Excellent Tex-Mex. I frequent this establishment often. Poblano Fajitas (beef) are excellent and my new favorite dish. Tacos al carbon, cheese enchiladas, and pork carnitas are among our family favorites. Huge portions. I love the rice and beans. Ask for the salsa verde. Blanco chile con queso is another favorite served with pickled jalapeños and carrots. Come hungry!! read more

The El Bosque location on Hwy 105 east of McCaleb Rd is so bad compared to the other locations around Conroe/Montgomery area. The location near I45 is very good (especially their breakfast buffet), as well as the newer location in Montgomery @ 105 & 149. This was the 3rd time we've been here and it will be the last. I'll start with Pros (few that there are): service was very good, friendly & attentive; got our orders right, refilled chips & salsas & iced tea glasses promptly. The corn tortillas were homemade; soft & good. Tortilla chips were served warm and the red & green salsas were very tasty; flavorful without being over powering with heat. The Cons: I ordered Carne Guisada, which came with guacamole, rice & beans but the Carne Guisada was nothing like I've eaten in the past. Carne Guisada traditionally is seasoned tender chucks of beef that were simmered in a thick flavorful brown gravy (made with a roux of flour, pan drippings & a liquid). This Guisada had cubed beef chucks with potatoes & carrots in a thin red sauce which had zero seasoning. Poorly prepared Tex-Mex beef stew? The beef was tough & not even a little tender. Someone needs to introduce their cook to garlic, cominos, Cilantro & salt (to name a few seasonings undetectable in the dish). I had to douse the meat in salsa just to make it palatable. My husband ordered chicken fajitas for one. He said the fajitas were over cooked, tough & also lacked seasoning. The meal was a huge disappointment and a fourth time won't be a charm for us. We have loved this place for a long time and always had a great experience but the last 2 visits hace been poor. Service has really gone down in recent months. None of the waiters seem interested with customer service anymore. You have to ask for a someone to take your order, remind them to come back and have decided fajitas no longer are served on hot plates. So sad to see them go down in quality. Food was good, but there were a few issues I noticed. Staff was very slow. My plate was insanely hot, I know they're normally hot, but this was crazy hot. Finished my food and the plate was still untouchable. And the mints were all sticky and some were out of their packages. Very disgusting. Would definitely recommend trying another place if you are in the area. Everyone was very friendly, however the food was terribly bland. My husband ordered Carne Guisada, and was concerned when it got to the table because it didn't look like the authentic Guisada we have eaten. I ordered the spinach enchiladas and the plate came saturated with cheese, and the spinach tasted as if it was boiled prior. Food was also overpriced for quality of food. The service was excellent. The hostess brought crayons and a sample of horchata for our kids to try. My michelada was great, but my husband's screwdriver was made with tequila. He and the kids complained the food was too salty. My taco salad was as good as expected. Probably won't be returning to this specific branch. Had the brunch buffet very early on a Sunday. Everything looked fresh and interesting. I had the chili rellenos(spelling?) and they where very good. Omlets made to order and a waffle station with lots of fruit and toppings. The pork carnitas where better than most I've had and lots of salsa and guacamole available. read more

Okay I like to go to 7 Leguas but a friend told me to go there and try it. I was told it's one of the best, but it's not it started already with the salsa just sauce with a couple chunks in it. Than the margarita was okay nothing special. My entree was way to small just three small enchiladas with a non tasty chicken in it. Those 3 enchiladas together had the same size than 1 1/2 at 7 Leguas, it was looking like that the side where there just to cover the empty side of the plate. Not enough rice and beans. The prices are okay but you get more for the same money at 7 Leguas or even some stuff cheaper. I will not return I stay with 7 Leguas. read more

My husband and I were very disappointed with El Bosque. The food wasn't great, not to mention undercooked. My husband ordered the stuffed fried avocado and it was still frozen in the center when they brought it out. The bus boy was much more attentive than our waiter. We had to wait quite awhile for him to finally come around for us to ask for our check Although the food wasn't great, the margaritas were good and the place had a nice open layout. The worst Barbacoa in AMERICA!!!! Who uses ROSEMARY? CHUNKS OF BAY LEAFS? Horribly dry too. I would not eat this and left it there. We tried covering with red and green salsa...no go. Other patrons seemed to like other items. We only ordered the tacos. read more

I'm so glad I found this place! Located in a strip mall that I would've totally overlooked if I had not been craving Mexican food and keeping my eyes out for anything that would satisfy my craving. As my bf and I walked in, we read a sign that said "Happy Hour all day Monday and Tuesday, $1.99 margaritas." SCORE!!! We were seated in a funny type of booth. I say this because the table was too short for the booth and didn't align with the wall very well and it had a slight slant that bugged the both of us throughout dinner. Our chips and salsa came out and we ordered a couple of margaritas and some queso to start the meal. The chips and salsa were addicting that I could've easily filled up on these before getting to my main entree. The margaritas were pretty good for house margaritas. You could definitely taste the tequila and there was a good balance of that plus their mix. I've been to some places that charged a lot more than 2 bucks for simply mix and a splash of tequila, totally sucked! The queso was nothing special, but I did like the pickled chiles that came out with it. I munched on these throughout the dinner. Our entrees came out...beef tacos and a tamale dinner. I can only comment on the taco dinner since that's what I ordered and I didn't get to try any of the tamales. Well, the tacos weren't exactly what I was expecting. I was expecting the corn tortillas filled with beef, tomatoes, cheese and onions, but instead it was those crispy tacos. I guess next time I should ask if they are crispy or traditional tacos. See what happens when you assume...ugh! The tacos were OK, but I definitely enjoyed the beans. The beans were very flavorful, I could've eaten a whole plate of them. The rice was simply OK as well. I enjoyed my food and drinks and would definitely head back for more, but there was something that did disturb me about the place which is a reason for a 3-star review rather than a 4-star. The bathroom was out of water. Hmm...the toilets worked but the sinks didn't. As I walked into the restroom, I just kept reading the sign that said, "employees must wash their hands before returning to work." Umm, if there's no water, then how is this possible? I have never had bad service until tonight! I had to ask for my appetizer THREE times and they finally brought it AFTER our meal. I asked for a to go box, went to pay my bill came back and they cleared our table, took our food and never brought the box (not that I had anything to put it in after that) - I asked my kids who were still at the table where did the food go and was told they came and took the plates. Complain to the lady at the pay out desk and was handed a card for a free queso dip which I gave back after I discovered they had cleared my table and said I won't ever be back in here. read more

so the skinny margaritas are awesome, chips and salsa good too. Food, not so much. i ordered the bean chalupas. They actually flipped a small fluted red tortilla upside down after dipping in beans...strange....then covered entire plate with iceberg lettuce, a few tomatoes and called it done. Went for the sunday breakfast brunch this morning, and I wonder why it took me so long to try this place out! So much food! I'm vegitarian and there was still plenty to choose from. The food was very typical for this style of restaurant. That is not a negative comment because it was good. We enjoyed the three varieties of salsa that they bring to the table. The chips were good and not salty. The beef taco meat was very flavorful.
