regular orange salsa that they serve that had a very nice flavor. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with poblano sauce and they were extremely good. My chicken was very tender and seasoned well rolled into soft corn tortillas and topped with a green poblano sauce. It was so tasty. The refried beans are very good and their Mexican rice is fluffy and flavorful and reminded me of my mother's. I highly recommend them. Everything was so delectable. read more

My last review praised the pozole rojo at El Catrin. Now, after my second visit, my pozole was terrible. It was served lukewarm. The pork pieces were chunky and too tough, obviously not cooked long enough. They charged extra for the garnishments such as radishes, cabbage and cilantro. No tostada. Very disappointed!!! Food was good, service was pretty bad. My food was room temperature and it took a while to get someone's attention to send it back. I even made eye contact with who I think is the owner and tried to wave him over. I finally asked a waiter from another table to help. I waited quite a while for a replacement plate. Once I got it, it was very good. I was disappointed though that no one said a word about it to me. No "sorry about that", nada. In fact, we didn't even get a thank you before leaving. I took my mom for an early lunch on a Friday. It was pretty chill with 80's music playing. Our waiter was very nice and bilingual. We both had soup - I had pozole and my mom had the chicken tortilla soup. We both enjoyed our soups and the presentation was beautiful - as you can see from the pictures. All of the ingredients were fresh and the soup itself wasn't greasy which I appreciated because of my sensitive stomach. We also quite enjoyed the salsa and chips. I've only been here for breakfast so I can't speak to their lunch/ dinner menu, although I plan to try that out soon just to see if it's any better. For breakfast, the food is pretty average. On my most recent visit I had the huevos divorciados. Quick highlights: - The potatoes were bland and lacked seasoning - The red salsa made up for the missing flavor and saved the dish - The side of beef fajita meat I added was really good - I asked the waiter if the coffee was cafe de olla, was told yes so I ordered it, but it definitely wasn't My main complaint is their chilaquiles don't include egg, which most places do. You have to pay an extra $3. Also no meat. I'd prefer the cost of eggs be worked into the dish and automatically included. But that's just my preference. I do have to give them kudos for the great service and very clean looking restaurant. This makes me want to keep trying them to see if maybe I find that one dish that really wows me. read more

My friend had the Enchilada Trio and it was very good, the Chipotle one being her favorite. I had the Pescado Al Ajillo (Sea Bass with buttery garlic sauce and gajillo peppers). The fish was very tender and the roasted pepper flakes provided a sweet and tart flavor. Service was good. This is a great spot for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Nice atmosphere with great service. The food quality is great with nice fresh ingredients. I started with the Chicken Tortilla soup and man was it good! It had tons of shredded chicken breast meat and you had the cheese, avocado and strips on the side so you can add at your leisure. It was a lot though, so make sure you don't over order on your other food as you'll get full quick! I wish they had it as a cup option which would have been the perfect option. I have had the Enchilada Trio which was filled with Chicken and covered in Chipotle, Mole and Poblano sauces. My favorite enchilada sauce is mole and they do this well here. Everyone loved the salsa. It was delicious. Not too spicy. I ordered an appetizer a nopalitos. It didn't come out until my meal came out, but that was OK since we had the queso. I tried the Chilaquiles divorciados. If you want to add protein, you have the option for a charge. My favorite was a green salsa. The beans that came with the dish were good as well. I had a margarita. I thought it was too sweet. My friend had the mango margarita. She enjoyed hers. Our waiter was very nice, but he disappeared, and we couldn't find him. The servers were attentive and friendly. but im here to talk about the food. I had the Enchiladas Trio filled with chicken with 3 sauces Chipotle, Mole, and Poblano topped with crema and cheese served with Mexican rice and beans. Those who know me (wife) will tell you, the first thing I do is try the Mole sauce. If it doesn't have just the right amount of sweetness along with spiciness then its a no go. Today did not disappoint, rich creamy with the right sweet to spice ratio. All 3 of the sauces were on point but I LOVE Mole. You must come out and try. The salsa provided for free with the chips is very good and not too spicy. I ordered the shrimp/fish tacos and I was very satisfied. We did order a side or flour tortillas because ya gotta see what they are working with. Not sure if they are made in house but where they source them from aren't too bad. The sangria is pretty good. Here you will find authentic Mexican dishes accompanied with great service! Carlos, the bartender is the BEST! I've tried the Sopes and they are SO deliciously soft and flavorful. The aguachiles are SPICY but if you're a glutton for punishment like me, you're in for a treat! The beans are so good and you should enjoyed them with the scrumptious chilaquiles. The Tlalpeño soup is so good but so are the red enchiladas! I've tried quite a few dishes but there is so much more to try and I can't wait to go back! This place was so good, we came twice in one weekend. It's perfectly near the highway on the way to the hill country and we stopped for breakfast. Everyone got chilaquiles at the table, and they did not disappoint. The green sauce wasn't too bitter, and the red had a little bit of a kick. The combination of the two (divorciados) was perfect!
