Popped in for a mid afternoon rest and cocktails. Walked in and was warmly greeted. We were given menus and found a perfect table for two in the corner. First order for me was The Good Living & Game..... absolutely delicious. perfectly balanced and refreshing. The sober hubs ordered The Mockingbird....holy ginger goodness. Second order was an Espresso Martini (so delicious and coffee forward just like it should be) and the hubs Mocktail order wa Nurse Pepper made with tart cherry juice......drool worthy good. Portuguese rule! Eu te amo!!

Listen I was not feeling this little spot. I needed some air and a server. I drink too much to be going to the bar for every drink. Wanted to try too many things and had too many questions. I was not interested in doing all that walking back and forth to the bar! It was not that big but it was hot. BUT, when the opportunity surfaced to moved to the bar --- we didn't want to leave. Be aware of the Buffalo dip, great flavor AND great HEAT!!! Seemed to be an all male staff that prepared the food, answered questions, let us taste test and made great cocktails. Not much Melanin in the place but everyone was verry welcoming and nice. That didn't stop us from enjoying all that Grace and Proper had to offer.

My review is based on the drinks we had. We stopped by here before our dinner reservation. It's quite small so it was pretty packed when we walked in. But the bartenders were very efficient and nice when we were ordering. There are outdoor sitting that we took advantage of. The drinks are very yummy so which was a plus! The only downside is there's only one bathroom but hey, it's a small restaurant so it's understandable!

Very interesting place! Ordered a couple of rounds of cocktails, which was refreshing and great. You seat yourself and you order at the bar. The water is self-service. The bartenders were attentive and fast at making drinks and they cleared the table. The vibes were vibing. It's kind of out of the way, but worth the trip. I was annoyed at the automatic 20% tip added especially when there's a lot of self-service. I didn't see on the menu but I don't like the practice in general.

I live SO close to Grace & Proper but it took me over a year to finally visit! My husband and I always fawn over their logo and marketing, really loving all their social media and overall vibe, so we were happy to make plans to visit. We stopped in for HH with a few friends over the winter. The space is quaint, but we snagged a table for our party of 4. It was definitely tight but manageable. I would love to visit in the warmer months when we can take advantage of their lovely outdoor dining! The bar is super cute with lots of European-esque and cozy decor. It was decorated for the holidays during our visit too, which was lovely. We were there for happy hour, which is limited to only a few days a week so be prepared! Their HH menu is small but features some popular cocktails and a fair assortment of snacks. I opted for the Porto Tonico, which was so beautifully presented and had a delicious blend of flavors. It was a great cocktail and at a steal of a price! My dining parters similarly enjoyed their drinks, and we all appreciated that the servers came around for a last call before HH officially ended (that rarely happens any more, in my experience). I peeked through the rest of their drink menu, and it is quite expansive in terms of cocktails, spirits, wines, and beers; they definitely lean into their corner European bar persona! We shared some small plates with cheese and meats, which were perfect for finger foods while enjoying our drinks. The deli was all top notch and high quality! This was a lovely happy hour with friends, and I am glad we finally made it in! I would love to visit again for "M for Monday," Bom Dia on the weekends, or just another day to try more of their extensive drinks and other snacks!

Absolutely delicious drinks and a stand out wine and spirits menu. The vibe is very casual and feels like you're neighborhood watering hole, but it's much more sophisticated feeling and looking inside and it makes me feel great to be hanging out here. While the cocktails and bartenders are great, don't overlook the food menu! Snacks and bigger bites have amazing flavor with high quality ingredients on "easy" foods (bar nuts, bread/butter, sandwiches, soups!!!). Don't sleep on here for a light bite or do what my mom and I did and order a lot lol.

Came in late on a Monday night before closing for a quick drink to take advantage of their late-night Monday drink & bites specials! The bartender was a little awkward in my opinion, but wasn't necessarily unfriendly. I just got a vibe that was a little off, but overall as a business, our party was very grateful they didn't make a big fuss about us coming 30 minutes before closing. We were respectful in the fact that we didn't wanna order anything that took too long nor required the kitchen to do a lot of work. I ordered the Boiler Maker (mezcal sipping drink) and my partner and friend ordered the Madeira. All smallish drinks to be consumed, but this was a nice little vibe and pit stop. We also ordered the Mortadella and another bread & meats type of place. Overall - our little quick stop here to end our Monday night was great.

I stumbled upon this place on google maps while searching for Portuguese egg tarts, and I knew I had to come! The egg tart and custard filled donut (reminded me of nai huang bao) were phenomenal, but their food was also amazing. We got two sandwiches on their fresh crusty Portuguese bread, and my favorite was the B.E.C (sweet n spicy crispy bacon, fluffy scrambled eggs, melted swiss gruyere). The meatballs with burrata and the caesar salad were also very good. The only thing was I wish it came with more bread!! The neighborhood/street corner location, bustling vibes, service, tableware, menu design, etc, were all spectacular!

