The absolute worst Mexican food ever. We ordered a cup of the tortilla soup, one tamal with a red sauce with beans and three chicken enchiladas in a red sauce. The enchiladas were not baked and were swimming in a sea of red sauce. The tortillas were difficult to cut even drowning in sauce. The tamal was also floating in red sauce with two servings of liquid beans. The cup of tortilla soup was in the bottom half of a 10" tall styrofoam cup with fried tortilla shreds on the side. There was an inch of rice then a thin red broth. Without the onions and cilantro garnish it would have been completely tasteless. The to go came with plastic cutlery inadequate to deal with the gloop of sauce and only one spoon. No freshness, zero appeal and bland on bland. The waste of all the styrofoam was appalling. Although the location is nice won't darken their door again. read more

We were craving our favorite dishes and drove down the hill to eat here. We call it our authentic Mexican food restaurant. Instead of closing at 9pm, the hours just changed to 8pm. We got there at 740. Since it was slower they already started mopping and put away tables. They insisted we could still order and eat there. They were so kind and made us feel welcome vs a burden. We didn't expect them to accommodate us since stoves were just turned off, etc and we were very understanding... BUT they still accommodated us. The food was amazing- as usual. Very satisfied and great customer service. read more

Food was excellent. Highly recommend the fajitas. The outside seating offered a great view of the creek bed and offers a great spot for the live bands that play in downtown Sonora. read more

Amazing food! My mom says it's the best chimichanga she's ever had, and the lunch special I got (pineapple mango salmon tacos) was sooooo good. Also, the servers were so nice! read more

Cocktails were good, dinner plate was good but a bit small. But the vegetarian items are a joke. It's like the owner never actually tried the food. Basically served my wife a can of beans on a plate. The cook or whoever makes the menu should try the food they serve. Hard to choose between 2 and 3 stars tbh but ill be generous. read more

The food was uniquely fantastic, small portions but great taste. I was disappointed in quantity and prices (ala carte) and that they charge you for chips and salsa. The service is inconsistent and honestly NEEDS work, especially at this price point. read more

Fannnnntastic !!!! I clean my plate every time I visit! .. I literally say Mmmmmm every bite I take! Can't wait till our next trip!

So delicious. We ordered the veggie bowl and speciale tacos. The veggies were grilled to perfection. We'll be coming back again and again. The outside seating next to the creek was a pleasant backdrop. read more

Typically I always give this restaurant five stars because the food and service is normally great. However, today was an exception...I was barely acknowledged by an unfriendly hostess. I requested outdoor seating (there were multiple open tables outside) and the hostess proceeded to tell me all of the reasons why we couldn't be seated outside at that time. She then went into a diet tribe about how the restaurant runs in regards to sections, servers and seating. She explained if we sat inside there would be no wait, so we agreed. She seated us at our table where we waited another 8-10 minutes without any acknowledgment from staff (mind you, this restaurant was NOT full). A server finally came over and we asked if we could be seated outside once again where she then said she had to clean the table first. We went to the cleaned table outside, where there were two dirty tables (plates, cups, food) on either side of us. This stayed this way until our entrees arrived (50 min later). The service was lacking and the ambiance was unpleasant due to the dirty tables surrounding us. Once the food finally arrived after almost an hour, it was tasty as usual. I'm hoping it was just an off day because we have frequented this place and have enjoyed every experience up until this point. P.s. A smile and friendly greeting get you a long way in the service industry. Please remind your hostesses. read more

This place is beyond amazing. My five friends just came out of here and couldn't stop about how much we needed to leave a review. Everything from the food, the drinks, the staff, the ambiance, so good! Go here! I will come to Sonora just for this ol read more

They close way too early, especially on weekends. Wth!?! Food- meh, very subpar. Got my simple order wrong, and my avocado slices were paper thin, so thin I was impressed with the skill... : hours later, I regret eating there.... read more

Best margaritas, delicious, fresh food, and great service. One of our favorite local places. Try the tacos especial.

