Had a great lunch with my husband for a first time visit. This location had been recommended by some friends so we decided to give it a try. The chips were served warm fresh and very tasty. We were presented with red warm salsa, which I love it when a salsa is served warm and a creamy tomatillo green sauce as well. Both were very flavorful, but not overpowering with heat which I loved we could've had a bowl of each for each of us. Service was attentive without being overpowering because when perusing their large menu, I could not decide what I wanted to try because I wanted a little bit of everything. Our waters and chips were so very promptly after being seated. I finally decided on the specialty dinner number two I believe, which was served with a crunchy beef taco that was filled with an enormous amount of seasoned ground beef and the lettuce and tomato on the side so you could stuff it yourself. It also came with a cheese puff with some yummy yellow queso, and then a side warm plate was a cheese enchilada that was served hot and bubbly. All the flavors were so fresh and delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. My husband had the taco plate, which was also with three seasoned ground beef tacos that were filled very heavily with the lettuce and tomato and cheese on the side has came with rice and beans and he devoured his plate. I'd say he'd liked it. Restrooms were clean. The restaurant itself has plenty of seeing nothing out of the ordinarily spectacular about the vibe. They do have what appeared to be a large room that is separate. Maybe that could be reserved for groups for a mid afternoon Saturday they had several tables that were filled lots of free parking available on site. It's worth the drive to check it out. We went in on Father's Day at 3 so it wouldn't be terribly busy. They sat our table of 10 right away in the bar area. Several of us ordered drinks and they had them out quickly. The Gold Margarita was great! A little strong but that's how I like them. I had the Mr. Taco Sampler which comes with (2) Small quesadillas, (2) small flautas, (4) nachos, (2) street tacos. Ordered the Mr Taco Nachos and they had NO BEANS at all on them. The put so much queso on them that the plate was swimming in it and it made the Chips Soggy and you couldn't pick them up to eat them. I told the Waiter but he did not care. He had nothing to say or do about it. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on Nachos that cost almost $15 and they don't even put the Beans on them. This place was a pleasant surprise. I thought I tried all the good Mexican restaurants around me when I noticed this place. The salsa and queso they give you with some jalapeño. Salsa was warm and okay flavoring and the queso seemed a tad watered down, but it still was good. The beef fajita was really good and so was the rice and beans. Beer was cold and the service was great. My wife ordered a margarita and it was a little different but we still enjoyed it. We will definitely be going back again. read more

100% recommend this place! Let's start at the beginning. The salsa... oh my word, the salsa. Warm, layered with dimensional flavor. The tang of the cilantro, the sweetness of the onion, the acidity of the tomatoes simmered to create a dance on your tongue that makes you want more. The salsa was accompanied by traditional Texas queso and a side of jalapeño. I ordered the #9 on the lunch menu: $12.95 got me two full plates of food, (and at least 2-3 meals!). Rice - flavorful and fluffy - not tomato based but still full of seasoning and richness. The refried beans were smooth and creamy with the undercurrent of salinity from whatever fat they used and had a nice hint of meaty flavor. It also came with what they called a puff; but really was a tortilla bowl with more queso, a nice smooth light quacamole, and a pretty standard ground beef taco. BUT, then we have the tamale - meaty, rich, topped with a chili sauce that was deep with flavor. Definitely full of smoky chili powder, maybe a little cinnamon, cumin, and garlic combined to make a bite that made me do a little happy dance. It also came with a cheese enchilada that was smooth, velvety and so much flavor it covered all 5 taste senses. My boyfriend ordered an ala carte chili relleno with was complex and bright. Topped with a chunky tomato sauce that was a nice juxtaposition to the creamy cheese filling. Heat hit at the end leaving you wanting more. He also ordered the street tacos which come with 5, and they let you mix and match your meats which is great. While I didn't taste the tacos, they looked fresh, and were topped generously with cilantro and onions (some grilled), and were accompanied by a bowl of charro beans. The pintos were creamy and smoky - indicating a long simmer with that lovely coating that results from a good slow cook. The flavor was fully developed and delicious. Now, let me say that we were with my parents and my dad is MORE than a handful. They joined us after we had already ordered our drinks and made the comment "is anyone going to wait on us?". The server, a lovely woman, about-faced and came to take their drink order immediately. After that, the service that followed was nothing short of extraordinary. We had 5 people checking on us regularly throughout the course of the meal. I can't speak highly enough how they handled a rude situation with grace and dignity. The funny part is that my dad made the comment about how good everything was and he was so impressed he was going to tell my uncle. While we were just visiting, I sincerely wish that we could just relocate this gem of a spot to our hometown, because this food is ridiculously craveable and the service was amazing. read more