When I walked by this place, I noticed it was Portuguese and I went to Portugal on my own a few years ago. It brought back some pleasant memories. Then I saw pictures and then I went in afterward. The alcohol is top notch, the food is not a lot but not too little and superb quality. Options for imported items and food combinations that blend well together for savory. Probably sweet treats if they offer any offer a similar experience but my stomach is only so big. Staff is friendly and they are on top of their game to let us know beforehand that tip is auto added 20% and have signage on their bar table too. Food is available until midnight which I love because it is quality food and not some completely unhealthy snacks only or nothing. I feel comfortable making the trip to visit this classy bar, especially if I can hang with a small group of friends or one friend because of all these set up natural "accommodations " in place. The orange wine was more like a white wine with a tinge of orange- not my personal fave but nothing wrong with it. I tend to prefer more sweeter tasting drinks. As you may know, fresh oranges are known in Portugal as well as the pastels de natas which they also offer here. I would be surprised if fresh orange juice is not an option here but I suspect it is. Grace and Proper, you help make Philly and Portugal proud!

Great spot to hang out with friends. Casual vibe with rustic interior. There are more outdoor seatings to enjoy beautiful weather. We were sitting by the bar, the bartenders were really attentive. Besides them, there was a guy who prepped some food from the food station right in front of us, who could elaborately explain the menu and answered our questions. We felt right at home. The food menu is simple and does not many varieties. However, the drinks are very elaborate as evidenced by a whole array of liquors displayed at the bar They had some special menu displayed on a small board. Porto Tonico : really good summer drink. Very refreshing and not too strong. Pickled carrots with chili: spicy with balanced acidity and saltiness. I wish the portion was much bigger. Special menu item: asparagus with green goddess. So delicious, perfectly cooked asparagus served on a creamy goddess aioli. I uses bread to soak up that awesome aioli. Meatballs: definitely the highlight of my dinner. The meatballs were a bit dense but the star was the sauce. It was thicker than normal tomato sauce but it was garlicky and full of flavor and had some spicy kick. It was served with toasted crusty bread to soak up that sauce. Highly recommended. My husband had bufana. It had slices of roast pork which in my opinion was a bit tough. Pasteis de Nara was served warm and dusted with powdered sugar. Nice custard. Good way to end the night. Gratuity is already included in the bill. One of the bartenders told us about it while giving us the check. In my opinion, the food is a bit pricey . $9 for 5 spears of asparagus.

Went to Grace and Proper on a weeknight, and it was fairly crowded. They didn't take reservation so it's up to lunch if you can get seating. We were lucky and got a table right away. It was dark and a bit difficult to get to the bar to place your orders for food or drinks. The bartenders were knowledgeable about the drinks and food being served. The drinks were delicious and reasonably priced. I had the Porto Tonico and my partner had a cocktail with a sour cherry liquor. We also had a flight of agave spirits, which was unique. It came with a mezcal, a raicilla that was so smooth, and a tequila in shallow, cute, ceramic cups with accompanying orange slices with worm salt. The food was okay. The bifana sandwich was not for us, it was sour and moist. We had meatballs which were better. The pastel de nata was tasty, but I preferred the bola de Berlim which was fluffy and soft but not overly sweet. I would definitely order their pastries again.

This is a chic but casual wine n bites bar. The wine and spirits lists are expansive and the cocktails are herby, fresh, and smart. I had the Porto Tonico and was sold! The chic vibe is accompanied by casual, order at the bar service. It is often PACKED but if you can snag a small outdoor table it's a dreamy place to pop some olives and upscale cheeses. Do not recommend for with kiddos/stroller/dog. I will say, the bifana sando was not what I expected? Soggy bread, tough meat, and pale flavor. The meat and chips (thin sliced salami with truffle potato chips) was showstopping and the meatballs were perfect. Happy to have this in the neighborhood and will def be back for cocktails and wine!!

The inside is very spacious and gives a very relaxed atmosphere. For the prix fixe meal, we chose: Ajvar and Pita, Mozzarella Sticks, Hanger Steak, Jelly Crepes, and the chocolate cake. Everything was amazing from start to finish. I can't believe this is probably the best steak I've had in a very long time. At first glance, I was hoping to get some steak sauce, but as it turns out, it wasn't necessary at all. They have tenderized this steak and seasoned it incredibly. It was a very soft, juicy, and delicious piece of meat that needed no sauce. I was also a huge fan of the jelly crepes for dessert. They were very fluffy and had the right amount of blueberry filling. I was conflicted between getting the jelly or the nutella filling, but I knew I would be satisfied either way given how the meal went so far. I also really appreciate the good variety of dishes they have on both their restaurant week and regular menu. Needless to say Balkan Fusion was a very pleasant surprise that blow every expectation out of the water. I would wholeheartedly recommend it.