Food good, service slow, sitting on the patio by the creek nice. Good place to eat at 2-4pm when you're not in a hurry. If you park on green st you don't have to tackle the very steep stairs. Drinks menu is also very interesting tequila bar style of course, lots of good appetizers, and they have fresh horchata. It's nice but saying it again... Service is SLOW. read more

Good food, cold beer and margaritas. Outside dining is great for 2. Inside dining is best in the bar. The service was fairly good both times we were there on off hours. I'll definitely go back. read more

Great location for outdoor seating. Nice staff. Great salsas. Food was delicious and would love to try this little gem of a place again.

Went for dinner on a Friday night. Wasn't too crowded, food was great. I ordered the Molcajete, with chicken and beef and the creamy sauce at my waitresses recommendation, it was amazing. read more

This is by far the best Mexican food we have ever had and we travel the country. So much flavor and presentation us amazing. Been there 6 times in 3 weeks. read more

Food was pretty good except the refried beans. Which are chunky style just not my preference I wouldn't return because the wait staff was not very attentive. I had to ask for sugar, refill on my ice tea, etc etc plus a fly kept landing on my food read more

After waiting two hours for 3 tiny finger tacos a customer rudely tripped me on my way out causing me to fall and suffer from a black eye and a torn ACL! The staff offered no help and were rude to my fiancé for trying to help me up! Never again would I suffer through this Slapstick operation read more

I haven't left a review in a long time but was up in Sonora visiting some family and decided to try El Arroyo. If we could give higher score we would! We knew Saturday night meant it would be busy so the fact that we waited to be seated was not terrible. When we were seated, the hostess and our waiter told us they were short on wait staff and they had a large party they were making sure the food got out so we would likely be waiting even more. We decided to stay since we were already there and knew any other place would likely have a wait time - we were invested at this point already. Also everywhere we have been out to eat since COVID has always meant long waiting because everywhere seems to be short staffed. But I digressed, the waiter came and took our drink order, we asked to place the order for our 3 year old at that time since we knew it was going to take time and wanted to get that food sooner since our toddler could not wait as long as adults. The drinks came pretty quickly along with our toddler's meal! Awesome job kitchen staff! We put our food order in and to our surprise it came out pretty quickly as well. So service staff were on top of their game even being short staffed. The food was really good. First I'm Mexican and no Mexican restaurants have ever stood out it's very rare that that a spot is good to me but I've never been to a place that reminds me of home or makes things that taste like I make especially when it comes with the basics like beans rice and tortilla but especially the beans. They were just right. We tried chicken enchiladas verde, sauce was different than mine but still really good, they were small looking and we didn't think it was going to be filling but they were filled with a lot of pulled chicken and the 3 enchiladas were plenty filling. Had grilled chicken and it was flavorful and moist not dry. The salsa was good too wanted more. I know that some ppl will eat here and not appreciate it in the way I did because they can't wait or don't like the creek and park where they can occasionally see homeless ppl but honestly I will return when I visit family again and the staff is amazing!!! read more

I'm so pleased with the food and service here. Especially Jazzmin who is an absolute joy and a beautiful person all the way around.

Love, love, love this place! We are there 3 times this week, different food each time and it was all amazing! If you go on Friday or Saturday, the beef barbacoa tacos are a must! The wait staff are so nice and check often to make sure you are good. I will be going back soon to have their pineapple margarita, with fresh pineapple! read more

During this covid 19 shelter in place this was our go to every Friday night. Food was always ready for pick up on time, the service is wonderful and the food is excellent!! We love that it is spotlessly clean, even before Covid we loved to dine in the restaurant and on the patio. The patio overlooks a beautiful creek and its nice to sit and relax with one of their amazing margaritas from their bar or an ice cold beer. Every dish that we have tried has been wonderful!!! I highly recommend the crispy tacos and the fajitas!! I look forward to to going back and bringing my friends!! highly recommend!!! read more

Great food and outdoor seating! We ordered the molcajetes, beef quesadilla, and pescado al pastor. Everything was fresh and homemade. I would stop by here again when Yosemite reopens. read more

Nice food with great service, love that place. Food was fancy and delicious. Also ordered ice creams for desert and got a nice treat

Nice out door setting great food and service never ran out of ice tea! Very large portions.

