Had an amazing brunch experience at El Barril on the far east side yesterday! I happened to bump into the chef at the Wine and Food Festival, who mentioned that they now offer everyday brunch. As a brunch enthusiast, I couldn't resist checking it out. El Barril is a cozy little place with a friendly atmosphere. What I loved about it is that it's not just a bar; they also welcome families with kids, and it's clear that they have a loyal customer base. They've been serving delicious food for over four years, and everyone there is incredibly nice. I decided to go for the avocado toast. At around $7, it was one of the most affordable options I found, and they were incredibly generous with the toppings. The wheat bread was layered with creamy avocado mash, crispy bacon strips, and a perfectly cooked egg of your choice (I went with over easy). The avocado toast had a unique seasoning that gave it a delightful lemony twist, different from your typical everything bagel seasoning. I also asked for salsa or Chile on top, and they had a variety of sauces to choose from. The combination was fantastic! To accompany my meal, I ordered their iced cafe de olla, which turned out to be a refreshing treat. The cinnamon and spices blended perfectly with the coffee, creating a balanced and creamy beverage. It was a truly enjoyable iced coffee experience. Next, the chef recommended that I try their tacos, and I'm so glad I did! The tacos came as a medley of carne asada, tripitas, and chicken. The presentation was beautiful, and the tortillas were perfectly fried to a crispy texture. The meat portions were incredibly generous, especially with the carne asada. I particularly enjoyed the green sauce that accompanied it. The meat was tender, although there were a few chewy pieces. The tripitas were also perfectly fried, and although the accompanying sauce was just okay, adding the green sauce took it to the next level. The chicken taco was a pleasant surprise for me. It had a delicious smoky flavor, possibly from being chargrilled. The sauce accompanying the chicken wasn't my favorite--it was a peanut sauce with a slight Thai influence--but adding the green sauce made it absolutely delicious. If they offered the sauce they use on their fries as an option, the tacos would be even more incredible. It's evident that they excel at spices and sauces, as their cocktails and red beers pack a flavorful and spicy punch. I wholeheartedly recommend El Barril to friends and family. It's a hidden gem for a relaxed and delicious brunch experience. They offer brunch every day from 10am to 3pm. They also have other tempting options like chilaquiles, stuffed French toast, and mimosas, which I can't wait to try on my next visit. Don't miss out on this fantastic spot! Come and check them out--you won't be disappointed.

finally had a chance to try the red beers at el barrel due to not wanting to go to my usual spot which is clasico. I will say the red beers here are really good and definitely worth a try.

The Clamato that I ordered was really good. I ordered it with shrimp and the hottest carne seca they have.

Only been there one time and it satisfied my craving for sure. The lemon pepper carne seca I had ordered (other than the super spicy one) was fully prepared in a separate cup with limon and hot sauce which was AMAZING. A bit pricey but still really good.

    So much yes!

Ahhhhmazing red beers. Service was on point and explained the menu very well. Had the Thursday special for 1.50$ Tecates and a Clamato with beef jerky and shrimp and it was worth the every penny. Great value and quality for the price!

I had tried to go to the huge Asian styled building called Oriental Imports off Gateway several times but it was closed and boarded up even though Google Maps said it was open. Turns out it's closed and the owners have moved across the street literally and have a smaller space called Oriental Market. It's been open for about 6 months and I swear I've died and gone to Chinatown. It was "Big Trouble" for my wallet alright. I wanted to buy everything there...all the tchotchkes and snacks and tools and clothing and decor! From Chinese cheongsams, to Korean handbooks, to Japanese kimonos, clothing is definitely authentic and you don't have to worry about sizing since you can see the fit there, unlike online. The market portion has a lot of snacks and sauces and basically they've taken the most well known and tasty brands and stocked them, so they've weeded out the hundreds of off brands a bigger marketplace stocks in the hopes that you'll try another maybe cheaper soy sauce etc. It's just easier to find quality stuff here, imo. I got a lot of snacks and even got a Kaiju t-shirt that vaguely reminds me of the Jurassic Park logo, so it's mildly ironic. The quality of the items were far better than the actual Chinatown stuff I grew up with in Los Angeles, but we'll see as I use them over time. I'm so happy I don't have to wait to get my Chinese ointments and wait for Weeee to ship my stuff online. There's now a super cute local place I can go to get them and the prices and service makes it even better! Sadly the pricing reflects the fact that you're in El Paso. Nearly double what you'd pay at a Chinese market. So that stinks. It beggars can't be choosers. Some of the items didn't look too fresh and it was a little dusty in some spots. So not a lot of rotation of products. But overall was happy to grab some dumplings and egg rolls!

Wan Jia Le has pretty good reviews so we wanted to check out what they had! The store is in a little strip mall right off the highway but the sign is big so you can't really miss it. They have a pretty big space so I was naturally excited to see what they had. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of products they sold but unfortunately they were missing a few stuff I was looking for. I noticed certain items they keep low stock of as well. The chip aisle definitely looked like most of the products had been sitting there a while. I noticed the produce didn't look the freshest either. They also offer fresh seafood options but I would be wary of that since I don't know how long the fish have been sitting in the tanks. Overall, Wan Jia Le supermarket is a pretty decent spot if you're nearby and know that they carry what you're looking for. But honestly I'd rather go to Arirang Market closer to the northeast side of town. They had EVERYTHING I was looking for and their stock seems to be newer and rotated often.
