    Tempura broccoli

The rumor is that the line is long. We arrived (right before noon on a rainy Saturday) and walked right up to the counter. There are 4 little tables. We were lucky enough that right after we ordered and within a couple of minutes, a party got up and we grabbed the table. Back to why we are here- the food. * Tofu brah bun: delicious. Cubed tofu. Great flavor. But very messy. * Garlic chili oil noodles with pork - we liked the noodle and the pork individually but we thought noodle and pork flavors were conflicting... noodles is chili oil and pork is soy sauce based. * Tempura broccoli - wow - you just have to try it yourself- Lightly battered. We will return to try other items.

FOOD TRUCK REVIEW: My friend and I went to Curious Iguana's Bookfair last Thursday (5/14/26) at Attaboy Brewery and we had our first taste of Ekiben yumminess! Both of us ordered the neighborhood bird bun in mild and spicy and crab Rangoon egg rolls. The neighborhood bird sandwich tasted so good and on point in the spice level. Portions were generous that I got full and took it home. The gem for us was the crab Rangoon egg-roll. Now, we just have to try the restaurant downtown when the lines aren't super long. Thank you. Curious Iguana for being a great local gem and Attaboy for the great location. Love, love the book events there and the ambiance.

The staff is always friendly and the place is always busy. It's got a cozy warm feel, with limited seating. If you want to skip the wait order ahead. The food is delicious. We always get the tempura broccoli! It's so crispy and we love leftovers so get the vinegar on the side. Can't go wrong with the tofu bowl or the crispy shrimp bowl. You'll want to keep coming back to try out the whole menu.

Finally ekiben opens closer. There was quite a line instead the store on a Fri night and another 20 mins wait for the food. It is a lot easier to drive and find parking in Frederick than going to Baltimore. I always get the neighborhood birds. This time, we tried the ancho pork as well.

I decided to stop here while in the Frederick area. It was a good choice. You have to try garlic chili oil noodles! They are a 10 out of 10. The protein I added was tender and seasoned well. It's a little spicy but not too bad for me. I also got the crispy shrimp. The shrimp size is big! The crispy was okay. I think it would be better with a different type of batter but I get the Asian style of the crispy. I will definitely be back to get the garlic chili oil noodles and try some other items

Finally tried out this place, and I'd been to the one in Baltimore and loved it. We went and stood in line and ordered to-go. The bun was incredible, portion sizes were great for the expensive price. The crab Rangoon egg roll was shockingly good, tasted like REAL crab and REAL cheese, not the usual "cream cheese and imitation crab" that Chinese restaurants make (which I also like). I was very impressed! The service was slow but they are constantly packed, line out the door, so I understand. They were all chill guys working, very friendly, all wearing SnapBacks which felt so adorable for some reason? Like it was part of the uniform for them haha. They also sell Ekiben SnapBack hats, tempted to buy one since they look cool. My only critique is get a second or third register! You guys are super popular, there was a line at like 2pm! Food is delicious, you will certainly remain popular for a long time. Hope to come back sometime soon for more delicious buns and looking forward to seeing future specials!

We went at ~7pm the first Friday night the Frederick location was open. There was a short line outside and waited about 20 minutes to order. I liked that they took my cell number to text me when the food was ready since every table was full and the space was also packed with people waiting for their orders. The shrimp appetizer was perfectly fried and seasoned with a wonderful blend of herbs, garlic, and onion. The generous portion could have been a full meal! The Neighborhood Bird bowl was a generous size (2 meals or could be shared). The chicken was perfectly fried on a bed of light fluffy jasmine rice and pickled vegetables. I ordered mine mild, which still had a nice spice level. Highly recommend but be prepared for the cost.

Have been waiting to try this place since they opened, and it was more than worth the wait!! As a gluten-free girl, having flavorful options available on the menu without having to ask for adaptions makes SUCH a difference in the dining experience! Ekiben keeps the menu small bc everything works together so effortlessly. The flavors from all different cuisines blend together so lovely. Super cute vibe doesn't hurt either, the music is top tier Will be back!!

    NEIGHBORHOOD BIRD

Damn! Damn! Damn! The NEIGHBORHOOD BIRD! Only third time I've had this and is so good! I got spicy and it was perfect heat! The device is awesome I got there 5 minutes before closing and they took my order!