We just had the most fabulous dining experience at El Arroyo. The service, food, drinks, and new restaurant decor were all just fantastic. We were a larger group with four kids trying to find a good place for dinner and the typical restaurants were all packed. We hadn't expected to eat Mexican, but are so glad we did. The two brothers bring very authentic food to Sonora and it was one of those meals where I asked to speak with and compliment the owners. They were both so nice and appreciative. I know there are a lot of dining options in this town, but if you don't check out El Arroyo you're depriving yourself. read more

El Arroyo has amazing Mexican food! Great friendly service. We had the carnitas tacos, sopacitas, guacamole, chile rellenos, flan. It was all delicious!! Fresh, homemade. You can tell the staff wants you to be satisfied with everything. read more

This place is yummy! I had the enchiladas and I was shocked how good it was! But they have been closed since the holidays! I think they are doing renovations? Anyone know when they will reopen? read more

This is my least favorite Mexican restaurant. I saw our waitres twice. My wife had to ask three times for silverware as well as the rest of the findings that were suppose to come with her fajitas, that she never got. She said fajitas were nothing special. My plate on the other hand was... sent back and not replaced! I had the carni asada. To put it mildly the only flavor it had was that of a peppercorn and the consistency of my old combat boots. Overall poor service, poor food and would not recomend read more

Ordered steak fajitas and payed extra for the mushrooms. Mushrooms turned into char. Vegetables were burned. It was bad. The steak is super well well done. I would be embarrassed to present it. Chef and waitress are bad. Slow service. Didn't have ingredients for drinks. I regret not bringing it up when I got my check. Extra for chips lol, extra for salsa...u always get that for free! read more

Terrible margaritas! Watered down, no flavor. I like spicy food, but the salsa with the chips was too much. We ordered queso, and they brought a tray of melted cheese. Not exactly what I think of when I ordered queso dip. The grilled chicken was pretty dry, but tasted good. The house burrito had a LOT of sauce. It was good, but a full plate of it was too much. We had hoped for better. The service was good though. read more

Food is good but they really need to work on customer service! Called in for an order to go. Waited on hold for almost 10 minutes and finally hung up! Called back and placed my order and was told 30 minutes. Walked over after about 25 minutes only to find that our order had been sitting for quite some time. read more

Won't be back. That's all there is to it. Why your salsa so tiny? Is there a shortage on tomato's? Also wanted guacamole on me burrito, they couldn't do it because they said they only make it fresh and they can't.... Took an hour to get our food. Go to el jardin in Columbia or cc in Jamestown. Gave one star for creek. That was fun. Too bad the sleeping homeless guy on the bench in the park was in plain sight. read more

I had the best table service today that I have had in years. The several wait staff were attentive without being annoying. The food was good, especially the guacamole which was obviously freshly prepared. The tortilla chips were crispy but not greasy. My asada tacos were tasty although the meat seemed a lot like lean ground beef. They were not greasy, either. I ate at an outside table overlooking Wood's Creek. That was nice. read more

Crispy carnitas taco's!! Side of Guacamole. Pitcher of Cadillac Margs and dinner is served by Gloria's son

This place is FANTASTIC! Fabulous food and excellent service! We couldn't get enough and just kept ordering lol. Highly recommended!

I grew up with every kind of spin on Mexican food (so cal) you can imagine and everything traditional. This place is awesome! They make all their sauces, tortillas etc...you can tell everything is fresh! Flavorful wow compared to any other place especially out this way these ppl are the real deal! Tacos especial w carnitas or el pastor amazing!!! Everything was excellent. Very friendly staff too. read more

Upon arriving at El Arroyo we were greeted and seated promptly by their friendly staff. It was our first time and they have a nice variety of item on their menu (admittedly, even a few items I've never even heard of before and we love & eat Mexican food pretty often!)