The husband started with a cup of Borsch soup, very flavorful with a nice mix of beets and carrots. Then we shared the Hummus Platter appetizer. Nicely done with Kalamata olives, celery, cucumber, carrots and pita bread. The main event included Musaka and Turli Tave. The musaka was layered up with potatoes, ground beef & pork, topped with egg and cheese with a side salad of cabbage in a vinegar dressing. The flavors were very good and there was enough to feed two. The turli tava was really tasty. It was in a stew form and plentiful. It came with pita bread which allowed him to wipe the crock clean, as a good Italian is taught. The final scene included Honey Cake and Tulumba. The cake was finely layered and extremely decadent. The tulumba were also very good, small fried dough similar to churros, but soaked in simple syrup. Alex (chef owner) and his wife Monica (server), along with their little guy Noah were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Definitely a return trip in the future for us. If you are in the neighborhood and hungry, give them a try. Don't worry, they have stuff on the menu for the non-adventurous. It's a BYOB too, that's a plus. Check them out, 17th and New York Avenues, N Wildwood.

You may have to fold your mirrors in to hit cars, I'm not exaggerating. I had envisioned a larger restaurant but this was small with maybe 7 tables. We sat at one with padded wooden benches that was comfortable. We were the only customers when arrived for lunch. The menu is limited and the waitress was as authentic as the food. There were some lunch specials posted but we opted to try three things: mushroom cheese bread, potato pancakes and the blueberry pierogies. The pierogies were definitely handmade and on the larger side as soon as you cut it open, the blueberries rushed out. There was a sweet sugary sauce on the top. That was unexpected. They were served cold and not warm. They were sweet. There were two of us and we each were only able to eat one of the six that came in the order. The mushroom cheese bread was drizzled with ketchup, which was unexpected that cheese was melting and gooey. Our favorite item was definitely the potato pancakes. They were cooked to perfection and the sour cream was the perfect condiment. They do have limited drinks here, including bottled water, cans of Pepsi and diet Pepsi, and some unique bottled drinks like birch water. The biggest drawback for the spot was that I just didn't think it was as clean as I would've liked it to be. It is authentic and as you eat, there is a man in the back that you can see making pierogies by hand. I'm glad that we tried this, but I'm not sure that I would return.

Once inside, the feeling was a lot better. Not much in the way of art work on the walls, but still had a nice warm feeling. There were 3 of us and we did a lot of sharing. The Scallops in Shredded Filo was good but the Crab & Artichoke, with garlic aioli, parsley and capers was definitely "the winner". The Seafood Ceviche with scallops, halibut and shrimp was also delicious. While 2 of us were still enjoying our appetizers, our entrees were brought to the table and our plates moved to make room for them. I made the comment to no one in particular that I would try to eat faster as the seafood ceviche was pushed off to the side of the table. We had a 7 pm reservation and for the most part the restaurant was full by that time but we were not intentionally eating slowly. I could see if we might be taking up too much time eating and they had to move the tables but that was not the case as the restaurant was only half full by the time we left. For an establishment that is charging the prices that it is, Avg $18 for appetizers, high $30s for entrees, no one wants to feel rushed. The Halibut Almondine with Beurre Blank was good but not as good as we had hoped, with it being on the dry-side. The Dorado with Baby Vegetables was delicious as well as beautifully presented with "potato fish scales". A shared warm Pecan Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream completed our meal. Their menu is extensive making it an easy decision to return but I will mention that we would like a more leisurely experience this time around.