I liked the addition of panko breadcrumbs for crunch, but I wish the imitation crab meat had been shredded more finely for better texture. For my entree, I ordered the Spicy Basil Crispy Duck (added $1 for Thai spicy). They definitely delivered on the spicy level, but the duck itself was not crispy. It came with rice and bell peppers and basil. The sushi tasted fresh, which was good. Service could use some improvement. We had to ask for small bowls for soy sauce, and when we requested a dessert menu to celebrate the birthday, we were told the kitchen had already closed. It would have been nice if our server had given us a heads up before the kitchen closed. The ambiance is cozy. It almost feels like dining in someone's house. They had Halloween decorations up and murals of historic Frederick painted on the walls. They also have a private parking lot, which made it convenient. Overall, food was good, but a little more attentiveness from the staff would've made the experience even better.

New favorite spot in Frederick alert??…read more We have always had a soft spot for Asian fusion, especially Thai fusion, and this place did not disappoint! From the decor to the food, I was so thoroughly impressed with the experience. For appetizer we got the Massamun potstickers, and I got the Garlic Crispy Chicken rice bowl. David got the Supreme Noodle. Massamun Potstickers: Crispy on the outside, plenty of massamun curry sauce to dip the potstickers in. Only wish that there was a little more filling on the inside of the potstickers. Save the sauce if you get a rice bowl so that it doesn't go to waste! Garlic Crispy Chicken Bowl: This came LOADED with deliciously saucy yet crispy chicken bites layered with a spicy mayo sauce and sides of cucumber and carrots. There was a TON of rice too, perhaps too much but not a complaint. For $17 this was a pretty good deal. I love a good mix of soup and rice so with my leftover rice I had some of David's soup that came with the Supreme Noodles! Supreme Noodles: Portion was a bit small for $22 and wish there was more protein, but still so good. The honey roasted pork was surprisingly tender and not dry at all (I was thinking it would be like a hard/dry pork but it was saucy and flavorful!). You can pour the side soup inside or have separately, very yummy! Wish we had room for dessert (they had a Thai tea cheesecake that I am dying to try). Also see lots of people getting the Chor Muang dumplings so will have to try those next time too (our server confirmed those were popular).

The miso soup is the best assemblage of flavor I have tasted, and I have had my share of miso soups over the years. Miso soups I have had over the years only had small pieces of tofu, a sprinkle of green scallions in blond miso with a sprinkle of dried seaweed. The Bloom miso soup had assorted mushrooms, like enoki and shiitake, and a good portion as well, silken tofu, scallions, and big flakes of wakame seaweed. The crunchy tempura soft shell crab bao bun is a must try as well. It comes with fries and salad. Good eats!

Thai Meric is fast becoming one of our go-to choices for dining out in Frederick…read more We've now visited about 3-4 times, and the consistency of our experience here is impressive. On our last visit, a few Sunday nights ago, we popped in at dinner time on impulse and were seated immediately, though it's not a big space and it gets a lot of traffic. We walked through the little bar to the interesting and well-appointed dining room. I ordered a Singha beer and my wife got her standard Thai iced tea, very well made here. We split an appetizer of delicious crispy firecracker shrimp. She got her favorite, Pad Thai with shrimp, and I got mine, creamy green curry with chicken (I chose a 3 out of 4 on spiciness, which was close to my limit!). Both were terrific, As always, the service was efficient and polite. We haven't tried this place for carryout yet, because I think we just like sitting there so much. If you like the unique flavors of Thai food served cheerfully in a pleasant atmosphere, I think you'll like Thai Meric.

Since we were in the company of a bunch of preteens, ice tea and mango bubble thingies were enjoyed by all. (For the future: they have a full bar, with everything from beers to fruity drinks to shots. I didn't see sake on the menu, but I'm not a fan so didn't look really hard). Apps were good, with serving sizes plentiful. We ordered fried calamari (served in stick form, not rings; weird but tasty), really nice tempura, and Ying Yang shrimp (the spicy may sauce was OK, but the wasabi sauce was killer!). For mains we focused on: sushi. Lots and lots of sushi. The rolled sushi menu is very long; the sushi (actually nigiri) and sashimi menu not so much. Nothing on the menu described how big the portions were so the 'dults each ordered a several different selections, both rolls and sushi. This kiddies ordered ramen, and Spousal Unit got Drunken Noodles with Chicken along with a sushi roll. Turns out the rolls were HUGE so we overordered dramatically (pro tip: ask in the future). Everything was fresh and tasty. My only quibble was that the Spider Roll appeared to be fried surimi (artificial crab) not soft shell crab. How could I tell? No legs, baby! We rolled out stuffed, with a doggie bag full of sushi for Daddy Dearest's second dinner. The price was very reasonable, and the quality far better than Lantern Sushi (but not as good as Sushi Nomo or Lazy Fish). Middle-Oldest Grand Daughter's birthday dinner was a success - and I'm already looking forward to next year's!
