If you're looking for a (mostly) tequila-based craft cocktail, or a break from the norm in walking distance from numerous hotels and beach bars, this is definitely the place to go. They're related to the excellent Agave restaurant two doors down in the same building, so certain Agave food items are available here. In any case, I stopped in for some drinks recently and loved everything. I started with their Oaxaca Old Fashioned, which is an orange-tasting mix of tequila, mezcal and bitters. Moved on to The Don; a great margarita. Finally, feeling the need to step it up, I asked for a recommendation on a reasonably priced smooth tequila to sip; the recommended Padre Azul anejo was exactly what I was looking for. The interior has more of a lounge vibe than a bar; lots of group seating areas, a pool table, chess, etc. Now, my six months later update to my original review; I've since ventured into the world of mezcal, and love coming here to find random new mezcals they get in. Mezcal is also produced from the agave plant, but unlike tequila, generally can't be produced in anywhere near the volume, so you aren't going to find it receiving the same attention tequila does, since no distiller could generate enough to keep up with the demand an advertising campaign would bring. I've found I really enjoy a smoky mezcal, straight up or even for an upgraded margarita, and many of the mezcals they serve here can also be purchased in bottle form at the liquor store next door (a family member of the owner owns that store). read more

This is a 2 star at best. Bad parking to start with. Few tables and a tourist trap restaurant. Over priced for below average food. Staff was just ok nothing special. I would rank it with taco bell food quality for 3 times the money. read more

Well I hate to rain on the five star parade, but I found El Agave Bar to be "A-OK" (Yelp description for 3 stars). Now keep in mind we were only here for one drink, while we waited for our table at Agave Restaurant, which is right next door. That one drink, a margarita, was tasty. I think a house margarita was ordered, so nothing too fancy. I was surprised to see a pool table, so that's kinda cool. Bottom line: Very clever to open a bar next to a popular restaurant, where this is usually a wait. Note: I was here at the end of 2019, so this review is going in the 2019 collection. read more

Really dig this place! Was there earlier and a bit calm & casual....we liked! Nice place to enjoy sipping some top shelf tequila and crafted cocktails. Great for conversation or a little date moment. Plus it has a little swanky vibe to it. Unexpected and really cool. We'll try the pool table next time. read more

Excellent food. Prompt, friendly service, and strong drinks. I got the veggie fajitas which were fantastic. We also shared a pitcher of margaritas which were strong and delicious. Prices were fair. Atmosphere was a little crowded but every table was full and that's why. Outdoor seating along with indoor. Definitely worth the trip. read more

Hands down the best margaritas i have ever had. Check this out, I was bar hopping and happened to walk by a VW van serving craft cocktails out of it. The chick I was with was like let's hit this and I was SKEPTICAL as hell. Because look, I wasn't feeling a shitty beachside margarita served from a van. Oh holy mother of Guadalupe was I wrong. These cocktails were soooooo crisp and clean, Zero Point Zero after taste, just finished so damn clean bruh! The dude serving them was super chill and he took pride in serving up a super stellar drink. Long story short I had three and was feeling dandy, real dandy. So pleased this smoking hot girl I was rollin with whined me into going. Not everyday you have the best Marg of your life. Thank you Agave, your truly are a Mexican legend. I highly recommend the jalapeño marg, clean spice. The hibiscus marg is pure class as well. Cheers. read more

we were there last night around 6... The restaurant is very small with outside seating. You had to yell across the table to be heard. The waitresses were very friendly and amazingly remembered your order without writing it down. The waitress staff never checked back with us it see it everything was OK. As for the food, there is no free chips and dip. It was $10.00 and we passed on that. The food was ok. I ordered a chicken tostada grande. The chicken was shredded so thin that you could not taste or see the chicken. It was blended in with soggy lettuce that looked like spinach. The tomato was 3 little slices of a very small tomato and the shell was very soggy on the bottom. Very little flavor. Another of our group of 4 ordered a slow cooked brisket Barbacoa burrito. He was satisfied with his but thought it was ridiculous you had to pay extra to have a sauce and cheese to be put on top.. Another ordered a chicken burrito but did not pay extra for the sauce and it was very dry but flavor was ok. The last person ordered a chile relleno that appeared to be headed in an microwave vs a freshly made dinner and the relleno was not temperature as unsatisfactory . We have had much better food and service in other local Authentic Mexican Restaurants. read more

Food was just ok. Service was the worst I've ever had! 1st time there, I sat at the bar (alone & woman in 60's) & was completely ignored. A man walked in sat at the bar a couple of seats down. He was immediately greeted with a menu, cloth napkin & silverware. I have not even been greeted yet, clearly sitting with no menu, etc. Bartender goes on sharing with the man their list of tequilas. The bartender makes his drink & serves to him. I still haven't been acknowledged & was trying to get the bartenders attn! Finally, the man signals the bartender that I was trying to get their attention. He got his tequila & food b4 I was even served my drink order. The bar is small & only 3 people, including myself, are sitting there. I thought I'd give a second chance. 2nd time service was even worse if you can believe it!! HORRIBLE!! read more

HELL YES. If you're stopping in St. Pete beach for a margarita or tequila shot you owe it to yourself to come here, don't drink the syrupy crap on the beach. More than fair pricing and Heraldo the bartender is faaaaaantastic. read more

If you like tequila or mezcal this place is absolutely perfect for you. El Agave has the largest assortment of tequila and mezcal of anywhere I've found in st Pete. Its located right next to Pappy's liquors and Agave restaurant. It is a great, local, family owned business that we are happy to support. This is a new Craft cocktails bar that has recently opened on St Pete Beach. It's in the same center as the Agave Mexican Restaurant. The owner, Gerardo has created something special here. His cocktails are all mostly made with either tequila or mezcal. I never thought I would enjoy a mezcal old fashioned but his is absolutely delicious! This place should definitely be on your list when you visit St Pete Beach. read more
