I live right on top of a 'Mexican' restaurant and every time I go there it's due to sheer…read moredesperation for lack of good Mexican food in CNY. Every time I lament the fact I spent money to eat there... I had read that this was a good one on the 'Where Syracuse Eats' Facebook page, which can be a pit of snakes at times. I decided to bookmark it, as a 'just in case' I was ever passing through Waterloo. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical when my mom and I walked in around 5:30-5:45 p.m. and not a soul was in the place. Apparently, people in Waterloo eat dinner around 6 p.m. so the place was popping as we were eating and then leaving. My mom is a vegetarian so we shared the vegetarian combo D plate. I ate the tostaguac and she had the enchilada, and we shared the rice. I normally find the rice at Mexican restaurants to be underwhelming, even at my favorite spot in Detroit. This was delicious and I ate it! (There may have been some debate on who should get the last few bites of rice!) I also ordered a side of their hot salsa. I think this was $2 but it was so good and so worth it. The regular salsa was fine but not spicy at all. Service was fast once we decided what to order. No pictures because I was too excited by an actual Mexican place within a reasonable distance from me! Skip the places in Syracuse and come to La Fiesta Brava!

Worst experience I've ever had. Seated given store bought chips and salsa and forgot about. No one…read morecame back to ask for a drink order or anything. We waited for over 20 minutes before we left. To their defense, they were totally overwhelmed. should've been their biggest moneymaker of the year Cinco de Mayo and they failed miserably. I'll never go back there. Was never really impressed with their food anyways this is no shape or form of authentic Mexican food. The ambience has much to be desired as well. It was a filthy dump.

But now I'm a bit of a Mexican Food SNOB. So I was a little hesitant to try a Mexican place in New York.... But my husband needed a TACO in his life that day and so we stopped in at Monterey's for dinner. First off if you are visiting the Palmyra - Manchester - Newark area and are from the Utah - Arizona - Idaho area YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!! The manager sold me on the current special of the Pinapple Fajitas which included chicken, steak, shrimp, and chorizo (or as they called it Mexican Sausage). It was served in a pineapple! It was off the hook amazing!!! We also got a serving of white queso cheese dip which was so good and was given to us on the house. The salsa was made fresh which you could totally taste and tell. Everything was fresh and brought out hot! My husband got a combo plate with a taco, enchilada and a chalupa. He cleaned the plate and could have had more. It was great food and reasonablly priced. We will stop in next time we are in the area.

Got seated and I ordered a medium House Margarita and my partner order the Ultimate Margarita. Well, they brought us those drinks in huge, tall plastic cups and they were large which wasnt what we ordered. Then, we sat there waiting for someone to take our order. All of the servers are very hard to understand. Finally got our food, which was good, but then we had the long wait again for containers and our bill. OH, the BILL! We ordered 2 menu items, a 15.99 and a 13.99 plus the 2 Margaritas and it came to 73.40! WHAT? That made those 2 drinks be like 20 a piece. I reached out to this restaurant to ask what the price of those drinks were that night and they only asked if I had the receipt. They have refused to tell me the price. Needless to say, we will not being eating there anymore. I heard there is a better place in the next town.

I had the chille poblanos, the portion was big, the chilles were nicely spiced, filled with cheese, covered in a tasty sauce. It came with yellow rice, refried beans and warm tortillas. I was there on a Saturday lunch and I was surprised there were not many people in. Its inside an older hotel, so maybe people dont realize its there. But, its definetly worth it.

Friends invited my wife and I out to El Mezquite over the weekend, so we gave them a shot. First off, did not realize until we got there that the place in inside of a hotel, so that was an interesting discovery. We were sat immediately, given menus, had our order taken & food brought to us in a timely fashion. My wife ordered chile relleno while I ordered tacos de diablas - three tacos with steak, chorizo, and a spicy red sauce. Most of my party was happy with their food. Mine was fine, although the meat was a bit rubbery and the red sauce wasn't very spicy, but I suppose my problem with El Mezquite is the same as most of the Mexican restaurants in the same area - I'm convinced they all just order the exact same stuff from the same place. El Mezquite's menu is the exact same as most other Mexican restaurants in the area, same offerings, even the rice tastes exactly the same in all these places, so I'm becoming less and less convinced there's any authenticity for most of the places in CNY. That said, the food was fine, our service was fine as well, but I don't believe we'd return for the simple fact that we can find the exact same dishes at other, closer establishments.

Last summer, the dining room was so hot that people took their dishes outdoor to the picnic tables to eat. Tres Primos has good food and lots of it so it's often very crowded at dinner time. We were fortunate to have come for an early dinner and were the only diners on a snowy day. Service is with a smile and the people that work here seem to enjoy each other's company and enjoy serving customers. The tables and chairs are the best, colorful with beautiful depictions of Mexico. For whatever you order, be prepared to have it served on a platter that's fit for a king, or in my case queen. Food is good and fresh. There is plenty to drink, including a variety of beers and cocktails . There's nothing like drinking a corona to top off a Mexican meal. I ordered what is really a sampler plate with a little bit of everything. I had a Chalupa, a quesadilla, tacos, and a member of other things. Of course, this comes complete with rice and beans. Needless to say, I had a second meal with the leftovers the following night. P.S., they have very good salsa that is served as soon as you were seated with your chips. Don't be afraid to ask for a refill.

It was a pleasure to have met them both. I am unsure how I have survived this long without dining at Tres Primos.
