I've been living in the US where the Army takes me for the past 10 years, that being said, I don't often get the opportunity to eat food from home. There are not a lot of places in El Paso to eat Puertorrican food so I took my chances and ordered for me and my husband and the cost was $70. I cannot tell you how incredibly disappointed I was. The churrasco was so hard it was nearly inedible and the mofongo was just as tough. The shrimp was good but even with all that sauce, the mofongo was hard as a rock. As authentic and close to Puerto Rico you will get going to this location. From the décor, wall art, and music make you feel super comfortable as if you back home. The service was great from start to finish. The alcapurria was definitely better than the empanadilla but they were both delicious. Love the uniqueness of their mofongos. It was well seasoned, juicy and definitely delicious! Their natural juices are oh so good. When coming to this location make sure you pay attention to the turn into the parking lot. I ate for the first time here today. It was a very good experience for me. I understand that this joint used to be located on Zaragoza, but recently relocated to this current location off Airway. Ambiance was totally Latino--music and decor. There was very nicely air-brushed murals on the walls depicting some famous Puerto Rican athletes providing some bright-colored lively walls. My friend said this is truly a Puerto Rican joint, and if you come back on Friday night, there would be a dance floor with people dancing salsa, etc. Music was a little loud so that I had to pay particular attention to what we were talking about in our group--that's the only "complaint" I had to be honest. I really don't like talk over the noise. I personally prefer a little quieter place, but you know "when in Rome, do as Romans do!" Food I ordered was very flavorful. I tried some other's food like fried pork and fried beef, but bar none, my pork chop was the best flavored meat IMHO. You can get a different types of sides (carbs) like fried plantain, white rice and beans, yellow rice, etc. I tried fried plantain, and it was good with ketchup/mayo sauce. It was a little crunchy like potato chips. I was not expecting that since plantain I had before was sort of mushy. Service was impeccable. From the time we walked in this restaurant till we left, I only received pleasantness and smiles. Our servers were efficient, prompt and courteous. I'd definitely come back here to try other food they offer. $12.50 was a little more than I usually pay for lunch, but it was very good food and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was in your restaurant yesterday and unfortunately, did not have a good experience. I ordered the pork chops with arroz con Gandules, and a side of Tostones. The food came out and the arroz con gandules looked well prepared, but it was not. It had a funny taste to it, and it was not cooked all the way. The waitress changed it to white rice and beans and unfortunately, it was still not cooked. It didn't taste right. Not even the beans. I tried to eat it, but could not it was horrible. Never have. I had anything like it. I ended up leaving it on the plate and finish my meal with the Tostones with the burnt pork chops that were more like jerky. This is not the first time I have been to your restaurant. It has always been a good experience. Not sure what happened yesterday. I suggest that you look into your chef's cooking practices. By the way, I was not alone. There were two other people with me who had pretty much the same and both told me they did not like that rice or beans. Rice and beans are our staple food. I'm not sure how that one gets screwed up. I hope you take this as constructive criticism and not a complaint. Please check and see what the chef is doing in the kitchen. Came by to have lunch. It's a bright and colorfulplace. After bringing seated and orders place....got our drinks pretty quick but the food took much longer than most places open for lunch. The place wasn't full and looked we weren't the only ones waiting for their food. After about 30mins the sandwiches ordered was finally served. I am very sorry to say, but true Puerto Rican Cuisine has changed for the worst!!! My wife and I went to this place and order the Sancocho that came with Arroz con Gandules and I ordered the Pernil with Arroz Blanco with Habichuelas. On the side we ordered 2 orders of Alcapurrias with Carne (Because on the Website, even though it shows 2 per order on the photo, you only get 1), to me that is false advertisement, but that's Ok, let's continue. Here are the problems that we encountered and that honestly, I do not think we are ever going back, and hopefully help someone else make a wise decision! -The Sancocho tasted just like a Caldo de Res, nothing more and nothing less. -The Arroz with Gandules and the Arroz Blanco was hard, like it came from a batch made earlier, that came out of the refrigerator and then put into the microwave before serving, and to top it off, it was not warmed enough, or maybe it was made fresh but simply uncooked. - The Habichuelas had a very good casero (Homemade) taste, but they were cold, again, probably came out of the refrigerator and then not nuked enough. - And finally the Pernil, Ohhhhhhh my GOD, it was not even seasoned like a True Puerto Rican Pernil...... There are 5 simple ingredients that go into the pernil. Salt, Pepper, Oregano, Olive Oil and Lots of fresh garlic, and that goes for the lechon as well.......THAT'S IT! Some people add Sofrito, Recaito, Adobo, Sazon and some little and I repeat, some little Citrus. But noooooooooooooo, the cook or the chef had to make his or her own twist or version and added so much &^%&$ into it that it was inedible and unenjoyable. P.S. Beer is too expensive and the Medalla Beer is only 10 ounces (Lite by the way), and not 12 ounces, like the rest like the Coronas! Again, I can only speak from our experience yesterday; maybe hopefully somebody else has a better one than us! GOOD LUCK!!! read more

First and foremost, soy Boricua so my standards for Puerto Rican food are extremely high! I tried another local place and had a bad experience so I was quite apprehensive to try another. I'm SO glad that I came here. First, the wall murals are beautiful and there are so many wonderful details like the umbrellas when you first walk in, PR flag on the ceiling, Taino symbol of the coqui, and two Puerto Rican sports legends. Puerto Rican music was playing overhead (bachata at the time). Pro tip: if any PR restaurant is playing anything other than Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, or more rarely, Reggaeton, walk out! Very clean and tables were spaced nicely. Now to the food, we ordered a big variety and were incredibly pleased with EVERY dish. I will normally buy the dishes that are too labor intensive for me at home (alcapurrias, pasteles, mofongo, etc...). They were ALL delicious! This is a TRUE representation of Puerto Rican food. What a happy surprise 787 was. There really isn't too much to say other than it is friggin good! The menu is small, and not being familiar with Puerto Rican food we really didn't know what to order. My wife and I basically closed our eyes and pointed an item on the menu. My wife got the garlic chicken and I had something with plantains and pork. The flavor is an immediate lunch to the mouth.
