I went with foodie friends and we all enjoyed everything we ordered. I grabbed #182, a crispy noodle dish with chicken, squid, shrimp, and more. It was so delicious and truly so much food. I also got to try the crepe with tofu which was excellent. Fish sauce, tea, and waters were brought out to get us started, and food came out incredibly fast. I love that this spot is diner vibes and very family friendly. You're really not going to go wrong with anything on the menu. I am not a huge pho fan but am obsessed with vermicelli dishes, so I look forward to coming back and trying more of those ASAP. Thanks for the great meal, Nam Phuong!

It was a perfect mid-week treat. Unfortunately, this is in South Philly and parking is its own pre-dinner activity; but I braved it and it was worthwhile. After taking a lap, some guy was leaving Anh Em and offered his parking spot--it was fated to be a great night. It was so cute on the inside and the windows provided great lighting--perfect for an early evening dinner. Although, I would like to mention that the bathroom was tight. The door opened straight into the toilet; my knees would've been touching the door if I was just 2 inches taller. Service was great! Anyways, what really matters is the food! Bò Tái Chanh: never had carpaccio before, but I have always been intrigued. Unfortunately, I get the ick very easily, especially when it comes to meats, so I could tell it was raw beef and had to fight the demons (nausea). But I think it was a great experience, I wouldn't mind getting it again. Also, I was dared (with little effort) to eat one of the Thai chilis. My tongue was burning and numb, and the servers proceeded to bring me about 2 glasses of ice cold water. Don't make the same mistake I did, unless you're stronger than me. Seared Octopus: so perfectly seared. It was crispy and charred beautifully. The garlic!! There were charred garlic slivers and it was truly amazing. Mussels Cò Ri: the showstopper! It has been over a month and I still think about this dish. Something about a coconut curry will always get me. The bread was a little crisp, borderline crunchy. The mussels were good. The delicious coconut curry sauce. We asked for a side of white rice and dumped that into the leftover sauce--and guys, it was perfect. If there is one thing you have to get at Anh Em, it's this. Bánh Xèo - Shrimp & Pork: super yummy. It was great wrapped in the veggies. Also, I added a slice of garlic from the Seared Octopus--garlic will always do it. Coco Rico: this was sweet and fun. The lychee shines through. Happy as a lark: I don't like dried plum. Pho the culture: exactly as it says. It's fun, but wasn't a fun-tasting drink, if you know what I mean. Definitely check Anh Em out! The food was great, drinks were good, and the vibes were awesome. I would circle the block for 30 minutes for parking to get dinner here again. Maybe over your meal at Anh Em you can discuss whether you'd rather be a worm, caterpillar, or centipede, as i forced my friends to do so. Or maybe take your chances on the Thai chilis in the Bò Tái Chanh, may you fare better than I did. (visited on 09/18/26)

Businesses should not limit promotions based on language or cultural backgrounds. People from different cultures are able to enjoy other cuisines. The Chinese-speaking menu has way better options and quality than the English one, which is very disappointing. I advise everyone to not dine here. This was my biggest concern with this restaurant. There was a menu on the back of the happy hour card that was written only in Chinese. I asked the waitress about it and questioned why there wasn't an English version available. Her first response was that it was "for the Chinese elders", which is not listed anywhere on the menu by the way. After returning to the table, she added that many people "don't eat pork or like spicy food." I explained that spicy food and pork are enjoyed across many cultures, including African cuisines, so that reasoning didn't make sense to me. Her final explanation was that they simply hadn't printed an English version yet. The interaction felt dismissive and inconsistent, which left a bad impression. Beyond that, the overall service was poor. The atmosphere did not feel welcoming, there were no check-ins during the meal, and food was dropped off without any follow-up or engagement from the staff. If you do not speak Chinese, you are able to use Chatgpt for translation. Philly is a diverse city and does not need any business that is unable to cater to all customers fairly. Lastly- the food is very underwhelming. The blueberry tao chicken and udon noodles were overcooked. The fried rice was salty. The string beans and wontons were good.

One thing to note is that if you want to order from the happy hour menu, you do have to sit at the bar. The happy hour bites were priced pretty fairly compared to other happy hour spots in the area. We tried several different dishes, including the banh mi, skewers, and bao buns. Everything was pretty good and tasted authentic--the flavors reminded me of street food I've had in Vietnam. The interior was also decorated really nicely, with some cool chandeliers and unique decor that gave the restaurant a nice atmosphere. A very solid option for AYCE KBBQ in UCity!…read more I was craving for KBBQ after having it for my dad's bday, and wifey and I needed a date night idea. So why not eating way too much protein while our faces soak up that delicious grease and smoke? It turns out there are no reasons why not. The meat selection is pretty good for a spot that I didn't get the impression specializes in KBBQ - it was, after all, a hot pot spot first. But they've got your classics: LA galbi, bulgogi beef, thinly sliced fatty brisket, pork belly, spicy gochujang pork shoulder, you know what it is. But they also have some deep cuts: pork cheek and beef tongue! I think those are only available for dinner, but still. Delicious. They also have a good selection of seafood. Their marinated scallops and squid were a hit. I believe they also have mussels, shrimp, all the good stuff. One thing I wish they had more of was a wider variety of side dishes (banchan). They had radish kimchi and marinated cucumbers when I went, but cabbage kimchi was all out that day, and I just feel like one more little side dish would have made it perfect... like maybe some potato salad or the like. Because it's a hot pot joint, the sauce game is on point though. Plenty of sesame oil and soybean paste to slather your grilled goodies in. Plus, some vinegars, fresh herbs, other chili oils, and the like that would normally be used for hot pot. Mix and match to your delight. Drinks were varied and very reasonably priced. All the usual suspects from soju to sake. I'll come back with friends when bulking season comes around, for sure!