Our first time here. My sister lives in the area and we rotate Mexican food places. It's not fancy from the outside but the quality of the food is note worthy. The margarita was not too strong but was too watered down with sweet n sour. My sister had crunchy tacos which were packed with meat snd she said they were delicious. I had the birria tacos which were ok but not as stellar as the carne asada ( which the waiter recommended). The carne asada was the star of the show. The portion was big enough for 2 , tender and flavorful. So good for the money. All of my sisters friends recommended so super glad we tried. Why 4 stars? Because even under subpar circumstances, these fajitas were tasty. --- --- --- I was looking for a restaurant open on a Sunday evening and came across Mr Taco & Tequila Bar. I'm not sure how I missed this place before when browsing nearby eateries, but I was happy to stop in here, rather than drive much farther to the original spot I had mapped out for food. As has now become the tradition, I ordered mixed fajitas for 2, as my wife and I seem to have tried at least 15 different places in North Houston now and are hosting a bit of an unofficial competition. My gripe about this visit would not have been a factor if we had dined in, but we have a toddler who is terrible at restaurants, so I called in an order for pickup. I placed the bags in my car and had an uneventful drive home. Unfortunately, the condition of the food was as if I had been in a massive car accident after doing donuts on 105. The whole thing was a giant mess and I would definitely recommend they revisit their to-go packing process. But the food itself was really tasty. The fajita meat itself was the highlight. The chips and queso were a solid 4-stars. And the only other misstep was my fault - I should have request refried beans instead of charro, but I didn't hate them, when I normally do. I ordered the beef enchiladas and the 5-taco with avocado slice, and I've gotta say... WOW! So delicious. I usually don't like Mexican rice but yours was super moist and tasty, the tacos were good, maybe too much cilantro, but the superstar was the enchiladas! So delicious! Fairly new spot between Conroe & Montgomery. We had read great things in the local Facebook foodie page so we had to try it out. The chips and dips that they brought to the table were delicious. I'm not certain what the name of the one in particular was but it had some HEAT on it. Great flavor but definitely spicier than the other. Also had a little queso. The mango margarita was top notch. Very strong but not overpowering with alcohol flavor. One of the best in the area and I feel like I've tried them all. I wanted to sample their street tacos so I got 5 different ones. All were delicious but the barbacoa was my favorite. That's no surprise as I'm a barbacoa guy at heart. My wife had the Gordita's. I forgot to get a picture but she raved about them. I've only been here once, and it was for breakfast. My husband was looking for a breakfast burrito, this place was open and we thought a breakfast burrito would be no problem. We were wrong, no breakfast burrito and even asking for one to be made was no. So hubby went with two breakfast tacos. Regular breakfast sausage is not available here, nor were we advised of this when we asked, we were told yes. Turns out he got ham in his tacos, which was fine, but not the sausage requested. I on the other hand had green chilaquiles, and they were fantastic. I love chilaquiles and always ready to order them and this place did not disappoint. Mr. Taco is the closest restaurant to my house & my wife & I finally had a chance to check it out last week after moving to Conroe back in March. Mr. Taco is very spacious inside & the wait staff was super attentive to our order. Ambiance is pretty standard "Mexican restaurant" style, so you probably wont see anything you haven't already seen at 1000s of other Mexican restaurants. I ordered a fajita nacho plate appetizer & a birria taco plate that both were VERY good. Standard Mexican food starters like chips & salsa were also very good. I like the traditional salsa but the other yellow dip they brought was amazing! Good heat level, nice flavor and well seasoned; I finished off that entire cup by myself. For dinner, I decided on Green enchiladas. They were good, can't quite say the best I've had but good enough if that's what you have a taste for; well seasoned, the chicken was perfectly cooked, not dry and a balanced amount of sauce and cheese. For drinks, we tried their large frozen mango margaritas. They were pretty good as well. Nicely mixed and strong enough to leave a nice buzz by time you finish it off.
