Chips and salsa aren't free! That is my favorite part about Mexican food restaurants is the chips and salsa. However their homemade salsa was pretty good with a kick of spice. I got the California burrito and really enjoyed it however I dined with 3 other people and they did not love their food as their burrito was luke warm and not hot and one member of my party asked for salsa on the side and Eren's did not served her burrito like that. Staff was friendly but when I asked for three salsas I was told I was only getting two. Wish I hadn't left that $2 tip before receiving my order. Al pastor was dry and bland. I've been going to Efren's for many years. Occasionally their is a mix up with occasionally finding a bit of meat in a rice and bean burrito. But mistakes happen, and it only ever so often put me off my appetite. To those on the line, please be careful, I found what appears to be two chunks of broken shell in my rice and beans. We've eaten at efrens before and it was so-so. We thought we would try it again so we did. This time we ordered and it was ridiculously (spicy) hot we took one bite and couldn't even eat the rest. When we ate there before it was not as hot as this was. I called and asked if they could fix it and the lady told me no. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Nestled on a side street in old Oceano Efrens is the KIND!!! Okay hands down the BEST tacos in 5 cities or SLO. This place is outstanding. Pozole is killer and the meat on the tacos is so good. We tried carne asada, carnitas, lengua, & adobada and all were otstanding. Chips and salsa fresh and delicious.Reminds me of all our trips to Mexico. The best fresh guacamole here. When they get really busy they are shorter in convo with customers but always nice. This place is clean, inexpensive and just plain GOOD!! Best place after a day at the beach if you get there early enough.. A mexican beer and some authentic mexican food. Yum. We are lucky to have this place. Can't wait to go back! Tacos Dorados Taco Bell. But it kinda does. The $8 meal - 5 tacos served in crispy fried shells, layering your choice of meat topped with sour cream, lettuce and shredded cheese, and served with salsa picante on the side - may seem like a deal box from everyone's favorite purveyor of Dorito-shelled tac-fauxs, but the quality is obvious and anything but chain. I opted for said box, but not without spreading the filling beyond the the standards: two al pastor, two carnitas and one lengua. The pork is more than a bit greasy, with flavorful chunks of fat rendered and glazing every piece of pig, but the lengua is arguably among the best I've eaten. Tender, abundant and with that nice mineral aftermath, it marries perfectly with the housemade salsas and had me wishing I rethunk the original ratios. Half of her traditional taco (doubled corn tortas with carnitas, diced onion, cilantro and a seriously spiced salsa verde) and I was almost convinced to stick around for a second round. Those bad boys? A mere $1.60. An easy swing off Rte 1, so do yourself a favor and pit stop at this Oceano must. read more

What a find! We had the tacos and chili verde enchiladas. The carnitas and pastor tacos were excellent! The pork was tender and I had whole beans and rice which were wonderful as well. The food is good but the service not as much. We went the other day and we were behind one other costumer that was before us. Not too long after we ordered another couple came in and they had ordered and they were seated and they got their food right away. We had already been waiting about 15 minutes and people were just walking on and out with their food. Then I look over and saw a cook just on his phone for about almost 10 minutes. While we were just waiting and getting very upset. I would not recommend this location hopefully the other ones have better service. I was just in to get something to eat for dinner from the take out side, and there was this guy who was obviously friends with the workers eating right at the counter over all the food that is served to people. The way he was talking and laughing, who knows what food particles were coming out of his mouth and onto the food behind the counter. He was even reaching into that metal container to his right with his bare hand to sprinkle what ever was in it over his food. The dine in side had plenty of empty tables, so there was no need for him to be eating on the take out side. Evan if the dine in side was full, there is still no way he should be eating on the take out side. With their complete lack of precaution for cleanness around the food, what else are they doing around the food? If the Corona Virus hits the Oceano area, Efren's might be a good place to check for contamination. read more

Was craving Mexican food and was close to Efren's Deli. It's right off Hwy 1 in Oceano. Not many street lights so It might be hard to find for some people. They do have parking on the street and I was able to find one right outside the door. I had a to-go order. You order at the counter. The guy was very friendly and helpful with the menu. One of the waitresses walked by and asked how my night was going. Staff is super friendly. I sat at a table while I waited. The place was clean and neat and well decorated. My order came out quick (15 mins). Went home and dived in! It was good. Probably not the best enchiladas I've had but still good. The rice and beans on the side were nothing to rave about but they weren't bad either. My chicken enchilada was a tad dry but had very good flavor. I will be back. We went for the first time this evening, largely due to the good reviews on Yelp. We got take-out, so we didn't really eat at the restaurant, but just picked up the food from the side entrance. Ordered veggie nachos, a veggie quesadilla, and a small horchata. Somehow that all cost $11.81, so I asked the cashier if he didn't miss something, since the menu options above (which include meat) showed higher prices than that. He confirmed that he charged me for everything, and I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least. The staff was nice (in my limited interaction) and their food is great -- although the wife, whose spice level is "mild" at best, found the nachos quite spicy. But no sweat -- I can't knock them for something that I had no idea would be an issue! Overall great experience, and we'll be sure to grab food there again! read more

I got lengua, buche, and pastor tacos and they were all delicious and well prepared. The tortillas are awesome. And I got a breakfast burrito to split with my boyfriend, and it's also delicious. We are locals. We have tried literally every taco in Oceano, Grover Beach, Guadalupe, and Arroyo Grande. Efren's comes out on top for three reasons: consistency in their quality of meat and vegetables and spices, the best flavor for tacos head and shoulders above some really excellent other shops (La Tapatia, Frutiland Casa del Sabor), and finally the price. After many different experiences with this spot, I can definitely conclude that it's undoubtedly worth your attention, The quesadilla is full of flavor and is super tasty, I've had it with asada and carnitas and both go well with it. Also the tortas are super good too! Only mild complaint is one time I got the coctel de Camaron and I prefer it with a less sweet flavor, but aside from that everything has been on point. read more

The food: The the food here is Mexican authentic with seafood as well. I got a Tripa taco, carnitas sole, and fish ceviche tostada along with a Michel Adams. The taco was very good, but they serve it from a hot plate, so they might have it a little cooked and put it on the stove as soon as you order to finish it up. The carnitas sope was amazing, really big and hand made corn tortilla, it sounds expensive but it's worth it because it's huge. The fish ceviche was really good too, but I thought it lacked color, like cilantro, chile, cucumber etc. The michelada was also on point but it was $10. The restaurant: Oddly shaped, they have a Togo walk in area and sit down restaurant area, they also have a tiny patio with one table in the back. Being here my first time, I was sure what we were doing. We walked into the Togo area, ordered, walked around into the patio area, then walked through the sit down area to get out food... I think the waiters were a little confused why we were walking around a bit. The service: the people are really nice and friendly, they speak Spanish and attentive. read more
