El Borrego is actually a grocery store with a restaurant inside. We had a hard time finding it because Yelp directions take you a block out of your way. There is actually easy street parking in front of the building. El Borrego is a favorite of the locals in Kokomo. The tables and chairs are carved colorful tropical scenes. The dining room is not fancy, but functional. A generous portion of complementary chips and a fresh salsa come out quickly. Our server was friendly and attentive. They serve traditional Mexican favorites and I was in the mood for a couple tacos. You can buy a platter of 20 mixed tacos for $69 or order them individually. I selected the soft shell Tacos Supreme, one chicken and one shrimp. The tacos were very good with lots of cheese, meats and lettuce. I also picked up some tortillas in their grocery store. They carry an impressive variety of spices and dried peppers. I return and recommend. read more

The restaurant is attached to a store. Seat yourself style with typical bright colored decor. The menu was large and had lots of things I wish I could have tried. I don't know why but the food was spot on, it's like everything was portioned perfect, everybody ate everything no Togo boxes. Wow! Found this place on a whim yesterday when my husband and I were passing through Kokomo walking the Industrial Heritage Trail, which is a short walk away. I order the Tacos Al pastor to-go. People in front of me got over charged and I was kicked out for having my service dog with me I didn't even get any type of customer service. My job relocated me two Kokomo from Chicago. So I'm a stickler for good authentic steak tacos. It threw me off how the restaurant was in the back of the store but I went with it and it turned out amazing. Everything was cooked to perfection. I've been to some Mexican restaurants where the steak tacos are slightly tough. These were so tender and the way the tortillas were cooked with just a slight crunch was amazing. The fish tacos also were phenomenal. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for authentic Mexican food. read more

I grew up in the L.A. area so I know good food and I know "hole in the wall" gems. We moved to this area about a month ago and we could not find a good Mexican restaurant until now. As you walk in, the smell gave off that L.A. Olvera Street vibe. their tamales are really good, they could use more filing but you won't be disappointed by the flavoring. I had their pastor and carnitas gordItas and it was really good. It also has a small market inside where you can pick up those hard to find Mexican items you won't find at Kroger or Meijer. The food is flavorful and the plating isn't fancy but who cares. I've had fancy plates but the food was terrible. The only thing I wish they had was homemade tortilla chips because that always takes salsa and chips up a notch for sure. But it's not a deal breaker for me. Something told me to get supreme because if I a would have got them made regular I wouldn't have paid. Their steak tastes like Taco Bell ground beef. Not the steak. Yes, Taco Bell steak is better. They have the best tacos in town, and possibly in the state of Indiana! Chicken and steak tacos are both 9/10, with your choice of flour or corn tortillas. Don't let the put side appearance fool you, this place is the go to if you want REAL tacos. read more