When we first…read moreconsidered dining here, noting that it had received very positive reviews from a variety of sources, we were surprised to find that no one of our acquaintance had even heard of the place, let alone darkened the door. And yet... when our party of three arrived for a recent Wednesday evening reservation, we found the 50-seat dining room full and joyously overflowing. ... And, given the fact that the menu is awash with a host of French and Asian fusion innuendos, you would probably never suspect that the restaurant is owned by two Ukrainian families. But, since the well-traveled co-proprietor Volodymyr "Vlad" Hyvel served as sous-chef in London's Nobu and also put in time at Le Cirque, Alain Ducasse and Jean-Georges, his diverse culinary inclinations make impeccably perfect sense. Matters piscatorial - both preludes and main courses - play a major role in Mr. Hyvel's repertoire. His starters, for instance, range from cold items such as Yellowtail Sashimi, Tuna Tartare, and Lobster Ceviche to a comforting tomato-y Fish Soup awash with shrimp & scallops. Among his starters, however, the chef's magnum opus proved to be his extraordinary Scallops in Shredded Filo (pictured). The rich & meaty deep-fried bivalves arrived at table accompanied by a zippy wasabi cream sauce... and were simply irresistible. Entrées are pretty evenly divided between "Meat" and "Fish and Seafood." In addition to Filet Mignon, Short Ribs, and Grilled New Zealand Lamb Chops with a spicy Peruvian sauce, the former category also included Chicken Teriyaki and Duck Canton splashed with a seductive caramel-coffee-orange sauce. Once again, however, for our party at least, seafood took center stage. My dining partners decided upon the Halibut and Branzino, respectively. The former was companioned by mushrooms and finished with a green pepper dressing; the latter was presented with creamy mushrooms, crisp potato balls, and a side of fennel dressing. My Wild Caught Striped Bass (pictured) was a particular treat, as the filet was wrapped in a crispy potato crust, served on a bed of creamy leeks, and splashed with a delicate red wine sauce. If The Choice has a weakness, it is their desserts. As noted above, appetizers & entrées are both delightfully innovative and cosmopolitan in scope. When it comes to sweet endings, however, options are exceedingly limited and creativity is conspicuous by its absence - Chocolate Meltdown with Vanilla Ice Cream... Pecan Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream... Warm Apple Tart with Vanilla Ice Cream... Ice Cream. You get the picture. Given the quality of all that has gone before, you expect more... and it simply isn't forthcoming. Just be prepared... Dinner at The Choice is not a cheap date. Those aforementioned highly-touted Scallops in Shredded Filo, for instance, will set you back $18.00. Lobster Ceviche goes for $28.00; with appetizers topping out at $32.00 for the Pan-Seared Foie Gras. Entrée-wise, that Butter-Poached Lobster will put a sizeable $60.00 dent in your wallet, while all finny fare goes for either $35.00 or $40.00. Meats are $35.00 per, with Chicken Teriyaki occupying the menu's bottom rung at $28.00. Even those rather nondescript downhome desserts will set you back $12.00 per. Given the current state of economic affairs, I am not suggesting that these prices are outrageous by any means. However, given the restaurant's location - the western 'burbs - and the laidback atmosphere and service, they are a bit on the heady side. Not exactly a likely candidate for a last-minute inexpensive casual evening out... Fortunately, the fact that you may BYOB helps to soften the blow somewhat.

The vibes are intimate, candlelit, moody, tiny with Philly rowhome, chalkboard menu, just a few servers, perfect for a day night or a nice dinner with a friend or 3 (probably too small for any bigger party). They're only open Friday and Saturday and are available for buyouts for private parties and will be having a small little market as well. Service was excellent and attentive without being overbearing. Don't miss the cute bathroom with a bunch of tiny drawers to open with a different surprise in each! Danke for a great dinner! We'll be baack!

This is a hidden treasure tucked in on a side street across from Rittenhouse Square!…read more We had dinner at 6:30 on a weekday night, and it was the perfect elegant townhouse where one could meet someone for a drink and stay for a glorious dinner afterwards. The ambience is glorious! You feel like you've walked into some elegant Parisian bar. My ginger, pineapple mocktail was stupendous! The menu is broken into cold and hot starters, and then mains and then desserts. It's the kind of place that just has enough variety without being overwhelming, which I think gives the kitchen the ability to focus on delivering spectacular results. Started with the golden beet salad, which looked like it could've been a main on its own! It was huge, fresh and amazing, and it was followed by scallops on a spring pea risotto with a turnip Crema topped by crispy kale. I've never had such crispy, shattering kale that added the right amount of texture and a hint of acid to a dish. We didn't have space for dessert, but this kind of place makes me want to come back again and try everything else. Should be mentioned that the service, from the person who welcomed us to our server, radiated warmth and kindness, something not all RS establishments can say for themselves. Highly recommend!

We always order the calamari and the truffle fries -- both are incredibly delicious and consistently perfect. The filet mignon is also amazing: cooked beautifully, with mushrooms that are simply exceptional. My favorite side is the mashed potatoes, they're creamy, flavorful, and pair perfectly with the steak. The presentation of the dishes is gorgeous, served in very elegant and beautiful tableware, which makes the whole experience feel even more special. The service is just as impressive. The chef is very friendly and often comes out to check on guests, ask how everything is, and recommend dishes, which adds such a personal touch. The waitstaff are also very kind, attentive, and welcoming. As a lovely bonus, they serve complimentary warm mini rolls with a unique butter that tastes like a creamy, seasoned spread, almost like a flavored cream cheese or infused butter. It makes the rolls absolutely irresistible. Unfortunately I don't have pictures of the food but I have a video where we are celebrating our friend's birthday. Look how friendly is staff and chef! And all people who were in the restaurant. Highly recommend this place for both the food and the overall experience.
