Come with me to El Atlakat, located on Bird Road, to try Salvadoran cuisine for the first time. I've heard great things about El Atlakat, and it always looks busy when I pass it on Bird Road, and now I know why. They offer authentic Salvadoran food that is homemade and made with fresh ingredients. The main reason I was drawn to El Atlakat was their Pupusas. This was my first time trying them, and we had their Pupusa Revuelta and Pupusa Loroco; both were delicious. The Pupusa Loroco is made with an ingredient native to Central America that I had never tried or heard of before. The Pupusa Revuelta was my favorite; the combination of mozzarella, refried beans, and pork belly was excellent, and the curtido and salsa roja were the perfect finishing touch. We also tried their Tamal De Elote. I'm not a fan of tamales, but this is one I will be happy to eat over and over. To drink, we had their Horchata and Mint Lemonade; both were fresh and had great flavor. I also tried their Cebolla Encurtida with a poblano sauce that made me chug my horchata . For our mains, we had the Mariscada Salvadoreña and the Churrasco a la Yucatán, and I was told these are some of their most popular and delectable dishes. The Mariscada Salvadoreña was incredible; everything was fresh and light, and I loved how it didn't smell overly fishy. The Churrasco a la Yucatán was perfectly cooked and tender, even when cooked well. The Yucatán sauce was creamy and complemented the steak and shrimp perfectly. For dessert, we had their Rosa del Guayabal, guava, and rose cheesecake, which is like nothing I've tried before. The rose flavor is present in the cheesecake and the guava in the syrup on top; they also add fresh mint leaves, creating a light and creamy dessert. Overall, El Atlakat is a new favorite for me. The service was some of the best I've ever experienced. Grilimar, who took care of us, was terrific; she provided fantastic suggestions and gave us background information on El Atlakat, the dishes, and some of the ingredients being used. Pablo, who was the busser, was also very attentive and kind. I will undoubtedly revisit El Atlakat.

I had the pupusa, El elote tam al, the churrasco and everything was delicious from start to finish such a modern yet cozy restaurant. I can't wait to come back the next time.

I've heard of this place for years and decided to give it a shot on a Thursday for lunch. Since it was a weekday, there was plenty of parking and upon entering, was seated immediately. Since it was pretty empty with only 3 other tables being served, I really thought service would be quick....it was quite the opposite. It was already 10 minutes and my server never came to take my order. Had it not been for the manager later walking by, I'm sure my server would've taken even longer. Server finally got my order and i was quite upset that my drink wasn't coming. After 20 minutes, it finally came all together with the food. Mind you, I only got a bean and cheese pupusa and taquitos. Putting aside the very slow and not best customer service, the food was delicious! Was craving pupusa for some time and I'm glad that this checked the box with how deliciously filled it was with cheese. As for the taquitos, it came with salad and cream and definitely hit the spot. They were very jam packed with chicken and flavor was great. Would I come again? Yes. Food was really good however just be mindful that service can be slow. Parking is likely to be challenging as well on a weekend since it's small.

Salvadoran home cooking at its finest! everything here is made to perfection. Doesn't matter if you come during breakfast, lunch, or dinner, El Atlakat has something for everyone to enjoy! The Pupusas here are so fresh and delicious! If you didnt know, Pupusas are a traditional dish from El Salvador and are similar to a corn pancake with bean and cheese or meat filling... yum! The churrasco and carne asada are my favorite. If you like creamy sauces, I highly recommend the pollo a la Yucatán! This place is always busy but the restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, and there's always a spot to sit at! Highly recommend this restaurant!

This place was an awseome try. I loved it. The wait was short and the place looked classy and clean. We tried the carnitas tacos and they were delicious sooooo flavorful and also the tortilla was extremly fresh. The pupusas were very fresh too just lacked a little bit of salt which its a quick fix. The green juice was exactly what it said "healthy tasting" and I had to take a milk flan to go which I bet is also good. We shall see later today. Will def come back

I did think it was weird none of the staff asked him to turn it down even though everyone was visibly annoyed by him. Another strange thing is the menu didn't include the side options so you had to ask for that. The tables are definitely in need of a refresh, with visible peeling on them. The food itself was fairly good, I especially liked the yuca frita and the churrasco. The service was below average, our waiter only came to our table to take the order and give us the check. 18% is automatically added to your bill as a "service charge", which I didn't think was appropriate considering the lack of actual service we received.

I ordered pupusas "revueltas." For those who might not know, a pupusa is a traditional Salvadoran dish made from thick corn tortilla stuffed with a mixture of ingredients. "Revueltas" or "mixed/scrambled" which I ordered is a combo of beans, cheese and pork mixture which is blended and filled inside the pupusa. It's served with a type of cabbage salad and tomato sauce. So good. I also ordered a tamale which was delicious as well. This is my go-to place when I'm looking for Salvadoran. Try it!

How can something this simple hit this hard?…read more At Pupusa Time, I'm genuinely at a loss for words--and that doesn't happen often. The space? No frills. The menu? Straightforward. But the food? Completely out of this world. Let's talk pupusas. At their core, it's just a corn tortilla stuffed with cheese. That's it. And yet somehow, it delivers more satisfaction than dishes ten times as complicated. Yes, they offer the classics--beans, chicharrón, the revuelta--but don't overthink it. The roasted garlic (ajo asado) pupusa is the move. Full stop. My first visit lined up with the Artemis mission, and honestly, that feels appropriate. The cheese pull stretches like it's trying to reach the moon, and I'm not convinced that cheese was made on this planet. It's rich, perfectly melted, and borderline absurd in the best way. And then there's the curtido--that bright, tangy slaw that cuts through everything with just enough funk and crunch to keep you grounded... or maybe not. Because paired with that pupusa, you're floating. There are very few handheld foods on Earth that can compete with this. Make the trip. Order the roasted garlic. We ordered takeout and the container alone told me I was in good hands: warm, generously stuffed pupusas wrapped with care like the precious cargo they are. The masa was perfectly cooked--soft with just the right crisp on the outside--and the fillings were flavorful, melty, and comforting in that this tastes like someone's abuela made it kind of way. And let's talk about the supporting cast. The curtido? Crunchy, tangy, and refreshing. The salsa roja? Balanced, savory, and not shy about flavor. Add a little kick if you want--everything plays its role beautifully. Even the jalapeño made an appearance like, "I'm here if you're brave." This is the kind of spot where you don't need frills or fancy plating. You need good food, done right, and Pupusas Time nails it. Simple menu, big flavors, and portions that make you feel like you got hugged by your takeout bag. Highly recommend for a casual dinner, comfort-food cravings, or when you want to remind yourself why hole-in-the-wall gems are undefeated. I'll absolutely be back--hungry and unapologetic.
